Chelsea have been Brighton's biggest fans in recent years. With the London club gaining the services of Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez, Marc Cucurella and Graham Potter - they have paid the seaside club £225 million in the process.
But with this massive amount of money invested - just how are Brighton using the cash? Written by Andy Naylor and illustrated by Marco Bevilacqua

So Brighton's business plan is not to depend on their owner, but on Chelsea's owner instead. Cheers
lmao
Honestly think if multi club ownership was allowed within the PL itself then Clearlake and co would have bough Brighton too. Or at least attempted to.
Smart bit of business from Brighton
And Chelsea went for Saudi money. Which is better
@@cmacpan it's a never ending cycle
Brighton recruitment is phenomenal, even if they lose caicedo and Mac allister they are highly profitable, and still can compete the top 6 clubs.
But hurt their reputation with the Caicedo hostage they've done.
That never lasts for long, see Leicester City and Southampton.
@@davenalunat1433 maybe they hurt their reputation with Chelsea fans, but as a neutral (I don't support any PL team) I have enjoyed seeing the biggest clubs - who often feel entitled to trophies just because they're big - be humbled by the smaller clubs' resistance
Southampton regen
@@davenalunat1433LOL
Southampton had a spell like this too. Liverpool eventually raided them to death though, there's only so many times you can replace hidden gems. Then there's also the fact that any selling club to Brighton know that they're got the cash. Less mistakes become possible once they have to pay inflated prices vs before.
Nah Southampton got cocky and abandoned the method to try and climb the league a bit using the profits they got from us
Southampton choose wrong manager
Yeah that's what I'm saying
Brighton need to go and some established players to maintain their status
Not really. Sort of. They mostly had a great youth team that gelled with incomings
their defence already looks a lot worse this year, u can see the decline
Brighton have properly fleeced Chelsea - Cucurella, Potter (lol), and Caicedo, using the money to cover the cost of building both their stadium and training centre.
Reminds me of when Arsene Wenger signed Nicolas Anelka for £500k, Won the double with him and sold him for £22.3m, then used the money to buy Thierry Henry for £11m and built Arsenal London Colney Training ground for remaining £10m. Which is why I like Brighton as a well-run club.
Fantastic isn't it! 🤣
HAVERTZ 😭😭😂😂🫵🫵🫵🫵
And still win nothing ..small feeder club
@@-LetsHaveItRight-You don’t really follow football, do you? 🤡
Henry for 11m?????? Was he not well known then or was this normal
Brighton's transfer problem now is that they've made a name for themselves now and the seller clubs will be either reluctant to sell players to them or asking for higher fees, which means these crazy transfer margins will shrink considerably, and they have less rooms for transfer errors.
And they've lost most of their recruitment staff to Chelsea
Won't affect Brighton as long as they have academy players coming up regularly and recruitment of 17-18 year old teenagers in place. They can soon become what Dortmund have become in Europe.
I think they'll need to either change the transfer strategy if they want to stay in the European places and climb up or keep the strategy and make peace with yoyoing in and out of European places.
The good news is that Brighton would probably never go down/finish in the bottom 10from now on
@@utkarshdeshmukh6414
Those players don't come from their Academy they buy them cheap when few know them.
True. They're no longer under the radar. The teams they source from around the globe will take note and squeeze them for more potential future profit.
There's not enough Joe Devine on Tifo anymore :((((
The robbery of the century. Caicedo and cucurella for 150m lol
Don’t forget Potter.
115+67M£*
Don't forget Robert Sánchez lmaooo
It's no a robbery if they willing part with it. Its more financial stupidly
I can live with caicedo. Cucurella is the problem
Full credit to Brighton for creating a decently sustainable business model for a good long time. They came up from the championship in 2017 and have charted out a good way of staying in the Prem and making money from it
They’re still not sustainable - $400M injected from the owner isn’t really making money
Very impressive from a sporting perspective but not a cash cow (yet)
They are using the exact same model as Southampton did 7 years ago by being a selling club. The only problem is they’ll run out of gems to sell and end up getting relegated also.
@@Bendaaki hate you…….because you’re right. The player sales are unsustainable.
@@nsalas02and Dortmund?

