Little late to the party but, I learned that crabs are pretty smart they all made it out except for Big Bill who spent 10 min trying to figure out how to get in…. Fascinating watching all the fish and sun stars!! Thanks 2023!! 🦀🐟
Love all the awesome sunflower starfishes. It appears to me when the food was at the bottom they had to come into eat and was easier to eat then hanging upside. That one pot I watched, yes I watched another pot, it had it on the bottom which made more sense. First nothing could eat it unless they came in, when it’s on the top it looks like anything could snack on it from the top and never come in. Also when it was on the bottom the amount of crabs and fish chowing was amazing. They all wanted a piece and could climb over each other vs more limited space when you have to hang. Just an observation. I would just put the food cage to the bottom and not the top and do a experiment. Just seems more inviting to crabs, because everyone wants to be where the crowd is, and it everyone is hanging from the top no one will see them. Want those crabs to have fomo!
"maybe a happy little crab lives right here. don't worry if it doesn't turn out as a crab, make it into an octopus. or just paint over it. do whatever feels right." -The late great Bob Ross (but more about trees and clouds than crabs)
The larger and very curious fish in the video are Sculpin. The flounder-type fish are either baby Halibut or another fish we call Arrow Tooth, which look similar to Halibut but are not as tasty. Of course, the crab are Dungeness crab. The star fish are actually sun fish. It is amazing, and annoying, how sun fish can squeeze into the small opening of the crab pot.
As already commented, Deadliest Catch never showed this. And they have more camera gear than anyone. This is so fascinating. I never realized how smart they are. Makes me feel bad when people drop them into scolding hot water and boil them alive. I imagine they feel every ounce of that pain. I remember living in FL and we cooked crab. You could literally hear them scream when they hit the boiling hot water
lol that one crab at the first bit of the video....did he not go to school when he was younger? or did he have something against the corner of the cage?
Belatedly, Big Toni realized he was trapped with a few very unsavory multi tentacled monsters. All his friends were gone... he had never felt more alone. Making matters even worse, the tips of his left claw were suddenly itching.
Wow that first crab - I had NO idea they were so fast and SO strong. That crab really breaks out some muscles trying to get in through the corner. I guess crab meat IS muscle and lots of it - they look strong as can be.
looks funny when you play it at x2 speed. also quite sad. when the crab managed to crawl into the cage it looks like he was frantically trying to find a way put. when he was outside it looks like he was using the cage as a back scratchier.
Super late to the party! I was shocked how long it took the crab to figure out how to get in. Caught pretty much everything but crab LOL. And one even escaped.
But it’s like all the movement the crabs make when they smell the bait attracts other crabs to see what all the fuss is about! I love crab, but lobster, shrimp and oysters are my favorites!
+Lord Byron i think that is a regulation for some areas to have the round hole that will allow small enough crabs out but keep the regulation sized ones inside.
The State of Alaska requires a current fishing license for harvesting shellfish. There are regulations for how many pots you can have and how many legal-sized crab you can keep.
Makes me wonder if you were to put some dark backing on the crab pot door the Crabs would find it easier. Making it look like a hole rather looking similar to the rest of the cage. Might not be permissible maybe???
I have done just about every job on the water but crabbing. So what's up with that one?? is it dumb or smart cleaning the barnacles off of itself?? Maybe that's the reason in some places they make the round lol

Thanks for giving us a view of what happens down there. This is cool! I wish the Deadliest Catch tv series would do something like this.

Did anyone else notice at 17:33 you see a true homie of a crab giving his buddy a boost up to the bait with one claw. Now that is brotherhood.
This is what I have been reduced to. Watching crab pots soak. Well - I grew tired of watching grass grow, so maybe it's progress of a kind ...
+whynottalklikeapirat you should try the paint drying channel
grimheathen
That sounds completely awesome and almost incomprehensibly action-packed
+whynottalklikeapirat Bob Ross is what you need.
MisterZhivago WheelieMaster YOu made me know what bob ross is. I shall never forgive you for this. It is now irrevocably part of my mental life.

