@Shandy Staggs maybe my experience with current AI is not what you have, but even general responses based more on what you type back (currently not an option on ACNH) as opposed to blah canned replies over and over again would be an improvement.
I would love a separate observatory building for her. 2 floors. 1st floor a shop or display area. 2nd floor a constellations dome. Just think how cool it would be to have a beautiful dome shaped building in town or on a hill top looking over the ocean.
OMG yes like imagine being able to document different constellations and plants. Like we would be able to use the telescopes 🔭 to see into the sky and for every new constellation or planet we find we can go to Celeste and she could give us a diy. And the exhibit would be a sky like dome where you can see the sky map.
@@em6644 New Leaf didn't have it, Celeste ran a gift shop upstairs, but what was cool though was that you could rent 4 rooms to decorate any way you wanted, so it gave you extra rooms for like gyroid displays (what I did), or really, anything you wanted.

I agree! I also really wish there was a feature where you could make the characters that come to your island actually stay on your island and become villagers. (For example: wouldn’t it be cool if you could make Daisy Mae your villager? Preferably it wouldn’t be easy, as you’d first have to do a little quest for her so that you can convince her that staying on your island is better than staying with her grandma Joan…..)
I would love to see a "sweet or sour" option for the villagers. If you select "sweet" your villagers would be nonconfrontational and would never move out unless you asked them to just like in NH. However, if you select "sour" they'd have a bit more edge to them and randomly leave your island like in the older games. There could be other stuff done with this mechanic as well, like maybe certain villagers wouldn't show up at all depending on which option you chose. Or perhaps you could chose "sweet and sour" and it would just be all out chaos. Some villagers would move out on their own, some you would have to give permission to move out. Some would tell you that you smell like barf and some would call you a fashion mogul. So no matter what your preference was, you'd be set. It could still be kid friendly, but it could also satisfy older players who grew up with the series.
@Fazxah well to be fair new leaf came out in like 2012 and for the 3ds. The graphics are a decade old and are being blown up on your screen when recorded.
One thing I hope they add in the next animal crossing game is Vacation Homes/Apartments for players that are frequent visitors on the island/town that they can decorate

I would love to have a museum wing where you can choose the exhibits yourself and make for example an egyptian exhibit, a pirate exhibit or a mermaid exhibit (preferably multiple at once). There are so many collections to be completed in the game and I find it kind of sad that most of them just stay in storage because they don't fit the aesthetic of my island.
New Leaf had that, it was on the first floor of the museum it was run by Celeste and the player could buy rooms to put whatever items he or she wanted.

I had an idea I told a few friends about: treehouses. Crafting materials: a whole tree, iron, wood, and even junk like cans and tires. This would be a small home that you can pick up, put in your inventory and move around as you wish. The inside contains things like a tin can on a string that you can use to call one of your villagers up to hang out. I call this the Tree.0 update.
This is a bit odd, but I'm really impressed by the attention to detail that went into the sound design of ACNH, so I'd love to see them add the ability for designers to assign specific footstep sound codes to custom designs that are used as floor tiles. In ACNH, all custom paths sound disturbingly quiet compared to in-game paths, so it would be really neat if custom designers could make their street designs sound like you're walking on the stone path, or their wooden plank designs sound like you're walking on the wooden path, if that makes any sense.
The ability to lock furnitures so that you won't accidentally pick them up when gathering material and crafting recipes for like door or gates that the player can lock useful for letting visitors in.
Regarding having everything at launch, I would be plenty happy if the events and seasonal items were the only things locked in updates. I thought it was really special how time travelers couldn't access the events right away in New Horizons to make them special for everyone.

New Horizons is a great base for the next entry. Things like the terra forming, villager dialog, other quality of life features, and more special characters need to be improved. Tortimer and it's multiplayer mini games need to return to give players something to do besides run around your/their islands aimlessly. Personally, I feel that the island setting is too limiting. New Leaf being a town was perfect. The island itself could be a private resort that you could customize to your hearts content in the next game, alongside a city/town as the main land. Or to tldr; make New Leaf 2 with the new additions from New Horizons, as well as improving the features from both to make the perfect AC game. It's sad to see Animal Crossing and Splatoon in such sad states. Hopefully, the devs put all their focus into one game next time so both can truly shine.
I want a fully controllable camera. Every time I play the Animal Crossing track in Mario Kart it feels me with a yearning for an AC game to actually look like that.
I want the new game to have a feature where you could actually become friends with *some* of the special NPCs that aren’t villagers and if you become best friends with them you could potentially even get them to stay on your island forever and become your villager. Like…I don’t know, Daisy Mae?
That’s also where the special NPC fetch quests come in. Like for Daisy, she could ask you to go get some turnips from anywhere you can find them (and if you don’t….well bad luck because unless you buy her turnips Daisy will refuse to stay with you and she’ll say that she’ll still continue to live with her grandma just because….)
I want the next game to actually feel like an Animal Crossing game. New Horizons felt like a building game with a few life sim aspects that were mostly bland

