I very much appreciated this. I have been trying to learn guitar for about 2 years. But I have only REALLY been trying and following yourself and your lessons for the last year. And I’m getting discouraged how after ALL my effort I’m not really improving much. You very much highlighted how my REALLY trying isn’t comparatively trying at all. And my lack of growth isn’t my incompetence but just a matter of more time required.

Bit late to the party, but I'm loving these vids, so interesting. I've been learning the guitar forever, but never seem to get anywhere. Found Justin's website almost by accident a couple of months ago and have been blown away. I have learnt so much and can now play stuff I only have dreamt about before. I've been so impressed I bought a load of books and can now play quite a few songs. I don't donate to Justin's site, but I definitely will next.year, when money is a bit easier. I just hope I can donate enough, but how do you measure enough when someone brings such joy to your life. Oh, and as a fellow mad dog owner, my dog used to love eating horse poo as well!
You can take the man from the outback but not the outback from the man, loving these. Great couple of inspirational biography’s Justin. Look fwd to the receding and bald years. If I every hear of any youngsters who want to seriously play, I will definitely encourage them to watch these two. I’m not a believer in ‘gifted’ talent but believe if you look at anyone at the top of their chosen field they’ve got there through a lot of hard work and effort and the chance coming together of inspirational family/friends and teachers/coaches along the way. If they aren’t available seek them out. That’s why this platform is so good, it’s opened those benefits up to so many. When there are people like yourself dedicated to share your wide breathe of knowledge and skill with learners the world can only be a better place for it. Me, I’m a mid 50 something that’s had a beginner acoustic sitting in a cupboard for ten years never having had a note played on it. That has now changed since coming across your vids a couple of months back. Only just finished the first stage and now been stuck on the dreaded f chord, but hopefully that’ll come with effort. I know I’m too old to ever be a great guitarist but if I can get to a level where I could busk one day for a hour I’d die a happy man. Hey Justin. I really enjoy these videos and getting to learn about you as a person.I am 56 years old and started trying to learn guitar a few years ago. I can play a few riffs and intros but that is about it. I am planning to really buckle down and start practicing a lot following your lessons. I watched a video of yours the other day and you were talking about how people jump around constantly and never stick with any one thing and learn it. You described me exactly, I am always going from one thing to the other and not practicing any one thing enough. as you said a lot of people spend a lot more time jumping around on the web instead of practicing. That is my problem. I have definately learned a lot about gear but not much about playing. Thanks so much for lessons, I am going to really put in a great effort to learn a lot this year. I can highly recommend following the beginners course from start to finish. I am the same age as you and has some lessons in the past but the beginners course is terrific. Get the spiral bound course book and the song book both make life much easier. And there is content in the book (level 9) that isn't on the web.
Im 65, not played a guitar for forty years, even basic stuff back then, and have been following Justins lessons for a year, three hours a day and he is amazing, Im at the end of the intermediate now, and about to start the Blues course. My advice, follow Justin to the letter, don't go off Piste with all the other stuff on the internet, Justin will get you there, buy his books, contribute if you can, the guy is a Master. Good luck and hard practice.

Paul - Same age. Been playing for 5 years. What you've described is common. The great thing about UA-cam is there is a wealth of info. The bad think is that there is a wealth of info...and it's easy to bounce. Justin's website is better than his UA-cam, simply because it is laid out in order. There are also recommended practice routines/exercises and charts. Don't misunderstand - his YT is wonderful. But, I've experienced what you are going through as well. Log onto his site. After 1.5 years of "YT-hopping" I hit Justinguitar.com and started from episode 1 in the beginners course. Everything took off from there. After Beginners, there is Intermediate, Blues, Jazz, etc. All laid out with practice routines. Could not recommend it more highly for your current position. Good luck. Now, if I could just get my fingers an nimble as they were when I was 16, I'd be set :-)

Justin, Your advice is 100% correct, and that was an excellent story. I really enjoyed it. Music is not an easy road by any means. It's not like engineering where you can simply ride your grades into a successful career. Music is so much more, but how you are judged by peers or potential employers is so subjective that education and experience can become meaningless. The guy who never even took a lesson may be the one who comes out on top. Or not... You just never know. That's why we do it, but it's also why we fail....if that makes any sense. What I try to keep in mind is that we all love the same thing. Music is it's own reward.
Well. I am humbled. Very good story. You certainly have lived an enriched life with obviously more years to come. I admire your dedication. I’ve always had the ability but never the drive to see my dreams come to fruition. My hats off to you.

