Real good but especially Owen Cook to be honest. The marketing side of self help is the toxic part, if you just see thru that you can actually help yourself. Books are the best and teachers with integrity. And life is pretty simple, but that’s hard for most people to understand. My favorite book is power vs force about frequencies you can function at 😁! Self help made me the man I am today, but I can see thru the marketing stuff ☀️
My first book I read was about The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy at age 14 and I miss the initial feeling I got when I read it because it made me excited to believe I could change my life to however I want it to be as long as I use positive affirmations 😆😆
For me, self-help books can be a “reminder” of something I already know or practice. And for that reason, I find myself reaching for those self help books when I need that reminder. But I also know, it’s not the one stop shop cure as we are constantly evolving and changing.
Most helpful one is the Bible, and then all of Alfred Adler's psychological books and Karen Horney's. Through understanding the original misperceptions of our past, we can better find the proper way to become a better self.
Guilty as charged here. I fell into the self help trap and was stuck in it for many years. Just got fed up one day as I was spending the majority of my days reading and absorbed in my head all day long. It's an addiction indeed, where once I "fixed" something, I had this strong need to find my next "fix". It was never ending and at the end of it all, my happiness thermostat didn't increase. Today, I'm trying to "unlearn" by meditating and emptying my mind, quit social media, exercise, spend less, make food at home and just be in the present. So far, by doing this, there is this feeling of self acceptance as I am I have never felt before, it's really quite remarkable. Not totally there yet but it okay, there's no destination anyways, it's just a journey. Thanks for a great video, loving the channel.
This was so well said and so real. I think sometimes ,” Self Help” makes us feel like we are so behind or that we must be doing the wrong thing. It’s hard enough to be unique and to be ourselves in this world today. I am very aware of what I read and watch and I try to only give my energy to positive and real things and people. Thank You for this. Blessings to everyone here. Your enough 🙌🏻🧡🍑Lisa
Self help makes you lose confidence and feel inadequate a lot of the time. I will say though, that the 4 hour work week was transformational for me when i was just starting in 2011. But the issue for me was deeper, psychological issues where I didn't accept myself or considered myself not good enough. More than self help, self acceptance is more impactful, I think.
Less self help! More philosophy! If you wanna be motivated, better is read literature. Read Papillon, and you will feel motivated to life for to enjoy the life (you, not a future imaginary better version of you) and the adventure it is, no for to achieve any goal, only enjoy the game.
Love this video! I often check out a ton of self help books from the local library, often hoping that one will have that magical tick that will transform my life overnight and make habits stick. And it never works that way and the books get returned! So real and honest, thank you for being honest and real about this topic!
The main issue we could notice is the simple fact people don't want to leave their comfort zone. It's a natural tendency, due culture and education, to just follow a pre-stablished path. How to do that if each person is an entire different universe? Then we see people trying to apply things that aren't suitable for them. Falling in the issue stated by yourself, in the video. But people also don't want to think, to take risks and so on. In the end, if you want to be happy, you need to understand the world and yourself. If you want to follow this path, you will need to think and ponder about life. You will need to deal with your fears, anxiety and just get mature.
Beautiful speech, these books and advice are good inspiration and motivation, but evryone themselves must direct their lives in their Unique way, rely on themselves, but let themselves, být let themselves be quided by God
Interesting! I never looked at self help info as a prescription to how to live, rather, as ideas to try to see what works for me. I guess I never really had an unhealthy relationship with it for that reason. I do feel that continuing to improve myself is important, but I don't usually feel bad about myself for not being perfect. I guess I see it as a journey of improvement rather than some end goal to reach.
