@@PHILIPJOHNSON-cw5mt I agree, and would love that idea too, but sadly Frida and Agnetha's 1st 80s albums have already had their 40th come and gone with nothing, so there's no hope for a "Shine" one, this is likely cos the 2 women were just not respected for what they did OUTSIDE ABBA, you can tell just by the fake chart placings. There will sadly be not enough pressure from enough people to make any outtakes possible, I mean, the bloody producer Steve Lilywhite-he couldn't even take it upon himself to wrestle his then-wife Kirsty MacColl's locked away 1983 album away from @holes Polydor-it had to be 40yrs old before it finally saw official release but hidden in a massive box-set compilation covering most of her career. Even being dead since 2000 didn't help things along in the slightest, nor did her grown-up kids. Sounds depressing, but it's the music biz for you when it regards people that matter as opposed to all the crap out there.
Frida's work from this period definitely deserve more recognition. I don't understand why unreleased material stays locked in the archives, it's such a shame. It makes people so happy to hear these songs, so Universal....start polishing and releasing in an official release please!
But Universal are dreadful for this-they've a whole Kim Wilde album recorded in 1998 they refuse to release, even when she tried to put it out with her box set compilation in 2021, and they've got more demos and stuff of hers too. London Records did this to Siobhan Fahey in 1996. Record labels are c*nts. They see no value in releasing lost/hidden songs, and don't forget, neither ABBA Queen was ever fully respected in the UK away from ABBA, hell even the fans weren't prepared to accept them without the ABBA logo. Making people with brains and taste happy is NOT what record companies are about-it's how to screw money out of us in the most repetitive, lazy and obnoxious way.
@@kyachdistent1301 I still believe in the power of pop and the magic of ABBA, someday, somehow. Look at all the things that happened over the past years. And maybe a smalller record company like Cherry Pop who released a lot of the Kim Wilde catalogue can mean something in this matter.

I never thought I could ever have the chance to get it and today, thanks to you I got 2 tracks for the price of one!!! I love them!! And that's what I love the Shine era: Frida doing things differently, pushing the boundaries of her own talent and going far beyond!!! Sadly most people couldn't get her art back in 1984. Frida proved to be ahead of her time and that album is a living testimony of all and more that she could do with her inmense talent... Sadly in 1984, the vast majority of so-called fans cared nothing for Frida pushing her own talent beyond the boundaries, as if she and Agnetha didn't come under the ABBA heading, then they weren't going to go for it. People are pathetically predictable in the worst ways, nothing ever changes. Universal also sees no value in releasing either girl's stuff again, well they wouldn't, would they, to them it's not ABBA, which was the fan consensus back in the 80s! I'd also want that 'As Long As I Have You' duet with Ratata from 1987 (there's an English version too out), yet it's not anywhere physical. That should be on there too. If they were released again, I fear Universal would add NOTHING of value to the already out remastered 2005 edition, maybe a DVD of the album's being made or videos, but it's unreleased/unavailable songs we want 1st! I feel what we really need, too, is a Frida compilation collecting all her solo singles, with space for unreleased things.

I'll fight for the Shine album as long as I live. It's a super creative effort and her vocals are PHENOMENAL on it. Why so many ABBA fans write it off, I'll never understand!
lol!Well my perception is that SGO is more "American sounding".'Shine" is more expirimental,'80s kinda 'European-underground flavoured' if i can fit words at some points.('Twist in the Dark -kinda Siousxie and the Bansees vibed/That's tough-the sound in the main guitar riff seems Echo and The Bunnymen scented / not to mention the "The Face')which in general I find more interesting.

