    Repealing the law that required them to build these vessels in Washington was something that should have happened before they needed new ships.

    I pay $180 for 10 days of commuting from clinton to mukilteo and back every weekday and sometimes weekends. $360 or more a month. I’m 1 of thousands. The workers are great. The delays and breakdowns are unacceptable.

    • @brandonrequa4805
      @brandonrequa4805 16 днів тому

      You could take Island Transit for free to Clinton (or park there) from Langley, Freeland Greenbank or Coupeville; walk across the Mukilteo for free to Community Transit Bus 117 ($2.50), and connect to Lynnwood Link Station. From Lynnwood take Link to Seattle ($3) or Stride S2 to Bellevue with transfer to Redmond East Link, Issaquah or Renton. Total cost is $5.50 east and $11.75 west daily. 10 days of commuting would cost $167.50 or $335/month. It could save you $35+ a month plus gas depending on your other costs.

    I pay $600 a month to ride the ferry. So do thousands of others. Where is the money going. The rates go up every year and the service gets worse.

      @@brandonosborne5070 that's peanuts. The ferries are not sustainable with fares. They are subsidized by taxes. if you paid the true cost by fares you'd probably owe 50 dollars per trip

    The State got a huge increase in revenue when they began collecting State sales taxes on internet sales. They pissed that away on what exactly? That is just one example of why Washington is in crisis, but the underlying issue is that perpetual children in Seattle and to a lesser degree other urban areas elect people who have absolutely no grasp on reality.

    Over 30 years living here every 5-10 years there is another”ferry crisis”.
    Vashon has no bridge 🤷🏼‍♀️
    Since moving to WA the book of 10 car and driver ticket for Vashon has gone up from 68.60 to over 111.00 last I checked. (for round trip)Already more than double.
    People are getting priced out of public transportation. It used to be much more affordable for people who were willing to leave their cars behind on KCM vanpools and subsidized transportation passes through large employers. Not anymore 🤷🏼‍♀️

      @@walawala-fo7ds the plan was actually to build a bridge that would link King county to Pierce county hop scotching over by using Vashon island in between thus eliminating the need for ferry and easing commuters cost and drive time. This was before the second HCB span. I lived and commuted off the rock utilizing King county Metro vanpool for nearly a decade. The fuel, mileage/maintenance were subsidized and we were priority loaded ahead of all the other none HOV commuters. There were at least 2, 8 passenger vans and 1, 12 passenger on our boat. Each person riding had to pay for one passenger ticket except the principle driver and back up drivers when they drove. The mileage was split between all the passengers and was usually under $50 a month in our 12 passenger van. All 3 vans commuted to UW. ⛴ go DAWGs!

      @islandbirdw king county is literally the land border of pierce county. what's there to link? the Kitsap peninsula and the various islands are choices of a rural lifestyle. building these bridges is economically wasteful.

      @cmdrls212 16 днів тому +1

      Want 30 dollar tabs? pay for your own roads via tolls and property taxes then. nothing is free. As the video said, the reason the ferries are underfunded was because of a law to lower the tabs that financed them. you got played by the rich elite passing measures you didn't understand 😂

      I lived in Texas for 10 years. Way bigger than Washington btw. Way more roads. We had $30 tabs and the roads stayed well maintained. Where is the money going here? The general fund which is why we don't have maintained roads, schools or ferry system. The government screwed us with the general fund.

      @walawala-fo7ds 16 днів тому +1

      @susantully1533 Texas doesn't have a ferry fleet while Washington has the largest in the entire US. Texas doesn't just use tabs but also uses sales taxes, gas taxes, and taxes on the oil companies in top of federal grants. Washington similarly taxes gas but as electric vehicles from Elon ravage gasoline yax revenue, Washington like most other states will need to replace the pump tax with something Elon mobiles pay. A mileage tax has been floated but also various registration taxes for EVs.

    The ferry system has always been in trouble. You couldn't pay me enough to live somewhere only accessible by ferry. It was bad enough when the WS bridge went out and having to navigate around this tiny peninsula. I can't imagine trying to get from Bremerton to Seattle via car five days a week.

      Jay was too interested in futuristic diesel electric hybrid ferries. Unfortunately, the cost for them increased with additional R&D expenses. The delay severed the ferry construction pipeline and the affordably to build them. WSF now has to look out of state as Vigor is currently contracted to meet the dry docking needs of the Navy. Hopefully, PSNS can start the modernization process of their drydocks soon.

    Yes, WSF should be right sized and eliminate the waste that is Vashon… WE taxpayers should not pay for island living for a few when we souls build bridges to Vashon and move traffic to flow through Bremerton if needed… that will elongate terminals and runs… State has taken this on but it doesn’t mean We have to run it the same as Blackball did when it threw it over to the state as a money drain losing operation. Bay Area stopped moving cars and only loves people… with minor exception… time for WSF to make some hard decisions or forever be drained of $$$$’s… keep Bremerton, Bainbridge (closest/highest Fairborn return) and Islands as they are en extension of the highway… buy the land up north used for parking instead of a long term lease they signed… we paid to move a failing business for friends of those on Transportation Committee and it costs us taxpayers… quit the theft of state $$& by a few… should be a story

    • @brandonrequa4805
      @brandonrequa4805 16 днів тому

      Have one auto ferry operate Bremerton to Seattle with the Kitsap Fast Ferry. Close the Fauntleroy terminal, with one boat service from Southworth to Vashon only. The King County Water Taxi can connect Vashon and Downtown Seattle. Reduce Point Defiance to Tahlequah to one auto ferry. Keep all other routes the same, with Port Townsend to Keystone having one winter auto ferry. Reduce San Juan Island service by building an Anacortes parking lot with walk on passengers using San Juan Island bus services, especially during the summer.