Self help books & audios can actually be helpful IF they are addressing a specific issue you have. An example is the condition of "toxic shame" . Toxic shame is the belief that one is inherently bad, defective, different, or unlovable. Toxic shame is not just a belief that one does bad things, it is a deeply held core belief that one is bad. Many (if not most) psychological & emotional conditions are actually symptoms of toxic shame. In my case, I had a lifetime of social anxiety, and I also stuttered a lot. It wasn't until I healed my toxic shame that my SA and stuttering melted away. The SA and stuttering turned out to be just symptoms of toxic shame. Social Anxiety (SA) is not the only condition that is the result of toxic shame (TS). There are other conditions that are also caused by TS. I highly encourage for everyone who thinks they may have toxic shame to get the book "Healing the Shame That Binds You (Updated Edition, Oct. 2005), written the John Bradshaw. You may be able to find it in your local library. This book healed my TS (and my SA & stuttering - both symptoms for me) and made all the difference. John Bradshaw also has videos here on UA-cam about toxic shame.

I think there is nothing wrong in reading self help book as it serves as a life guide. But we need to be more careful in choosing self help books that fits our personality , goals or life values. One of the best self help book I got is How to Do the Work by Dr Nicole LePera a Psychologist. It helps you understand where your traumas are coming from, helping you parent your inner child & be more accepting in life :)
The Bible is the best Book ever, it changes your life without you realizing it.....we are all fallen beings unable to help ourselves, we need help from above to figure out this life.
Recently discovered Alain de Botton, even though he’s been writing for decades. While he’s more a philosopher/essayist rather than a self-help guru, his sensitivity and insight into the human condition has been very illuminating and comforting for me.
Instead of self-help, more emphasis should be put on self-awareness...learning about ourselves. What we truly want or makes us happy? Self-help is a fad to me. There is no magic solution that works for everyone. Great video. Mahalo!
Very well said Bee. I feel like cultivating self awareness is something we should be taught at a young age so we can have a foot up when it comes to building lives that really suit our own values.
I completely agree with you. All those books on how to be successful. How does one define 'success'. Usually they mean making more money and getting to the top if the career ladder. I define success differently so I cannot relate to those books.
I fee like Self-help books sometimes give false hope and advise..everyone is an individual with different hopes and dreams.. you really have to look inside your heart and see/feel what truly makes you happy & well balanced; then guide yourself to that direction. 💕 ♾ 💕
@Natasha Vodianova Love this! Thank you! Sometimes we need to cocoon in a safe space to allow for the transformation to take place. But, yeah, the trouble is to not get stuck in that phase of comfort and protection and know we have the choice to seek, find, make mistakes, and feel all of it.
I also read that book, Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. That book greatly emphasizes on finding a teacher or an expert in the field you want to thrive who would help u and guide u achieving your goal (financial goal). That’s when i realized it doesn’t have to be always being independent or relying solely on yourself or self-help, but also reaching out to learn from others, from someone who had already achieved what u wanted to achieve
Self-help, or personal development is SO important for the different areas in life we want to improve. But sometimes the danger can be that we end up consuming these books/ podcasts instead of actually doing the work. Crafting out the time to actually implement any of the self-help strategies is even more important than consuming more of that content.
I think you can really link this topic to the wabi sabi philosophy. In the end you need to accept that you will not « perfectly » use your day and « maximize » everything out of life. You are imperfect and that is what makes each day worth living.
I haven't read any self-help books but I'm am enjoying the journey of just learning myself and finding the joys. There is only one person like you; we are all unique in our own way, so it only makes sense that our self help will be unique as well. 💕😊 great video as always
Self help material may be a could start, but it is typically not deep and enduring enough for the long-term. This might be a better approach: "Be yourself--not your idea of what you think somebody else's idea of yourself should be." --Henry David Thoreau
I never thought about it that way and it does made me realized that it is true I keep reading self help to self improve, but whenever I fail to keep up to the advises and routine suggested from the books, I feel not good enough :// yea you're right not all formulas will fit everyone 🍀
@@MalamaLife 💗💗 thank you for the video, I love the way you talk and express your thoughts. For someone who struggles a little to speak up, Im really inspire by you and I hope one day to use my voice too. Have an amazing week ahead! 😆😆
Yes! You’re pointing out exactly what should be the essence. I think people are scared to face their own needs and would rather escape into ‘how to’ instead of just choosing for what feels right to them. Sometimes life just doesn’t give us time and space to sit with our own feelings and desires.. but then again, you only have this one life to live..