It's just the same as when Frida and Agnetha put themselves out for an ABBA song that B&B consign to oblivion hell, like 'Just Like That' really, and apparently there are others too.
Frida voice sounds playful, optimistic. I like the ballad "When Love Turns To Lies" the best. Maybe the sound quality is a bit better. But these are much appreciated and will be enjoyed for years to come. Thanks for this special report, from a fan, a friend and a very special UA-cam channel. :)

It seems that singer songwriter Chris Rea offered "When Love Turns to Lies" to Frida for the "Shine" album. And, with it not appearing on "Shine", Chris Rea decided to record it himself. It's on his beautiful "Shamrock Diaries" album from 1986. I listened to that album for the whole of that summer.
I remember when buying this and the next few Chris Rea albums... having saved up, would eagerly look at the artwork and read the lyrics on the bus home wondering what the tracks would sound like. Shamrock Diaries showcases Chris' ability to capture a feeling or a story in his lyrics, complimented by a musical backdrop that fitted perfectly.. its a great album..
I've written it a number of times now: I am so sad that Frida stopped recording after 'Shine', as she was on a really creative and experimental artistic path that could have taken her anywhere. It seems she wanted to try everything, and vocally she had never been better: Her range was enormous, her versatility grand, and her capacity to express herself almost unlimiteed. Though 'Something's Going On' was a much greater success at the time, I have grown increasingly fond of 'Shine' the last couple of years. Frida sang with so much more confidence and courage on 'Shine'. I think this is also reflected in the two 'new' songs, which I have listened to over and over, since they leaked this week. And thank God for that, If there's more somewhere: Let it come
I have a notion that in WLTTL it's Kristy Maccoll's voice in the backing vocals.She did a fine job on the version of 'Slowly".She kinda impersonated the Agnetha-Abba way and combined to S.Lillywhites skills the result was convincing,smooth and so beautiful.

I love ‘When Love Turns To Lies’ Disappointed it was left off Shine in favour of say ‘Comfort Me’ (my own personal opinion) Enjoyed ‘Can’t Be Serious’ too, but the same favourite lines referenced by you in ‘When Love Turns To Lies’ got me, I can’t stop playing it. I also love ‘That’s Tough’ one of my personal favourites. "When love turns to lies" gave me goosebumps...Sounds gorgeous and personal...And a thought crossed my mind: what seems to be a tragedy at the beginning turns out to be a lucky event. I have been waiting for years imagining how Frida would sing "When Love to Lies".. it is one of my favourite Chris Rea songs with such a powerful lyric (in the same way that Agnetha's Sometimes when I am dreaming is one of my favourite Mike Batt songs)... She has definitely given it an "Abba" touch - in parts her interpretation has elements of "Cassandra" in it - very different from how I imagined it would be.. I still play Shine regularly - there are so many wonderful songs, Steve Lillywhites production is superb, and Kirsty McColls backing vocalsprovided a wonderful contrast to Frida .. I agree with Frida - it was ahead of it's time! Sadly I missed hearing "Can't be Serious" before it was blocked but I am sure someone else will publish again whilst we wait in hope of an official re-release of Shine... hopefully with the additional tracks!

WLTTL Chris Rea's 'male aspect" also sounds very beautiful..His version has a relaxing "summery" mourning mood.Frida's ''demo' breaths out more 'female agony'.Both are differently produced/isntrumentated.
I always wish Frida recorded more out and out rockers like “there’s something going on” because I believed in the MTV era she should’ve been much bigger. That was a huge hit and she should’ve done more uptempo stuff.
I definitely prefer "When Love Turns To Lies" over "Can't Be Serious", which probably has more to do with my musical tastes. You can tell that these songs are not quite finished, both vocally and from a production point. It's still a thrill to hear them. It's always a treat to hear "new" music from Frida and/or ABBA.
When Love Turns to Lies is the one I like most when first hearing them, still great to have both new songs, neither of which I knew about being recorded.

"Shine" is a wonderful album with a variety of styles really showing off Frida's voice. My favourite is "Heart of the Country". I think the lack of success of the album is solely due to Frida's having been a member of ABBA. At the time ABBA was considered 'very uncool' and it wouldn't have mattered what was released. It would not have succeeded.

