Could you do a video on your 3 point hitch setup with tow ball? That looks super helpful.

I sure could! This carry-all is my cheapest but most used implement. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! Yep! Lots of respect for how my grandfather's did this before splitters and modern insulation. 🥶

I know that a maul is supposed to not have a super sharp edge, but yours seemed to just bounce off the rounds at times. Could you see if sharpening just a bit might help sink the maul and this split better than bouncing and using brute force (which you seem to have a lot of)! I was just outside tonight enjoying the fruits of my split wood at the campfire.

Great point. I should look into the science of the maul; but it doesn't seem to have lost much "umpf" over the years. This was just particularly stringy, green oak. Glad you're making time for a fall fire!

    Good morning. New subscriber here.
I recently did a video of how I had my splitter modified.
I like your grapple. I have the WORKSAVER 48 inch grapple . I love it! Don’t know how I ever got by without it.

Thanks! It certainly is a handy little tool...

Well Mitch I was very entertained thank you! Glad no one got hurt! Do you find like a 40T splitter is overkill? After trying to split dry spruce by hand I officially give up and am in the market, just wondering how big I need. Cheers, Alex

Overkill? No such thing as too much power! I mostly bought this one because I liked the color; grey. The smaller ones were yellow... haha. It is nice for the big, hard knotty stuff; but likely is overkill for your broken pines and spruce.

Wow I did not expect that! I don't really like splitting vertically, I usually noodle all at the big stuff down with the saw.

I've yet to noodle anything but I've got some much bigger wood where that's likely the best solution.

@@Academy_Farm we’re up in Maine, very close to the Oxford raceway.

Why not flip the log splitter into the vertical position, split in half, then work the smaller chunks in the horizontal? Saves the work of splitting by hand and still dealing with the big wood.
What part of NH are you in? We are out by Sunapee and love this beautiful state.

We sure could. Personally I find the vertical position less ergonomic than running the maul, so it's a last resort for the knotty bits.

    • @robertricciardi2817

I hear you. It does suck trying to get the large rounds in place. I started just rolling them on bark side to wedge just to get them into manageable pieces. I would not routinely put it in that position unless I had a quantity of large chunks to work through.
Anyway love your content and keep it coming. Enjoy watching someone doing the same stuff we do. Just further along in the process. Shows us the light at the end of the tunnel.