Did I hear him right? 8 hrs practice daily!! And I thought 1hr a day was a lot, oh well maybe that’s why I pretty much suck playing guitar! But I have fun doing it. I’m a Rockstar in my mind for 1 hr a day and it’s the most enjoying hour of the day!!🎸🤩
@@justinguitar well it was worth it. I am aiming for an hour a day as I progress from beginners to intermediate. Plus some theory work too. I don't feel like I progress well enough with less time than that.
Hi Justin. It's been really interesting hearing your story. I guess we're a similar age, I was at high school in the 80s here in England. I started learning on a nylon-stringed guitar at age 10 in my last few months of junior school, and then I didn't start again until age 19 when I got a Squire strat and little practice amp, Nirvana was the big new thing at the time but I was also a huge AC/DC fan, I bought a Gibson Les Paul studio a year later. I got my SG standard and a Marshall JCM DSL at age 30 and that's been my main setup since then :) Thanks for your great videos mate, cheers from the UK 👍🏻
Hi Justin You seem to have been lucky to always meet good people at the right time in your development. Maybe it's not luck but rather good judgement on your part. Lots of people I know were not so lucky, became disheartened and gave up the dream of being a professional guitarist because of bad experiences, it still bothers them 30 years later when they've had a few drinks! Do you have advise for young people in that situation today (it's too late for my friends, too bitter, twisted and overweight!). These walking videos are great, keep them coming.

Birds do benefit from the edge condition between meadow and forest so you're probably right about the clearings being created for bird life. The meadow plants bring insects that would otherwise not be in a forest environment. Great stories, thanks Justin.

I thought I recogonised those woods! Used to live in Farnham for about 3 years, went to the university there 10 years ago. I live in Sweden now though, bit of a difference - woods are bigger that's for sure! I must visit again someday. Lovely town. I think they also filmed part of Harry Potter, Gladiator and some James Bond stuff there too. Anyway, back to my Grade 1 Lesson 2 practice routine for the evening! :P Thanks Justin! :D

You seem to have been lucky to always meet good people at the right time in your development. Maybe it's not luck but rather good judgement on your part.
Lots of people I know were not so lucky, became disheartened and gave up the dream of being a professional guitarist because of bad experiences, it still bothers them 30 years later when they've had a few drinks!
Do you have advise for young people in that situation today (it's too late for my friends, too bitter, twisted and overweight!).

Birds do benefit from the edge condition between meadow and forest so you're probably right about the clearings being created for bird life. The meadow plants bring insects that would otherwise not be in a forest environment. Great stories, thanks Justin.

I just watched Part 1 and 2 of this series. Cool stories! Did you do another part of it? I can't find it...
I thought I recogonised those woods! Used to live in Farnham for about 3 years, went to the university there 10 years ago.
I live in Sweden now though, bit of a difference - woods are bigger that's for sure! I must visit again someday. Lovely town. I think they also filmed part of Harry Potter, Gladiator and some James Bond stuff there too.
Anyway, back to my Grade 1 Lesson 2 practice routine for the evening! :P Thanks Justin! :D

A bit late to the party with this comment. Wendy - I'm guessing is Wendy Moles - Great singer, lives around the corner from me. Kim Cambridge was my guitar teacher in 1979/80. Both played in a local indie band - MrX. Kim still plays around the traps in a couple of bands. Also lives around the corner from me. I guess that's Tasmania for you - lol

It's an expensive one - but I used to do a lot of Alpine climbing and when you stuck belaying someone on a multi pitch climb, you need to stay warm!
@@JustinGuitarSongs You have to have to right tools my friend, especially for Alpine climbing. Or, for playing guitar for that matter. ;)