I still think that Frida underestimated herself as a song-writer. Maybe she didn't feel confident enought since she was only a beginner at writing her own songs as well as asserting herself as an independent solo-artist. Maybe this factor also somewhat discouraged her for further creations, and after her fail with "Shine" she had given up on it. Speking of the two leaked songs, I must admit I was surprised, though secretely had been dreaming of hearing those someday, but wasn't sure when exactly it might happen and would it ever. But still it has happened and my gladness is boundless. Hopefully, other songs like "I Don't Wanna Be Alone" will someday be leaked in a better quality.
While I find the quality of the actual music on Shine rather uneven, and these two outtakes don't impress me much, what I love about Shine songs is Frida's incredible vocals. She was never as loose and as expansive vocally ever in ABBA as she is on Shine. ABBA was a showcase of B&B's songs and both women in ABBA had to adjust themselves to those songs and to B&B's musical vision both vocally and expression-wise. Shine, on the contrary, to me is first and foremost a showcase of Frida's technical brilliance as a vocalist and of her powerhouse voice. Her vocal mastery is underrated, unfortunately, perhaps due to a limited solo output post-ABBA and a lack of live performances, but to me Shine (along with her live performances during ABBA era) ultimately shows what a truly great singer she is. I am actually convinced that Frida did not realize her full potential as a vocalist and it saddens me a bit.

We're so lucky to have BB and get informed of these great things so quickly. You are a gem!!! However, personally I dont find these two recordings much of a gem, and can totally understand why they were left off the Shine album. They had to choose, and there was a limited number of songs possible on a vinyl. Can't Be Serious I would maybe have liked released on a B-side. Having said that, it's wonderful to be transported back to 1984 with Frida's younger voice and fighting spirit and I am vwry grateful to be able to listen to these secret tracks. Thanks again BB
The additional songs have long been known about and there were rumours that someone had recordings of them, apparently a ABBA fan.. Apart from these two and 'I'm One Of God's Children' there is supposedly 'My Dearest Friend' but it's not sure how complete they are. Apparently, this fan has held them for years and wouldn't upload them, probably because of copyright issues. A small number of copies then were made available to buy on the understanding that buyers would not upload them either. But stuff like this should not be hidden away. Even rough demo's are of interest to many fans.
The songs were leaked only two years ago by someone in Ralf's circle (the German guy who manufactured the two bootleg singles in February 2023). But we all knew long before that of the existence of the songs because they were mentioned in a press release message from Polar in 1984, when recordings for "Shine" were in full progress.
I did such a double take reading the title of this video!! The story behind those 40 pressings being sold to fans is not how I expected these out takes to surface after all these years! I wonder if anyone will come forward with an explanation, I am so curious. Shine has always stood out to me for its ambition, and it definitely deserves a reissue with these outtakes being explored but I am so happy to even know that there is a chance that out takes could still come out after all this time!