Agreed, I always enjoyed animal crossing for the Sim aspects. Villagers had jobs for me or had a lot to say, catching things for the museum, and keeping the decoration to my home. I'm not very artistic and ended up not liking anything I'd make in horizons. I look at what people could do and I admit it looked nice but at the same time it never felt like animal crossing. I remember the original and how I found the simplicity of the little town in the woods so charming.
I’d love to see some sort of way to track and display gyroids we’ve collected, like as a new section to the museum or maybe an extension to the roost. Idk, I just think that would be really cool. Obviously it wouldn’t work very well if it was done exactly like that either museum sections because of the noise, but having something similar to the critterpedia and then maybe a wall in the roost where you could display your favourites would be really nice and a nice way to add more interactions with Brewster. Also I never played any of the old games but being able to have a job in the roost sounds amazing so I’d love if they brought that back as well
4:38 i dont really want everything at launch, but i do want to have requirements in order to unlock it. Ive reset my island and was sad when i couldn’t unlock everything again and just got everything laid out for me, i was sad when i found out the wetsuit could be bought straight up and the announcement that the oceans were safe for swimming was gone, i also miss waiting on the home screen for a minute with butterflies in my stomach whilst waiting for animal crossing to update, i miss that feeling and wish it would return, i thought that when i reset that feeling would come back, but it didnt and i wish it would, but the best thing i think we have to that feeling is locking main features away with game requirements like how you unlock the upgraded nooks, there’s so many things i would want to add to acnh, and i cant fit it into a single comment, but this is the main thing, being able to have that same feeling i did waiting for all the updates.
something you neglected to mention was quality of life; every single video game, but especially animal crossing one's going forward, should prioritize quality of life things after most coding is done.
I'd like more complex terraforming opportunities. Like the arches in Happy Home Paradise, caves and underground areas to nearly double the island room we have, creating small islands in the ocean connected by bridges and docks and shallow water we can WALK on! These are obviously extreme but with the overwhelming success of New Horizons I could strangely see it happening.
Like I've said before, I want to be able to change the camera angle outside, like how you can inside homes in New Horizons. It would make the game so much more 3D and life like. In my opinion it would make the game better.
Custom community buildings. My island is filled with community lots, from a grocery store to a post office, an arcade, pub and restaurant etc etc. I would love the ability to just have them be actual buildings like the ones in Happy Home Paradise and have the ability to assign villagers to have jobs there and get to decide how long they work there and on which day. So you could for example have a church building with service on sunday morning hosted by whatever villager you assigned it to!

We should do something more with the wands I think a good mechanic would be using them on rooms. Also, I think the wands should let you pick the same item twice if it’s two different slots! able sisters should have a shopping basket so you’re able to get multiple shirts or multiple dresses while in the dressing room!
I pretty much got what I want when the devs added farming to the game. So what more could I ask? Interactive emotions, I would really like to be able to high five or hug my villagers (the player would need to get max friendship level for that to work obviously). More objects to interact with (like climbing on a scale, swimming in the swimming pool, calling villagers with the phone… Being able to write to villagrs that leftthe island would also be neat by the way), being able to swim in the river, maybe being able to choose what kind of climate our island/town could have, jobs included in the main town and that the player himself could do like in New Leaf with Rooster... Being able to place tents and RVs and get inside like in Pocket Camp, more crossovers with Nintendo games (Neko Link for Toon Link for example, or Mario and Luigi Kangaroos). Maybe being able to rotate the camera outside (even if that would take away some of the charm of those games). But most of all, I'd like for the next game not to take anything we had in NH away. That's my biggest fear. I still want to terraform, I still want to farm, I still want to be able to place items outside... That's the reason why I'm more hoping for a big update in the future like Welcome Amiibo did in New Leaf or the Expansion Pack did in MK8DX. EDIT: I saw the idea of being able to ride a bike in another comment and I like it so much that I'll add it in (and throwing sk8board while we're at it for the players that prefers more urban towns... It kinda goes along my wish to be able to interact with more items).
Would love for there to be more interaction between villagers and items. Especially some of the items like the sandbox or the tea cup ride. How cute would that be?

I want the ability to play animals and have customization while being an animal character, I don't care if they just start us off with being existing animal crossing animal villagers like Rosie and Meow and Mitzi and Isabelle and Ankha, I wanna be an animal, I can't seem to get into these games for they never really have that much to do
Going from New Leaf to New Horizons was like having a full day of no glasses but then getting a new pair of clean, perfect prescription glasses for me I still have forever favorites though Phoebe, Bangle, and Mitzi Because they were all respectively a part of the greeting group in New Leaf Also my favorite specials are Isabelle, Rover, and Blanca Share a similar name, Funky Cat, Funny Cat
One idea to add would be to have more mechanics to town hall / stores in the HHD DLC. For town hall; 1. You could appoint a villager as an island representative (who would essentially do what your say. E.g. pull weeds, ask for donations from villagers, etc.) 2. You could have city hall meetings where all your villagers discuss the island and other villagers 3. You could preplan outdoor parties, and random villagers would visit (similar to building kits + K.K. on HHD DLC) For HHD DLC; 1. Cooking minigame at the restaurant (you get a cooking DIY afterwards) 2. Mini Quiz at the School (you get a consumable / clothing item depending on your grade) 3. Doctor Minigame at hospital (something easy like - Villager walks in with headache, and you're given options for treatment) All of which could give unique items after a certain amount of games are played (similar to DAL traveling) Other easy ideas: - More villager personalities - 10x More flavor text - Villagers need to be more emotional (higher % chance of getting angry / sad / etc.) - Have a follow mechanic for villagers - Have more than 1 conversation with a villager at a time - 100% customizable house on the outside (similar to advance designs) - Increase % chance of random event minigames with villagers and tons more
I would love for furniture to "interact" more with other furniture. For example, I have a simple bathroom sink and a soap dispenser. My soap dispenser stays on top of the sink, but in the game, there's no way to do that except for a random table next to the sink. Imagine if you could build shelves and populate them with whatever you want... Also I need a dialogue rework, peppy villagers are soo annoying and repetitive. I want more diverse responses, I can't stand peppy villagers ALL talking about being popstars
i hope the next animal crossing isn’t just going to be "new horizons 2", but a totally new concept and approach to the series. i think new horizons is good as it is, so i want the next game in the series to not focus on decorating your island, but something else… travelling maybe? building friendships with strange animals from all over the world? living in a city? i don’t know, but i’m excited for whatever is coming!
i feel so weird about ACNH like i feel that it improved a lot and added cool things but at the same time it went back, a lot of the updates were returning things with some new stuff, but theres a lot of new things they could've added or just old things like the console minigames, i think the game is fun and really pretty but it feels lifeless, we have 8 personalities just for the characters to feel like they have no personality. if you dont have a clear vision to decorate your island or a objective then you pretty much have nothing to do, in the other games there were some things you could do, for a game that wants you to log in everyday i feel like it doesn't give you much of a reason to come back to it every day
I really want the next game to be in a more urban setting, or at least have the option for it. Even with customisability in the city area. I've always been one to make urban-like areas in my town, all the way back to Wild World. And it has honestly killed me that the town is forced to be on an island. Even with the much improved ability to decorate.
I guess having a mine was a good idea after all... question is... where is a good location to put the entrance... on Elevation 0 (ground) or Elevation 3 (limit)?