I remember getting into the whole self-help, it was much later in life and I got hooked. To a degree, I needed it, it was tough time in my life and the motivation to push through was quite helpful. Eventually I got through the rough patch and life was much better, but I was still into self-help books, and certainly found the information to be repetitive. You made a great point that the self-help industry is a multibillion dollar industry. Based on that information, I think their so many people struggling, in their own tough circumstances and they are trying to find a way out. At the same time, it could also be greed and the desire to become super wealthy. Either way, I think too much self help might not be a good thing. They do say that too much of anything can be a bad thing, even self-help. :) Like-149
Totally agree. I'm very much into self help but just stick to a few books and just make sure I mix it up a little. I enjoy self help. They do get repetitive but also realized that they are repeated for a reason because whatever it is that's said, works for many. But it definitely gets to a point where you just need to live your live and experience things for yourself and learn.
Too much of anything is certainly not a good thing :) I'm learning what this means, slowly but surely. Thanks for sharing your story Alex! I'm glad that it motivated you to get out of the rough patch in your life though. Thanks for watching and I hope you're doing well
People need to THINK and REFLECT more when reading any books, instead of blindly follow everything and be confused. Personally, I think works of psychologists' are better than "successful" figure's self-help book. (such as Alfred Adler, Karen Horny ect.)
Yes I have dropped the self help books completely, now I'm watching many spiritual videos on youtube, its a great help. Watch a short or longer video, then meditate, walk on nature and reflect 😊🙏🌻
To whoever stumbles across this comment, you are whole and you are complete (: You are not a project in the works, you are not an unfinished puzzle, a broken human or an imperfect machine. Self help tells us we need to constantly reach outward to find fulfillment, but our soul tells us that we must sit with ourselves in stillness to see that we already contain perfection within us. We already have all the seeds of our own desires. Productivity is not an antidote to low self worth, love, connection, and acceptance are.. as cliche as that sounds.
I can’t stand “self-help” books they gave more anxiety 😥 I tried with them but they just did not work for me like my therapy and medicine does. I respect if someone feels better by reading them but I appreciate you upload this kind of content.
Hi, one of the books that I honestly like is How to Do the Work by Dr Nicole LePera a Psychologist. I got mine fr Amazon :) It focuses on working on our past childhood trauma, reparenting ourself & working on our self ego.
The biggest thing that I feel all of these self-help books/systems seem to ignore and overlook is mental health. I have yet to find anything that truly addresses that, and yet, it's a crucial element in being able to help yourself.
I am new and binged a few of your videos. I am so glad I am not alone who experienced struggles. I loved that you are talking on this. As a trauma abuse survivor i always had to ask okay cool how does this apply to my life. All the time.
Self-help is not bad, but we need to remember that part of being a human being is having social needs. Having safe friends/family members also helps the growth/healing process. 🤙
As im on a journey to live more sustainably, one day I realized that as much as it'd be good to make progress, there's really no rush in getting to the end. Often times, these books have a achievement-oriented tone to it. As you implied, shifting the focus to 'being' and developing self-awareness (eg body, emotional awareness) brings a lot more fulfillment. As with most things, it's how one uses it intentionally, with reflection on how it applies to their own lives. For example, as someone with a sensitive biology, I chose to find alternatives to caffeine for better energy. The way I saw the world was transformed with that change.
I loved this video! It was really engaging and thought provoking. 💛 After viewing this, I realize that the self help books that have marked me the most are those that invite reflection and questioning of one’s self, as well as acceptance. Or simply memoirs, people sharing their thoughts and experiences, just as you are. This type of content proposes more sustainable solutions and less of a quick fix. I feel like the intention of these creators is more pure. As a person who cares a lot about others and their well-being, I do find that the industry is of value, but there is definitely some excess happening.
