Great vid very interesting underwater perspective, showing the bite behaviour of the fish, gives you a better understanding of what is happening at the end of your line. Thanks well done
Fantastic video, reminds me of my trip to Homer, Alaska for halibut. Thanks for bringing back the memories. We got some big ones out of the Homer Spit.
Awesome video! When the GoPro slid by it's big eyes & across it's back & then it had one eye on the camera & one eye on the bait! That footage turned out so good!
Fish has to listen to them say "you wanna keep him or not?" after fighting his heart out. Just like the gladiators in Roman days waiting for the thumbs up or down. Great video, I got my share of halibut this summer outside of Homer
Seth rigged GoPro Hero with a sport spreader bar, black tape, commercial genyon(gangion), stainless steel wire then just aimed it at the hook. Estimated depth at 90 feet. Sunny, bright day no lighting rigged. Hook baited with salmon. Twenty recording attempts before getting this footage. Fish was 60-ish pounds. Lost his GoPro a week later on a bigger fish. (I submit, we viewers, crowdsource some funds for Seth to continue his AWESOME quest!)
Good stuff. Interesting how when it was fighting hard, puffed up with its dorsal fin cocked, you could almost see what it would have looked like back in time before it evolved into the sideways swimming halibut we all know and love. Fascinating.
Wicked vid mate, loved the way the smaller fish was harassing the bait for ages and then the biggun showed up like the opening scene of Return of the Jedi :D Don't worry about all the bleeding hearts who can't stand the sight of an animal being dispatched (and in a completely humane and acceptable way) but are probably quite happy to buy battery eggs and cheap bacon. Hope it tasted great :)
Stellar video! A buddy of mine did that out in California when the GoPro's first came out. 50% of the time the Halibut would hit the torpedo sinker and not the bait...lmao! Our fish are little farts in comparison. Nice job!
Thought about doing that myself, pretty awesome! At the beginning of the video I thought is was more like 'Rock Sole' fishing with a GoPro. I noticed the Sole left in a hurry.
Woah that's a big fish! It looked smaller under water. Thanks sooo much for this video. Not a lot out there like this one. Just imagine if we could all have a camera on the line. It would be a game changer!
Caught a 181# with K-Bay out of Homer years ago first timer. Now I know what was going on down there. Every time the rod tapped the boat railing, the fish dived. Capt Scott coached me good. Was like reeling in a palette of plywood.
Wow inside look to how a halibut and small flattie go after the bait, the big guy came in and took over from the small flattie but he got his share. and the big fella bit off more than he could chew ultimately he ended up on the dinner plate. awesome video ty Sir
Wow! This is a totally cool video clip! Sure seems like they respond better to the bait when it’s being bounce or moved along the bottom... I’ll keep it in mind next time I’m fishing off my favorite point in Baja.. Thanks! BTW: Nice fish!
Really, how did you keep the camera on the fish the whole time. I would love to see you rig. I hooked my go pro to my tuna rod the other day in NJ and it got hit by two sharks head first and then I saw tons of Black Sea Bass on the bottom, but it kept on flipping over into the sand and up in the air. Any ideas on how to keep it upright? Thanks and great video!
LOL!!!.... awesome piece of video... really gotta love the detail on how that fish looked over the bait long before it nailed it... do some more... thank you
Very interesting and great fun. Tried to peek through the comments and see what the weight of that fish was, but couldn't find it. Little help? Thanks!
Too bad you lost your GoPro. Are you planning to do this again? You might have to use something stronger than black tape though, I bet that was your weak link in the set-up. Great vid, thanks for sharing.
Great video!! I never realized how much time we were wasting staying in the same spot if we didn't hook up quickly. Seems a hungry halibut will bite just about anything that smells like a fish that comes their way. Line shy? Looks like dock rope was used for the line. Nice catch. Next time I fish for halibut and we are not hooking we will move to another spot.
What kind of rig was that? In California with monofilament and a halibut leader setup the trick to landing the halibut is when you get it to the top, put your thumb on the spool and click it over to free spool. They play possum and will violently crash for the bottom and snap your line if your not ready for that. Your video was very cool. That was a big toad.
Outstanding video. Is there any way you can show the rig you made.? PLEASE?? I have got to do this with a tuna. If you want to see us playing around with some little Blackfin search "griff blackfin" Thanks.
Hey lol it's me again. I'm wondering if your willing to share how you rigged on the GoPro. I'm wondering did you use a spreader? But just wonder if you could tell. Thanks
seth perry awesome video, maybe try attaching camera to the downrigger when fishing that way so the camera stays with your gear when monster halibut wants to keep the rest of the gear....
Respect to this beautiful fish. He fought hard. The meat is precious! And there is a lot. It was intense to watch this creature's battle. I hope his flesh was enjoyed by your family. I am fond of Halibut.
It was shared and fully respected. No wasting or trophy hunting here. This video was never intended to be shared publicly but it was to amazing not to. Respect the Butt.
RIght on! Honorable all around. I am a hunter and a fisherman. How are things up your way right now in the sea? I hear differing stories. Healthy and abundant? Thanks for your response...
Great vid very interesting underwater perspective, showing the bite behaviour of the fish, gives you a better understanding of what is happening at the end of your line. Thanks well done
LOL! The Go Pros getting bitch slapped by the halibut.
I am mentally traumatized for life now. Looked like i got punched in the face like 30 times in 5 seconds, for the entire 30 second run!
That was neat. It was a lot bigger than I thought once you had people for perspective. Good video.
This brings a whole new meaning to fish finder. Great video! Excluding the 324 tree hugger's, who now have nightmares.
haha a+
Add some professional orchestra sound to it and it would the number one horror movie of the year,
I was sitting there yelling, Land the thing, Quit jacking around and land the damn thing. lol
like to see u do better
OH jackass I was joking, Go back under your rock and shut the f up
Tim LeDoux hahahahha fuck yes
LMAO
Fish has to listen to them say "you wanna keep him or not?" after fighting his heart out. Just like the gladiators in Roman days waiting for the thumbs up or down. Great video, I got my share of halibut this summer outside of Homer
this is seriously the coolest underwater halibut video I've seen. great job! sketchy when he almost went around the anchor

