    I hate to see any kind of light at night, so would want my charging station covered, however if I could get a Humbleroad van, I would take whatever I got and figure out a way to live with it. If I ever won the lottery (I don't play), the first thing I would do is, make an appointment for my very own build. You are the best!

    I would not worry about someone knocking those items off the charger. I would guess that would be a very unusual event... and so recess the cubby if you want, or make it flush if you want. I think flush is a cleaner look, but recessed might be better if stuff (earrings?) is left there and the owner travels that day. I tend to leave junk around...so recessed.

    That is a great idea for the new electric bus panel - if it was my van though, I'd wan that entire box (especially the part facing the bed to have an insulated/metal cover or a full metal box for extra fire prevention - it would suck to wake-up with my feet on fire! LOL

  • @TerryManitoba
    @TerryManitoba Рік тому +8

    You are correct - You do need a variety of heights of drawers . After years of use I still have 5 to 6 drawers under my counters. Takes Mis-en-Place to a whole new level without having to stack stuff on top of each other. You couldn't pull that off because your drawers are way beefier than mine - but I wouldn't do it any other way.

    I did a similar solution for my sliding trays (and yes, bikes drove the dimensions for *everything*, hah) and used big heavy-duty slides like that. Are those from Fulterer?
    The big issue I had was that unlike smaller slides, those things don't come apart at all! I had to be very strategic in the whole install process to make sure I didn't run myself into a dead-end and have to reverse.

    Love the idea of the electric "tray"! Few questions:
    1. Any plans for the space below the bedside boxes? I can't imagine you dont have plans for that :)
    2. As far as weight distribution, I was a little surprised to see the battery and water on the same side of center. Does that matter as long as they're over the axle or will you have other heavy items such as the fridge etc on the driver's side that will compensate?

  • @BarryandKaren
    @BarryandKaren Рік тому

    A master builder at work. Love it. But, it's interesting to me how we can also have very different requirements for different needs and preferences. I want the SMALLEST round sink that can take a 13" plastic round tub. Why? Because we like to boondock and we use plastic bowls in the sink to wash our dishes/glasses in and then we dump the dish water outside to avoid filling the grey tank! And the smaller size uses much less fresh water, again maximizing our stay away from fresh water and dump stations! And we also like to have more countertop space which the smaller sink allows.Similarly, we only need a single, small, portable induction cooktop. We NEVER cook with more than one pot/pan! And again, we prefer the added countertop space.
    Also, fresh water tank must be minimum 50G and the grey can be around 30G with a flush on the grey tank and an electronic macerator pump with 3/4" hose on a reel for dumping the grey anywhere...even uphill. And no black tank needed as we only will ever use the Separett Tiny toilet so solids don't go in the tank. Urine diverter to the grey tank! Easy, efficient and simple.
    Finally, I like the idea of the glycol heating via vehicle fuel. Makes sense and if it also heats the tanks, then no propane is needed. Don't need a generator either if sufficient solar is fitted on an integrated and aerodynamic rack like the Orion rack, and a good DcDc is charging a large 640ah 24v LFP battery, which can drive a 24v DC aircon without inverter, leaving a 24v 3000VA Multiplus inverter-charger to provide up to 40 amps of power from a thin 20 amp extension cord. No need for heavy 30a cords when the a/c is not powered only by the external power!
    Imagine.....a lightweight 20a electric cord on a reel for the external power when in a campground. A lightweight, easier to manage, 3/4" waste hose on a reel for the grey tank, no messy poop dumping ever, great heating and cooling options and sufficient cooking and economical water and waste water usage. All in a small 24' van. Oh well, we can only dream to build such a van.....or hire a master builder like George to do it for us!!!

    • @mjremy2605
      @mjremy2605 Рік тому +1

      An Orion rack costs $2100 + $210 tax = 2310. You can buy a lot of 80/20 aluminum rails for that price and build your own custom rack. Why would you buy Orion and give them the markups? It's the same thing at much lower cost. Roof racks are not rocket science to build.
      Why would the AC not be powered by 110V when you have the option to do so at a campground? You always want options. The batteries could die, the solar may be loaded up with snow, you never know. Options.
      A DC air conditioner will not run directly on 110V AC power. Why would you not want that option? Makes no sense.
      If you can get a generator, get one. When you are out in the wilderness, even a flat tire can cost you your life. A generator can fill up that tire using a small compressor, can keep you warm and run life saving machines for you like a CPAP or other. Always have one. Don't make assumptions about knowing exactly what you need. There is always that one thing you forgot. Backup systems take the worry out of builds.

    • @BarryandKaren
      @BarryandKaren Рік тому +1

      @@mjremy2605 I do not have a CNC or metal cutting machine to form the fairings anywhere near as nicely as the Orion. Why build something that is already professionally designed and built? It is silly.
      2. There is no need for 120v to run an efficient DC air conditioner, given sufficient solar. Besides, I would still have minimum 15a from the campground which is MORE than enough to run the a/c with no help from the battery.
      3. I have lived full-time in an RV, mostly offgrid, for many years. LFP batteries are more reliable than grid power in some parts of the country LOL! My last rig had full-time 24x7x365 air conditioning running 100% offgrid from the solar on the roof and only 300ah of 24v Lifepo4 battery (which I assembled myself from raw LFP cells and an Electrodacus BMS) It worked PERFECTLY to supply all our electrical needs and air and heat pump, for 5 months at a time while traveling up North in the Summer.
      4. Tire Pumps CPAP, etc are all well covered with my vehicle's systems OR my Lithium system. I have the redundancy I need.
      5. I have lived this lifestyle for many years and know what works for me and what does not, and what is convenient for me and what is not needed. Everyone's needs are different. If I were the type to simply travel from fhu campground to fhu campground then I would have a very different set of wants and needs, but I don't do that much at all.

It's the most popular floor plan in the history of class B's! Winnebago is crap (sorry my opinion). You could build this floorplan the right way. 100% electric, no propane and WATERLESS toilets. I'm not a fan of fixed by beds, period.

      To each their own. I love our fixed bed over the ‘e-bike’😂 garage. Been there having to store the bedding during the day and making the bed each day in our previous PW and Westfalias, and it is nice to just be able to simply get into a ready made or un-made bed 😀

      I agree with you on that. I prefer an open access to the back doors. But if you are couple, and want to carry along a lot of bikes, and sporting gear for outdoor adventures, there is no other place to put it except under the bed. High end bikes attract thieves if you leave them outside on a bike rack. They can also be vandalized and have parts stolen from them. What choice do you have? You could have a slat bed you pull out on one side. Or if you are very creative, you could make a bed single or double like Dave Orton did, a winery engineer in a video by Kirsten Dirksen. Dave is very creative and likes a Spartan, functional van he can convert to hauling lumber or camping. If you put a loft bed, you sacrifice overhead cabinets possibly but that is an option. Check out the Kabe Affinity van for a creative bed solution. A Polish engineer designed it, and a Swedish company made it. Check out their twin bunk beds - made by converting two passenger seats. Mind blowing design. The Polish are excellent designers.