Better than any reality TV show !!! Totally watched until the end.
Haha, the first crab trying to saw through the bars.
PhantomPowerSC is that the noise at about 3 minutes?
Lol he sure tried
he should have called his friend the sawfish....
24:18 crab on left: ‘’The name’s Crab, Mr. Crab.’’
[shakes hand with what ever that thing is]
Lmao
Nice
It's a sunflower star.

31:11 it was back not the same fish but same type of fish
Shelly Berna im sorry but dont you mean sun star. the sun fish is the mola mola
It's actually a sun starfish but locally we call it a sunfish.

Fish: ooooh! What's that? *bumps* oh... nvm.
Absolutely a fascinating watch.. Would have loved to see the cage brought up and opened. Thanx for sharing! :D
Great job, nicely done, thanks for posting!
the first crab had me laughing my arse off 😂👌
This was oddly satisfying to watch.
*CRABS LIKE "HEY CAN YOU GUYS LET ME OUT NOW?"* @ 14:44
Still more exciting than an episode of Deadliest Catch.
This is how i spend my time that i could be doing something productive
very nice video, great sharing!
The crab in the beginning is me on Monday mornings.
What I learned about this video is that crabs are very stupid
SonofRiggnarok Not that one crab at 28:15
Sebs17 holy crap. He said " fuck this"
Mouses are more dumb
SonofRiggnarok well, crabs pretty much don't have a physical Brain, soo
But oh so tasty
The beautiful scenery behind you, deep breath in, love it
What a cool video, thank you for that.
Best thing I ever seen...thanks.
thanks for the video I enjoyed it very much
please make a few more videos. they are actually therapeutic to watch. LOL

Great up close of the fish while the crab headbutts the corner XD
15:38 the fish tried to eat the camera LOL
i like how them big ass star fishes where like dont mind me ima just be the carpet
lol that one crab at the first bit of the video....did he not go to school when he was younger? or did he have something against the corner of the cage?
First crab is using the corner to scratch his back! Lol 😂😂😂😂
The sounds of the crabs walking around put me to sleep quick!
The starfish was like: fk! I came here for crab food, not to be the food of crab!!
what was that crab doing? having a nice scratch! 😂😂
Lol for the first crab I was thinking. " Doors to your right, dumbass :)
looks funny when you play it at x2 speed. also quite sad. when the crab managed to crawl into the cage it looks like he was frantically trying to find a way put. when he was outside it looks like he was using the cage as a back scratchier.
5:40 this fish made me laugh 😂😂😂
Seems like an inefficient design if the crabs have a difficult time getting in.
Quality over quantity, only the strongest get in. Perhaps you can pause and think before you comment next time.
@@johnbartlet8444 Calm down were all watching crab pots soak we didnt come here for conflict
@@justsomeasshole7388 OK, I guess you can get on with your life now.
@@justsomeasshole7388 totally not the wholesome comment I expected from your name
'Flat-Fish' - always first on the scene !
awww i wanted to see pull it up and see all the starfish 😭
Nice. You just got yourself a new subscriber here.
28:15 - 28:51 The crab succeed on escaping through the hole what a smart one
28:49 - Yay! - Its like 'escape from Colditz'! (I ALMOST CHEERED!) . . . . I'm so Sad !
First Crab: Swingy swooty gonna get dat booty! Fish: Bruh use the door.... -_-
Super late to the party! I was shocked how long it took the crab to figure out how to get in. Caught pretty much everything but crab LOL. And one even escaped.

