- Hey Scrappers! Josh here with another VEGAS 19 tutorial and in this one I'll be showing you the best ProRes render settings! VEGAS 19 introduced the ability to edit and render ProRes, ProRes RAW, and Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) in this version of VEGAS. This makes VEGAS Pro 19 one of the ONLY video editors that can edit and render all three of these major file types.

Hey Josh another great tutorial, ummm.... all of those selections give a reallly large file..... all of my cameras now are 4k....olympus tg-6 , go pro hero 9, DJI osmo pocket, and my Panasonic 4k video camera.... i want to start rendering now in 4k..... what is the best setting for a 4k render that doesnt give such a humongus file? Any thoughts
Good Morning. In my Vegas 17 there is no Apple ProRes option. Is version 17 not supported? Or do I need to install some plugin? Thanks.

Thanks for the great video. How flexible is the frame size in ProRes? In past versions of Vegas I have found the render frame to be limited to a max of nnnn x 2160. I work in ProRes scanning film which is 4096x3112 up to 6464x4852. In past versions I can load the ProRes files into Vegas....but I could never get them back out!
So with VEGAS' built in ProRes codec, you can only render in a maximum resolution of 5120x2160. But if you use Voukoder's ProRes codec, I was just able to test it and I rendered an 8k UHD (7680 × 4320) video with it in ProRes. I will be releasing a Voukoder video today that you can change the codec around to ProRes and test for yourself.

Why I cannot export multichannel Prores as MXF format?
Why are the files so huge if you send these to a client they have a hard time downloading I have a 3 minute video and it’s 3gb

ProRes was introduced in Vegas 18 but in an alpha form. They've officially introduced ProRes, pro-res raw, and black magic raw, officially licensed inside Vegas 19. They are in beta form so they still may need a few tweaks in feature updates but still perform very well. I personally record in pro-res raw and Vegas handles it great
The difference with ProRes is that they are less compressed formats than AVC. So if you plan to do more editing on a file try ProRes422 or higher (if the source footage is 10-bit 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 for example). I wouldn't use X-AVC S for this purpose- it's mainly a capture format.
My brain is fried, I have been trying to search on how to view my ProRes RAW files on windows PC. I have tried installing the Apple ProRes RAW codec and also installed programs which apparently reads ProRes RAW files. Nothing shows except audio. I can only view and edit the audio files from it. I have Vegas Pro 19 and I can't even view/preview the files on the software. I'm very stressed out and I can't find any help anywhere on the internet nor that I know anyone in real life to help me out with this... Please help

My understanding is that you can input RAW to edit and output what you want. Why would you want to Render out as RAW?
@@Reyfox1 So, if I take GoPro x265 4k60, there is no way you can do anything with it in Vegas or other like Resolve and so on. This means I take 5 such clips, slice them into 25 segments I need and export them in raw. Currently I do that in Vegas 16 and with k-lite coces I export them in Lagarth - which works better for me colorwise than prores. So, I just ask if there is a better format that I can render in Vegas directly, not via k-lite or other.
@@utube521 Render out as Apple ProRes as this video shows. You can't turn x265 into raw data- it is already compressed (and even if you could that's meaningless- it's already got ISO, WB, etc. baked into it). There is no color difference with ProRes, the benefit is that it's less compressed than AVC or HEVC so you won't have further degradation
@@rsmith02 Yes. That's why my first step is to slice all my videos and generate segments in Lagarith with VirtualDub2 and only then I can edit them in Vegas, so the playback is smooth. i could use ProRes, but I find that colors in Lagarith are better and full and that Vegas likes lagarith more than prores. Also ProRes for some reason always gives me limited colors, but Lagarith gives me always full. ? Thank you for the advice anyway.
@@utube521 There isn't a difference in color if you do the conversion correctly. Look at the scopes. I use MagicYUV, ProRes or uncompressed interchangeably. (I assume by limited vs full you are not talking about video range 16-235 vs 0-255 or 10-bit equivalent).
