The whole band was trippin' balls, on some LSD from Jerry Garcia! Ha ha! So, yeah, the band was wrapped up, together, in the heart of the cosmos! One soul. It showed, for sure. Amazing, soul-felt performance. He was convinced he blew it, until he saw the film, years later.

When I try to encourage musicians, amateurs and professionals alike to participate on "Make Music Day" an annual held on June 21st each year to mark the first day of summer in over 1000 cities world-wide; the aim being to have live music on as many street corners around the world as can be, I always quote Carlos Santana who said, "When you play music, you bring light to the darkness." and boy do we need a lot of that.
I'd almost forgotten about Carlos - but then he collaborated with India Arie for a cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Instantly reminded me of why he has the reputation he does.
i met him last year. he was listening to me play my sax on the street and proceeded to give me major props on my playing and hung out for like an hour with us.
I was extremely lucky to see Santana live as a teen, thanks to my mom. Santana’s guitar tine on record is phenomenal but his tone live is a completely different beast
This was a very well done video. A great retrospective of Santana through the years/decades. Only thing I would have liked to see would be comments from Alex Ligertwood who did vocals on the Shango album (which was the tour I saw) and sang on the hit Hold On.
Carlos is amazing. My two favorite artists from the early days were Hendrix and Santaña. They aren't guitar players they were composers. Composers of amazing music.

To me santana is the best guitarrist in the world I think his creativity has no end just think about the variety of songs he has I do not think there is another guitsrrist in the world with such ceeativity
Same, when I needed it most, I played along all his music until I sounded like him. I was frustrated prior because I had learned from jazz teachers and theory. I couldn't seem to play with feel until I played along with his music. I do now appreciate learning Jazz and theory though, but now with feel.

Listening to Caravanserai made me think, "This is like nothing else," and hey, I'm a Pink Floyd fan. When Supernatural came out, it nearly brought tears to my eyes with the thought that a whole new generation could experience the passion and expressiveness of this musical genius that I'd come to know and appreciate. And when I found out about his entirely voluntary royalty payments to Otis Rush, it sealed the deal on my admiration of this giant of musicians and human beings.
Santana was my first rock concert…well, any concert now that I think of it. It was 1967 and I was 11 years old and my hideous stepfather took me to the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds (which is in San Jose, the county seat of Santa Clara County) and it was utterly fantastic!
Carlos is the man and has been for decades, no pretension, a master of his craft and a thoroughly nice dude as well. I think we all could try to be more like him. 🖖🎶💯 (p.s I wish he would tour the UK again... to see the band live is a bucket list thing for me.)

I was in the music video for Nothing At All. He was very gracious to all of us. I was standing in a doorway talking to another extra. He came up behind us. He introduced himself and thanked us for being in the video. Are you kidding? It was my pleasure!
I saw Santant in the Houston Astrodome back in the 70's. The music was great but Santana played with his back to the crowd almost the entire show. The music was great but he gave it his all to concentrate on playing.
What about Michael Carabello and David Brown? They are the only original members of the band who are not mentioned here. Although David Brown is no longer with us, surely something could have been found, and Michael Carabello is very much alive and well and it’s quite striking that he is the only living founding member of the band not included here.
Carabello had a lot of issues and Carlos tried to help him get off the streets at one point. Maybe Michael didn’t want to contribute or has not made any quotes relevant to the subject of this video.
Small point, Areas wasn't invited back into Santana because there were some issues regarding him and alleged (although he apparently did admit to some acts in a police interview) child molestation in 1996. Perhaps that explains why Carlos was a bit less than friendly with him?
Check the blessed intro solo on "Practice What You Preach" off the "Borboletta" album. He's not perfect, but you HAVE to be a good spirit drawing close to God to play like that.
Alot of people think he's like hendrix, truth is he is from the same cloth as hendrix, truly free the only thing is he didn't sing, he just knew how to make songs that matched whatever sound he wanted. If i could compare his style he's more like slash, or david gilmour, or U2s the edge, but he's still much more unique than all of them. Im not too familiar with his music but his guitar solos are truly special.

I played with Santana in 1975. Everything was mimed, he can’t even play the guitar in real life. All Santanas guitar parts were played by Jerome Pippington from Pippingfield in Pippingstock.
Incredulous to me that Mike Carabello was excluded from the bias conversation. Earlier this year Carlos announced from stage that He and Carabello started Santana in 1963. This egregious fluff piece is banal.
I've been to three Santana concerts in two continents.The best performance was when Santana played a small basketball court hall in Hilo Hawaii a day before my birthday way back in March 1993.
If you take away all that percussion and the macho male singer and just leave him with a bass and drums and take away those hats you'll see him for what he really is!

I played with Santana in 1975. Everything was mimed, he can’t even play the guitar in real life. All Santanas guitar parts were played by Jerome Pippington from Pippingfield in Pippingstock.

Incredulous to me that Mike Carabello was excluded from the bias conversation. Earlier this year Carlos announced from stage that He and Carabello started Santana in 1963. This egregious fluff piece is banal.
I've been to three Santana concerts in two continents.The best performance was when Santana played a small basketball court hall in Hilo Hawaii a day before my birthday way back in March 1993.
The Watsonville Concert tops it.
If you take away all that percussion and the macho male singer and just leave him with a bass and drums and take away those hats you'll see him for what he really is!