Tariq Lamptey as well
The Amex cost 93m and the Old Trafford refurb to cost over 1bn? Good old Utd
😂😂😂
And surprisingly amex is a very good looking stadium. But man utd is a 1 time cost. Amex is slowly upgrading the stadium so more them 93m
Said it for years. Brighton are a giant killer on the quiet. Such a smart outfit.
Mitoma , Ferguson , Estuptian will bring in another 200m at least if they sell next summer .
If Ferguson has an amazing injury-free 20+ goals season, he'll go for a minimum 100m. Mitoma could go for over 50m and Estupinian I have no idea. So yea you're right, could approach or even surpass 200m. Huge Kudos to the scouting department and general management.
@@kazielbonn Brighton deserve Kudos but West Ham (my team) have Kudus, so are we the real winners?
@@kazielbonnnot even 20 goal season if he just gets 12 goals he will be worth 100 plus
Remember caicedo just played 1 season of prem football
@@Kzeditzzz387 Good point.
@@kiriakozthat whole video is all about Brighton though ya melt. Why even mention West ham 😂😳
Brighton knows good players can develop into great players if the environment is great. If they're supported, if they're happy, if it feels like a positive place to play. Whereas Chelsea always bets big on the almost-finished article, bringing players into their toxic mess and then not understanding why they don't play as well. It's not just Chelsea though, most big teams feel like this now. Less youth team integration, less development, and more big money gambles that crumble over the pressure of having to pay off, or risk being branded a flop and taking up transfer funds.
I can remember watching a Brighton team where only one player had come in for a fee...Gary Hart, who reputedly cost £1000 and a set of tracksuits when he joined from Chelmsford, pretty good player too...how times have changed for the Albion!
You should do West Ham with Rice money because they are doing an amazing job with 105mil.
Brighton is an example of how a football club should be run, they have excellent recruitment.
And to think they only got planning permission because there was an election near ...
Well done Brighton and Hove Albion.
I've a friend that has supported you for 40 years, thick and (very) thin.
Another who doesn't remember the Goldstone ground.
I cannot convey how happy they are since the new owners came in. They have done the city proud ❤
I’m paraphrasing but in a recent interview De Zerbi said something like “they can buy all our players but they can’t buy the good vibes”
But they can play him
Amazing
Definitely need more videos
Brighton is looking quite amazing in both league play and financials. It’s very impressive.
Been a fan since umaxit footbal! Keep up the great content!
Leicester do great as well few years ago, but i do think Brighton can do the sales in the better way
It would have been easier and cheaper to buy Brighton and then add James and Chilwell from from Chelsea.
Brighton possesses a three-step framework that is superior to that of every Premier League team. The players they are aiming for are also sought after by all the top clubs, but their distinctive approach to development and integration sets them apart.
The title of this video is so cheeky😂
Are they lying tho? 😂
The concourse improvements were given planning permission years ago. Before Chelseas money. The only reason why it hasnt been built yet was that it was put back due to the vid years. There are plans to build a womens/u21 stadium in Brighton now. Barco is our most exciting recent signing and is now back from international duty.
Don't know what it is but these guys' video's are so calming and easy to follow with the animations
Its the voice
25M for Yves Bissouma was a steal for Tottenham. 😂😂
Would love them to build a bigger international fanbase and max out capacity at the AmMex to get some serious revenue going. Very much a hipster club in an era where that kind of thing would be cool, so I have some hope.
How are they a hipster club? Because Brighton is hipster cool? The only Brighton fans I know are from the area, and comments like yours are disrespectful to them.
I read somewhere that the Amex is pretty well maxed out capacity wise in terms of it’s structure.
Shame, bet they could fill a 50 thousand stadium these days.@@stephennewton2777
@anthonymurphy6649 Brighton before last season we’re a team that people used to fawn over because they always put up insane XG even if that didn’t translate anywhere near the goal production.
Gushing over XG whilst barely acknowledging the goals is a VERY hipster approach to football.
@@alexmiddleton2276 Nah.
Brighton is playing FM in real life :D
With this, I've counted more than a hundred videos were a lot of commenters made it obvious that didn't watch the video before writing bullocks. Keep it up, Tifo.
The ONLY thing I would like to see that doesnt appear to have been done yet (at least its not publicly been shared) is another increase in capacity to 36,000 or at least a roadmap. That would be the ideal capacity for where we are at right now in my opinion
Dezerbi : I don't remember caceido 😅
Thats the statement of the year
My team, Werder Bremen, had a similar but better spell at the beginning of the 2000s. Won the Double in 2004, finished within the top 3 consistently, got to an UEFA Cup final and a semifinal, only narrowly and luckily knocked out of the CL in the round of 16 by Juventus in 2006, won the DFB Pokal in 2009. Then eventually the long prevailing recruitment strategy didn't work anymore, became a mid table side in the 2010s, got relegated in 2021, and although we got back up right in the next season, we've been fighting relegation in the past 2 seasons. Enjoy it while it lasts
The biggest purchase was probably the Head of Player Recruitment. He absolutely led the way for Chelsea to further buy more players from Brighton
I like the chunky slab serif, but think it might be getting overused
the caption 😂😂
I’m about 90% sure that half the reason Sancho is out of the squad at United is because he’s their highest earner and being able to drop that £350k/week wage off the bill. If you get rid of Martial too, the 5 biggest earners at the club will be Varane, Casemiro, Rashford, Bruno, Antony, in that order.
Thats so cool!
Part of that extra £30m fr Caicedo deal Brighton should have given some to Liverpool as a bonus tbf.
Basically few clubs at top level know how to develop players so they succeed in 1st team. Brighton recruit more young players and many go out on loan each time stepping up a level. Those thought good enough are then introduced to 1st team squad and actually played.
Tony bloom knows how to run a football club
No two ways about that
All this while still playing good football 🔥
Wow, why y'all gotta do my club like that.😂
Im doing the same thing with Chelsea’s money on fm to help my hometown team
Lol😅. The title 😂
We signed 17 year old Romanian winger Adrian Mazilu as well.
I can't look at Boehly now without thinking of his 442 toons character! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Look it up if you've not heard of it, you won't be disappointed.

