It's really unfortunate people still think wagons and minivans are lame. This isn't the 80's with gigantic Chevy wagons anymore. These days, even regardless of how it looks, some simplebrain will still think it's a bad thing because it would classify as a wagon.
Yep, would be intelligent for Toyota to sell the Corolla wagon here, but they want you to buy a RAV4 if you need cargo space. Other countries have a lot more choices in vehicles than US and Canada. But no shortage of CUV, SUV, and pickups. VW is dropping their wagon in North America to replace it with a compact CUV. The only advantage to the Prius now is either the plug-in option and the hatchback shape that lets you carry more stuff than a sedan.
If I had to chose between the Prius or the Corolla Hybrid I would choose the Corolla. The Prius design I don’t like. However most will choose the Prius because they will want all to know how noble they are for driving a hybrid.
Joshua Graham - Wow, you sound more arrogant than any Prius owner I know. I opted for the Prius because of the hatchback design, which allows a lot of flat, usable storage. The styling is kind of odd, but I’ve become used to it.
I don’t understand what’s so hard about making a good looking hybrid. This one is one of the best I’ve seen. But why can’t they make the Prius actually look good
There is a lot of good looking hybrids. Good looking hybrids actually outnumber the bad looking hybrids especially when you count the super car hybrids.

I've never gotten below 60 mpg in hours. Very happy with it, get 61-64 mpg most of the time. Got 65 once. This is from the math at fillip. Don't trust the display. It's usually 2-4 mpg off in our case.
Spend $2000-$3000 more and get a rav4 le hybrid with 219 hp. Or as I did Tuesday since they aren’t dealing much on rav4 hybrids, I bought a highlander xle hybrid for over $9000 off msrp. Made it just a few thousand more than the rav4 hybrid. With over 300 hp and better equipped.
I bought a gas 2019 RAV4 LE. It is getting over 40 mpg. I don’t see a reason to buy a hybrid. The long term maintenance costs will be more than the gas savings. They knocked 6k off.
Q M V Cruise Control kills the mpg on my RAV. I use eco mode and watch traffic so I don’t brake much. It likes to be driven between 55 and 65 mph for the best mpg. 8th gear is very tall. I drive about 1/3 city, 1/3 exurban, and 1/3 rural. The engine shuts down at stop lights.

Very noisy and unrefined. If you're over 6 feet tall, it's too tight. Gas Mileage is great and so is resale. It's all I can say after driving it. Interior is very cheap, with tiny buttons. For a little more money, you're better off buying the Prius, and tons more interior room and better use.
When my lease ends next year i might have to go with one of these =/ coming from an ILX it might be tough. But i just simply cannot brush off that excellent fuel economy. I just started a new job that requires a ton of driving and the more i think about it, the more the corolla hybrid just makes sense.

How do you really know there is a donut or any spare under the fix a flat tray? I’ve lifted up some of those trays in other cars and there WAS a little bit of room underneath but no spare.
I'd say it's 8k more than this, most people drive it around empty and solo, they care about status symbol, I'd want a used one in three years, just too overhyped and overpriced at the moment.
Just like Toyota only offers the manual in the SE trim, the hybrid is only in the LE trim. Maybe in the future, they will offer in other trims. Since it just came out, they want to see how popular the hybrid Corolla will be
I'd pass on this myself and go for the SE with the 2.0L or the XSE hatch - be tough to choose, but they would a manual for sure. What about the Highlander for the "family" vehicle - Toyota reliability and can be had with a nice V6 with plenty of room for bikes, family etc... Definitely keeps it's value around here.
I just bought one, despite two main complaints I have - no blind spot monitoring and no spare tire. At least there is a place for a spare, and I am considering buying a temp spare to take up some of that space (and a jack and lug wrench, of course). I guess I need to “learn how to drive” and not run over nails and stuff.

