When i was a kid in the mid 60s all boys carried a penknife and my mum bought me a fixed blade knife similar to the one you have. We used them as tools the way they were meant to be used. Even when we fell out with each other it never entered our minds to attack each other or anybody else for that matter with them. We often walked around public areas with them even the sheath knives on our belts, but under our shirts although they were still visible. Very Different times! All very inocent fun.

Knives have not been allowed in scouts since around 2007 I think, this was due to a fellow scout beheading another of his troop as they fell out over some trivial matter.

Check out frogmoon wild camps. He loves the old style sheath knives and has an impressive collection. I remember the moving video you made at the time about your tragic young friend. Stay safe and positive and have an enjoyable christmas time.
My dad had that exact compass. Not sure where it is now. Hopefully in his loft and I'll be reunited with it one day. I recall playing with it as a kid in the 80s/early 90s and treating it like an antique even then.

Cancer rates are up due to pollution and living longer. Background radiation is not a harm to us, its surmised that countries with a higher natural background radiation (Iran etc) have lower incidences of cancers.
