I can't believe I'm only finding out about your channel now. You are crushing it! Subbed
Awesome! Thank you! :D
This a year old video helps me a lot to make a decision of my video light. I really appreciate it. Love ya!
Glad I could help!
Wow, your filming quality is straight up amazing! I bow to you sister. 👍
Very kind of you! :D
Nice review! Before buying lights, I think people need to pick a brand. Having one remote (or app) to control all lights is a very important feature for any multi-light setup.
Godox and Aputure are both great options when it comes to having a good variety of lights to add to your arsenal. I'm actually going with Godox because of their photo flash options. My low budget starter set of Yongnuo lights all used the same app and remote, but they lack the high powered bowens mount lights that a filmmaker would need for larger productions.
For sure, each filmmaker has different needs/wants and preferences. :) I'm happy to hear you're finding some things you like.
When you said "this is not a technical review" I instantly thought of Gerald, and then you mentioned him. xD
Great production quality and presentation for a channel of your size btw, I'll explore your other videos. :)
Haha,, well thank you very much!!
Gerald is hugely popular for gear reviews, isn't he?
yes.. the love the use of colors and contrast in the background. So the main light on your face... The whole setup is so good.. Kudos to you for that. The product shots and lighting 👌🏻👌🏻. There are a lot of small things u have taken care of.. which make your production quality and presentation too good. You are definitely gonna grow.. and fast 😊🙏🏻
Thank you so much!
Yes he is :D
Well done! I've had the Aputure 120D II for over a year now and wanted to add more lights. When I saw Gerald's comparison videos of the VL series, I pulled the trigger on the VL200 since Adorama had an instant rebate deal going on knocking down the $549 price tag down to $419 (almost the price of the VL150). To me, it was a no-brainer. If they ever run an instant rebate deal for the VL300, I'll get it in a heartbeat.
That's a nice deal you got! The VL300 is great! :D
I ordered two VL200 lights from B&H and had them shipped to me here in Japan. Thankfully, the bozos in the shipping department goofed up and sent me two VL300 lights instead😅😎Lucky!🎉
Once again, your insert shots are 🔥🔥🔥
Great work!
Thank you so much 😀
I'm glad I ran into your channel, great quality content, full with info but not tiring, the rythm helps to keep up. And I really appreciate the round up with pros and cons. Greetings from Mexico, subscribed!
Awesome, thank you! So glad to have you :D
Hope this blows up, very good and informative video :). Thank you Fellow Filmmaker :))
I hope so too! Thank you!
Two serious looking lights! Thanks for the review!
You bet!
WOW, very nice review, clear, direct, and honest. Great way to do the comparison
Much appreciated!
This channel deserves sooo much more subscribers. Very pro content!!!
I appreciate that!
I watched and subscribed yesterday and you were at 5.06k subscribers. You’re at 5.1k today. YOU ARE BLOWING UP!!!!!!
Super fun, right?! I'm excited to see how it continues to grow, thanks to many folks like you subscribing :)
@@FellowFilmmaker some day I can say, “She responded to my comments way back when she was below 1 million subscribers! Heck even before she was at 100k subs!”
Hahaha! :D I think I'd still try even then, but who knows, right? :p
Stoked to find your channel. Yay thanks! :)
Glad to have you! :D
Nice comparison!
Thank you!
..just found exactly a review about those two lights i ve been searching for sometime ....Thank you sweetheart 🙏
Glad I could help
very thoughtful & thorough review/comparison 😊
Thank you! 🙂
Great Review Heather! I was just about to purchase some Godox lighting. This helped clarify my decision .
Glad it was helpful! And thanks for watching!
@@FellowFilmmaker do you have any plans to review Godox flexible lights?
I have not at this time, unless there is a big demand for it I might consider it
@@spector175 she did some new lighting review for the long sticks , those might work also ..
Nice work! Great video, informative, and a topic many of us were wondering about. Well done.
Thank you!
Yep... this is another super video! And the Aputure 300 just might be my next light. Thank you for all the details.
Thanks for doing this review! Super appreciated. Really nice work.
My pleasure! And thank you!
Wow how do you have so few subs. Great quality content - and very informative. Seriously great content keep it up!! It'll pay off!
Thank you very much! The subscribers will come, I'm sure! :D
Great informative video with high quality production. You definitely deserve more subs!
I appreciate that!
Thank you for this review!
My pleasure!
Hey! Thanks for commenting on my video the other day. A friend randomly saw your comment as well and messaged me saying I should really check the channel out! Needless to say, ive been sitting here binging a bunch of your videos haha. Your editing, pacing, structure, delivery and of course cinematography is all on point. Haha, that's funny how that works! Happy to hear you enjoy the work I'm doing. :D If you have some ideas for collaboration, either now or in the future, feel free to reach out! Amazing content and film quality, thanks!