They’ve changed villagers’ personality types in the past so I’d imagine a new type or two could be easily added. A jokester personality could be a fun idea or maybe a intellectual or hobby loving personality type. They could share fun facts and tasks to perform in the game or tips on farmer or flower breeding!
maybe like usable nintendo switches, like, instead of the switch screen, maybe they can make the little character use it or something! it would be a lot of work but i mean, it seems cool, i want enemies too, like yeah you kind of have that when you hit a villager with your net, but it would be funny if you could like hit them with your slingshot and you can throw stuff at eachother xd, and i want some more meaner villagers like a Sue E types.
For me, I really want an animal crossing game that's like the movie. - A house that has a porch (which we can sort of simulate now with accent walls but I want to be able to walk outside and not feel like I'm still in a room) - Bridges that connect the land (with water still being able to be under it if we want that raised bridge feel - A cave system where we can get lost and find fossils (you mean to tell me that I can just find dinosaurs in the surface of my island from all time periods??) - Villagers that do their own things (like actually catch fish and bugs at the very least) and have interesting lives and personalities that are different even within their own personality category (and don't make personalities gender locked and also possibly add a non-binary option for players and villagers) - Allow repeated visitors to have friendship levels with your villagers and have those villagers talk about their friend who lives in another town Maybe I just love the movie too much but man, it sure does make animal crossing life feel a lot more complete and real
Just mentioning most games take at least 3 months for a new update to release due to the Switch Platform having very strict QA processes that can take multiple months to approve.
I wish there were more buildings you can add on your island like you can have in the DLC but each additional building is fully customizable depending on the island theme you want. I also think it would be really fun to include villagers being employees at these buildings, obviously it doesn't have to be full time 24/7 but it would be nice to have some even work part time!!
I would like there to be new mechanics for relationships with the villagers. It would be cool to know which NPCs got along or didn't and what our relationship statis was with villagers. I feel like there is so much untapped potential with the NPCs, and they could be doing so much more.
Just because the game isn’t getting updates doesn’t mean it’s dead! It’s still very popular! But yeah, I’m really hoping for a new Animal Crossing game at any time. I’d buy it on the spot!
I really want interactions with villagers to be way better. More variety of dialogue from personalities, maybe even add some new personalities or bring back the interests system, and give the player more options to respond in the way we choose. Also to use reactions during conversations and have them actually matter.
I honestly don’t think that we’ll get a new AC game any time soon. So far nintendo has never done two main games on the same console and the switch is still selling so well that I don’t think they’re in a hurry to release a next gen console. I imagine that if we get anything (and I’m not even sure we will) we’ll either get an update to new horizons next year or the year after similar to the New Leaf Amiibo update or they’ll release another spin off. Maybe they’ll parcel up Tortimer and his mini games for a party, multiplayer game a bit like that wii game “that should not be named.”
A city folk style city with online compatibility which if you choose to connect it becomes a lobby with a dozen or so other players would be so incredible.
Whoa whoa whoa I hit the ceiling when I saw that Dragon Quest reference. Never thought I'd see that on your channel, Kora. Another feature I thought would be useful is the giant treasure chest mechanic. Whenever your pockets would get full any new items you pick up would automatically get transferred to the chest in your house. That way you wouldn't have to waste time on a return trip to dump everything you don't need.
I wonder if Happy Home Paradise DLC would count as another spin-off. That was essentially Happy Home Designer, the first spin-off (if you don't count the DSi Ware). I'd like another party game actually.
NH was my first AC franchise. I ended up buying a DS (missed that console when it came out) just so I could play New Leaf. I would LOVE to have an island like on New Leaf that we could decorate/bug farm/etc. but maybe with that resource trove you were talking about. Maybe mining for iron, clay, and stone? More exotic fruit like on Ginger Island in Stardew? Also, bring back the spicy GameCube dialogue! Let me be roasted by Resetti!
Have it so that only 100-200 villagers existed in the next game. And all of them are irresistable, cute, and easily obtainable instantly(like a Mystery Island with all villagers and we can only choose 10 of them to live our towns). Including Ione, Ankha, and Shino.
Since New Horizons came out I'm a huge fan. Yes, I played New Leaf, but that wasn't as catching as New Horizons for me. Since I play NH, I came up with entire ideas for a whole new game. One of these is: Choose the size of your island by start. I know, that sounds too much, but if there are people like me, who wants EVERY villager on their island, 10 houses are just too low. If you can choose a size by start, you can choose the number of villagers yourself. For example, a size 3 map is as big as the island in NH and has room for 10 villager houses. A size 5 map has room for 30 or more. I really would want the chance to get more villagers. And as I said, this is just one of many ideas I wrote down for a new game^^
I would personally love for Nintendo to bite the bullet and let us have a full "God mode" where we can basically control time and space. Maybe you like a season and can just turn off time passing altogether. No more constant time traveling to keep your cherry blossom trees. Maybe you can easily place things outside and terraform without painstakingly having to create or break one block at a time for 5 hours straight. Would this break the concept of a relaxing, chill game that Animal Crossing has defined itself as, where the game is always moving at an IRL pace and you're supposed to play in small increments each day until you get bored? Maybe, but it could be an OPTION. Like either you play in "classic" mode or in "fast" mode. I also want descriptions / fun facts back at the museum, having to say yes to Blathers speech in the moment instead of learning about things at the museum at your leasure (you know, like a real museum) was a bad decision.
