My service dog is for PTSD, and he's a smaller breed, around 25lbs, and I can't count how many times people have asked me how big he'll be when he grows up, how he's so well behaved, and what branch of the military I was in... I'm seventeen years old. I snorted every time you said "is she in training" because gosh damn is that accurate.
I am autistic and I do not have a service dog but I am hoping to get one. And even though I don't have one I have still had people say about half of this stuff to me
I think there needs to be a bingo card with all of these. Would be a fun way to pass the time when out for a long day with my son and his autism service dog.
This is art. This is the kind of video that make me want to show it to my family and the whole world. This is the kind of video that really SPEAKS. (Fuck autismspeaks) Is it weird that I both laughed and cried when watching this video...? I don't cry that often but tears came rolling...
THANK YOU this is such a fantastic video to cover an issue so many of us face and it is done in such a great way!!! I love how this is not just giving a list of things people say but it really SHOWS how people act and look when doing these things the expressions and how they get right down in the dogs face telling the dog they can not pet her/him in that tone and manner that sets MY hair on fire, my poor dog has to endure it up close. I also love how you show the lack of boundaries that some people have when talking to people with disabilities, questions or comments they would never consider putting to someone who doesn't live with a disability they will with out hesitation put to those of us who do live with a disability. PLEASE make more of this type of video you are marvelous
I dont have a service dog but all the ones about autism i can totally relate to including things such as "but youre a girl" and "youv grown out of it by now HAVNT YOU?!l
My son is autistic , and I got a service dog to help him. Not only does she do a WONDERFUL job, she is also a part of the family. Unfortunately, my son is just turned 7 years old. I expect this kind of stupid crap from other children, the problem is the ADULTS! I actually walked up to my son and Lena( his dog ) in the toy dept @ Wally World , and he was surrounded by three women and a man ,bombarding him w/ questions. He was frozen. See, I'm not autistic...I'm a very protective father ( and an a##hole sometimes- I don't really like people...he,he!) I pushed my way through them, literally, and told them to get the F^#K away from my boy. They didn't like being bumped. The man said "looks like YOU need the dog, mister, not the kid." I wheeled on him and told him my boy is autistic, I left My PTSD dog at home today! He,he! MiF
One of our favourites is random strangers telling him to “Sit” and then, after being ignored they say, “well, it doesn’t seem very well trained to me!”
I have autism (autistic spectrum disorder, whatever), as well as depression and ADD. The one thing I've learned to ALWAYS ask is "can I say hello?" or something similar when I see a dog with a person, especially for a service dog. I know that for a service dog the answer will usually be "nope, dog's working" and I accept that as an answer. When -I- ask if it's ok to say hello or pet the dog, I'm not trying to be rude. I really mean the question in a nice polite way. It's hard enough for me to engage in social interaction, sometimes. Seeing a dog and asking that is one way to make it easier for me. My doctor suggested I look into getting an emotional support animal. I know that's not the same thing as a full-blown service dog. If you or anyone else has a suggestion on how to go about finding the right dog, or looking into getting a service dog, that would be appreciated.
One you could add is the "hilarious" people who whistle, call, or (worse) BARK at my dog.... They think they are sooooo clever but they look like morons.......
Love it! I have a Medical Alert Service dog and I get so much of this stuff all the time. "You don't *look* disabled." I get that one all the time. I am always about half inclined to respond; "And you don't look like an idiot. Yep! You fooled me!" Of course, I don't say that, but there are some days when I just, heaven forbid, want to go to the store and pick up a gallon of milk without having to respond to 101 stupid comments/questions.
People do some really stupid things to service dog handlers. It's unbelievable! But it's much funnier when you put it this way! I have actually had someone wave their hand in my face thinking I was blind, and I have kids come up all the time and try to take my dog from me - which is weird...
Ima make flashcards with pre planned answers and grab em anytime someone walks up to me and asks one of these stupid questions. "i heard autistics dont have sex" "no, autistics have all the sex thats why you arent getting any"
My autism service animal is a lizard...specifically a bearded dragon. Never ran into any questions like this but if I did encounter someone like at 0:35. I'd respond with, "Why do YOU get to go out in public?"