Much appreciated!
Keep up the great work and congrats on 1k subs!
Thank you very much! It sure is an exciting first milestone :p
One of the best review! Simple and direct!
Appreciate that! :D
Nice video. One thing I noticed with the Aputure 300 D II that I recenty rented for a shooting job was that it comes with a separate power unit and in that unit there's a fan that is quite noisy. I was happy the thing came with extra long extension cords so we could put the power unit in a separate room. Otherwise the noise would have been very audible on the recording.
Yeah, that's one way they keep the fan noise on the actual light down
you right saving money is more important
thank you for this kind of review for the best video lights
i was looking for the best light for my vlog thats why im here and your content is big help for me
by the way you have great quality of video and i love your set up :)
Glad you liked it! And thank you very much! :D
Excellent reviews, I am very interested in technical reviews but I would not change a thing of your reviews. You encourage people to carry on with their films by vouching for a cheaper, not so known brand, congrats and keep it up.
I appreciate that! :D
Great information and pretty well made video! Congrats! You should have more subscribers, this is a high quality channel.
Thanks! 👍
Man... this channel is so underrated
:D
um, where the hell you been hiding!? i needed this video so bad today, outstanding job!
Very happy to hear that! :D
Helpful video. Keep up the great work
Thanks, will do!
I watched this video from the beginning until the end. Its quite rare for me to do that. Great job👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope it helped you out :D
I had the SL and still use them despite the cheap build quality and rapid falloff of intensity. I wish LED's had the same rolloff as incandescent. I was debating between aputure and godox. Godox always seemed like the budget brand. Build quality, mounts, even accessories. But now their 150 and 300 are out and the price point seems good. Good review. Thanks for steering me
Glad I could help
Super awesome as always! Maybe a comparison on different light modifiers and led panels could also make it onto your list of up coming videos. Oh and maybe a BTS product video shoot!
Already excited for your next! :)
Good ideas! I will def. have to do one! I've got another lighting video in the works, so I can't wait to show that one soon! Thanks for all the support :D
Great channel first time I came across it so useful
Glad to hear it!
Based on your recommendation went for the VL300. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
This was quite useful, especially the heat note.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for all the great videos you do. Really appreciated :-) I know this is an old video, but it popped up in my view today and I had an idea... I think it would be interesting to see you compare a high end light like these with the smaller budget lights like Nanlite LitoLite (if you haven't already). I'm not so sure that when modified through a Softbox or umbrella that you'd see the clear difference. But of course there are differences in quality, sturdiness and so. A comparison on how they work on a real life situation with an interview shoot or vlog would be gold.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll have to give it some thought and see if it works :D
awesome! have been waiting for this comparison, excited to see the results!
Hope you like it!
It's always exciting to check what tools are out there!
So true! I love having the privilege in sharing about some of the tools I enjoy using :) So glad to have folks like you along for the ride!
Our boi Gerald sure sold a LOT of these lights. I'm getting one myself :)
Haha, for sure! It was his video that convinced me I should get one :p
@@FellowFilmmaker You're video is also amazing 😊😊😊
Thank you very much! :D
@@FellowFilmmaker I was waiting for the Godox, meanwhile I saw what could the best of both world you were saying in the nanlight 300 which is for $ 750 now. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1476381-REG/nanlite_12_2001_forza_300_led_monolight.html
I use the Godox 60W for all my studio stuff as well. I am going to get the new versions of these lights with the soft box in the kit.
Nice! The VL series is great :D
Great review. You just earned a new subscriber. Nice work
Thanks for subbing :)
So refreshing to see a woman doing this review!!! Strong 👩 💪🏾
Thank you so much!! :D
Great info, Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this comparison. Subbed
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks for the info!
Any time!
The remote issue with under 10% actually works if your lights are at 5600K! You could go all the way down to 0% on the SL60Ws at that temperature
thanks for sharing
I'm definitely leaning towards the 300D, but great review!
The 300d is a great light! I really enjoyed the control box :D
Solid video. Was considering getting a 300d mk 2 for a related video I am working on (next month) on the godox VL300.. but I'm just going to point people to this one instead.
So kind of you to say and do! :D Both are some killer lights!
Excellent info.. Very helpful, thanks
You are most welcome!
Honestly I find the App to be the biggest pro for aperture lights, since it really unifies their lights from smaller MC to bigger lights are easily tweaked. Same goes with their fresnels(no leaks), even barndoors(it allows you to clip different color gels instead of pre made ones.) are better than any alternative on the market. Basically the best bowen mount accessories.
