  • After finding the "Flower Nugget" while high banking my Dream Claim I decided to investigate the calcite seams around the area I found the raw gold. I took a good size sample of the bedrock and crushed it down using the "Crazy Crusher" Panned it all out and found more hard rock gold from the crush.

Yup, I don't get it. Why frag this guy? He seems to be good dude. His videos are great. He does find gold, and I assume makes some money from UA-cam, so why troll him with nasty comments? Gold and all the other stuff he looks for is expensive. You actually don't need to find that much to live comfortably. If you found an once of gold a week, you would live pretty good. Wonderful beauties!
Dan, when I started prospecting, I bought some cristaline gold ore samples in different matrixes, just to know what my eyes to train for.
One sample was "gold in calcite" from the north western italian alps, from Aosta. I put a part in ordinary muriatic acid and etched part of it free. I harvested wunderfut gold cristals standing on the calcite.
Those crystals looked roundish alike what you are finding right now.
Find the vein, get the good chunks and etch the gold free. No need for fire essay then.
    Have fun and stay crazy!

I was thinking he should hook an electric motor onto it and connect that to the truck's system and run it to do the crushing lol I definitely agree on the second, him carrying that tote down to the river may have agitated the material enough to cause the gold to make its way to the bottom.

That piece o’gold is amazing!!!! Talk about “flower gold” ha! And that picker (yes I’ll call it a picker!) looks very fresh out of quartz. Reminds me of a 16/1 piece.

Live watching gold panning videos before I sleep. Some reason I find them satisfying to watch. I had a dream last night that I was gold panning.....which is hilarious because I don't even think there's any gold near me.

I think I would take a good look at the transition area between the quartz and the calcite. That Crazy Crusher is one slick gizmo, but I bet it costs a few hundred clams. I pan a creek where the source of the gold is unknown because it's in a designated wilderness area that has closed to commercial mining since the 1800s and so no exploration has been done. I've hand crushed many samples in search of the source material so I would know what to look for upstream, but so far I've come up empty. It may be a soft material like calcite and therefor the gold is completely liberated from the material by the time it gets downstream where I'm panning but I won't know for sure until I can find a piece of gold in host rock. A gizmo like that would certainly improve the odds by enabling me to crush many many more samples in much less time. I'll have to look up the cost for consideration.

My parents were born and raised in the Appalachians; in a coal-mining town by the name of Appalachia, to be exact. My dad used to take us hiking through the trails when we went to visit; up around the mountains and down next to the Powell River, and he would find rocks in the river that he called "dinosaur eggs." He explained to us that they weren't actually dinosaur eggs and how the river water formed their circular shape and the rocks (full of minerals) came out of the mountains into the water and made these beautiful "dinosaur eggs." There's not just gold up in them 'thar hills...there is breathtaking beauty and some kind of infinite knowledge that is gained by just allowing yourself to observe it and to learn from it. We were also rock hounds, but I don't know how much of our collection was left after he passed. I can't seem to find it. My dad was the smartest person I've ever known in my life, but you're a close second, Mr. Hurd! Keep on keepin' on!

Hello again Dan, I completely agree about having fun even if you’re not finding the gold. I was out panning yesterday and ran into an older guy that joined me in my walk up the creek and he recommended a spot for me to dig and it wasn’t the great spot he thought it was going to be and he started apologize to me for recommending a not so good spot but I had to stop him and tell him it’s all good, that’s just part of the fun. I was just glad to have some company and get some advice from someone with more experience than I have. Every trip is a new adventure and I love it all.

That Little Rock crusher mounted on the back of the truck is such a great idea.!! The only thing I would probably modify on this nifty little product is a little shoot off to the side underneath so that it would direct your material one way or another instead of straight down.. super cool either way.! Thanks for sharing.!!