As of March 2011, only dogs and mini horses can be a service animals. Reptiles are not permitted. Http://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm You also do not have public access rights with this reptile (you can't go in stores where animals are not permitted) And since it cannot be task trained, is could never seriously be a service animal. If you keep bringing it in public places saying it's a service animal, you could be charged with federal fraud and face high fines, jail time and they'll take your pet away - perminantly.

I'm on the spectrum as well and I've come across your videos after researching into service dogs. I'm so happy to see others like myself have success with service dogs. My psychiatrist is on board with the idea as well. It's just going to be a long process and it may have to wait for another whole year until I move. Thank you for your videos though, it has been helpful and inspiring. :)
+Hipster Doge +Oak Croft Films Inspiring in a non-'inspiration porny' way! :D I've watched this video many times now and it still makes me laugh out loud.
Just watched your video & LOVED IT!!!!!!! I have a service animal named Boudica & we hear a lot of that crap from (well meaning, but mistaken) folks too out in public. I can identify with soooo much of what you covered. My best friend (for over 20 years) Bruce (who is autistic) watched your video & said it was effectively done ... good that it touches on autism as well as issues concerning service animals. Bravo. Keep the videos coming.
1. I had to look away at 1:45. Suddenly, eyes. o.O 2. 3:12 made me laugh really hard. 3. I've heard SO many of these. >__< No. I am not a 'person with autism' I am Autistic. 4. I honestly didn't know that there were service dogs for Autistic people. That's really cool, and it makes me wish I had been educated about Autism more when I was younger, instead of one of my parents throwing a fit because they didn't want an autistic child, so the autism conversation was dropped, and I was told to deal with it.
Great video! I love how you have them keep asking "Is she in training?" I can't tell you how many times I've heard that! I have all those points down perfect. Well done!
Thank you for showing your desk and its surroundings. Ah, yes. Executive function... Not something I do well with myself. Don't visit my place. Just don't. 8)
Add screams from children / young adults and parents trying to pry their little kids off your service dog. Also add (for me) what kind of dog is that? Also add, "does s/he save people?" "Whats your dogs name" "S/he is so well behaved" "s/he looks like she loves you" "does s/he protect you?" Add random strangers touching you because you aren't responding to verbal calling from and aren't facing them only to nearly go into a flash back and attack them. (they think I'm blind) Add "How old is s/he" "Is s/he a service dog" "Can I pet him/her" "Is it a he or she"( Its a dog!! Why do people care and why is it so hard for instance for you to call me a male even if I do not look like one. No one asks me what gender I am.. Well I'm sorry I don't ID as the birthed gender. Sometimes this question gets to me.) "Is she in Training?"
With my girl, other than "Is that a service dog?", all I ever really get asked is "Can I pet her?" and sometimes "is she still in training?". But people still just walk up and pet without asking. I mean, if they ask nicely, I don't generally mind letting them pet her head for a second and letting her say hi (it makes her happy, and when she's happy she listens better), but dear lord so few people have manners anymore.
I am not on the spectrum myself but do have friends who are and I can somehow relate to what is said here. It's great you take a humorous take on the situation. I know some of these can come out quite offensive. Cheers!
What kind of gear do you have for her? My autism service dog has a Julius K9 vest in Red with the patches "Service Dog DO NOT DISTRACT". He is a yellow Labrador
Oak Croft Films really? I wander why... I might not have a service dog, but I don't know why people say shit like that, I mean come on people show some respect to service dogs and their owners
Your cute and I'm glad that you have the dog to help you out:) what a sweet looking dog. I'm going to be getting one for my invisible disability. He is a Saint Bernard and has already started doing tasks that I would need him to do. Your video was awesome keep it up
Great video. I get some of these when I take my SDiT out in public. Especially the first one... "I'm not supposed to pet you but you're sooooooo cute!"