Thanks for your comment! I also enjoy those books that encourage us to look within ourselves and reflect. This is much more than an instant fix to the problem and lasts much longer as well. Thanks :)
I'm so glad that people like you, Nathaniel Drew, and other important UA-cam's, are talking about this self-improvement problem. You guys are creating awareness about this big issue.
People reading self-help books and not applying any of it is basically just acquiring information not necessarily the application of it. That's one reason why self-help doesn't work. The other is because most of the time we just want the results instead of looking at the content with a grain of salt. And like you say, how does this content apply to US? As an INDIVIDUAL? There's no one-size-fits-all or shortcut that comes from self-help but in our desperation, sometimes we would like to think so.
Love what you said. Yes unfortunately we're all seeking instant gratification and self-help delivers that every time. You're also right about acquiring knowledge and not applying it. I think we have to know when it's time to put down the books and just live life.
@@MalamaLife right? It's so easy to read all the books and feeling hyped! Yes totally agree with just live life!! Thank you so much for replying! Have a great week! 😌
What a beautiful video. You’ve summed up what I have been feeling about self help and being on a treadmill of productivity, having no clue where it all ends.
"When you preoccupyingly rate yourself, even if you succeed in earning a good rating you do so at the expense of obsessing yourself with success, achievement, attainment, and outstandingness. But this kind of concentration on success deflects you from the goal of trying to achieve happiness. For some of the most successful people, of course, remain abysmally miserable." (Albert Ellis)
Sounds like you're having some voice problems...allergies maybe? I enjoy your videos. You are very calming. You are like us all...searching. You've been made like that...to search. All the things you described as wanting can be found...Benjamin Franklin used to take each virtue and work on them for a week at a time. He did this rotation of virtues for his entire life. We all have been made to search...and it's not a WHAT that we're searching for. It's a WHO...we've been made to search for our Creator...but we have been designed to disobey that Creator. We were designed to disobey even as we search so that our Creator could show...and so that we could experience GRACE. Keep searching...one day you will find what you are looking for. I'll give you a fast track to the ending...It's the number one best selling book of all time...
You seem to be more of a stoic/daoist/Buddhist philosophy type of person. Following the natural order of things or simply to just be and accepting yourself. Whereas, most self help books are about becoming someone entirely different to be more “productive” more “successful” and whatever else is “more.”
sometimes i'm just so tired of self improvement and i will feel guilty about it. cuz all the videos, books and articles r telling us to become better, better version of ourselves, so shouldn't i picked up those advices and try harder? this video is really reading my mind! explain why i feel this way and tell us: it's okay to not follow what "self-help masters" said, but be aware of yourself, ur current state. we r not chasing to be perfectly self-improved. tune in and listen, follow your heart, and it will find its way to guide you through your journey.✨✨
Happy you can relate Tiffany! this has been on my mind for a long time and I'm happy to have this discussion finally :) you are so right about just being self aware and listening to your inner voice. this is very important
Interesting Topic Sophie. I think philosophy is a deeper more penetrating subject than self-help. Instead of self-help how about reading what some authors have to say about what's wrong with the world! ( I am being a spanner in the works!) I would recommend reading Industrial society and its future The manifesto Theodore Jahn Kaczynski. (The uni-bomber) and the Tribe on becoming and belonging by Sebastian Junger. Authors can explain paradoxes in us and our society.
It's sort of like fast food, delivering an instant gratification (hope), but not much more. It's someone else's life lessons simplified, but those don't always translate to others.
Your voice is so beautiful that I feel addicted to and watch your videos many times every day. Thanks u a lot for sharing wonderful messages and helping me realize lots of things
Self-help books aren’t actually fake you only need 1 book of this type to read , a lot of people try to buy many self-help books and think they can change or become billionaire wake up people the only thing you can do to chase success is by working most of these books are sold so the creators can make money they aren’t useful .
I so agree with you, I am my sixties and have read a lot of self help books in my help, rarely have I finished a book though, I get bored with it and the sameness of advise, also I usually feel empty by the advise like I am trying to live their version of life not mine. Understanding myself is a lifelong journey but as a Christian I know I have a purpose for my life so I now pursue God in these matters and it is so much more satisfying.