Totk is botw but very expanded with like double the content of botw for 70 bucks. Maybe the same could occur with the next animal crossing, imagine it being an expansive version of new horizons adding more of what's missing while also adding more innovative features
I hope they give us the option to invite NPCS to live with us permanently or allow us to be apprentices/employees to other NPCS besides Lottie....I want to be Katrina's Apprentice!
You make some good points, some I didn't think about that I now want to see. I'm glad you mentioned the mines idea, at one point I was talking to someone about the idea of adding mines like how they put the campsite in New Leaf in.(I guess by that just a new area) I originally imagined adding it to one of the cliffs as a public works project(like the bridges, stairs & campsite) but just realized it wouldn't work given the terraforming function. Given I imagined Resetti & his brother could be in charge of the mines(so they have more to do than coffee breaks & Resetti being the rescue team or maybe the mines is an add-on to the job) you could place a special manhole with a sign to get to the mining tunnels. Maybe so that Nook miles still have a use(past the fact we turned nmt into a currency to replace bells in trading with players) you can ask Resetti or his brother once a day or something for special mining section tours that allow you to mine certain ore or whatever. Maybe more ways to see past favorite special villagers in general past inviting amiibos for coffee or chance encounters at the bar. It'd be nice if we had more dialogue cause it's getting stale, I think the best example is the dialogue & even friendship system of Wild World.(Let alone the fact that villagers don't respond to letters anymore) A lot of the dialogue in Wild World made me enjoy interacting with the villagers or listening to their conversations. The letters & chats I had in Wild World with Apollo, Static & Kabuki are what make me adore the grumpy villagers. Be nice is we could travel to a city you could maybe help out like with uptown or whatever in New Leaf. When NH introducing the airport & stuff(well starting with Pocket Camp having places to travel to) I kinda hoped we could travel to more places like a city, maybe a spot meant to be the dump(the lost & found box in the island's town hall is kind of this) & maybe a flea market or something that ended up what happened to Harvey's island. We already have loading screens between going places so it's not like it matters if we get more places.(I say as if that was the issue I'm just implying it's not like we're missing anything if we have to have more places that lead to a loading screen) Sorry for my rambling I've been excited for some of these ideas.
I think they should bring back the swimming to a random person's island feature, but make it so you can't steal anything like when you travel to your friends island.
Man, I sorely wish there were mini games. Instead of having like 10 different personalities to 400 characters, why not have some really fleshed out personalities applied to like 150? Idk. I feel like I wasted my money
I don't really agree with adding more personalities, per se, but more subtypes. I want classy sisterlies, smugs who like sports, peppies with another goal beside pop star. You know? And have different interactions with them, too.
Literally the only thing I want from a new Animal Crossing is the ability to choose old soundtracks to listen to. I love New Leafs OST and being able to listen to it within the game again would be my biggest dream come true. The fact that everyone, everywhere, all over the world still makes use of the New Leaf OST shows how amazing and popular it is. Also having the basics mechanics within the game from the start is a must have. New Horizons adding in old mechanics from previous games later on made me (someone who played the game for the first 2 months on release then got bored and dropped it) miss everything they added later that should have been there form the start.
i would really love all the fruit to come back like the durians,mangoes,bananas,etc.I feel like it adds unfamiliarity from the boring same apples and pears and others.At least,that's what i think XD
My main thing is tasks to keep me interested, like outrageous furniture sets that cost so much money but encourages me to keep making bells or crafting skill levels to make rare items or building up a town and big or small... dark brown needs to be the same dark across the bored... or if your crafting or customizing skill is heigh enough you can color match.
just please let me collect the NES/SNES games the same way as K.K. songs and then put them in an NES object and then just send let me play it, there is already an NES/SNES emulator that you can download with NSO, please just let me play the games with that ;-;
People keep saying “better personalities” but the personalities aren’t really the problem, older games have way better dialogue, gamecube villagers would straight up roast you for no reason😭, im not sure what they did to the villagers in new horizons but they have to fix it. They need to also stop making it so that every villager revolves around you and treat you like their god. “What do you think of my shirt” if you say its ugly they just go change it instead of insulting you or ignoring you, they have no soul unlike previous games.
I would love to have birds on the island. I’ve been playing for years. I wanted to get all the goals or I should say Nookmile goals. I almost have them all. Also I have never time traveled or reset my island. I have moved my villagers and stores and museum a lot but that’s it. Someone had posted that if we can walk under bridges, I think that would be awesome. Right now I’m itching to reset but my goals have not been met.
The fact that it's dying out makes me sad since I finally just got my switch. I'm having so much fun playing it just wish more people still we're waiting for a new game so everyone can play together again
I just hope that they don't make the next game too similar to ACNH and stick to the roots of the original more. That way they could please the older fans and maybe they could utilise these newer features bought in to entice newer fans to come back.
A permanent (once unlocked) island or, islands, that are permanently stuck in certain seasons, or have a certain theme, that's not some random chance to find or get, something that you have the option to choose to go to, so you don't have to wait an entire year if you run out of a certain seasonal item for a recipe you need. Like unlocking an archipelago of small islands that mysteriously stuck in certain seasons or have certain themes/gimmicks and their materials completely refresh after a while of waiting. Or just unlocking one at a time dependant on whether or not you fulfill certain criteria or if you've experienced that season before and its passed to the point of completion.