Very nice vidéo! People can really say stupid thing! And the "you are a person with autism! You are not an autistic person!"...that one....Always comes out of a non-autistic person. I never understand why they think they should decide for us how we should call ourselves! I don't know, it's a bit like if a man was stating to a woman "You are a person with feminity! You are not a female person!"...what the hell???
I train autism service dogs for a living and sadly I get all this too. I did a video about this as well, but in a trainer perspective. This video is my favorite though. Especially its interesting that so many people ask you if your dog is "in training" maybe because you don't look disabled... which is something I get a lot as a trainer. "You must be a trainer because you don't look disabled" like I have to be in a wheelchair to have a service dog... UGH! My number one thing as a trainer is to educate because I want people to know there are service dogs for invisible disabilities. I feel the only reason all this is such an issue is because people have no idea there is such a thing as a service dog or autism service dog and mainly the protocol. I was in CVS the other day and a lady had no idea she wasn't supposed to distract a service dog while working so I explained to her... but every so often I do get the "I know I am not supposed to pet you" -pets my dog- but I think most of it is people being uneducated.
I think this was really, really funny! I'm autistic and I can relate to a lot of these, except for the ones regarding your dog, because I don't have one yet, but am in the process. Looking forward to hearing most of this...NOT. Good video anyways!
I LOVE THIS. AS a late diagnosed Aspie (56yrs, now), with two ASD boys, and a wife with epilepsy and a service dog..... Let me tell you this is SO TRUE!!!!! We had some free cards made with the pup's picture and an explanation, because we got so tired of this idiocy.. :) VERY well done! BTW, my faves are the "You must be really high functioning", and the amazed stare *D-O-G!*.... :)
love your video my son Has ASD he is 20 But all he wants to do is stay in his room and play video game. and we love 25 minutes fro the nearest town. so there are no programs where we live
***** It's highly recommended that you get professionals involved, especially if you've never done anything like this even in training a pet dog before. That way you can find a dog with the best disposition for your needs and tailor their training for what tasks they'll be asked to do. That's the most important thing that designates a service dog from an emotional support dog: service dogs do specific tasks for their person. There's plenty of organizations and trainers out there eager to help people, so definitely look around!
I'm guilty of the first one, haha. I've occasionally walked up to dogs, about to say hello and ask if I can pet them when I see the vest, so I just say to the dog "Hi there, I'm not supposed to pet you, but you're very cute." and I smile and walk away.
Oak Croft Films dude I just got harassed at Wendy's with my service dog. ...they tried to kick us out cause she was not marked. it was 100° out side..I live in fl...I didn't want her to over heat so that's what I told her and she rolled her eyes and gave me and my 5 year old sister crappy service ...
I've gotten almost every one of those and had to back up repeatedly as I was laughing so hard. I'm in a high functioning quadriplegic in a manual 'chair being pulled by my service dog and get asked if I'm training for another. Go figure.
I get can your dog sit or do other tricks can I make her sit* I also get the is your dog one of those blind dogs? Why do you have a dog in the store* Awwwwwwww you're not supposed to have dogs in here* Why do you have a dog? you're not blind*
Oak Croft Films, do you know if it matter where on the autism spectrum you are on, in order to get a service dog? I have had people look at me and tell me that I am not autistic. I actually had one of my neighbors tell me that today when I was visiting her.
You don't need to be solely Austistic in order to have a Service Dog. If you have a disability that interferes with your ability to perform everyday tasks, and a Service Dog can be trained tasks to mitigate that disability, then you qualify for a Service Dog. More of this can be found on the ADA.
Oak Croft Films, I just got my service dog Olaf a month ago, I have gotten 90% of this video said to me he helps with my autism, severe anxiety and no insolvable epilepsy. Olaf is a white boxer so he draws attention everywhere I go which gives me anxiety I don't like to be in big crowds we recently went to Disneyworld with him and I was a nightmare though he did alert to 7-13 seizures whilst there so very much appreciated to have him he is so loyal and loves me more than anyone else in the family I love hi to pieces Whats your dogs name?, he is beautiful if not he than she
People do the “I shouldn’t pet you!” One all the time to my dog... it’s so annoying. It’s like, uhh yeah, and you shouldn’t talk to them, yet here you are... I’ve also had the “is he in training” happen a lot and people ask me if I can train their dogs to be service dogs too. Also have gotten “is that a police dog?” And “does he bite?” And 0is he friendly?” A lot cause my dog is a Doberman. No... I just brought a vicious Doberman to the mall. Also get car horns blown at me a lot to see if the dog will spook.
