      When you say that about literally every crime, the statement becomes meaningless. It's like yall can't think past "kill em or throw em away" for any crime above theft. Yes I agree the man is terrible but far from the worst out there and personally I'd rather not pay for all of his meals and medical care while he stays in prison for life. Yes taxes pay for those and yes I pay my taxes.

      @@Joekerr68I agree with your statement to a point
      Yes, housing and feeding people in prison sucks tbh
      But, the alternative is what seems to happen all too often
      Someone commits a horrible crime does a little time and gets out to reoffend even worse to do a little time to repeat the cycle over and over
      So, yeah, we would like some truth in sentencing, some Actual feeling of Accountability from the offender because the slap
      On the wrist bs we have now makes life More dangerous for Everyone
      But I see your point of the tax situation
      To me, there seems to be no Good answer
      Feels hopeless

      @@onetiredempath I know Sweden is a much smaller place, but I do think having a look at their policies on rehabilitation and incorporating them into our current system might be possible. People reoffend because prison is just a babysitting service instead of rehabilitation like it was meant to be. They sit there and think about ways they could have done it and such instead of being put to some kind of rewarding work and therapy.

      @@AKayfabe while I’m sure there are exceptions like in your case but generally it is not a good idea to introduce kids to gambling. Kid’s brains are still forming as teenagers and it puts the kid at risk for gambling addiction. It also fosters unhealthy thrill seeking behavior.
      That all said maybe your family is different and you had the maturity to be able to handle those kinds of environments but as far as average kids go taking them gambling isn’t a good idea. Hey Jiles,
    I’m an Aruban living abroad for many many years now, but this has been the best retelling of this case I’ve ever heard.
    You got all of the facts right and really highlighted how much of a conman Joran really is.
    One thing to note: while the authorities admittedly were slow to take her disappearance seriously, once they did, they never relented. It’s been one of the most expensive investigations to date on the island. Also, once the Aruban community became aware of her disappearance, there were hundreds of people volunteering in searches for her around the island. Aruba is a relatively safe island so it was awful to have this happen.
    Another note, lots of us locals are absolutely convinced Joran’s dad/someone else was somehow involved in the cover up. There is NO way Natalee’s body would have gone out to see in the manner that Joran had described. For her body to be picked up by the currents he would have needed to be a LOT further out to see than just being knee deep in the water. So he must have had a boat and some help. His father was also adamant that he not talk to the police.
    In the end, nothing will bring Natalee and Stephany back, such a shame their lives were lost in such a horrible way.
    Joran is a true monster.
    Take care Jiles and thanks again🍀

      I have also never believed she was put in the ocean. I think either his family/friends helped dispose of her and he’s covering for them or, she is buried somewhere. He knows if she was dug up, the shattered bones would tell the real story. Plus, keeping the body is a way for narcissist killers to continue to keep control over the victim and family. He won’t give her up unless he gets something that is worth more than that control.

    Omg this brought back a buried memory. I remember as a very young child hearing my mom talk about this case when the news about natalie first came out. Since i was so young it was the first time I sort of conceptualized the existence of murder, and the name "van der sloot" stuck in my mind. it scared me for weeks realizing people were capable of killing each other. somehow completely missed the 2010 murder years later and completely forgot about it until now. interesting to finally hear the full story

    Im in Alabama and my high school also used the same company to book our senior trip. I graduated in 2001 and we had the same exact trip. We had 7 people almost die from alcohol poisoning and spent most of our trip in the hospital. This stuff gets covered up by the companies and never talked about. The company that did these trips do not give a crap about the kids once they're there. They only care about getting that money. I don't know if they still do the trips but I hope they have stopped. I'm glad that Natalie's family got some kind of closure. I remember seeing her story on the news when she first went missing, and I knew that it was gonna end bad. She seemed like such a sweet person and that monster murdered her.

    22:40 I’m not sure that the Van de Sloots were unaware of their son’s behaviour…. I am sure they very much knew about it… the father particularly tried constantly to block law enforcements access to his son. He protected and enabled that creature regardless
    I can only imagine what it must be like to have my child accused of this crime, but I would like to hope that I would never behave like this father …

    I think his dad helped him get rid of Natalee's body. I think that's why the Kalpoe brothers were never charged, they legitimately didn't know enough to help police. If they did, I don't doubt they'd have flipped on Joran to save themselves. I think they dropped Joran and Natalee off at the beach and went home. Then after he killed Natalee, he knew he needed help from someone who would not incriminate him... enter dad. I think if his dad had been alive when Stephanie was murdered, he would have helped Joran evade police again. But his fixer was dead, and he was really hot headed and stupid, so he was finally caught.

  • @nigeljones482
    @nigeljones482 19 днів тому +2

    Joran is the product of family rejection the lies are part of his cover, the rejection became his trigger, once triggered every one of his emotions plus his anger will surface this is an unstoppable compulsion a deadly force that does not stop. His confession of how he killed Natelee is a lie, he is not about to give up his one trophy only Joran and his father know where her body is and his father is dead, Joran will die before giving up his this information, My heart goes out to the Holloway family, but he lied, her body is in the well on the Van der Sloot property, remember his father said no body no evidence, no proof the car was cleaned, documents went missing, the case was a mess from the beginning.

    I still don’t think this how it happened. This beach he’s talking about is a high tourist place. If he bludgeoned her to death, there would have been quite a bit of blood. This happened not too far from daybreak when people would have started coming to the beach. He also only went knee deep to dispose of her body?

    • @Ghost80
      @Ghost80 3 місяці тому +1

      I have never believed she was put in the ocean.

  • @iaintnoone

    I graduated the same year as Natalee, from her rival high school in Birmingham. This case was a huge deal in the area at the time and for years afterward. Every so often, Natalee’s name would come up in the news because Joran was flapping his gums again - more lies, attempted extortion, etc. I remember feeling very grateful that I was alive to attend college that fall.
    I’m still not sure Joran told the whole truth in his confession. The fact that Natalee’s remains will never be found is just sickening. And the fact that he’s still living, even after what he did to Stefany in Peru, feels like a middle finger in the face.

    It’s heartbreaking that even though he confessed to killing Natalie he won’t face any jail time for it because the statute of limitations has worn out in Aruba. His parents shouldn’t be surprised that he ended up killing 2 young woman they knew early on he was out of control and they didn’t get him and help they didn’t make him any consequences for his actions and this is the end result 2 families have to deal with the grief of losing their loved ones.