I test drove one yesterday. I am 6’3”, and after lowering the seat some, I found the headroom adequate and the driving position comfortable - and I could just see the top of the speedometer through the steering wheel, which is not always the case for me. Maybe I am just more long-legged than you, but legroom was also acceptable - with the seat seat all the way back (just barely adequate). I liked the test drive enough to buy one. My 2013 Prius C, which I also just fit in, is going to my 6’2” (short) son.
Insight is more premium, drives better, has a larger trunk, offers Android Auto, and accelerates considerably more quickly. Corolla Hybrid will likely prove slightly more reliable beyond 250k miles and gets better fuel economy, particularly if you do a lot of highway driving at 75+ MPH.
I don't hate it, but it's almost frustrating how boring the dash is, I really think for a $600 upgrade, give it a JBL upgrade with Navi, heated seats, and either nicer hubcaps (to capture the same MPG) or nicer 16's rims (with maybe 1-2MPG loss), I'd take it. Methinks before this generation is up, they'll give it AWD. That would be another "take my money" option, too.
@Old Stock Canadian I mean fast enough to quickly accelerate to prevent from getting rear-ended! ( while merging) And No. It is Not Opinion ! It is Physics (hp/torque) Yaris; fit, corolla 1.8L; fiesta; CX3; HRV; etc.... ...does Not have enough power to get away from danger!
If you want a Toyota like Corolla, get a RAV-4 hybrid. I prefer regular RAV-4 because it has a regular 8 speed automatic. The Corolla is a car fit for college kid or recent grad or as a Uber car, thing else. They are good but too small
25Gs is a lot for what it is. Id take a new Jetta and get 40 on the highway with 184lb-ft of torque at a very low rpm.. This is perfect for someone who needs a daily driver for the highway and makes hella miles each year
121 hp is lower than the 1.8 gas engine at 139 hp. Other trims offer a spare tire. The rear seat is a little more squished than the old model. Push Button is not standard on other trims. The only other trims with that digital guage is the XSE/XLE
I have always loved my Toyota’s but I haven’t bought one in years. No Android Auto no buy. Very hard to get away from useful amenities. Maybe they can just start buying Uconnect systems from FCA as they seem to joint venture a lot these days. Love the Mopar hat
Toyota doesn't care though. They still selling cars like crazy without android auto. Looks like most people just put their eyes on the road and just drive as the car is supposed to be used and dont even use the infotainment system most of the time. Too much distraction Without android auto, the rav4 was still kicking everybody's butt in sales. In fact, among all compact cuv,s the rav4 had the biggest growth from 2016 to 2019. The rav4 hybrid sales went nuts without android auto. The rav4 hybrid basically has no competition in terms of sales, even without android auto.
@@roylappin4491 I really like the RAV4 Hybrid. But, it's a little big for me and my needs. I guess the UX 250h is more in my line. But it feels so much like that Corolla Hatchback. So a Corolla Hatch with the UX 250h powertrain would be pretty close to perfect for me.
I’d choose the Prius because it has a lot more space and is more comfortable and you get a damn spare tire. Well hey I own a Prius and love it. That dash layout on the corolla is just hideous as bad as the new Ford Explorer 2020
I would choose the Corolla for sure. The Prius is often used by its owners as some virtue signalling statement about how "green" they are. I would rather just have a hybrid that looks like any other Corolla. I will absolutely consider this for my next car (listen to your wife! lol).
The Honda Insight seems to be a step above from this model. And a way more handsome design. But this Corolla is more appealing than the goofy looking Prius. Especially since we now know that the Prius' weird looks doesn't contribute to low fuel consumption. 54mpg out of a conventionally designed car? Why go with the fugly car?

