    This worked very well for me. And for those that have problems with signing into work or school Microsoft account in the win 11 setup up; all you need to do is to downgrade to 2017 win 10 or win 8 and then sign in your Microsoft account. Then go ahead and follow the process in this video to upgrade back to win 11

    thanks again Chris, for a spot on video. I reiterate my previous comment. All this security should be optional. Install it if you need or want it (and meet the hardware requirements), otherwise skip it. Much as I am not a fan of lawyers I'd like to see a case made against MS and the hardware vendors for collusion.

    Just upgraded my Windows 10 Boot Camp partition to Windows 11 (latest version Win11_23H2_Portuguese_x64v2.iso), on an iMac 27inch Late 2013 and everything went smoothly, all devices recognized, all apps installed on Windows 10 working now on Windows 11, including a version of MS Office 2016. Automatic updates are also working. So sad that the same is not possible with recent versions of macOS. Many thanks!

    Many thanks for this video. Microsoft have deliberately made W10 buggy to force people to move to W11. The only problem I experienced after the W11 load was a lot of slowing with multiple windows open. I assumed this was caused by increased RAM usage by W11, so I spent $22 expanding my laptop to 16G and now it is fast.

    Your video is the best video I have seen to update an unsupported PC to windows 11. I have a Lenovo T460s with Windows 10 Pro 22H2. I ran the PC health check and everything looks good except the processor is not supported. I have TPM 2.0, Secure boot and 12gb of memory. Planning to follow this method as this is just a surfing laptop. What happens when Microsoft has new security updates or newer version? Will I have to install them manually?

    well one way arround that is you could use lt as your daily software then setup a VM for windows software only you could also try using wine to run your basic scripts installing office on Wine plus VM is a good way of securing your system if you do move to Liynx windows will be off expect for updates every Tuesday unless you need it or you could just get a mac as well to try out the software compatibility you would need to setup a VM for Windows yes for access I have done this it works well you can hide the Microsoft desktop and have only the start menu or open the windows app right on the mac list of apps maybe lynx will have something like that too just a idea then you can play around to get basic to work as well

    • @cwtek1
      @cwtek1  8 місяців тому +1

      , if I was to setup a VM for my work stuff I would essentially be booting up two operating systems which would really slow things down. I wouldn't go down the Mac route as I like the flexibility of my pc's hardware and software, I have several drives in my PC and a Satellite Card also Video capture. Thanks for the tips but it sounds easier for me to just stay with Windows.

      @@cwtek1 I had a hunch that's what this is as soon as I read System Information. Yes, as you say, things will be slower, plus if on a laptop, better bring your power brick or backup battery for long workdays. Or if one likes Windows 11, simply buy or build a new machine. Of course, it's impossible with most laptops, yet I see many at Costco on promo for as little as $599 plus taxes & any extra warranty. They double the OEM warranties on (most) computers & give a generous 90 day return period.
      Still, this method may be a decent & free way to see how one likes Windows 11.👍
      I was looking for a way to upgrade Windows 10 Pro 22H2 to 11 Pro 23H2 w/out any VM involved. Newer computers can do this w/out extra steps, just download the ISO, mount & after data backup, as well as Full disk image, then start the upgrade process. With an NVMe SSD in place, should be done inside of 30 minutes!💯

    This is complicated, why not go the easy "press shift-f10 during setup, set two registry keys AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU and LabConfig" way, as from day #1 of Windows 11? Is there something wrong with that way?
    (By the way, even if you use this way you go here, you don't need to extract the files to an own directory, you can directly start from sources subdir in the mounted ISO file (doubleclick on ISO mounts it as a virtual CD drive on all current Windows versions).

    • @cwtek1
      @cwtek1  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for the tip but I prefer the way in the video and find it much easier and more official as this backdoor was obviously put in by Microsoft for a reason.

    • @Lofote
      @Lofote 6 місяців тому +1

      @@cwtek1Mmmh, the backdoor with the registry keys is much more clearly a backdoor intentionally put it. The way you go is put the setup program into Server installation. While it seems to still install Windows 11 client, there might be some things that are not obvious. For me this sounds more like a hack that can bring strange side effects :(...