It's hilarious because I've watched about three of these videos so far and they all independently say the same things! Some people are just stupid. I have autism, but most of the time I don't bother mentioning it because of comments like these.
Your room looks like the state mine is always in and it honestly makes me feel a little better. I only know other people with autism who fixate on organization. 💦💦 Sans dog, I get these same questions so much.....
Haha yeah. As if the not petting is about torturing everyone else. The reason you aren't suppose to pet is to not distract the dog. If you distract it anyway than you've missed the point! lol XD
I just had my autism test! In about a month or two, I will have my results. I do have tons of autistic traits. I might be autistic, but in probably dumb enough to ask some of these questions... Mainly about the puppy dog because I'm a crazy animal lover.
As someone who is trying to get a service dog for being autistic and having anxiety etc, I came here to be aware of things I will experience, but gosh this is so funny
The way you are portraying someone keeps repeating the same questions" Is she in training?" or" You are autistic?" is definitely accurate in the present. I understand that they are not often used to seeing people, aside from blindness or plainly walking with dogs, could have autism, which it is often frustrating to hear the same question repeatedly on an everyday basis.
I watched this at least 30 times (female with autism)! So funny😂 you are such a good actor🤩 my knees make noises when I bend them too😂😅 I am sorry for my english. I am german🤓 Greetings🤗
When mom tells people I have Aspberger's half of them make this face. it looks a mix of concern and indigestion. the others are cool. I am not defined by my disorder.
Oak Croft Films OMG ty for replying also I love surprising people by speaking different languages. If they speak Spanish I will speak Spanish back. I love their looks. also I am scared of most service dogs due to an incident where I dropped something in front of a service dog and attempted to pick it up. The dog let out this snarl which caused me to back away from the dog. Yeah....not a happy memory..
"IS SHE IN TRAINING??!!?" Dear god, too real.
I lost it when he went "sorry I thought you were blind".
This was great!
Oh my, the "I am going to steal you" I get all the time, and it sort of creeps me out!
It's Us. I have had that as well..
"IS SHE IN TRAINING?"😂😂😂
I'm a female with Aspergers and this made me laugh so hard OMG
Glad you liked it it was fun to make.
I can’t get enough of that 😂😂😂😂😂

I think there needs to be a bingo card with all of these. Would be a fun way to pass the time when out for a long day with my son and his autism service dog.
Nicole Ryan Thats a fun idea :)
Nicole Ryan so true lol
im autistic and have a service dog (rescue lab/pointer mix turned/trained service dog 2 yr old named lane) i might make some cards for these

"Is that a drug dog??" *runs away* 😅

😹😂
I laughed everytime you said "is she in training?" 😂
Allie Kaylor same haha
QUICK TRANSLATION FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW SPANISH: "¿Qué pasa con el perro?" = "What's up with the dog?"
Yep!
I dont have a service dog but all the ones about autism i can totally relate to including things such as "but youre a girl" and "youv grown out of it by now HAVNT YOU?!l
Glad you could relate thanks for watching!
This is way too true. Half of these I got this week alone. Finally, someone knows what my family and I are going through.
My son is autistic , and I got a service dog to help him. Not only does she do a WONDERFUL job, she is also a part of the family. Unfortunately, my son is just turned 7 years old. Yep it does. Sometimes it's healthier to just laugh.
Agreed ^_^
I loved how the location kept changing!

Yeah the last thing on this video is something that has happened at least three times.
Wow. Seriously? That just makes the manners point clear. Who in their right mind would do that?
Lot of people out there I guess.
I don't...I get too nervous to say anything...I don't handle confrontation very well.