I read "Grit" by Angela Duckworth and a 'light bulb moment' kind of thing happened to me. And I was like , this is what I am missing . It helped me really grow . But literally there are many books I have read , seemed pointless to me . So , should I read more books 'on the particular topic' or move on ?? Sorry !! I wrote this much :))
Thanks a lot for sharing those thoughts. I found the distinction between self-help books and philosophy books very insightful and illuminating. I think it hit a point that I’ve been struggling with for a long time and clarifies why I felt much more motivated, powerful and “myself” after reading a Prentice Mulford book ages ago than any of many self-help books I’ve been half-reading and less applying since then.
If you want people to by something, you musst make them believe, they are lacking something. I'm not saying in general there is everthing, with. It's about consciousness, not getting lost in it. Never make yourself a golden calf, means don't belief what anyone says, you don't even know. This is not wise❣️ Do only, what you commonsens/feeling is telling you. Thank you, dear🌺
interesting topic. I agree to you. I remember when our pastor said: self contentedness will destroy you the more we focus to our self the more we might felt empty. That hits me so hard. I also red those books you showed but non of them can't give the beauty and wisdom of the Bible.
You shouldn't use self-help books as anything more than a compass to point you in a better direction. Each lesson is for you, and you alone to learn from
Excellent video amen. I got started/hooked on early Tony Robbins. Then a couple of decades later it was Robert Kiyosaki. I noticed at different times in life when I read them they always worked. But anything will work if you believe it will work. My problem has always been "Why" do I want this? I never answered myself to humble satisfaction and just said "no more." A couple of months ago I decided to remove all the self help, business and success books from my life. You're so right about a constant diet of not feeling good enough can wear a person down for sure. Thanks for sharing, James, Rescue Kitty😺 & Snowvan!
I've read many of the same books, and others not on the list. I went through a "self-improvement" journey over a several year period. What I found is that "self-help" IS effective. It's not that there is one magical book that makes the difference, it's more like each book has some gold-nugget in it and if you take what's valuable from many sources and combine them, that can make a REAL difference. My efforts were highly successful and resulted in me accomplishing some BIG goals I had. Books cant "fix" a person just by reading them. But if someone is really driven and commits to putting in a solid effort over an extended period of time ( using some ideas from the books ), great things can happen!
I have a similar experience with self-help books, they are so easy to consume and forget, without leaving much of substance behind. I would love to know which philosophical books you recommend! :) Thanks. You always come with truly insightful topics in your videos that I resonate so much with. Thank you for doing what you do
This is very true here is another way to put it take responsibility for where you are in life this is your life you should be in control of it I find that out with the Bible you seem very young if you realizing that because you have been disappointed I got news for you working on yourself is just as much disappointment
It depends on the person . Of course self help is one of good example . But we are human not a copy or robot . We just want to have a good life . Good contents ! Thank you
I haven't read any self help books personally, you seem to be following a certain path in your life, to reach your goal. Are you religious ?. Great video!.
You can only get so far from watching self help videos and reading self help books, the true learning experience happens when you apply the things you learned into your real life situations
I really love your videos. You are so calm and relaxed, that gives me so mich peace. In this hectic world I often feel like I don't belong because i value other things than most people. That's why i sometimes struggle because I forget that I don't need to reach those goals... I don't need to proof myself to others it is enough to know I that I know what I want... Thank you for your videos
I am so happy to hear this! I really appreciate your kind words and your support :) Sometimes we all need the reminder that we are enough just the way we are. big hugs from Maui
Great inspiration speech 🙂 your Videos are perfect and it motivated me to do everyday my Hobbys, thank you and God bless you 🙂. You are right, the happiness is very important for our life.
I so know what you're talking about, I've been reading self-help since my early 20's and now in late 50's. I transitioned to more spiritually minded books at around 38 along with yoga. I guess it is an individual journey and it always seemed I was led to the next book I needed. But I love how authentic and sincere you are, and you never say anything you don't really mean to say and are so obviously truly kind to the core, which is very rare. It's very inspiring and you are a leader.
