We're back with another weekly vlog renovating a property in Argentina! So what did we get up to this week?
Well, for starters, it was a busy one ordering tools and materials. Thanks to one of our neighbours, we discovered that Mercado Libre (the equivalent of Latin America's Amazon) does in fact deliver to our remote mountain village! That was a game changer because we no longer need to run into town multiple times a week, plus we've been able to find some really good deals online.
This was also a week of pretty challenging temperatures. It was cold, foggy and humid! You'd think as Canadians we'd be used to low temperatures, but it's different here in Argentina where we've been renting a house that only has one wood-burning stove! We kept that stove running day and night for a solid week.
In this video, we'll also share some of the mistakes and shortcuts that we keep finding in the chalet we're renovating. It's been especially frustrating for my Dad who worked in construction and has very high standards for everything, so we've been trying to fix what's fixable.
We'll also show you what our meals have looked like and some of the animals we've been befriending. This is another weekly vlog of what our daily life looks like up here in the mountains! We hope you enjoy it and we'll see you in the next episode.

Next weekend we're launching a crowdfunding campaign in our village to help restore a building we donated, which will be used by the community. You can read more about it here ➡ fomento.villaberna.ar/en ⬅ but more will be revealed in the coming days! 😊

Daniel, what the heck? You should know better. In Argentina you NEVER leave workers alone in a job site to their free will. You must always be standing right next to them. Even then they screw up as soon as you turn to look the other way. It's not a custom. It's a sickness.

How exciting! I've heard so much about the amount of rural properties available in Japan. Will you be documenting your renovation?! I know what you mean about summer - it's too hot to handle, better wait until autumn. All the best, Audrey

Every time i see your videos I can't help to wonder how we go through life building memories, I think one day you'll miss not having the perfect heating, or having to take care yourselves of some plaster, I feel like sometimes those are the moments that make us grow and stay with us. Love to have you guys in Córdoba, such a magical place this province is, sometimes crazy, a little like Alice in wonderland but if one can overcome its adversities, it's a most welcoming place.

Just like Samuel, I prefer working outdoors. Working in the garden is therapeutic, like he said.
Daniel is so funny, implying the toilet tissue is serving dual purpose... 🤣🤣🤣
I love watching your interactions! ❤

Hola Audrey Samuel y Daniel.

This area is a tourist hot spot in the Sierras of Cordoba - we're close to some well-known towns that host multiple festivals throughout the year. It's mostly cottages and guesthouse in our area, but our village reaches full capacity during the summer months and holidays. We'd be the first hotel, but we know it has the potential to do very well.

Wow another awesome video by you guys. I'm sorry for the uneven and shoddy workmanship that your dad, Daniel, has had to try and fix. I'm sure you will find some way to fix the kitchen to your liking as well. Ha... the kitty ate the pastry. Looks like all of you eat so well (including the cat and dogs). We just got back this afternoon after 3 weeks in Italy. We actually flew in yesterday to Sofia, but were so tired (up since 5am) that we just stayed there for the night and came in today. We are so happy to be back home and happy that our Olive (Olive Tree) survived three weeks very well without us.

Honestly, it's best to be here in person. Most real estate offices are small family run businesses and they aren't very good about updating online listings.

Hi from Dave in Mahone Bay Nova Scotia, I'm travelling to Buenos Aires early Sept, be cool to stop in and see your project. Your Dad is doing a great job. your feeling a taste of winter, did you see the amazing snow in Patagonia, the sheep and cattle had to be rescued by the military. Hope you get to move in soon. I'm staying for 3 months so will get to enjoy Argentine cuisine .Keep up the great work . Dave.

Hi Dave, we actually won't be there in September, otherwise you'd be most welcome! That being said, you've chosen a nice time to travel to Argentina. Springtime is beautiful and if you're staying for 3 months, you'll get to see the jacaranda in bloom! We did see the footage of the epic winter storms in Patagonia - we had friends sending us photos! We couldn't believe the temperatures or the amount of snow they experienced - it's all very unusual. Wishing you a wonderful trip! It's coming up soon!!

Harriet and i had similar problems when renovating our property in Portugal. Getting good help in construction in a variety of specialties can be a challenge. We had ours. Daniel, we know
how you feel. Having to do the work twice is not fun. It does make a big difference having the right tools for the right job. Nevertheless, at the end of the day; A great meal after an grueling day makes it all worth. You guys are going in the right direction. Hang in there. When it's all set and done. We would like to stay with you guys and hang out. Hope you're doing ok.
Sending lots of love❤ from Harriet, Jim and Yuki (home from a beautiful and fun wedding )

Hey guys from Argentina here. You are putting so much work and effort there, leaving the place will probably become more and more difficult with time. It's okay to have a Tramontina set for general purposes. For the heavy work you are doing though it's very convenient to have a shovel from brands like Gherardi, Dogo, Biassoni, one "pala de punta", and one "pala ancha". Quite an investment, but if you take care of it, you buy a shovel once, maybe two times in your life. Cheers for the improvement.