I usually say, "It be better if you don't distract her." It's a relatively non-confrontational way of getting the point across.
I am not on the spectrum myself but do have friends who are and I can somehow relate to what is said here. It's great you take a humorous take on the situation. I know some of these can come out quite offensive. Cheers!
I want a service dog for my autism. i have bad anxiety. And I could use one about now
I mean I would say that it is worth looking into.
What kind of gear do you have for her? My autism service dog has a Julius K9 vest in Red with the patches "Service Dog DO NOT DISTRACT". He is a yellow Labrador
It's a relatively simply looking green vest with a "Please don't pet me I'm working" sign on it.
I died at "oh im sorry I thought you were blind" xD
"can I finish peeing first?" LMAO
Lol thanks! That has actually happened.
Oak Croft Films really? I wander why... I might not have a service dog, but I don't know why people say shit like that, I mean come on people show some respect to service dogs and their owners

This was very funny and creative. I enjoyed it very much. I'm waiting for my service dog, hopefully in the spring (fingers crossed!)

Phoebe Buffay I know, right? It would be like a non-Asian telling me I am a person of Asian descent, not a Japanese-American.
Love your video made me laugh so much I have a lot of friends with service dogs so they get how do you feel but love your video.🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😁👍👍👍
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it.
This made me laugh so hard. It's very relatable! Thanks for making this video! You did a great job! Keep it up, and keep shining, you're awesome.
MrsLilreader Thanks glad you liked it!
Haha thanks!
"Can I pet your dog?"
... No it just says 'do not pet' fo no reason.
People always ask :/
They never read
love your video my son Has ASD he is 20 But all he wants to do is stay in his room and play video game. and we love 25 minutes fro the nearest town. so there are no programs where we live
I get the same questions with my service dog too.
"You must be really high functioning" oh my god I'm crying. I feel this so hard. I love this hfhgdfhfhjfhfs
I saw this in a SD facebook group and just subscribed to your channel. I'm so happy I found you tbh. I already love everything you post.
Thanks! Welcome to the channel! Hope you enjoy future content!
You're such a great comedian
Too funny and all too true! I can pretty much use this as a checklist when I go out with my service dog.
"i heard autistics dont have sex" OMG DIED AT THAT PART
Oh my gosh I'm laughing so hard.
Glad you liked it!
I'm guilty of the first one, haha.
I've occasionally walked up to dogs, about to say hello and ask if I can pet them when I see the vest, so I just say to the dog "Hi there, I'm not supposed to pet you, but you're very cute." and I smile and walk away.
When people tell me i dont look autistic i ask them if theyd like me to drool for them. That gets a fucking wonderful reaction 😂
Yep. I've gotten most of these at least once a week from the time I received my girl till today
Yeah me too!
"IS SHE IN TRAINING?" 😂 lmaoo
Is it insane that I still am laughing at this six years after you posted
"autistics don't have sex" - i freaking died xD
Yep actually heard that one.
Wow ppl really have no boundaries lol I've herd weird stuff but not like that
The sad part is that it was even a professional in the field of psychology.
Vests are not required. They had no right.
OMG you know the struggle!!! Love this video is really life not for my imaginary dog but for me!
Glad you could relate :).
SO. FRICKING. TRUE. 😂😂😂
Haha glad you could relate!
I've gotten almost every one of those and had to back up repeatedly as I was laughing so hard. I'm in a high functioning quadriplegic in a manual 'chair being pulled by my service dog and get asked if I'm training for another. Go figure.
Oh man lol.
I get can your dog sit or do other tricks can I make her sit*
I also get the is your dog one of those blind dogs?
Why do you have a dog in the store*
Awwwwwwww you're not supposed to have dogs in here*
Why do you have a dog? you're not blind*
Honestly soooo accurate!
Yep!
Oak Croft Films, do you know if it matter where on the autism spectrum you are on, in order to get a service dog? I have had people look at me and tell me that I am not autistic. I actually had one of my neighbors tell me that today when I was visiting her.