I like the number of Mitoma's this money buys but I need context - like how many fredos does this buy?
Why is their away end so big though??
“For example, and this is true …”
Brighton and Brentford are two prime example of how to shrewdly spend and still be in conversation to be in europe against top 6 (now 7 😉) of the PL
Moneyball clubs
Benham used to work for Tony Bloom and he left and joined Brentford
When people talk about Brentford moneyball, they overlook the seagulls
Cant wait to see brighton in ucl
Me imagining Brighton winning the Europa League.
They very much could
Cough.. Cough.. Liverpool...
Nah, West Ham will win it. Brighton are finished, they could get relegated this season.
I really appreciate the fact that their emerging talent manager is named Jewell haha.
They should buy Fornals who might become redundant in WestHam
It’s good that Brighton put in some new carpet 🤣
What if the owners just pocketed the majority
I mean to be honest can you blame them? Considering Brighton is still in debt to Tony Bloom up until this day even with all the transfer income.......
Then they’ll be called Manchester United football club.
The owner comes from a family of Brighton fans. Uncle was on the board in the 70s…
Could you perhaps make a video about the new Bayern goalkeeper? As he's not a huge name and it's kinda weird that they aren't going for an already at the top goalkeeper.
Love your videos!
Who cares about bayern, football is all about epl and england
They'll make a big move next year - the plan to hire a top notch nr1 who would be willing to stay behind neuer once he came back proved to be too expensive so now they go with a smaller solution until Neuer is no longer on the required level.
Also, they are hoping to get lucky with Peretz as he may be able to develop into their new nr 1 (large shoes to step into though)

It's very tricky to be a small club. Today's times are so much better. I'm sure a billionaire investing in clubs like Brighton, Brentford that are playing quality football way above their financial capabilities, is just around the corner!
I would die to see Mitoma to Arsenal
Crazy headline LOL
The Video Title Is Hilarious ngl
The rate Chelsea's going at, Brighton may have to open up a chain franchise😂
As a genius at recruitment I'd work for them
Ferguson and Mitoma will both easily fetch 100m+ euros also
In a way, Brighton kinda owes Todd Boehly more than Chelsea does. But at least Brighton's management knows how to handle things financially, compared to Chelsea (and Boehly) now 😂
Ah yes bc Chelsea didnt scam United And Arsenal for deadbeat players
MittoMars? What the
Todd Beohly should have just bought Brighton and transferred in a few Chelsea players on the low!! He would have saved money and had a better team!!!
Kinda funny and sad that Graham Potter was bought by Chelsea, yet he isn’t even there anymore
I hope they go on and finish ahead chelsea again. It would be sweet like like lightning a fire all over chelseas money stash
Ouch guys
Brighton the new Dortmund of English football ⚽️
Reminds most Liverpool and Southampton.
What is this title TIFO 😂😂 better banter than rival fans
Brighton is a new Porto or benfica.
Going to go the same way as Southampton,it cannot be sustainable to continously losing great players,by law of averages
while all of this works for them for now it is not sustainable at all , replacements are almost always a downgrade ,and you can only lose so much players, managers ,staff before you crumble , they need to use that money to convince their best players to stay first, big clubs will eventually come for de zerbi too
Talk about some Finnesse, Brighton is a different breed. 😂
Profit does not include shareholder investment, so your numbers are misleading, sorry!
U wonder eddie howe was clueless for the past 2 transfer windows

Idk why but I felt like Brighton will become a big club in the future
I really don't understand why Todd boehly didn't just buy Brighton tbh

I'd have bought a trebuchet. Let people know who's in charge.
Why didn't he just buy Brighton?
Chelsea should just buy Brigthon holve albion at this point
Can't tell whose the master
How Tottenham are spending Real Madrid's money - Modric & Bale (does hold water after 10 years)
Boehly thinks he found a loophole, but take Caicedo.
£115m over 8.5 years.
If he does not work out then after 2 years a transfer fee of anything less than £88m means you take a loss.
Plus amortization will be in line with UEFA, being 5 years max, so the replacement will need to have a fee of £67.6m max or you get more losses.
Has all of it gone to brighton? What about gilmour? He went from chelsea to brighton on a permanent deal.
Are you sure it's not just American express spending its own money?????