I’ve always thought about the new area to the museum like the Roost. Instead of like a birdwatching exhibit, I want them to add Celeste’s Observatory.

I would love a separate observatory building for her. 2 floors. 1st floor a shop or display area. 2nd floor a constellations dome. Just think how cool it would be to have a beautiful dome shaped building in town or on a hill top looking over the ocean.
OMG yes like imagine being able to document different constellations and plants. Like we would be able to use the telescopes 🔭 to see into the sky and for every new constellation or planet we find we can go to Celeste and she could give us a diy. And the exhibit would be a sky like dome where you can see the sky map.
@@em6644 New Leaf didn't have it, Celeste ran a gift shop upstairs, but what was cool though was that you could rent 4 rooms to decorate any way you wanted, so it gave you extra rooms for like gyroid displays (what I did), or really, anything you wanted.

I also really wish there was a feature where you could make the characters that come to your island actually stay on your island and become villagers. (For example: wouldn’t it be cool if you could make Daisy Mae your villager? Preferably it wouldn’t be easy, as you’d first have to do a little quest for her so that you can convince her that staying on your island is better than staying with her grandma Joan…..)

I would love to see a "sweet or sour" option for the villagers. If you select "sweet" your villagers would be nonconfrontational and would never move out unless you asked them to just like in NH. However, if you select "sour" they'd have a bit more edge to them and randomly leave your island like in the older games. There could be other stuff done with this mechanic as well, like maybe certain villagers wouldn't show up at all depending on which option you chose. Or perhaps you could chose "sweet and sour" and it would just be all out chaos. Some villagers would move out on their own, some you would have to give permission to move out. Some would tell you that you smell like barf and some would call you a fashion mogul. So no matter what your preference was, you'd be set. It could still be kid friendly, but it could also satisfy older players who grew up with the series.
I feel like no one ever talks about the quality improvement compared to new leaf. I hope that the next game is better! 🎉

I would love to have a museum wing where you can choose the exhibits yourself and make for example an egyptian exhibit, a pirate exhibit or a mermaid exhibit (preferably multiple at once). There are so many collections to be completed in the game and I find it kind of sad that most of them just stay in storage because they don't fit the aesthetic of my island.
New Leaf had that, it was on the first floor of the museum it was run by Celeste and the player could buy rooms to put whatever items he or she wanted.

I had an idea I told a few friends about: treehouses.
Crafting materials: a whole tree, iron, wood, and even junk like cans and tires.
This would be a small home that you can pick up, put in your inventory and move around as you wish. The inside contains things like a tin can on a string that you can use to call one of your villagers up to hang out. I call this the Tree.0 update.
This is a bit odd, but I'm really impressed by the attention to detail that went into the sound design of ACNH, so I'd love to see them add the ability for designers to assign specific footstep sound codes to custom designs that are used as floor tiles. In ACNH, all custom paths sound disturbingly quiet compared to in-game paths, so it would be really neat if custom designers could make their street designs sound like you're walking on the stone path, or their wooden plank designs sound like you're walking on the wooden path, if that makes any sense.

The ability to lock furnitures so that you won't accidentally pick them up when gathering material and crafting recipes for like door or gates that the player can lock useful for letting visitors in.
Regarding having everything at launch, I would be plenty happy if the events and seasonal items were the only things locked in updates. I thought it was really special how time travelers couldn't access the events right away in New Horizons to make them special for everyone.

New Horizons is a great base for the next entry. Things like the terra forming, villager dialog, other quality of life features, and more special characters need to be improved. Tortimer and it's multiplayer mini games need to return to give players something to do besides run around your/their islands aimlessly.
Personally, I feel that the island setting is too limiting. New Leaf being a town was perfect. The island itself could be a private resort that you could customize to your hearts content in the next game, alongside a city/town as the main land.
Or to tldr; make New Leaf 2 with the new additions from New Horizons, as well as improving the features from both to make the perfect AC game. It's sad to see Animal Crossing and Splatoon in such sad states. Hopefully, the devs put all their focus into one game next time so both can truly shine.

I want the new game to have a feature where you could actually become friends with *some* of the special NPCs that aren’t villagers and if you become best friends with them you could potentially even get them to stay on your island forever and become your villager. Like…I don’t know, Daisy Mae?
That’s also where the special NPC fetch quests come in. Like for Daisy, she could ask you to go get some turnips from anywhere you can find them (and if you don’t….well bad luck because unless you buy her turnips Daisy will refuse to stay with you and she’ll say that she’ll still continue to live with her grandma just because….)