Several times some people have realized that Frida is originally reddish but not the dying Red hair she many times used in multiple 'nuances'. Of course. Even they say Frida once said that in her own words. But if anyone looks her early baby and girlish photographs , the blonde idea jumps. Can you do a special video about this intriguing fact , intriguing at least for me ?Tack så mycket
So you even don't believe Frida herself that she knows what hair colour she had? You can hear herself saying it in a video at UA-cam, but somebody else has to tell you which video it was because unfortunately I forgot it though I have seen it already. The child photos of her are in black and white, so no one can really say what hair colour it is at these photos. But Frida has seen her own hair in colour, so I think she would know what colour it was. By the way red hair has also a lot of nuances. There is red hair that is very light and so it appears blonde in black and white photos, even more with flashlight. But with time it gets darker. Of course her hair was not as reddish as in her ABBA times when she was a child but I think it was some kind of 'red-blonde'.
Hello. I like the quality of your videos and the way you convey your appreciations. But honestly I didn't find anything remarkable in this pair of songs. I feel them structurally very basic (and the audio quality makes them sound like songs from the 50s/60s). I can understand that you find the songs "wonderful" due to the great fanaticism that accompanies them, but from a more neutral place, they seem to me like an unfinished test, or lacking the necessary quality to be included in the album of someone renowned, unless the production of the album on which they were to be included has not reached high levels of quality either (perhaps due to this supposed "experimentation").
Chris Rea has stated that he wrote "Love turns to lies" intentionally for Frida. When Frida did not record the song, he did it himself, in 1985 for his album "Shamrock diaries".
Shine sessions are not included here. Namely, "I'm One Of God's Children", "Love Turns To Lies", "Can't Be Serious", "My Dearest Friend" and "I Don't Wanna Be Alone". Fans that have been lucky enough to hear these tracks say they are simply brilliant and definitely up to scratch with the standard of the rest of the album.
Isn't the "What's that you say..." the actual chorus of the song? A real pity both of these songs have disappeared now, and unlikely to stay here beyond a week if that, but it's nothing we didn't expect, let's be honest.
I like the Shine album, not Frida’s best work, but very listenable nonetheless. I particularly like the title track along with One Little Lie and Twist in the Dark. I can see why these two were left off though. Chris Rea does When Love Turns to Lies so much better, but even then, it’s one of the fillers on his Shamrock Diaries album in my opinion. The other track, Can’t Be Serious I find jarring and unpleasant to listen to, clearly an experiment that was wisely taken no further.
I love both tracks, but Can't Be Serious is my favourite. I can't get it out of my head. The arrangement/production/instrumentation are superb. I think it links together Twist In The Dark, That's Tough and even Chemistry Tonight. I think it would have brought a little extra edge to the album. When Love Turns To Lies is gorgeous, and I really love the Twin Peaks-style guitar solo. Lyrically, it reflects the theme of Comfort Me. There were probably too many ballads for the album, but this would have made a good Double A-side with a third or fourth single. Remko's fascinating book mentions a demo written by Frida in 1983 called Can't Be Serious. I wonder if this is a coincidence of two different songs with the same name? If anyone can reach him, maybe he could clarify.
Btw imo There are a couple of songs from the solo stuff of both Frida's /Agnetha's releases that could have easily been Abba songs.Such as 'Comfort Me"/"Slowly" the Steve Lilywhite produced version ( both easily on The Visitors" tracklist. 'The Last Time"/"Dance your pain away"(VV tracklist)"I was a Flower" 'The Album" maybe.IWAF could have also fit fine in Frida's voice.
While I appreciate Frida taking risks musically on both of her English solo albums, I never found "Shine" all that great. I tried my best to like it when it came out as a teenager, but it never really took with me. I had expected to like this record more given that Frida was working with Steve Lillywhite, a producer I had admired for his work with U2, Big Country, Simple Minds and other British early 80s rock acts. I also am a big fan of the late, great Kirsty MacColl (then Lillywhite's wife, though they later divorced before her untimely death), and loved that she both wrote songs for the album and collaborated with Frida on "That's Tough." Ultimately, i think the songwriting was what let the album down - the single "Shine" was more production than an actual song, and the attempts at art-rock with songs like "Twist in the Dark" were undermined by some really terrible lyrics ("Concorde - seems like a groundhog"...really?). So, I wasn't particularly surpirised not to find the two new songs top-flight efforts either. Still, they're fun to listen to nearly 40 years later, so I don't want to gripe too much. Just my opinion, glad that BB and others are able to enjoy them more than I!
I tend to agree with you. In late 1984 when I first heard the "Shine" album I thought it was great. I was 17 at the time and the experimental and edgy soundscape really resonated with me then. Now, 40 years later, while I absolutely appreciate Frida's vocal performances on this album, I tend to find that some of songs have not held up as well, especially when compared to Frida's other solo recordings such as "Ensam", "Djupa Andetag" or even "Somethings Going On". Shine's production is very much 'stuck' in the mid-80s, and feels somewhat dated. This is in no way meant as an attack on Frida's efforts on "Shine". She clearly wanted a different sound and in that context, "Shine" is very successful. All that being said, I would buy a 'deluxe' version of "Shine" in a heartbeat if it included all of the previously unreleased tracks recorded in 1984.
Personally, I didn't really like the songs. I don't think they really fit with the other songs on the album, maybe that's why they were not included on the finished LP. That said, I wouldn't replace any of the 10 original songs with these two. But they could be fine additions as bonus tracks if the album is re-released in the future. Btw, now I understand why these leaks have some vinyl noise, they were taken from unnoficial vinyl records. I'd love hearing the original file, with no noise at all.
Sorry for being Mr. negativitety here, but Shine was not good in my opinion, nor was her work with Phil Collins. Neither project was the right fit for Frida's talent and style. Not a criticism of Frida per se. I just think the songs were wrong. And the whole "80s look" was such a disappointment when compared against the ABBA period. There was something magical about 70s ABBA that was lost. I feel that Agnetha's post ABBA solo career was much better, although I do like Frida's 1996 Swedish album, and "Fire and Ice" live was damn good example of her rock talent.
I completely agree - I actually like Agentha a lot more in her solo career and Frida in ABBA. Agnetha’s solo albums are fantastic although I do like “Shine” a lot more than “SGO” - that album is horrible.
"Can't be serious" sounds quite "experimental" and reminds me in style of some tracks by Karin and Anders Glenmark from Gemini. "When Love Turns To Lies" is too boring and without expression for me.
Talk style and approach all you want - in the end it's all about composition, and in Shine's case, Side One for the most part was sadly lacking. To come down from the melodic heights of ABBA to songs with frustratingly poor chord progressions is a devolution. The song "Shine" is the worst example. What a let-down.
I really think these 2 tracks and the entire project was an absolute disaster. So much so she wasn’t able to establish a record deal thereafter . A sad post Abba legacy , she could of done so much more
Ralf (his real name) manufactured and offered these songs on various auction sites for insane prices. When you are willing to rip off fellow fans like that, and you let buyers sign a document to not share but keep the tracks to themselves, you clearly don't understand the essence of beung an ABBA fan. Share the music without making absurd profits! I'm glad the songs finally got out in the open. Ralf needs to find himself another cash cow.

