There's a huge difference between a leader and a manager. I learned that leadership skills are not a requirement to be in management. I've been a manager and I learned that I was a way better leader than a manager.
There is tension because Mgmt has pressure from their superiors of unrealistic expectations & craft gets tired, worn and angry with the every day games. Get some thick skin, keep your cool, it’s not personal. Know your rights! Read the M41 Carriers Duties & Responsibilities.
Whats crazy is out of all of the stations here, our station is said to have the best manager. She's sweet, doesnt talk AT folks, and has years of carrier experience. The supevisors are newer, younger girls that are incompetent and have attitudes out this world. So easy to see who is capable and who isnt.
Former CCA here. Can remember basically daily shouting matches, insults, threats, and whatever between management and other more senior carriers in my office. Was a wild time. Don't miss it one bit. 😂
Except in the post office none of tge good workers who know their craft want nothing to do with management. Management is a failed craft employee that couldn't hack it as a craft employee who wants to sit in a AC office.
Many of the Post Masters/Supervisors were NOT carriers, they were clerks. So a lot of us think they don't understand. I don't pay attention to it. Go in, do your job, go home. We aren't there that long in the station. Everyone stay safe out there, carriers.
Hey question for you…..so I became a regular on a city route and we had a new development be made and it was original in my edit book per previous postmaster . Rural somehow got it on there edit books and delivered mail for 2 months. I make my union steward file a grievance to get back that territory. Long story short we won the grievance. Management brought it to arbitration bc rural grieved it and they won. So I’m stuck between a confusing situations and can’t trust anyone or get the correct info. Who should get that territory. I thought a while ago I found in the contract that rural could never take territory from city?
The biggest problem at USPS is that they do not train new managers on the contract. All they teach them are the things that lead to thier "performance" bonuses. Managements goals are not compatible with the contract. They also are not accountable for grievance costs. The money spent on grievances should come off the top of the bonus program for them. Most supervisors I worked with were not bad people, but they were in a bad position. All the responsibilty with no real authority to make decisions. That won't change anytime soon. As Nick says, make your $$ and go home. For the record, I served all positions in our local for over 20 years. It does get aggravating. K beck

One of the wisest things I’ve heard regarding successful management is, “you manage stuff, and lead people.” Not the other way around.

I believe it
The word is out Nick:
"USPS isn't going to be handle Election mail-in voting volumes, expect issues"
It's going to be a disaster

I've seen a few good carriers go into management because their body is beat up but not many
I have eleven years at the post office and I can count the "good" suoervisors on three fingers. We've had maybe a hundred in and out during that time.
😂

My pm was a carrier for the same office, was piss poor, so they know exactly what we deal with, just don’t care.

If you won the grievance sounds like it should be yours
