What should the roles be for young guys like Blake Freeland and Matt Goncalves in 2024?
You guys are great. I love the show.
I am high on Blake Freeland, but I agree with Zach that Freeland had offseason homework to do and that we will know a lot about Freeland simply when he reports to training camp in a couple months or so.
Dude that “rough start” by raimann wasn’t even that bad for real, the refs were just straight up picking on him as the new guy, he was getting absolutely trash calls against him.
Impressed by Witt’s RAS scores last year, but so disappointed with his hip injury. This is a basketball player converted to tight end and now to offensive tackle…Hope the Colts stay patient with this great young man, keep him on the practice squad if not regular roster and let him develop to his full potential. I know that he will give his all!!!🙏👍👍😎🇺🇸
i think freeland played a lot better on the right side. i would have him and goncalves as the backup tackles and let jake witt develop on the practice squad. i think bortolini will be the backup iOL guy cause he can play all three positions inside. i do wonder if they view him as the successor to ryan kelly

Middle ground on Freeland seems right.
Colts are going to have to do two contradictory things: cut the cost of the offensive line and get Bernie Raimann resigned. Assuming Q's contract makes him untradeable, that indicates where the cuts are likely to come...
We don't have to resign Ryan Kelly Goncalves will be ready to start at C next year and will probably replace Will Fries at RG at some point this season. We also don't have to resign Raimann until 2026.
@@ericeast8097 If Goncalves is going to replace Kelly, no reason to put him on the line this year and mess up continuity for Fries.
@@ericeast8097bortoloni is the one that will replace Kelly not Goncalves but he can play either guard or tackle and will replace somebody down the line most likely
@@alexhernandez3241 that's what I meant, I got them switched. I think Goncalves will replace Fries after this season. I believe Fries's contract is up along with Kelly's isn't it?
@@smoothkid765 it's Bortolini I meant to say. Fries is the weak link on the Oline. There is continuity, but that only goes do far. If Bortolini or Goncalves perform then they could supplant Fries this year to get playing time and then both Ryan and Fries contracts are up after this season. Bortolini can take over for Kelly and Goncalves can take over for Fries. Or we resign Fries and phase out Braden Smith if injuries continue to be a concern. We can then draft another couple Olinemen next year for depth. The original poster is correct, we do have to find a way to balance out the cost of our Oline, and we do that with rookie contract players. We don't have to worry about Raimann for a couple years tho so we have time. Hopefully Smith stay healthy. He's only 28 and doesn't allow sacks. Like ever. Ideally Bortolini can replace Fries by mid season to get him ready to replace Ryan next year. If Ryan gets injured, Bortolini has some NFL playing experience and can shift over to C while Fries resumes his starting role at RG.
