The train station in Paraguari was completed shortly before the out break of the Triple Alliance War in the later part of the 19th century.
As a result of the war the development of rail network was brought to a halt and that which had been built slowly became abandoned.
After the finally closure of the railways at the end of the 20th century the station was left to decay for many years.
It has though now been restored and repainted.
For anyone in the area of Paraguari a trip to the old train station is a worthwhile one.
Oh, and I apologise for the sound of the wind during the video. I hope to have shortly a proper microphone which will stop that from happening.

In 1989 I got a train from Asuncion to somewhere, may well have been that place. Anyway it was a steam train, not for tourists but in regular service. At the destination I went into the ticket office to enquire about the times of returning trains. The man in the office was communicating in morse code! Anyway there was no return train so I had to hitch a lift back. Obviously Paraguay´s changed a lot since then but what has remained the same is how clean and tidy the country is. Love it!

It was not long after that that the train service closed down, turn of the century. They were steam trains until the end. When I first arrived there was still one being run as a tourist trip out of Asuncion, but even that shut down a while ago. Much of the rolling stock was just left where it had finished. There are now museums at the central station and the machine shop at Sapucai (which I shall be visiting shortly)

Great video Simon. Coincidentally, I visited Sapucai today. There was a familiar flag blowing in the wind 😉. The narration competition with the guinea fowl in your video, is very amusing. 😊

I've been to Sapucai a few times. There's an item about it on the blog. Once it cools a little it is one of the places I'll be visiting to film for UA-cam

Hi Simon, I am missing all your videos :) I have just returned today from Asuncion, sent all my documents request to Canada by Fed Ex, not cheap $140.00 but the service is 2-3 days. I will keep you updated as time goes by. Now I can catch up on all your videos lol.

Sounds expensive the post, but if it means things are going to get there and back swiftly probably worth it. Enjoy the videos. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll have a mic to cut out the wind noise
