Frank Langella made skeletor one of the coolest villains ever back then. Lundgren was PERFECT as He Man. They took the cheese out of the cartoon and made a scifi masterpiece. How can anyone not love this movie? It's POETIC!!! Richard Edlund = SPECIAL EFFECTS MASTER You can feel the effects he makes because they are made to BLEND as realistic LIGHT.
Well said. The movie is one of my favorites ever. The look Moebius made for the buildings and characters is absolutely legendary. The Cosmic Key's epic theme for Eternia is my ring tone to this day. This type of movie making is a lost art.
This was the first EVER VHS I ever saw! My mom bought us our first player and rented this film for me! It still has a place in my heart I love it! Frank Langella as Skeletor was 👌🏻
Star Wars designs on the Skeletor Troops like Darth Vader style helmets and Death Star Gunner face masks. The mercenaries were like the bounty hunters from ESB and the Theme sounds like Superman's Chris Reeves movies.
Totally agree they should of designed them to look like horde troops then they would be faithful to the show and would look ok too. Skeletor too much like emperor Palpatine in Return of the jedi too.
Now I 've seen some behind tge scenes, I feel i've learnt something about my favourite film. Good work. Now see if we can find some of deleted scenes...
+solomonpictures This was on the original VHS? I heard Goddard say in an interview, that there's a whole behind the scenes Doc that has yet to be released. He said that in 2012 I believe. And that's what I was looking for when I found this. Absolutely love this movie. Seeing this in the theaters (for 2 back to back showings) back in 1987, is the reason I work in the film business today!
+Dallas Bagley That's correct. This documentary was at the beginning of my purchased VHS copy of the film. We've had it since the 1980s. Maybe only for certain countries they released the VHS with the documentary at the beginning. We're based in Australia, and I don't think we ever had a theatrical release of the film. I'm only speculating that by looking at the 'ticking counter' in the bottom left corner of the video. But I'm pretty sure Masters of the Universe went straight to video in Australia.
The behind the scenes doc he was talking about was a new retrospective one, not vintage. Warner backed out to include it on the Blu-ray... Last I heard it was meant to be added as a special feature from the TOY MASTERS doc but I don't know if that's still the case.
Awesome documentary! Too bad it wasn't included on the DVD (the only bonus features included on the DVD are the film's theatrical trailer and audio commentary from the film's director, Gary Goddard)!
I don't know. This documentary was featured on my VHS copy of the film which we got back in the 1980s. We reside in Australia, so they may have only featured it on certain international VHS releases. But I don't know for sure either. I'm pretty sure here in Australia the film was a straight to video release. No theatrical release.
Yeah I think it's was supposed to be triclops. The guy who played blade was bought in to teach Dolph how to use the sword and I guess they liked him enough to be in the movie.
I always thought that the Skeletor troops are really robot's and he mentions it was worked on a $17 million dollar budget and was Lundgrens 2nd film role
Always hated Karg, let the team down and they lost the best member, Saurod. Sure, Beastman is an iconic henchman, but, well, Least Saurod got an action figure. May he come back in the new film or something.
Lundgren and Langella were perfectly cast in my belief. Saurod was cool as , they killed him off way too early. Detective Lubic was good too. They should have made skeletors soldiers look like horde troopers from shera.