Agreed, I always enjoyed animal crossing for the Sim aspects. Villagers had jobs for me or had a lot to say, catching things for the museum, and keeping the decoration to my home. I'm not very artistic and ended up not liking anything I'd make in horizons. I look at what people could do and I admit it looked nice but at the same time it never felt like animal crossing. I remember the original and how I found the simplicity of the little town in the woods so charming.
I’d love to see some sort of way to track and display gyroids we’ve collected, like as a new section to the museum or maybe an extension to the roost. Idk, I just think that would be really cool. Obviously it wouldn’t work very well if it was done exactly like that either museum sections because of the noise, but having something similar to the critterpedia and then maybe a wall in the roost where you could display your favourites would be really nice and a nice way to add more interactions with Brewster. Also I never played any of the old games but being able to have a job in the roost sounds amazing so I’d love if they brought that back as well
4:38 i dont really want everything at launch, but i do want to have requirements in order to unlock it. Ive reset my island and was sad when i couldn’t unlock everything again and just got everything laid out for me, i was sad when i found out the wetsuit could be bought straight up and the announcement that the oceans were safe for swimming was gone, i also miss waiting on the home screen for a minute with butterflies in my stomach whilst waiting for animal crossing to update, i miss that feeling and wish it would return, i thought that when i reset that feeling would come back, but it didnt and i wish it would, but the best thing i think we have to that feeling is locking main features away with game requirements like how you unlock the upgraded nooks, there’s so many things i would want to add to acnh, and i cant fit it into a single comment, but this is the main thing, being able to have that same feeling i did waiting for all the updates.
something you neglected to mention was quality of life; every single video game, but especially animal crossing one's going forward, should prioritize quality of life things after most coding is done.
I'd like more complex terraforming opportunities. Like the arches in Happy Home Paradise, caves and underground areas to nearly double the island room we have, creating small islands in the ocean connected by bridges and docks and shallow water we can WALK on! These are obviously extreme but with the overwhelming success of New Horizons I could strangely see it happening.
Like I've said before, I want to be able to change the camera angle outside, like how you can inside homes in New Horizons. It would make the game so much more 3D and life like. In my opinion it would make the game better.
Custom community buildings. My island is filled with community lots, from a grocery store to a post office, an arcade, pub and restaurant etc etc. I would love the ability to just have them be actual buildings like the ones in Happy Home Paradise and have the ability to assign villagers to have jobs there and get to decide how long they work there and on which day. So you could for example have a church building with service on sunday morning hosted by whatever villager you assigned it to!

We should do something more with the wands I think a good mechanic would be using them on rooms. Also, I think the wands should let you pick the same item twice if it’s two different slots!

Yes we need more reasons and interactions with the neighbors of our towns. And more stuff to do when inviting your friends to town.
I pretty much got what I want when the devs added farming to the game. So what more could I ask? Interactive emotions, I would really like to be able to high five or hug my villagers (the player would need to get max friendship level for that to work obviously). More objects to interact with (like climbing on a scale, swimming in the swimming pool, calling villagers with the phone… Being able to write to villagrs that leftthe island would also be neat by the way), being able to swim in the river, maybe being able to choose what kind of climate our island/town could have, jobs included in the main town and that the player himself could do like in New Leaf with Rooster... Being able to place tents and RVs and get inside like in Pocket Camp, more crossovers with Nintendo games (Neko Link for Toon Link for example, or Mario and Luigi Kangaroos). Maybe being able to rotate the camera outside (even if that would take away some of the charm of those games).
But most of all, I'd like for the next game not to take anything we had in NH away. That's my biggest fear. I still want to terraform, I still want to farm, I still want to be able to place items outside... That's the reason why I'm more hoping for a big update in the future like Welcome Amiibo did in New Leaf or the Expansion Pack did in MK8DX.
EDIT: I saw the idea of being able to ride a bike in another comment and I like it so much that I'll add it in (and throwing sk8board while we're at it for the players that prefers more urban towns... It kinda goes along my wish to be able to interact with more items).

One idea to add would be to have more mechanics to town hall / stores in the HHD DLC.
For town hall;
1. You could appoint a villager as an island representative (who would essentially do what your say. E.g. pull weeds, ask for donations from villagers, etc.)
2. You could have city hall meetings where all your villagers discuss the island and other villagers
3. You could preplan outdoor parties, and random villagers would visit (similar to building kits + K.K. on HHD DLC)
For HHD DLC;
1. Cooking minigame at the restaurant (you get a cooking DIY afterwards)
2. Mini Quiz at the School (you get a consumable / clothing item depending on your grade)
3. Doctor Minigame at hospital (something easy like - Villager walks in with headache, and you're given options for treatment)
All of which could give unique items after a certain amount of games are played (similar to DAL traveling)
Other easy ideas:
- More villager personalities
- 10x More flavor text
- Villagers need to be more emotional (higher % chance of getting angry / sad / etc.)
- Have a follow mechanic for villagers
- Have more than 1 conversation with a villager at a time
- 100% customizable house on the outside (similar to advance designs)
- Increase % chance of random event minigames with villagers
and tons more
Honestly I would pay for a another save file. I really just one my main island and one fun/throw away save file that I am not too attached to
I would love for furniture to "interact" more with other furniture. For example, I have a simple bathroom sink and a soap dispenser. My soap dispenser stays on top of the sink, but in the game, there's no way to do that except for a random table next to the sink.
Imagine if you could build shelves and populate them with whatever you want...
Also I need a dialogue rework, peppy villagers are soo annoying and repetitive. I want more diverse responses, I can't stand peppy villagers ALL talking about being popstars