Glad you can relate Eric. You're right about one book leading to the next. I'm putting down the books and just learning to make mistakes along the way. Thank you for your kind words

Aw thank you so much for your kind words. I am just grateful that I found people who enjoy discussing these similar topics as much as I do. It wouldn't be possible to continue to make these videos without you watching, so I appreciate so much :)
I see this topic as learning. For example, I learnt english and it opened another door in my life, not necessary an economic door since it is not my main mission on this life journey. In self help I learnt a lot things and expanded my own vision about human experience, since this planet was here before I was born, ppl were living and learning before myself. Something should worth it. I learned about my emotions and reactions with Abraham Hicks; NLP, hypnosis, meditation. Now I am learning how to see perfect clear without glasses, it also can be called "self help", I learned so much about my body, my nervous system, the connection about humans and Sun, diet, breathing. I think we as human beings who were programmed by television and internet, we need to unlearn a lot of false beliefs, in my opinion its not easier to find human experience that makes sense to you on urban area (daily life) so we end up finding on books.
sorry i'm late in the game! moving has been keeping me very busy! nice to see you sitting next to piano!! 😃 congrats on your first 1MM view video! much more to come!!!!
Self-help made me feel like I am not enough, I need more improvement in all directions and all the time. Unlike therapy it seeks the good in you and nourishes it.
"... in mightily striving for outstandingness, success, and superiority, you rarely stop to ask yourself, “What do I really want-and want for myself?” So you fail to find what you really enjoy in life." (Albert Ellis)
True, what's the point of gaining self help to improve our lives "by the book" when we don't even know what we actually want to gain for ourselves? What makes us happy? What is joy?
Lotsa self-help books in my younger years and now in my later years reaping the benefits. And helping the younger generation. When they listen that is.
Spot on! Much of the self-help industry encourages bypassing. I'm much more interested in wholeness than some curated idea of an ideal self. Life is messy, and compassion can help us appreciate all of it, even the difficult stuff. Love your ideas around this, Sophie.
Hi everyone! What is your experience with Self-help?
Real good but especially Owen Cook to be honest. The marketing side of self help is the toxic part, if you just see thru that you can actually help yourself. Books are the best and teachers with integrity. And life is pretty simple, but that’s hard for most people to understand. My favorite book is power vs force about frequencies you can function at 😁! I don't/can't read them because I struggle so much eventually I took it as a sign Self-help books are not for me.

Thank you so much Ricky :) I am so grateful for this awesome community.
I think there is nothing wrong in reading self help book as it serves as a life guide. But we need to be more careful in choosing self help books that fits our personality , goals or life values. One of the best self help book I got is How to Do the Work by Dr Nicole LePera a Psychologist. It helps you understand where your traumas are coming from, helping you parent your inner child & be more accepting in life :)
yes! I love your thoughts on this :)
The Bible is the best Book ever, it changes your life without you realizing it.....we are all fallen beings unable to help ourselves, we need help from above to figure out this life.
❤😊
this gave me another point of view! thank you
So happy to hear that :)
You opened my eyes
Love this video ♥️
Thank you :)

Recently discovered Alain de Botton, even though he’s been writing for decades. While he’s more a philosopher/essayist rather than a self-help guru, his sensitivity and insight into the human condition has been very illuminating and comforting for me.
Eckhart Tolle is also worth reading.
Instead of self-help, more emphasis should be put on self-awareness...learning about ourselves. What we truly want or makes us happy? Self-help is a fad to me. There is no magic solution that works for everyone. Great video. Mahalo!
Yes! self awareness and knowledge with life experiences :) its more impressionable as well. Thanks for watching
Exactly. Well said Bee. Spot on!
Such an important message. Keeping this in mind, it becomes easier consume content
Spot on Kat
@Natasha Vodianova Love this! Thank you! Sometimes we need to cocoon in a safe space to allow for the transformation to take place. But, yeah, the trouble is to not get stuck in that phase of comfort and protection and know we have the choice to seek, find, make mistakes, and feel all of it.