YOU HAD THE POWER
"Only one of you, Kevin; only one of anybody."
Fantastic! I love when stuff like this re-surfaces.
No problems. Glad you liked it.
Skeletors transformation scene at the end was Fuxking epic and that yellow electric, Love it.
Thanks for sharing! This is a rare treat as I honestly thought there was nothing left to see on this movie.
Supposedly there was an HBO report from the set but couldn't find someone who managed to tape it.
No worries. Glad you guys appreciate it. It was just collecting dust under my house for almost 25 years. Lol.
solomonpictures Thanksnfor this! I'm doing my leaving Cert exam today and I'd prepared an essay on the movie. I'm glad to have a little more info!
The video was part of the original media kit that was made to help promote the film.
Excellent film 🎥
AS IF there was ever anyone better to play He-man than Dolph Lundgren. He was perfect.
Such an underrated classic.
lol - it's a piece of shit.
I couldn't agree with you more, Sage Antone!
Good point, @@MasterWilliam82 . Thanks for commenting, bro.
Nailed it!
They should have at LEAST put THIS on the dvd or blu ray.......there needs to be a good documentary grrrr
Absolutely agree... What a shame and lack of any effort to create the anniversary film disc editions....
I agree, Ethan John! The only bonus features on the DVD are the film's theatrical trailer and audio commentary by the film's director, Gary Goddard.
Find the key! Tear this place apart - Karg was really mad hahah
our informants say he has to be here
says karg in the german version
Fantastic costumes and practical effects in this film. The movie screams 80s. I love it

Was this the Showtime special I remember watching as a kid, back in 87?
This preview was at the beginning of my 1980s VHS copy of the film. With regards to a Showtime Special I really wouldn't know.
Now I 've seen some behind tge scenes, I feel i've learnt something about my favourite film. Good work. Now see if we can find some of deleted scenes...
Nice find!
+dredd1981 No worries. I've had this VHS since the 1980's. But it had been stored under the house for years. Good to see it has some value these days.

It actually was released theatrically in Australia.
The behind the scenes doc he was talking about was a new retrospective one, not vintage. Warner backed out to include it on the Blu-ray... Last I heard it was meant to be added as a special feature from the TOY MASTERS doc but I don't know if that's still the case.
About time!
Awesome documentary! Too bad it wasn't included on the DVD (the only bonus features included on the DVD are the film's theatrical trailer and audio commentary from the film's director, Gary Goddard)!
Dolph voice sounded different in this documentary preview than in the actual movie. Lol.
his accent doesn't seem strong
almost sounds American
He sounds a lot more American than Arnold
Karg the Assassin? More like Karg the Naggy Slavedriving Boss.
Great find has this ever been on the DVD
I don't know. This documentary was featured on my VHS copy of the film which we got back in the 1980s. We reside in Australia, so they may have only featured it on certain international VHS releases. solomonpictures are you on Facebook there's a group for this movie
Yes. I'm on facebook. Might check out the film's page.
solomonpictures cool the groups name is masters of the universe movie fans
Frank/Skeletor made that movie what it is!!!
There was no warrior on skelitors side called blade
He was introduced for the movie.
Yeah I think it's was supposed to be triclops. The guy who played blade was bought in to teach Dolph how to use the sword and I guess they liked him enough to be in the movie.
Is there more to this or is it only 4mins long ?
How have I never seen this?!
Well that's what Gary Goddard says in the dvd movie commentary
The film has good action and makes me cry but had the film recorded onto a Memorex VHS Tape
Chelsea Field is gorgeous 🥰 in this movie!
Lundgren and Langella were perfectly cast in my belief. Saurod was cool as , they killed him off way too early. Detective Lubic was good too. They should have made skeletors soldiers look like horde troopers from shera.
The best Skeletor to date
That intro music was a lot similar to superman
Original VHS cost $89.95
jimán!
But...but Blade was one of the new characters.
I guarantee Cannon Films didn't pay for this 4 minute clip.
better than Kevin smith
Kevin and Julie were not cartoon show but there were new just mugeil and Alicia were in Christmas TV film was
The film floped but it was very good worldwide success beasuce of children who loves the cartoon
multi million dollar budget my ass.
Cost 22 million dollars
22 million dollars is multi-million sounds like somebody needs to go back to school
@@gregorypearce7468 but its still not enough. If it had more money then it would have been cool.
Lundgren, Langella and the costume designer nailed it ! But the production sucks !

This movie was the worst adaptation of a cartoon that I ever saw.
Well I loved it😁😜
It is fine to me
Chin Gon me too
lol! Really? Because speaking as someone who grew up on the cartoon and the movie....I think the movie is far superior.
Well, the film was mostly based on the Action Figure line. There were a few elements from the cartoon, but not a lot.
