im so sorry for these type of people, i own a service dog myself and it is very horrible because of the AMOUNTS of people spreading misinformation about it
When she mentioned having a "card from my doctor, oh not my doctor my vet, a card from the VET" i was dying with laughter. Since when is a veterinarian qualified to say that a person has a disability that would be helped by them having a service dog? According to the ADA you don't need any form of information stating your dog is a service dog, they do need to be required to be task trained to help with your disability. You were right to stand up for yourself. I loved how calm you and your mother both stayed and that your mother came in and asked for a refund because clearly these people were being idiots. Depending on the state you live in, you also are not required to tell them that you have a service dog with you. My kids and I stayed in multiple hotels/motels and my oldest has a service dog. We did not have to disclose at all that we had a service dog with us, and they would see my daughter taking her dog out to the bathroom and never said a word to her about it.
The only thing I could really think of is a note from your doctor stating your disability and how a service dog would benefit you. It’s illegal for any public place to ask for this. I’m like, what vet??? 😅
I know of 3 people right off hand that have "service animals" for no reason, so it's understandable why people question people at times. It is a real issue. Not saying anything anything about your personal situation, but in general the whole "support animal" situation has gotten out of control by people abusing it and ruining it for those who really benefit from a service/support of some type.
No, not only were you not in the wrong, but make sure to file a report about the incident and the business. You are very softly-spoken, and that's not a problem, but because of that, I believe they essentially bullied you out of the establishment. You weren't loud or confident enough to really assert yourself. There will always be people like that when it comes to service dogs - speak up and know that what you are doing is right. You were not at fault, and what they did was illegal. Also, you don't need proof and you DO NOT HAVE TO say what your disability is at all unless they are medical staff or some member of the authorities.
Sorry they gave you such a hard time and I think it’s one most difficult public interactions to deal with when employees have rules by their employers that they are so short or correct without any knowledge of the federal law. Especially like in the case of the first hotel when they themselves say they have a service dog but then go on to say something so contradictory do what the actual laws are that becomes clear clear they probably are following a scam/fake website without even realizing it. Also, it drive me up the wall when people act like just because your dog looks at a person/animal/objects whatever or something or do something else they think it’s not service dog like it means they are not legitimate. Dogs are dogs they’re living breathing beings who need to take in their environment and many service dogs wouldn’t be able to do the job if they weren’t also able to be aware of what’s going on around them.
Where were you so I can avoid it like the plague? 😮 So rude and knows nothing of the laws! 😢 I hope you left a review so other SD owners can avoid them too.
@@sageypoo456I will have to track down that other video! Here where I am it's backwards I guess. Everyone loves dogs . I have had to train my service dog that not every service counter has a treat behind it. Everyone asks to pet your dog. They all love SD and it's too lax. I guess I won't take.it.for.granted! Sending you love! 💌💜 🥰❤️💗💓💞♥️💌
I'd also recommend carrying a print off of ADA FAQ or some simple law cards, sometimes it helps. Probably not in the first hotel as they seem set in their beliefs.
yes we have done this. here in Australia were very behind on information. i have a service dog who is trained for cardiac and anxiety + to bring me my medication when i cant move. we carry DDA cards on us to be safe but because hes under the DDA i also have to legally provide proof that he is a service dog by providing a doctors letter and his training certificates...this is what is required in Australia unless you go through the dog and cat management board (which we will eventually) where they will give you a card for your service dog like a license....if this had of happened in Australia then technically the first hotel lady would have been correct but its incorrect for america
@@hayleypaigereviews6744in my country is similar! They give you a ID or card type of thing when you provide the said documentation: vet saying the pup is healthy, your ID and certificate that the dog has completed training! 🥲

@@sageypoo456 That's what I'm saying. And technically even a note from a doctor for a service dog is mainly for housing issues, not public access.
I’m genuinely sorry for you. What happened is downright awful 😢
Hopefully yall are doing better

OHHHHHHH HELLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOO I WOULDA CALLED THE COPS
think all handlers would love to know where to avoid these places. me being one. they need to be reported for trying to break the law.
I did report them to the BBB, but there’s nothing they can do about it if the business doesn’t want to 🤷♀️