i hope the next animal crossing isn’t just going to be "new horizons 2", but a totally new concept and approach to the series. i think new horizons is good as it is, so i want the next game in the series to not focus on decorating your island, but something else… travelling maybe? building friendships with strange animals from all over the world? living in a city? i don’t know, but i’m excited for whatever is coming!
i feel so weird about ACNH like i feel that it improved a lot and added cool things but at the same time it went back, a lot of the updates were returning things with some new stuff, but theres a lot of new things they could've added or just old things like the console minigames, i think the game is fun and really pretty but it feels lifeless, we have 8 personalities just for the characters to feel like they have no personality. if you dont have a clear vision to decorate your island or a objective then you pretty much have nothing to do, in the other games there were some things you could do, for a game that wants you to log in everyday i feel like it doesn't give you much of a reason to come back to it every day
I really want the next game to be in a more urban setting, or at least have the option for it. Even with customisability in the city area. I've always been one to make urban-like areas in my town, all the way back to Wild World.
And it has honestly killed me that the town is forced to be on an island. Even with the much improved ability to decorate.

They’ve changed villagers’ personality types in the past so I’d imagine a new type or two could be easily added. A jokester personality could be a fun idea or maybe a intellectual or hobby loving personality type. They could share fun facts and tasks to perform in the game or tips on farmer or flower breeding!

maybe like usable nintendo switches, like, instead of the switch screen, maybe they can make the little character use it or something! it would be a lot of work but i mean, it seems cool, i want enemies too, like yeah you kind of have that when you hit a villager with your net, but it would be funny if you could like hit them with your slingshot and you can throw stuff at eachother xd, and i want some more meaner villagers like a Sue E types.
For me, I really want an animal crossing game that's like the movie.
- A house that has a porch (which we can sort of simulate now with accent walls but I want to be able to walk outside and not feel like I'm still in a room)
- Bridges that connect the land (with water still being able to be under it if we want that raised bridge feel
- A cave system where we can get lost and find fossils (you mean to tell me that I can just find dinosaurs in the surface of my island from all time periods??)
- Villagers that do their own things (like actually catch fish and bugs at the very least) and have interesting lives and personalities that are different even within their own personality category (and don't make personalities gender locked and also possibly add a non-binary option for players and villagers)
- Allow repeated visitors to have friendship levels with your villagers and have those villagers talk about their friend who lives in another town

Just mentioning most games take at least 3 months for a new update to release due to the Switch Platform having very strict QA processes that can take multiple months to approve.

I wish there were more buildings you can add on your island like you can have in the DLC but each additional building is fully customizable depending on the island theme you want. I also think it would be really fun to include villagers being employees at these buildings, obviously it doesn't have to be full time 24/7 but it would be nice to have some even work part time!!
I would like there to be new mechanics for relationships with the villagers. It would be cool to know which NPCs got along or didn't and what our relationship statis was with villagers. I feel like there is so much untapped potential with the NPCs, and they could be doing so much more.

I really want interactions with villagers to be way better. More variety of dialogue from personalities, maybe even add some new personalities or bring back the interests system, and give the player more options to respond in the way we choose. Also to use reactions during conversations and have them actually matter.
I honestly don’t think that we’ll get a new AC game any time soon. So far nintendo has never done two main games on the same console and the switch is still selling so well that I don’t think they’re in a hurry to release a next gen console. I imagine that if we get anything (and I’m not even sure we will) we’ll either get an update to new horizons next year or the year after similar to the New Leaf Amiibo update or they’ll release another spin off. Maybe they’ll parcel up Tortimer and his mini games for a party, multiplayer game a bit like that wii game “that should not be named.”

Another feature I thought would be useful is the giant treasure chest mechanic. Whenever your pockets would get full any new items you pick up would automatically get transferred to the chest in your house. That way you wouldn't have to waste time on a return trip to dump everything you don't need.

NH was my first AC franchise. I ended up buying a DS (missed that console when it came out) just so I could play New Leaf. I would LOVE to have an island like on New Leaf that we could decorate/bug farm/etc. but maybe with that resource trove you were talking about. Maybe mining for iron, clay, and stone? More exotic fruit like on Ginger Island in Stardew?
Also, bring back the spicy GameCube dialogue! Let me be roasted by Resetti!
Have it so that only 100-200 villagers existed in the next game. And all of them are irresistable, cute, and easily obtainable instantly(like a Mystery Island with all villagers and we can only choose 10 of them to live our towns). Including Ione, Ankha, and Shino.

Since New Horizons came out I'm a huge fan. Yes, I played New Leaf, but that wasn't as catching as New Horizons for me. Since I play NH, I came up with entire ideas for a whole new game. One of these is: Choose the size of your island by start. I know, that sounds too much, but if there are people like me, who wants EVERY villager on their island, 10 houses are just too low. If you can choose a size by start, you can choose the number of villagers yourself. For example, a size 3 map is as big as the island in NH and has room for 10 villager houses. A size 5 map has room for 30 or more. I really would want the chance to get more villagers. And as I said, this is just one of many ideas I wrote down for a new game^^
I would personally love for Nintendo to bite the bullet and let us have a full "God mode" where we can basically control time and space. Maybe you like a season and can just turn off time passing altogether. No more constant time traveling to keep your cherry blossom trees. Maybe you can easily place things outside and terraform without painstakingly having to create or break one block at a time for 5 hours straight. Would this break the concept of a relaxing, chill game that Animal Crossing has defined itself as, where the game is always moving at an IRL pace and you're supposed to play in small increments each day until you get bored? Maybe, but it could be an OPTION. Like either you play in "classic" mode or in "fast" mode. I also want descriptions / fun facts back at the museum, having to say yes to Blathers speech in the moment instead of learning about things at the museum at your leasure (you know, like a real museum) was a bad decision.
More land, more furniture, better hourly music, more villager emotions (including rudeness, much more fish/bugs/fossils/paintings.
Totk is botw but very expanded with like double the content of botw for 70 bucks. Maybe the same could occur with the next animal crossing, imagine it being an expansive version of new horizons adding more of what's missing while also adding more innovative features