Sadly in 1984, the vast majority of so-called fans cared nothing for Frida pushing her own talent beyond the boundaries, as if she and Agnetha didn't come under the ABBA heading, then they weren't going to go for it. People are pathetically predictable in the worst ways, nothing ever changes. Universal also sees no value in releasing either girl's stuff again, well they wouldn't, would they, to them it's not ABBA, which was the fan consensus back in the 80s! I'd also want that 'As Long As I Have You' duet with Ratata from 1987 (there's an English version too out), yet it's not anywhere physical. That should be on there too. If they were released again, I fear Universal would add NOTHING of value to the already out remastered 2005 edition, maybe a DVD of the album's being made or videos, but it's unreleased/unavailable songs we want 1st!
I feel what we really need, too, is a Frida compilation collecting all her solo singles, with space for unreleased things.

I'll fight for the Shine album as long as I live. It's a super creative effort and her vocals are PHENOMENAL on it. Why so many ABBA fans write it off, I'll never understand!

lol!Well my perception is that SGO is more "American sounding".'Shine" is more expirimental,'80s kinda 'European-underground flavoured' if i can fit words at some points.('Twist in the Dark -kinda Siousxie and the Bansees vibed/That's tough-the sound in the main guitar riff seems Echo and The Bunnymen scented / not to mention the "The Face')which in general I find more interesting.

It's just the same as when Frida and Agnetha put themselves out for an ABBA song that B&B consign to oblivion hell, like 'Just Like That' really, and apparently there are others too.

It seems that singer songwriter Chris Rea offered "When Love Turns to Lies" to Frida for the "Shine" album. And, with it not appearing on "Shine", Chris Rea decided to record it himself. It's on his beautiful "Shamrock Diaries" album from 1986. I listened to that album for the whole of that summer.
I remember when buying this and the next few Chris Rea albums... having saved up, would eagerly look at the artwork and read the lyrics on the bus home wondering what the tracks would sound like. Shamrock Diaries showcases Chris' ability to capture a feeling or a story in his lyrics, complimented by a musical backdrop that fitted perfectly.. its a great album..