Agreed, the app is the best part! :D
Agree, the Aputure app is really nice. But for me I hate to mess around with my phone on set. I find that I waste more time that I save in trying to reconnect, deal with menus, etc. More often than not I just go to the light I want to change and just change it.
Do either of these come with batteries? Or are they only optional. And I haven't seen anyone speak about battery life either. Terrific review. Thanks! I'll check out this Gerald you spoke about, too.
They don't come with batteries, just the ability to be run on them. Thanks for watching!
Really nice video! I suscribe love your style.
Happy to hear that! And thank you☺️
Really helpful, thank you!
You're welcome!
Great video! Thank you!
You are welcome!
I have the Godox 60W and it’s okay but now I just ordered the Aputure 300dii for more output and color accuracy.
Nice! You won't be disappointed with the 300d2, it's a great light!
Amazing comparison! Beautiful presentation! Keep it up! Sub'ed!
Awesome, thank you!
I'm at this very point in my life right now.. Money in hand, which one to choose. Aputure 300D mark II or Godox VL300.. Thanks for this helpful review Ma'am.
Happy to help! It's a tough choice! I know I really liked the Aputure 30d mkii, but sometimes saving money is helpful too
What about Nanlite Forza 300 compared to these. I'm about to buy a combo for my studio setup too. The budget is around $2.000
I'm not familiar with that light personally, so I really can't speak to it. I'm sorry! But I'm hoping to get more into nanlite lights soon to see if they are worth investing in :D
How is it that she doesn't have more subscribers? Thanks for the review. Subbed.
Thanks for the sub! I'm sure many more will come! they just gotta find the channel in the sea of youtube
Your lighting is on point. 👍🏾
Oh thank you!
Really nice review. Really wanted to see what the colour shift between both lights were.
I considered trying to show that, but I didn't feel I could do it justice. The shift was there but not terrible. I felt they were pretty close to each other compared to the review I did on the Aputure 120d mk2 and Godox sl-60w
@@FellowFilmmaker Cool, thanks for the reply
Something to also bare in mind; COB lights with large chips will not allow you to create hard light/shadows like tungsten or equal output HMI because the chips have a much larger surface area than a filament would. It seems that the VL300 has a larger chip that the COB300, so that means softer shadows. Somehow this never gets mentioned. I guess no one goes for the old film noir esthetic anymore :(
Yeah, I'm sure folks care alot more about convenience at times
Great video! Hard to tell which, if either, is brighter.
Thanks for watching! :D They both are pretty great!
Quality review! I want the 300X!
Thank you! :D
Great review. Such a sea of lights out these days, this video was very helpful. Keep up the great work!
Glad it was helpful!
Beautiful review/comparison
Thank you!
Are the 2 lights similar in brightness? Or is one brighter than the other? not sure if you talked about that.
They both are a 300w light, so they are equal. :D
Thanks for this! Great to know what sets them apart. I wondered if next time you would consider putting the name of the item up with the Pros and Cons list as I lost track. Also the song that was looping for 8 minutes got a bit ear-wormy. Hope you don’t mind those thoughts! This was very helpful.
Thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind! :D
Great video! Just subscribed :)
Awesome! Thank you!
Sounds like it's Godox for the win. Thanks for the info.
No problem 👍 godox is great!
Stellar content! Thanks for your review! Have you used the Nanlite Forza 300 or 500? Curious what your thoughts are on it.
Thank you! I have not tried those lights, sorry!
Really great video! Your set lighting is excellent! Question, what brand is the long amber tube light you have on camera left? Thats not an Astera Titan? Thank you in advance!
Thank you! The light is this one: www.shoponova.com/products/minimal-floor-lamp
Great video and loved the additional insight at the end 👌 New sub here 👍
Thanks for the sub! :D
Great review! I was wondering, you say the tightening clamp on the Godox is easier for fine adjustment. How is it for large dome diffusers? Does it hold?
It holds very well! That's why I love it so much. I find on the Godox SL-60w for instance that it cannot hold a dome well at all and will often drift down, which I'm not a fan of.
I've seen in another review, it holds v well on a larger 90-inch light dome.
Good to know
Great Review!
Thank you very much!
Hi, thanks for your detailed review. For me personally it seems like the V300 is like the Aputure 300D MK1.
The knob on the sides with rubber between is more a disadvantage to me (was quite the same on the MK1) and its very fast used up and then you can‘t fasten it anymore.
The Aputure seems more reliable to me.
App compatability would solve the missing lcd at the remote maybe a bit. Dont know it the v300 has this.
Also the controller/dimmer on the v300 seems like the one at the aputure MK1 - would be interesting if they managed it better as aputure in the first version (there it was very difficult to put the vmounts off and on and sometimes didn‘t work that well even because you need big batteries to power them up)
I totally understand the price differences and i guess your good to go with both of them depending on your flexibility.
