- This pie was GONE in about 2.5 seconds after the cameras stopped rolling. My ENTIRE family was all over this like ants on Kool-Aid. And the best part??? It is sugar free! Well, mine was because my applesauce was REALLY sweet to begin with.
You could totally use sugar, sweetened applesauce, or Splenda and be just fine.. but who knew you could make a custard pie from eggs and applesauce???
If you do make this (which I HIGHLY recommend)... I'd add some nutmeg. Just to give it even more of an intricate flavor progression. My entire family agreed that the flavor of this pie was pretty cool - you taste apple first, then lemon... then meringue its a trip. Reminded me of that scene from Willy Wonka where Violet eats the "dinner in a gum".
Either way, what a great something out of nothing recipe that is actually pretty healthy for you.
As always, my utmost thanks for hanging out on my channel with me!
Heres the recipe.

your acumen for selecting interesting recipes shows itself off again! another winner!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's so nice when these experiments work out
Really interesting recipe! I’m surprised it didn’t tell you to cool the custard part first, and I’m definitely gonna try this. I’ve also found my new binge channel! Thank you!
It's great to have you here! I'm hoping to get back to filming really soon!
Interesting recipe and glad it went down well with the family. Unlikely to be trying the recipe myself as I'm vegan and can't think what to use in place of the egg. Looking forward to seeing what other recipes you try from the book. You certainly got a bargain.
I always love when a recipe works out lol... I've never tried this, but I have seen custard pie recipes that use silken tofu and cornstarch as the egg replacement. I wonder if you googled vegan custard pie and then perhaps replaced any liquid with the applesauce? Shot in the dark here but I'd wonder if it would yield something similar...🤔
Ooh, I shall look into that. Thanks
