But the Remco of 2024 is considerably stronger now and his recovery has so much improved. He is likely to take medals in both races.

This is really quite technical for an Olympic and even a world TT. The turns aren't difficult, but they're enough to add over 30seconds of losses for some of the riders
Lots of turns to accelerate big bodies. This really isn't bad for him. Of course, Ganna is outstanding on courses like this but that's more related to him being able to stay in the aerobars in places that others can't.

My money is on Remco. He seems to feel fresh and to be focusing on TT for these games. Yesterday he did 3 laps of the circuit (most only did 2) and practiced the punchy accelerations needed coming out of tight bends (he has been amongst the fastest on these false flat, uphill segments). The course suits him really well with some long straits and some tight bends in between.
Do riders train to specialize ITT? What is the special training they do to win world class ITT. Is it speed or endurance or both? Does rider height and weigh play a role to be a good time trailist. If I define ITT, the fastest sprinter from 30-40km distance riding solo, would it sort of describe it?
@allisonking785 really its about having your TT bike FTP as close to your road bike FTP as possible and having a very good position. Speed/endurance is all relative to the course. Cavendish was a solid time trialist on shorter courses because he had a decent position but also very good power under 20min. This was a fairly short TT by Olympic standards but maybe too short for someone like Pogi had he decided to race.
Why is Spain taking only Oier Lazkano to the Olympics TT??? I would've taken Juan Ayuso who did beat Ganna in that Tierrno-Adriatico TT. He's doing the Road Race, so why not the TT as well? Are they doing it because of burnout from Ayuso? It doesn't make sense to me. Predictions: Ganna 1st. A relatively shorter course and lack of even the gradual gradients should favor him. Remco 2nd. Looking at the results where he beat Ganna it was in those courses that seem "flat" but have 3% sections. This course is mega flat in comparison. Tarling 3rd. The person most in danger of losing their medal spot to other riders. He is still good but others are closer to him than he is to Remco and Ganna. Ayuso did have covid during the Tour de France, could be that you have missed that ? And Lazkano is a perfect replacement. And only one rider can start for Spain in the ITT, therefore Lazkano is the only rider. I would not be surprised if Ayuso does not start at all at the Olympics tbh...

Portugal has a quarter of Spain's population!

It might be hard for Remco to win- for the reason you provided, but I think he will have a tough time with the bigger engines on such a flat stage.

A pro time trial needs to take an hour (flat 50k, or hilly 40k+). Anything less is amateur status.