I've written it a number of times now: I am so sad that Frida stopped recording after 'Shine', as she was on a really creative and experimental artistic path that could have taken her anywhere. It seems she wanted to try everything, and vocally she had never been better: Her range was enormous, her versatility grand, and her capacity to express herself almost unlimiteed. Though 'Something's Going On' was a much greater success at the time, I have grown increasingly fond of 'Shine' the last couple of years. Frida sang with so much more confidence and courage on 'Shine'. I think this is also reflected in the two 'new' songs, which I have listened to over and over, since they leaked this week. And thank God for that, If there's more somewhere: Let it come
I have a notion that in WLTTL it's Kristy Maccoll's voice in the backing vocals.She did a fine job on the version of 'Slowly".She kinda impersonated the Agnetha-Abba way and combined to S.Lillywhites skills the result was convincing,smooth and so beautiful.

I love ‘When Love Turns To Lies’ Disappointed it was left off Shine in favour of say ‘Comfort Me’ (my own personal opinion) Enjoyed ‘Can’t Be Serious’ too, but the same favourite lines referenced by you in ‘When Love Turns To Lies’ got me, I can’t stop playing it. I also love ‘That’s Tough’ one of my personal favourites. After hearing these songs on UA-cam the other day I had so many questions, thank you BB for the information… To think what we still have out there in the way of demos, different mixes, edits etc, please can we have more.. I have been waiting for years imagining how Frida would sing "When Love to Lies".. it is one of my favourite Chris Rea songs with such a powerful lyric (in the same way that Agnetha's Sometimes when I am dreaming is one of my favourite Mike Batt songs)... She has definitely given it an "Abba" touch - in parts her interpretation has elements of "Cassandra" in it - very different from how I imagined it would be.. I still play Shine regularly - there are so many wonderful songs, Steve Lillywhites production is superb, and Kirsty McColls backing vocalsprovided a wonderful contrast to Frida .. I agree with Frida - it was ahead of it's time! Sadly I missed hearing "Can't be Serious" before it was blocked but I am sure someone else will publish again whilst we wait in hope of an official re-release of Shine... hopefully with the additional tracks!

I always wish Frida recorded more out and out rockers like “there’s something going on” because I believed in the MTV era she should’ve been much bigger. That was a huge hit and she should’ve done more uptempo stuff.

I definitely prefer "When Love Turns To Lies" over "Can't Be Serious", which probably has more to do with my musical tastes. You can tell that these songs are not quite finished, both vocally and from a production point. It's still a thrill to hear them. It's always a treat to hear "new" music from Frida and/or ABBA.

Not true. It would have been very unprofessional of Frida. The songs would have surfaced long ago. These two tracks were leaked only two years ago.

"Shine" is a wonderful album with a variety of styles really showing off Frida's voice. My favourite is "Heart of the Country". I think the lack of success of the album is solely due to Frida's having been a member of ABBA. At the time ABBA was considered 'very uncool' and it wouldn't have mattered what was released. It would not have succeeded.

I still think that Frida underestimated herself as a song-writer. Maybe she didn't feel confident enought since she was only a beginner at writing her own songs as well as asserting herself as an independent solo-artist. Maybe this factor also somewhat discouraged her for further creations, and after her fail with "Shine" she had given up on it.
Speking of the two leaked songs, I must admit I was surprised, though secretely had been dreaming of hearing those someday, but wasn't sure when exactly it might happen and would it ever. But still it has happened and my gladness is boundless. Hopefully, other songs like "I Don't Wanna Be Alone" will someday be leaked in a better quality.
While I find the quality of the actual music on Shine rather uneven, and these two outtakes don't impress me much, what I love about Shine songs is Frida's incredible vocals. She was never as loose and as expansive vocally ever in ABBA as she is on Shine. ABBA was a showcase of B&B's songs and both women in ABBA had to adjust themselves to those songs and to B&B's musical vision both vocally and expression-wise.
Shine, on the contrary, to me is first and foremost a showcase of Frida's technical brilliance as a vocalist and of her powerhouse voice.
Her vocal mastery is underrated, unfortunately, perhaps due to a limited solo output post-ABBA and a lack of live performances, but to me Shine (along with her live performances during ABBA era) ultimately shows what a truly great singer she is. I am actually convinced that Frida did not realize her full potential as a vocalist and it saddens me a bit.