Agreed, it is a bit more like the mark 1... very hard to find those just laying around tho, haha! Everyone loves the mk 2, myself included.
Great Video!
Thanks!
i'm lovin your videos!!!
Glad you like them!
3:04, you can point the Aputure straight up if you plug the cable from the other side.
Good to know :D
How are the accessories support for Godox vs Apurture? Really dig the dome/china ball attachments for the Apurture lights, does Godox have similar accessories?
Good question! I'm hoping to cover some of this in an upcoming video, so stay tuned! :D It's in the works currently
thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I got the VL150 by Godox, while it is quiet a lot more expensive compared the SL60W it is so so so much more quiet. Highly recommended.
So glad to hear that! I'm thinking of getting one of those.... haha, so many lights out there!
I was just terrified when i heard the SL60W in my Studio the first time. For Photography it actually worked great, but i was wondering how you managed to use it for this video without audible fan noise. Do you cancel it out or do you work with a mic so close to you that its not a factor? Teach me! :D
Haha, honestly I have no idea how it's worked so well in the setup I have! I have the light 3-4 ft away from me at full blast for these videos. I record into camera with a powerdewise cheapy $20 lav mic and then do a little EQ adjusting in post. That's it! So, either the fans are just nice to me, or something! I will say the quieter SL60W is less noticeable, where the older one I have is alot louder and can be heard if you know it's there.
@@FellowFilmmaker I read somewhere that Godox told someone that they would be building in fans that are not as loud into the SL60W. So if it is a SL60W you bought into 2020 it might actually be more silent. I got mine very early this year, to me it's pretty loud.
I figured they just put out the VL Series and might not have changed the SL Series, if they did it must be quite the lottery not getting old stock by accident. Still also a very good light... i payed 99€ shipped, thats just a complete joke for the power you are getting.
Nice review. Curious as to the length of cable difference from the power supply/ controller and the lamp. Prefer not to mount the heavy controller/ power supply on the light stand - rather have it on the floor so have less mass on the stand - which has been a frustration on the Aperture. Probably the same on the Godox?
I believe the VL300 cord from lamp to controller is about 6ft. Not very much sadly.
Thanks! Can you do a comparison or review on the Godox FV200? I'm curious to see if the FV200 is enough power for all-purpose shoots...
I hear that's a pretty good light. I can see what I can do on that in the future, but no promises on if I can do it!
Excelente Reseña.
Thank you!
Your talking head frame looks so pretty 😁
Well thank you!
what stands are you sing on that vl300 and aputure 300d
Just heavy duty ones you grab off amazon. Got a link to the exact ones here: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker
Does the problem about to down the output under 10% in the Godox one is related only when it is remote controlled, do I understood right? Does not happen when it is controlled by the trgular knob on the devices, is it right?
Yes, the issue is only in the remote. It's a generic remote that works for alot of strobe lights for Godox, thus the remote is limited to just going down to 10%. You can turn the wheel on the control unit to get it lower, down to 0%
Thanks for this video and the one covering the SL60. They are very well done and full of info, but I am a bit surprised that you don't even mention the color temp accuracy in either video, something that many Godox lights seem to struggle with. I know you said this isn't a "technical review" but that seems like a pretty good thing to know for people looking to purchase these lights, especially those just starting out. I ended up going with a pair of Aputure 120D II's for my needs because of their build quality, lower measured fan noise, and accurate 5600k daylight temp that is always consistent.
Good point :) I feel if folks want to know about all the lumens, CRI's, and other such things there are plenty of videos on those topics that are better at covering them. I do agree that color temp is very important but there are some really easy work around with the Godox lights that I don't mind doing. So mostly it ends up being a personal preference thing I suppose. But, I'm glad you found some lights that you like - that's the most important thing. :D
Good review. I went with the Godox
Nice! :D
Thanks I just bought aputure 300dii led from uk !!
Great 👍 Hope you enjoy :D
Quick tip, every time you do a light, can place the cameras settings. ISO - Aperture - Speed and Lens!
:) Will keep that in mind!
i noticed that the VL300 controller has 2 V-mount slots. can i power the light with 1 battery, or do i need to fill both slots?
I believe you can use just one slot if you wanted to, but it doesn't let you have full power.
Aww I’m turned off by the extra power unit. Do you know if the vl150 also has this?
The VL150 also has a power unit, it's much smaller but I don't believe it has a velcro piece to keep it all consolidated. To be honest it's not too bad, but it is another piece to carry around and hook up, so I can understand why you might be turned off by it. I suppose if it's something you can't live with, there's always the Aputure 300dmkii (don't go with aputure 300d mki since it will have the same issue you are trying to avoid).