Maybe I am just more long-legged than you, but legroom was also acceptable - with the seat seat all the way back (just barely adequate). I liked the test drive enough to buy one. My 2013 Prius C, which I also just fit in, is going to my 6’2” (short) son.
Tibia bones can be shortened.
You should do a comparison between the Honda Insight vs the corolla hybrid.
@@Pikminiman What if primarily doing city driving? Is insight a better option?
It’s a pretty sharp looking car. Needs a little more power tho
It's a hybrid. If you want more power instead of better mpg then go with the non-hybrid version.
Ur wife said no on a Telluride but ok on a corolla !
Now you need to find some 17” Prius wheels to put on it.
How does it compare with features and price of the Prius?
My 16 Accord has Android auto. Come on Toyota. And fix those awful front ends.
Just bought one last Saturday. Was showing 670 miles at full tank. Almost drove 100 miles and still showing 610.
Same, depends on where and how you drive. I'm getting 56 mpg on 10 gal. Closer to 550 miles.
Gas mileage is not everything ! Comfort, driving pleasure & enjoyment win out.
Awesome review sir!
Does it have enough power to slow down and then quickly merge onto freeway traffic??
@Old Stock Canadian
I mean fast enough to quickly accelerate to prevent from getting rear-ended! ( while merging)
And No. It is Not Opinion !
It is Physics (hp/torque)
Yaris; fit, corolla 1.8L; fiesta; CX3; HRV; etc....
...does Not have enough power to get away from danger!
If you want a Toyota like Corolla, get a RAV-4 hybrid. I prefer regular RAV-4 because it has a regular 8 speed automatic. The Corolla is a car fit for college kid or recent grad or as a Uber car, thing else. They are good but too small
Now Toyota joins others with just the tire kit. Otherwise this is an economy car, great mileage.
Other trims do offer a spare tire
25Gs is a lot for what it is. Id take a new Jetta and get 40 on the highway with 184lb-ft of torque at a very low rpm.. This is perfect for someone who needs a daily driver for the highway and makes hella miles each year
That VW is also perfect for someone that enjoys having their car constantly need repairs with the added bonus of expensive parts.
121 hp is lower than the 1.8 gas engine at 139 hp. Other trims offer a spare tire. The rear seat is a little more squished than the old model. Push Button is not standard on other trims. The only other trims with that digital guage is the XSE/XLE
next week I am going to buy I am so excited
I would love to but this hybrid in an se or xse trim level
Canada has a Premium package it is $2000. wonder if I can import to Washington State?
Great looking new Corolla sedan
I have always loved my Toyota’s but I haven’t bought one in years. No Android Auto no buy. Very hard to get away from useful amenities. Maybe they can just start buying Uconnect systems from FCA as they seem to joint venture a lot these days. Love the Mopar hat
Toyota doesn't care though. They still selling cars like crazy without android auto.
Looks like most people just put their eyes on the road and just drive as the car is supposed to be used and dont even use the infotainment system most of the time. Too much distraction
Without android auto, the rav4 was still kicking everybody's butt in sales. In fact, among all compact cuv,s the rav4 had the biggest growth from 2016 to 2019.
The rav4 hybrid sales went nuts without android auto. The rav4 hybrid basically has no competition in terms of sales, even without android auto.
This guy really loves himself. Cool Hand Luke.....................
I'd be interested in the hatchback with Hybrid and AWD-e. But, that will never happen.
Take a look at the RAV4 hybrid!
Wow that Magic Trick! 3:44 HAHAHA
Wish the hatchback had the rear leg room of the sedan.
Too bad they don't sell the Corolla wagon in USA......more leg room and cargo capacity than the hatch..........
Here in Canada it's offered with a premium package.
2023 Honda Civic Sport hatchback hybrid with 18” wheels coming.
Cool
And most importantly.... it doesn't LOOK like a Prius!
Cool video men.
Most other reviews mentioned wind noise.
It does have a button inside for the trunk
I’d choose the Prius because it has a lot more space and is more comfortable and you get a damn spare tire. Well hey I own a Prius and love it. That dash layout on the corolla is just hideous as bad as the new Ford Explorer 2020
Interior volume versus Prius?
Does it feel cheap inside? Looks to be a whole lotta plastic and cheap cloth.
US doesnt get 2.0 hybrid? Too bad, its fast- 180 bhp, and frugal, and has bigger 18 wheels option.
Unlike your wife, I prefer the Telluride; Kia has made strides in recent years
I would choose the Corolla for sure. The Prius is often used by its owners as some virtue signalling statement about how "green" they are. I would rather just have a hybrid that looks like any other Corolla. I will absolutely consider this for my next car (listen to your wife! lol).
54 mpg - wow.
love your voice!
Nice muscular legs Mr Ericson!!!
He’s an Ironman competitor.
Yes his legs are legendary.😂
If you want something bigger.....check the spec of the LE 2019 Camry.....very close to the Prius.....has to be the LE Model
I've been getting 53 mpg on it.
S. D. H. .... Looks like a carp! Lol
Is there a hybrid hatch?
The Pruis is a hatch. There's also the Kia Niro
Thanks
Dave, I noticed your massive chest, muscular legs, huge biceps
and popping veins. Looking good, as always. Nice review on the
car too!
Toyota will make Android Auto available in Australia by the end of 2019.