You make some good points, some I didn't think about that I now want to see.
I'm glad you mentioned the mines idea, at one point I was talking to someone about the idea of adding mines like how they put the campsite in New Leaf in.(I guess by that just a new area) I originally imagined adding it to one of the cliffs as a public works project(like the bridges, stairs & campsite) but just realized it wouldn't work given the terraforming function. Given I imagined Resetti & his brother could be in charge of the mines(so they have more to do than coffee breaks & Resetti being the rescue team or maybe the mines is an add-on to the job) you could place a special manhole with a sign to get to the mining tunnels. Maybe so that Nook miles still have a use(past the fact we turned nmt into a currency to replace bells in trading with players) you can ask Resetti or his brother once a day or something for special mining section tours that allow you to mine certain ore or whatever.
Maybe more ways to see past favorite special villagers in general past inviting amiibos for coffee or chance encounters at the bar.
It'd be nice if we had more dialogue cause it's getting stale, I think the best example is the dialogue & even friendship system of Wild World.(Let alone the fact that villagers don't respond to letters anymore) A lot of the dialogue in Wild World made me enjoy interacting with the villagers or listening to their conversations. The letters & chats I had in Wild World with Apollo, Static & Kabuki are what make me adore the grumpy villagers.
Be nice is we could travel to a city you could maybe help out like with uptown or whatever in New Leaf. When NH introducing the airport & stuff(well starting with Pocket Camp having places to travel to) I kinda hoped we could travel to more places like a city, maybe a spot meant to be the dump(the lost & found box in the island's town hall is kind of this) & maybe a flea market or something that ended up what happened to Harvey's island. We already have loading screens between going places so it's not like it matters if we get more places.(I say as if that was the issue I'm just implying it's not like we're missing anything if we have to have more places that lead to a loading screen)

Man, I sorely wish there were mini games. Instead of having like 10 different personalities to 400 characters, why not have some really fleshed out personalities applied to like 150? Idk. I feel like I wasted my money
I don't really agree with adding more personalities, per se, but more subtypes. I want classy sisterlies, smugs who like sports, peppies with another goal beside pop star. You know? And have different interactions with them, too.
Unfortunately, I don't think Nintendo will bring back the NES games because it could hurt their NSO sales.
Literally the only thing I want from a new Animal Crossing is the ability to choose old soundtracks to listen to. I love New Leafs OST and being able to listen to it within the game again would be my biggest dream come true. The fact that everyone, everywhere, all over the world still makes use of the New Leaf OST shows how amazing and popular it is.
Also having the basics mechanics within the game from the start is a must have. New Horizons adding in old mechanics from previous games later on made me (someone who played the game for the first 2 months on release then got bored and dropped it) miss everything they added later that should have been there form the start.
i would really love all the fruit to come back like the durians,mangoes,bananas,etc.I feel like it adds unfamiliarity from the boring same apples and pears and others.At least,that's what i think XD
My main thing is tasks to keep me interested, like outrageous furniture sets that cost so much money but encourages me to keep making bells or crafting skill levels to make rare items or building up a town and big or small... dark brown needs to be the same dark across the bored... or if your crafting or customizing skill is heigh enough you can color match.
just please let me collect the NES/SNES games the same way as K.K. songs and then put them in an NES object and then just send let me play it, there is already an NES/SNES emulator that you can download with NSO, please just let me play the games with that ;-;

People keep saying “better personalities” but the personalities aren’t really the problem, older games have way better dialogue, gamecube villagers would straight up roast you for no reason😭, im not sure what they did to the villagers in new horizons but they have to fix it. They need to also stop making it so that every villager revolves around you and treat you like their god. “What do you think of my shirt” if you say its ugly they just go change it instead of insulting you or ignoring you, they have no soul unlike previous games.
I would love to have birds on the island. I’ve been playing for years. I wanted to get all the goals or I should say Nookmile goals. I almost have them all. Also I have never time traveled or reset my island. I have moved my villagers and stores and museum a lot but that’s it. Someone had posted that if we can walk under bridges, I think that would be awesome. Right now I’m itching to reset but my goals have not been met.
The fact that it's dying out makes me sad since I finally just got my switch. I'm having so much fun playing it just wish more people still we're waiting for a new game so everyone can play together again
i would absolutely love my buildings on your village/island. it feels so baren with only two shops, resident service and the museum! :]
I just hope that they don't make the next game too similar to ACNH and stick to the roots of the original more. That way they could please the older fans and maybe they could utilise these newer features bought in to entice newer fans to come back.
A permanent (once unlocked) island or, islands, that are permanently stuck in certain seasons, or have a certain theme, that's not some random chance to find or get, something that you have the option to choose to go to, so you don't have to wait an entire year if you run out of a certain seasonal item for a recipe you need.
Like unlocking an archipelago of small islands that mysteriously stuck in certain seasons or have certain themes/gimmicks and their materials completely refresh after a while of waiting.
Or just unlocking one at a time dependant on whether or not you fulfill certain criteria or if you've experienced that season before and its passed to the point of completion.