We're so lucky to have BB and get informed of these great things so quickly. You are a gem!!! However, personally I dont find these two recordings much of a gem, and can totally understand why they were left off the Shine album. They had to choose, and there was a limited number of songs possible on a vinyl. Can't Be Serious I would maybe have liked released on a B-side. Having said that, it's wonderful to be transported back to 1984 with Frida's younger voice and fighting spirit and I am vwry grateful to be able to listen to these secret tracks. Thanks again BB
The additional songs have long been known about and there were rumours that someone had recordings of them, apparently a ABBA fan.. Apart from these two and 'I'm One Of God's Children' there is supposedly 'My Dearest Friend' but it's not sure how complete they are. Apparently, this fan has held them for years and wouldn't upload them, probably because of copyright issues. A small number of copies then were made available to buy on the understanding that buyers would not upload them either. But stuff like this should not be hidden away. Even rough demo's are of interest to many fans.
The songs were leaked only two years ago by someone in Ralf's circle (the German guy who manufactured the two bootleg singles in February 2023).
But we all knew long before that of the existence of the songs because they were mentioned in a press release message from Polar in 1984, when recordings for "Shine" were in full progress.

I did such a double take reading the title of this video!! The story behind those 40 pressings being sold to fans is not how I expected these out takes to surface after all these years! I wonder if anyone will come forward with an explanation, I am so curious. Shine has always stood out to me for its ambition, and it definitely deserves a reissue with these outtakes being explored but I am so happy to even know that there is a chance that out takes could still come out after all this time!

Several times some people have realized that Frida is originally reddish but not the dying Red hair she many times used in multiple 'nuances'. Of course. Even they say Frida once said that in her own words. But if anyone looks her early baby and girlish photographs , the blonde idea jumps.

So you even don't believe Frida herself that she knows what hair colour she had? You can hear herself saying it in a video at UA-cam, but somebody else has to tell you which video it was because unfortunately I forgot it though I have seen it already. The child photos of her are in black and white, so no one can really say what hair colour it is at these photos. But Frida has seen her own hair in colour, so I think she would know what colour it was. By the way red hair has also a lot of nuances. There is red hair that is very light and so it appears blonde in black and white photos, even more with flashlight. But with time it gets darker. Of course her hair was not as reddish as in her ABBA times when she was a child but I think it was some kind of 'red-blonde'.

I like the quality of your videos and the way you convey your appreciations. But honestly I didn't find anything remarkable in this pair of songs. I feel them structurally very basic (and the audio quality makes them sound like songs from the 50s/60s).
I can understand that you find the songs "wonderful" due to the great fanaticism that accompanies them, but from a more neutral place, they seem to me like an unfinished test, or lacking the necessary quality to be included in the album of someone renowned, unless the production of the album on which they were to be included has not reached high levels of quality either (perhaps due to this supposed "experimentation").
Chris Rea has stated that he wrote "Love turns to lies" intentionally for Frida.
When Frida did not record the song, he did it himself, in 1985 for his album "Shamrock diaries".

I like the Shine album, not Frida’s best work, but very listenable nonetheless. I particularly like the title track along with One Little Lie and Twist in the Dark. I can see why these two were left off though. Chris Rea does When Love Turns to Lies so much better, but even then, it’s one of the fillers on his Shamrock Diaries album in my opinion. The other track, Can’t Be Serious I find jarring and unpleasant to listen to, clearly an experiment that was wisely taken no further.
I love both tracks, but Can't Be Serious is my favourite. I can't get it out of my head. The arrangement/production/instrumentation are superb. I think it links together Twist In The Dark, That's Tough and even Chemistry Tonight. I think it would have brought a little extra edge to the album. When Love Turns To Lies is gorgeous, and I really love the Twin Peaks-style guitar solo. Lyrically, it reflects the theme of Comfort Me. There were probably too many ballads for the album, but this would have made a good Double A-side with a third or fourth single.
Remko's fascinating book mentions a demo written by Frida in 1983 called Can't Be Serious. I wonder if this is a coincidence of two different songs with the same name? If anyone can reach him, maybe he could clarify.