    Hi Chris, do you know why copilot is not showing on unsupported pc’s? Is a general issue or behavior in that kind of pc’s? Co-pilot is not currently available in the EU so if you are in the EU this could be a reason, also co-pilot is not being used on muti monitor systems. It seems that some people on supported systems are also not getting co-pilot, its early days so hopefully should be out soon for everyone.

    I have a 13 year old AMD FX 6100, 6 core, 3.3 which has been happily running on Windows 10 Pro version 10.0.19045 and which dual boots with Ubuntu care of the CLOVER software (Clover operates from drive D: A permanently installed 256GB USB stick). The BIOS doesn't have UEFI, secure boot or TPM. Similarly, the BIOS does not support the M2 NVME (Drive C:, Windows is on C:) as a boot drive, but Clover does and it provides the NVME support courtesy of a permanently installed USB stick
    I have over the past year downloaded and installed multiple Windows 10 updaters without incident or noticeable impairment of Windows or Clover.
    Are any of the above complications likely cause problems with the Win_11 installation using the method depicted in your video ?
    Also, I notice that my version of W10 runs on English Language UK ! i.e. not US or International . . . hmmm ?
    I use this desktop just for playing around and experimentation (Being number three to two others) - there is no valuable or any personal data kept on this machine. Therefore, I am prepared to take a bit of risk as regards ne installations, but if problems can be avoided, then all to the good.
    Postscript:
    Transition all done, retaining all existing apps and files and including updates . . 3hours and 10 minutes door to door. . . and no issues along the way . . . fully automatic once the install process was set in motion. The discouraging thing is that its nearly as fast as the home built unit I replaced it with earlier this year.

    Does not work for me :(. The first time I did it it came back with an error saying could not update windows and crashed, then rolled back and gave an error which apparently was related to not enough disk space. I cleaned up a heap of drive space to get 100gb of free space and ran the process again, but now the install does not run at all. It starts seeing if my computer is ready and then instead of bringing up the big blue window, it just closes out and thats as far as it'll go.

      @byrd203 This is what I was asking about above, I didn't see in video where VirtualBox is needed!🥵 Figured someone in comments would bring it up & this must be why we cannot just mount the drive & begin install (or the commands doesn't work that way). Will still try it, but prefer WMWare Workstation (Free) over VBox.
      I also don't look forward to giving up so much RAM & CPU cores, there were no 8 core/16 thread options for the Z97 chipset. For X99, there's that many, plus 40 lanes for extra NVMe SSD's (3rd gen). 2 cores from my i7-4790K & 12GB of my 32GB XMP DDR3-2400 will slow my PC & use a lot of power. The native OS still must be booted for VirtualBox to run. There should be a setup like Wubi offered for XP to install Ubuntu, Linux Mint & other popular Linux distros inside of the native OS, yet both OS's had their own boot option (NOT a VM).💯

    This a a copy of what I typed as a comment on your previous video, because unfortunately, the upgrade failed for me (as it has with all the previous methods I have tried). Essentially, at the very beginning of the install, it sits there for a while saying "Checking your PC". Mine fails at this point with the same error I always get: Windows Server Setup is the title, then "Sorry, we're having trouble determining if your PC can run Windows Server. One thing I seen after upgrade, if one has a backup drive (& should! have), KEEP the downloaded ISO there in case a repair source is required. Have had to run repair installs a few times since Windows 8 was released, am the one in the family everyone comes to for PC repair, be it Malware cleanup or an upgrade gone bad. As usual, none keeps a backup & have given most a drive built myself & installed software, then showed how to use it all.🤣
    BTW, is this a VirtualBox install, looks to be so in System Information? Reason I ask, have found the free VMWare Workstation to be better in some ways, at least when running VM's on Linux. Plus Windows 8 & upwards has Hyper-V, of course the newer the PC, the better with this option. The other issue being, although Microsoft touted Hyper-V as a main "feature" of Windows 8 in late 2012, they never provided the straight instructions for creating these machines like they did with "boot to vhd" with Windows 7 Ultimate (where Hyper-V came from, only simpler). No wonder we got the upgrade for $40 (some of us only $15 with recent purchase, no proof required). Then they took out Live TV away, although gave us free Media Center COA's.
    This will be interesting & will try it, although I believe some instructions (regarding physical or Virtual Box by Oracle) has been left out during the breaks in video.🤣🤣🤣 And will be back to report how things went before leaving a final review.👍 I want to leave a fair one for everyone, to include Chris, the creator of this video.