The sound of the drag on the reel is awesome
Way to go Seth. Thank you for sharing this cool vid. As I write this I got fish stix in the oven CAN'T WAIT.
New title: "Halibut Hates the Hero". ;) Great video; very interesting to see their behaviour.
Very cool, thanks for sharing. Nothing like breaded pan fried halibut cheeks.
Awesome video. I've gone halibut fishing a few times and had no luck. I enjoyed this video, thanks.
Good video. I has thinking that was an ugly bulky leader but it works obviously.
That was amazingly fascinating, I start to feel a little bad for the fish, then I remember how good they taste, bad feeling gone.
I'm sure that feeling was hunger...
Amazing footage.. When he approached the field of view I was like NO WAY!
Impressive.....I love fishing but never seen anything like this. Awesome!
Wicked vid mate, loved the way the smaller fish was harassing the bait for ages and then the biggun showed up like the opening scene of Return of the Jedi :D

That was one of the coolest fishing videos I’ve ever witnessed!
you know your not going to be release when the red hammer comes out. The Last minutes of the Halibut.. I like that title!!!
Trouta Holic p
Woah that's a big fish! It looked smaller under water. Thanks sooo much for this video. Not a lot out there like this one. Just imagine if we could all have a camera on the line. It would be a game changer!
Cool vidio, thanks for posting it! Halibut look like they put up a good fight.
awesome footage!! Couldnt have asked for this video to be amy more perfect!
Caught a 181# with K-Bay out of Homer years ago first timer. Now I know what was going on down there. Every time the rod tapped the boat railing, the fish dived. Capt Scott coached me good. Was like reeling in a palette of plywood.
DANM IT LOOKED SMALLER UNDER WATER. GREAT POV.
TMXPOZURZ ,,,,,,,,,,,, were Bill and Ben under the water?😎
Awesome video. Halibut saw the camera and was like....Not sure what you are, but I am going for it !
That was great. I’ve caught so many but never watched it on TV! Thanks.
Wow inside look to how a halibut and small flattie go after the bait, the big guy came in and took over from the small flattie but he got his share. and the big fella bit off more than he could chew ultimately he ended up on the dinner plate. awesome video ty Sir
Awesome rigging of the go pro!
That is so awesome thanks I need to try that on our halibut videos so cool. What case did you use to get that deep?
#BoutdoorsAlaska
Stock case. We were pushing limits. It can handle way more than it gets credit for. Haha
Wow! This is a totally cool video clip! Sure seems like they respond better to the bait when it’s being bounce or moved along the bottom... I’ll keep it in mind next time I’m fishing off my favorite point in Baja.. Thanks!
BTW: Nice fish!