Actually the ugly truth is your shadow self. If you don’t face your shadow self and demons they will conquer you.
Yes! I really appreciate your comment as always Jaime! just consuming without taking action is such a waste and pointless. Thanks for watching :)

Yes!! So true. I agree
Absolutely agree!
I think you can really link this topic to the wabi sabi philosophy. In the end you need to accept that you will not « perfectly » use your day and « maximize » everything out of life. You are imperfect and that is what makes each day worth living.
Thanks for mentioning that. I agree with you completely. Those imperfections can make life more dynamic
I haven't read any self-help books but I'm am enjoying the journey of just learning myself and finding the joys. There is only one person like you; we are all unique in our own way, so it only makes sense that our self help will be unique as well. 💕😊 great video as always
I love that so much. Your attitude towards life is really refreshing my dear friend :) Thanks for watching Deandra
@@MalamaLife always happy to support 😊💕
Self help material may be a could start, but it is typically not deep and enduring enough for the long-term. This might be a better approach: "Be yourself--not your idea of what you think somebody else's idea of yourself should be." --Henry David Thoreau
This right here 👆🏽
Yes
I never thought about it that way and it does made me realized that it is true I keep reading self help to self improve, but whenever I fail to keep up to the advises and routine suggested from the books, I feel not good enough :// yea you're right not all formulas will fit everyone 🍀
I fall into this trap all the time, and noticed how toxic it was. Thanks for watching ❤😊
Yes! I felt like I was depending on these books to give me ideas and make me feel book in the moment, but mostly it was placebo effect.
"I want to be a person that can live by their values". yes. this.
🥰 one of my biggest goals!!
I agree with you completely. self reflection is the crucial part of any book
I find my books on Buddhism have been better than any self-help book and have helped me as much as any therapist.
Yes!! couldn't agree with your more.
You can read How to Do the Work by Dr Nicole LePera a licensed Psychologist, its one of the best seller this year in Amazon :)
I can't do what you do! But when I watch and listen to you I can enter a special place just for a few moments.

Thanks so much Anthony ❤😍👍
I am new and binged a few of your videos. I am so glad I am not alone who experienced struggles. I loved that you are talking on this. As a trauma abuse survivor i always had to ask okay cool how does this apply to my life. All the time.
definitely not alone :)
Self-help is not bad, but we need to remember that part of being a human being is having social needs. Having safe friends/family members also helps the growth/healing process. 🤙
🥰 yes!!
Such a great point. Let's embrace the journey and just allow ourselves to just "be" ❤ thanks Amanda
I'm glad that there is an audience who can relate :)
You’ve summed up what I have been feeling about self help and being on a treadmill of productivity, having no clue where it all ends.
yes!! I'm so glad you could relate. I'm happier just being content with my flawed self.
SELF-LEARNING....SELF-MEDITATION......SELF-DISCOVERING IN HEALTH AND MONEY MAKING ON YOUR OWN
😍❤👍yes!!!
I agree
I'll give you a fast track to the ending...It's the number one best selling book of all time...
thanks for sharing David. I'm feeling a bit under the weather and I tried to squeeze out the little voice I had left 😁
Best self help is to read Quran
You seem to be more of a stoic/daoist/Buddhist philosophy type of person. Following the natural order of things or simply to just be and accepting yourself. Whereas, most self help books are about becoming someone entirely different to be more “productive” more “successful” and whatever else is “more.”
Yes! I think you read me correctly 🥰
sometimes i'm just so tired of self improvement and i will feel guilty about it. cuz all the videos, books and articles r telling us to become better, better version of ourselves, so shouldn't i picked up those advices and try harder?
this video is really reading my mind! explain why i feel this way and tell us: it's okay to not follow what "self-help masters" said, but be aware of yourself, ur current state. we r not chasing to be perfectly self-improved. tune in and listen, follow your heart, and it will find its way to guide you through your journey.✨✨
It's someone else's life lessons simplified, but those don't always translate to others.
completely agree with that analogy!