Btw imo There are a couple of songs from the solo stuff of both Frida's /Agnetha's releases that could have easily been Abba songs.Such as 'Comfort Me"/"Slowly" the Steve Lilywhite produced version ( both easily on The Visitors" tracklist. 'The Last Time"/"Dance your pain away"(VV tracklist)"I was a Flower" 'The Album" maybe.IWAF could have also fit fine in Frida's voice.

While I appreciate Frida taking risks musically on both of her English solo albums, I never found "Shine" all that great. I tried my best to like it when it came out as a teenager, but it never really took with me. I had expected to like this record more given that Frida was working with Steve Lillywhite, a producer I had admired for his work with U2, Big Country, Simple Minds and other British early 80s rock acts. I also am a big fan of the late, great Kirsty MacColl (then Lillywhite's wife, though they later divorced before her untimely death), and loved that she both wrote songs for the album and collaborated with Frida on "That's Tough." Ultimately, i think the songwriting was what let the album down - the single "Shine" was more production than an actual song, and the attempts at art-rock with songs like "Twist in the Dark" were undermined by some really terrible lyrics ("Concorde - seems like a groundhog"...really?). So, I wasn't particularly surpirised not to find the two new songs top-flight efforts either. Still, they're fun to listen to nearly 40 years later, so I don't want to gripe too much. Just my opinion, glad that BB and others are able to enjoy them more than I!
I tend to agree with you. In late 1984 when I first heard the "Shine" album I thought it was great. I was 17 at the time and the experimental and edgy soundscape really resonated with me then. Now, 40 years later, while I absolutely appreciate Frida's vocal performances on this album, I tend to find that some of songs have not held up as well, especially when compared to Frida's other solo recordings such as "Ensam", "Djupa Andetag" or even "Somethings Going On". Shine's production is very much 'stuck' in the mid-80s, and feels somewhat dated. This is in no way meant as an attack on Frida's efforts on "Shine". She clearly wanted a different sound and in that context, "Shine" is very successful. All that being said, I would buy a 'deluxe' version of "Shine" in a heartbeat if it included all of the previously unreleased tracks recorded in 1984.

Personally, I didn't really like the songs. I don't think they really fit with the other songs on the album, maybe that's why they were not included on the finished LP. That said, I wouldn't replace any of the 10 original songs with these two. But they could be fine additions as bonus tracks if the album is re-released in the future.
Btw, now I understand why these leaks have some vinyl noise, they were taken from unnoficial vinyl records. I'd love hearing the original file, with no noise at all.

Sorry for being Mr. negativitety here, but Shine was not good in my opinion, nor was her work with Phil Collins. Neither project was the right fit for Frida's talent and style. Not a criticism of Frida per se. I just think the songs were wrong. And the whole "80s look" was such a disappointment when compared against the ABBA period. There was something magical about 70s ABBA that was lost. I feel that Agnetha's post ABBA solo career was much better, although I do like Frida's 1996 Swedish album, and "Fire and Ice" live was damn good example of her rock talent.
I completely agree - I actually like Agentha a lot more in her solo career and Frida in ABBA. Agnetha’s solo albums are fantastic although I do like “Shine” a lot more than “SGO” - that album is horrible.
"Can't be serious" sounds quite "experimental" and reminds me in style of some tracks by Karin and Anders Glenmark from Gemini.
"When Love Turns To Lies" is too boring and without expression for me.
Talk style and approach all you want - in the end it's all about composition, and in Shine's case, Side One for the most part was sadly lacking. To come down from the melodic heights of ABBA to songs with frustratingly poor chord progressions is a devolution. The song "Shine" is the worst example. What a let-down.

I really think these 2 tracks and the entire project was an absolute disaster. So much so she wasn’t able to establish a record deal thereafter . A sad post Abba legacy , she could of done so much more

Ralf (his real name) manufactured and offered these songs on various auction sites for insane prices. When you are willing to rip off fellow fans like that, and you let buyers sign a document to not share but keep the tracks to themselves, you clearly don't understand the essence of beung an ABBA fan.
Share the music without making absurd profits! I'm glad the songs finally got out in the open. Ralf needs to find himself another cash cow.
