Lichess is fantastic. The only qualm I have about cheating is the idea that Thibault was considering to allow people back after an apology. This would be a massive mistake for the following reasons: 1. Right now, millions of chess players have the choice to go to a spot that either allows back cheaters over and over again, and a spot that just bans them. There is already an appeal process and that's all that's needed. 2. For the legitimate players who actually love the sport, and who have 1000s of games stored...there is a massive incentive to never cheat because then all of their Lichess Insights will be wiped out.

He could have as easily made a site for tic-tac-toe players, but this game doesn't have as many followers on social media..

Rex and I actually about same blitz strength as Thibault. Play many games when I was at his place for a week some years previously during a party for the bishop of St. Louis. An interesting way for chess to be around with an actual Catholic bishop.

I guess it depends exactly what you mean by "talking shit" :) Lichess mods can see when games come between accounts that follow each other or direct challenges, i.e. people that know each other. It helps to distinguish banter between friends from abuse.