Your voice is so beautiful that I feel addicted to and watch your videos many times every day. Thanks u a lot for sharing wonderful messages and helping me realize lots of things
You're so sweet 🥰 thank you so much
Self help only works when we address the cause, the cause imo is always on body.
Body is our unconsciouss mind.
I think they are great stepping stone, and than make your own decision
Agreed 👍❤
Self-help books aren’t actually fake you only need 1 book of this type to read , a lot of people try to buy many self-help books and think they can change or become billionaire wake up people the only thing you can do to chase success is by working most of these books are sold so the creators can make money they aren’t useful .
Hello. I hope my book can help others improve themselves if they are falling behind.
Great message very spritual it's a step towards buddha hood keep it up this is my third time watching your video keep it up.
What is the background music?
Which piece? It's all from epidemic sound :) but I can give you the name if you givce me the timestamp
Minimalism helped in self help..but sophie.🧚♀️..can u suggest ideas on financial tips ?..🧚♀️📿🇮🇳
I would love to share 🥰
I read "Grit" by Angela Duckworth and a 'light bulb moment' kind of thing happened to me. And I was like , this is what I am missing . It helped me really grow . But literally there are many books I have read , seemed pointless to me .
So , should I read more books 'on the particular topic' or move on ??
Sorry !! I wrote this much :))
If you love reading, why not read more on the topic. I think we just have to filter the message we get from reading any books
I'm so happy you can relate to me. Some self help books are disguised as philosophy books, but now I can spot the difference. Thanks Daniel :)
If you want people to by something, you musst make them believe, they are lacking something.
I'm not saying in general there is
everthing, with.
It's about consciousness, not getting lost in it.
Never make yourself a golden calf, means don't belief what anyone says, you don't even know.
This is not wise❣️
Do only, what you commonsens/feeling is telling you.
Thank you, dear🌺
Yes !!! Love this
I agree with so many comments below, thank you. I think you have to be careful,... you could start seeing yourself as a constant failure,...
Yes it's a slippery slope
Off topic but on a video you say you live in Maui
interesting topic.
I never answered myself to humble satisfaction and just said "no more."
A couple of months ago I decided to remove all the self help, business and success books from my life. You're so right about a constant diet of not feeling good enough can wear a person down for sure.
Thanks for sharing,
James, Rescue Kitty😺 & Snowvan!
I went through the same thought process as you James. It feels good to ditch the self help. Thanks for watching :)
Thank you for doing what you do
Maybe I can do a book recommendation video! Thank you for watching ❤
Thank you! Really eye opening - not one formula for all -. I like the idea of asking questions and reading philosophers.
Yes! this has helped me :)
I can relate cause I myself have this thoughts about self help books….. thank you for sharing
Thanks so much Abegail
This is very true here is another way to put it take responsibility for where you are in life this is your life you should be in control of it I find that out with the Bible you seem very young if you realizing that because you have been disappointed I got news for you working on yourself is just as much disappointment
Yes! I agree with you. Although I've known that all along, we find little reminders through different life circumstances :)
It depends on the person . Of course self help is one of good example . But we are human not a copy or robot . We just want to have a good life . Good contents ! Thank you

You can only get so far from watching self help videos and reading self help books, the true learning experience happens when you apply the things you learned into your real life situations

I can relate to your journey. I too have found the best 'self-help' books to be based on some form of spirituality especially Buddhist philosophy.
Life plan: write edgy self help book. Next, hire street team to publicly protest and boycott the book. Finally, cash dem checks.

Do you edit your videos on the HP laptop
Yes I do! this is a 5 year old laptop, but works fine :)
Thanks for sharing this!

Spot on! Much of the self-help industry encourages bypassing. I'm much more interested in wholeness than some curated idea of an ideal self. Life is messy, and compassion can help us appreciate all of it, even the difficult stuff. Love your ideas around this, Sophie.