18:38 Creepy Assed Starfish
Tommorow my physics exam and I'm watching this 😂😂😂
I don't know why this is so satisfying...
Thumbs up for crab impression 10/10 pinchers and nice murica shirt mister
What’s the deal with the sun fish. They get in and just lay there? Crazy. Love the video!
I think the crab had a mental breakdown😂 what was that? Tryin to rub his shell to get in😂😂
Looks like Mushmouth's hat from Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids cartoon show found its way into the pot.
One of the crabs got away through the round opening!
+Lord Byron i think that is a regulation for some areas to have the round hole that will allow small enough crabs out but keep the regulation sized ones inside.
Mr. Lingcod Returned To The Crab Trap When A Sea Stars Take Dinner Away They Eat... EVERYTHING!!!
What did you use for a camera setup? Did you have a light rigged in the camera?
No light rigged. The camera was simply tied to the crab trap.
That first crab is a huge dork lol!
Fish at @6:00 is like "what cha looking at"
That fish swam up to the camera like "Dafuq is this!?" (Bump) "oh shit!?" (swims away)
That is a killer sunfish holy shit!!
Synforevera7x They are actually called Slobs,. in the commercial fishing world
That one crab on the left squeezed through the circle at 28:30 and finally gets out at 28:57
We could learn so much from crabs.......about free stuff.
That crab needs a back scratcher
Lol i know right
best part 12:58 he takes a running leap for it and juuuust misses.
omg so cool! Underwater exploration drones ftw
LOL THAT CRAB WAS RUBBING IT'S BACK ON THE CAGE
Watching for 10 minutes now and the crab can't figure it out.
The way the star fish get in is creepy and how is there already three of them lol
What is the legal sz. for Dungeness crab in Alaska? Here in Washington State it's 6-1/4" in Puget Sound and 6" on the coast.
The legal size for Dungeness crab in Alaska is 6.5 inches notch to notch. Only male Dungeness crab can be kept for consumption.
Idk what it is but I love watching videos like this it's kinda like zit popping videos just cant stop
Is that a surface speaker or on the bottom with all the creaking? Nice video reminds me of Charlie White's work in the early eighties. Doug
The GoPro is picking up the sound of the crab rubbing against the pot. There was one crab messing with the camera from behind :)
Shelly Berna what go pro is that the 2 because I might get it. I love those water sounds it makes and the crackling.
That starfish was hella cool
The doors need vertical bars to slide on the carb when they enter and why are they the same size as those rings, catching what needs to be released?
The State of Alaska requires a current fishing license for harvesting shellfish. There are regulations for how many pots you can have and how many legal-sized crab you can keep.
+HOLDER-FORST ARBEITEN this was an English fail of the highest account.
As someone who speaks German, let me tell you that he fails at German too.
Is that circle in the trap wall the legal size? Will the too small crabs be able to climb out of it?
And do you try to get rid of the sculpins and sun stars or throw them back?
Shelly Berna laws...blah blah nblah!
Very cool video ! Liked and subbed
6:10 - what type of fish are those . . . .Gurnards ?
Not sure what type of fish that is, never caught one to see.
hey there's food in here! (slips in then realizes its stuck) Shit! Shit! Shit! It's a trap!
lol I always wondered why crabs never seem to have barnacles on them.
It's like a slow motion hell in the cell match.
That trap makes it too hard for the crabs to figure out how to get in. It's a great starfish trap, tho.
Are those stingrays? They are so cute!
Oneday i'm going to vlog catching crab and fish..i like this adventure bro.
those sea stars are the stuff of nightmares
the fish is showing them the way to do it, so clever :o)
Sea stars are very nice eating if steamed with tarragon and served with brandy sauce on a bed of Jasmine rice.
Almost seems like they implied a wee bit of teamwork and communication XD
looks like a co-op... lol thanks for posting
LOL @ 33:10 "And then there was one!"
crab be like But First let me take a selfie
Very satisfying results...
Makes me wonder if you were to put some dark backing on the crab pot door the Crabs would find it easier. Making it look like a hole rather looking similar to the rest of the cage. Might not be permissible maybe???
This is like watching the characters of Big brother
seems way too hard for the crab to enter the trap. Could the trap doors be larger?
I have done just about every job on the water but crabbing. So what's up with that one?? is it dumb or smart cleaning the barnacles off of itself?? Maybe that's the reason in some places they make the round lol