    I have a 23H2 that is about a month old and it came with Win11 new. Not sure if it's the specs or not: Dell 3535 AMD Ryzen 7 7730U, 64gb RAM, 2tb SSD. My processor was probably available 7 months ago when your video is dated, although still very expensive (half the cost of the laptop). I did reload Windows because I tried too much to remove bloatware and it crashed, but it loaded back up from the flash drive just fine (It's own copy, not from the web). Best I know is my laptop was made about 2 months ago, so maybe there's something about it that is different from the version you have. Money should make no difference, but to put it in a category, it was $900.
    I have Win11 Home, but had the option of Pro. I chose the former because I don't network and it was $50 more. I used that $50 for another 1tb of space. 11 Pro does come with Bitlocker, but I don't care about that. From some tasks I've seen compared, 10 works slightly faster than 11. Even for an program like Photoshop, it loads as fast on both OSs. Most things cannot be determined as any different except for style between 10 and 11, except for another GB of space for 11. 11 did better on a few things, but not sure which, maybe connecting to the internet or something an eye-blink would miss.
    I do like the look of 11; I needed something to get used to after my favorite, XP years ago. I used Classic Shell for all of them (all versions of Windows after XP) except 11, because I loved the look of XP so much. I have both 10 & 11, and prefer 11. But, if I had a laptop that was not compatible (according to Microsoft), I'd be okay with 10, because that is exactly my case. One has 10 Pro; one has 11 Home.
    I like the simplicity of 11, but have no problem with 10. If I make major changes, like something Microsoft says not to, I ensure it's a unit I can afford to lose, yet make a backup USB from that unit (not the web). I know Microsoft can recommend anything they wish, and don't think I believe everything I hear. Since I have both, I have no incentive to change the Win10, I just use the other unit. The Win10 laptop s basically a backup or a travel unit. But, there isn't that much difference in performance to make any difference and some people are annoyed at the look of 11 (the Start menu), but I like it. It isn't "better", but as Spock would say, it is "interesting".
    Oh, and guess what? "AI" had nothing to do with what I just typed with my own hands! It would have no clue of my finding Mr. Spock, "fascinating". LOL! Some things will not change.
    Thanks for the video!

    If you upgraded a non-supported PC to Windows 11, and Microsoft then put on an update that killed the PC, couldn’t you just reinstall Windows 10?

    • @cwtek1
      @cwtek1  2 місяці тому

      Yes you could but you would need to backup your files to an external device reinstall Windows 10 from Scratch, then reapply your files and programs and also settings, as there is no downgrade path.

    So why would anyone want to put windows 11 on there machine as microsoft havent been able to make a vertion of windows that actually works properly since windows xp home, never mind the updates and gigabytes of free space wasted then lost when doing it ???????? but the worst part is the updates , constantlly on windows ten every night my computer tries to download and update my machine even after ive tried every way to stopit updateing to the extent i just use my tablet online more than my computer

      @cwtek1  8 місяців тому

      If you have a SSD drive windows 10 and 11 are not bad, most things can be done on a tablet now but there are a few things you still need a PC for!

      Because windows 10 is going to die so being able to at least force devices to windows 11 may be needed for security in 2025

      AMEN! Have been running Linux Mint since 2007, or the 7th version, named Gloria.👍 Have it installed as a dual boot on 2 computers & a standalone OS on a couple of machines designed to run Vista 64 bit. Love the fact that it's naturally compatible with 15+ year old 64 bit computers (XP 64 bit Pro & newer). As well as on the newer models too, and don't have to wait 3 weeks for important updates.💯
      Although I never did because didn't have to, there's ways to install some MS software like Office via WINE. Skype installs naturally from their software depositories, as does lots of apps that runs on Windows & Mac. Same browsers too, although never tried installing Edge on Linux Mint, that one uses more resources than Chrome.🤣