they make a product called trollpro
Used a spreader bar and black tape. Then just aimed it at the hook.
Super fish man, great to see how they react to bait with the camera.
Wow, nice, that halibut ran pretty good, all the halibut I've caught so far put no fight at all, just dead weight.
Picks the go pro back up to show the blugering with the deadblow hammer... love it! Great vid!
Awesome! It looked small underwater then when you pulled it on deck it was a nice size!
Awesome video! It was interesting how easy it is to hear the reel running and winding, all the way on the bottom
LOL!!!.... awesome piece of video... really gotta love the detail on how that fish looked over the bait long before it nailed it... do some more... thank you
Man that camera looked like it took a pretty big beating
Very Cool! Watched that recovering from surgery on percosets. Highly recommend that!
Nice catch, and thanks for the view. Its videos like these that make efficient anglers. Again thanks and good job!
Sperry, that is a good one. is that on the harvester? How's things going in this day and age?
Very interesting and great fun. Tried to peek through the comments and see what the weight of that fish was, but couldn't find it.
Little help? Thanks!
50 to 60 lbs
Oh man it's so cool how the audio telegraphs exactly what's going on topside with the reel.
Some great shots there. Nice fish too.
The best footage! Nice catch
Thank you!
I love fishing for tuna like that. They're only decent table fare. But they're awfully fun to catch--especially when they school!
Too bad you lost your GoPro. Are you planning to do this again? You might have to use something stronger than black tape though, I bet that was your weak link in the set-up.
Great vid, thanks for sharing.
Lost the whole rig after we wrapped something on the bottom. The GoPro was attached with stainless steel wire and electrical tape.
that was a quick bite
Started cracking up at 5:30 as the fish ran around town lol
A lot bigger than I thought, Nice!
Thanks for sharing this. It was neat. I sure would like to come visit you folks in Alaska but i don't know if I'll ever be able to.
that's a lot of FIGHT! Great job, awesome Hero set up.
Great footage, how long did you attach the leader to the go pro and how did you stop the go pro from floating? Thanks
Lead keeps things from floating. We attached the gopro to a spreader bar with ss wire and black tape.
wow one of the coolest videos ever!!!
Dam i miss eating halibut...best fish ever...lived in Alaska 41 years...miss it..need to jig that line
sweet footage, that's a crazy angle
Great video!! I never realized how much time we were wasting staying in the same spot if we didn't hook up quickly. Seems a hungry halibut will bite just about anything that smells like a fish that comes their way. Line shy? Looks like dock rope was used for the line. Nice catch. Next time I fish for halibut and we are not hooking we will move to another spot.
That was the best fishing video I've ever seen! Please do more.
Trying to get halibut from my local jetty. You guys make it look so easy.
can u show how 2 make that rig with the go pro
Good video friend , i was just checking out your channel and i joined up

Awesome idea! Awesome footage!
That camera takes one heck of a beating! Nice video!

Outstanding video. Is there any way you can show the rig you made.? PLEASE?? I have got to do this with a tuna. If you want to see us playing around with some little Blackfin search "griff blackfin" Thanks.

Seth, Dude that's some killer footage, Awesome Rig Job for the GoPro!
GREAT VID A++
I've had fresh Halibut. It is mighty tasty!
Hey lol it's me again. I'm wondering if your willing to share how you rigged on the GoPro. I'm wondering did you use a spreader? But just wonder if you could tell. Thanks
great fish and great video man! one hell of a sight
wow that was so cool thx for the upload
Amazing...you got some guts putting an expensive camera on a line like that....but thank you for doing so!
Lost this camera a week later to a massive halibut.
seth perry awesome video, maybe try attaching camera to the downrigger when fishing that way so the camera stays with your gear when monster halibut wants to keep the rest of the gear....
Excellent really enjoyed your video, thank you
Very Cool! Now I know what it looks like to take a halibut ride!
That's an awesome idea. Cool to watch!
How deep was that video shot at
Super cool. Great video.
At 4:42 the halibut is like "Shit, I am on camera!"
Respect to this beautiful fish. He fought hard. The meat is precious! And there is a lot. It was intense to watch this creature's battle. I hope his flesh was enjoyed by your family. I am fond of Halibut.

That is soooo cool O.O I was like....Is that...is that the fish? And then it took the bait!
That was....very very cool!
That was some really cool underwater footage. New sub!
Did you modify that harpoon? I've had little luck finding shorter harpoons so I assume I'll have to build one or shorten a pre-existing one?
Jamie Sweet no harpoon. Just a gaff hook.
Great video!
The best Video I ever seen! Greetings from Germany