+Amy Sparkes It Doesn't People think I'm not autistic all the time.
Ok. Awesome
You don't need to be solely Austistic in order to have a Service Dog. If you have a disability that interferes with your ability to perform everyday tasks, and a Service Dog can be trained tasks to mitigate that disability, then you qualify for a Service Dog. More of this can be found on the ADA.
Thank you.
Oak Croft Films, I just got my service dog Olaf a month ago, I have gotten 90% of this video said to me he helps with my autism, severe anxiety and no insolvable epilepsy. Olaf is a white boxer so he draws attention everywhere I go which gives me anxiety I don't like to be in big crowds we recently went to Disneyworld with him and I was a nightmare though he did alert to 7-13 seizures whilst there so very much appreciated to have him he is so loyal and loves me more than anyone else in the family I love hi to pieces Whats your dogs name?, he is beautiful if not he than she
I love how your dog seems like she is so done with everything 😂
"what does it do?" is one i get allll the time.
Is he in training?
WereCreed First off, she’s a girl. Down with the patriarchy. (If you get this reference I will give you a cookie!)
Love it! Thank you....Is She in training?!
At times, you wish to say" Let me be and leave me the hell alone."
Yeah. I never do though :/.
Absolutely adore this video! This was a good way of looking at annoying situations!😂
I've never gotten the car horns. That would really piss me off.
It's hilarious because I've watched about three of these videos so far and they all independently say the same things! Some people are just stupid. I have autism, but most of the time I don't bother mentioning it because of comments like these.
the shade is so thick!!! ILY
I tried :P
The dog can stay, but you got to go! 🤣🤣🤣 I have heard most of these but that one!
Your room looks like the state mine is always in and it honestly makes me feel a little better. I only know other people with autism who fixate on organization. 💦💦
Sans dog, I get these same questions so much.....
Ha thanks for watching. Glad you could relate.
When you said "why arent you looking me in the eye" and got really close i looked away because i was uncomfortable
I have autism and PTSD and such and I honestly couldn't do a video like this way to embarrassed
ive goten like half of this shit 😂
Oml. I'm dead XD
That first one happens so freaking often it's insane!!!
And I just want to strangle ppl (not for real) sometimes like whyyyy
Haha yeah. As if the not petting is about torturing everyone else. The reason you aren't suppose to pet is to not distract the dog. If you distract it anyway than you've missed the point! lol XD
I have an autism service dog as well. And man does this hit the nail on the head.
**goes to patch the head shaped hole in the wall**
This is beautiful! I struggle with many similar comments
Glad you could relate. Thank you!
Nathan Selove the worst one personally, is when the person reads the vest, and continues to pet him
This was great! I love your videos. Ive heard alot of those
Thanks!
I just had my autism test! In about a month or two, I will have my results. I do have tons of autistic traits. I might be autistic, but in probably dumb enough to ask some of these questions... Mainly about the puppy dog because I'm a crazy animal lover.
I don't necessarily mind questions. Sometimes it's the repetition of them thought.
@@OakCroftFilms I just got my diagnosis: Mild to Moderate Autism! I'm autistic!
As someone who is trying to get a service dog for being autistic and having anxiety etc, I came here to be aware of things I will experience, but gosh this is so funny
I love this video allot! Currently awaiting my PTSD dog :)
I am also autistic
Cool!
Nathan Selove why thank you, and I enjoyed your video
Thank you for watching :)
Nathan Selove no problem
Oh god, I can't stop laughing. This was so good! XD
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah it does get old.
Yeaahhhh
Oak Croft Films OMG ty for replying also I love surprising people by speaking different languages. If they speak Spanish I will speak Spanish back. I love their looks. also I am scared of most service dogs due to an incident where I dropped something in front of a service dog and attempted to pick it up. The dog let out this snarl which caused me to back away from the dog. Yeah....not a happy memory..
Service dogs are not allowed to show any signs of aggression. So either the service dog had a crap owner or it was fake.
That shouldn't have happened to you, I am sorry. Again the training for service dogs is rigorous and not every dog is fit for being a service dog.
