Look at that afro on Bryant Gumbel. During the week, he anchored sports on KNBC Ch 4 Los Angeles. Who knew Bryant would go from sports to news when he joined Jane Pauley by early 1982.
Yes, w/NFL '81 being his last gig with NBC Sports when it came to football; IIRC, he would go back to NBC Sports for a time on the Olympics around 1988.
That, and the 80s when I was a boy, when Jim Nantz was on The Prudential College Football Report on CBS Saturdays-- just scores and highlights, and from time to time a short feature segment/interview about a college football story in the headlines (no extracurriculars, unlike how ESPN and all outlets are today).
Mike Adamle suffered from epilepsy for 19 years and was ultimately diagnosed with dementia--both conditions are felt to be the result of the many concussions he received in football
@@bleeding4721 He was in the beginning stages of dementia at the time. His memory is now extremely short-term as a result. He was forced to retire from public life in 2017 and now must carry a fanny pack on his person at all times with his identification, keys, and phone in case he gets lost. He's dying and doesn't even know it.
Ill take this era of football any day ...love 70s nfl
Hell Yes!!
You said it!
Absolutely. Agreed!

I'm guessing the "X IN WHITE" graphics were done because many people were still using black-and-white televisions at the time.
It is easy to see why CBS was #1 in football coverage.
#DC4L
Simple and factual. Nothing fancy. I miss the 70s
Bland.
The notion that less is more is lost on modern sport shows.

Gary Danielson is now a college football announcer for CBS I hope y’all will reply to this
Got to love "(team) in white"
The piped in typewriting or teletype sounds are really annoying when you hear this now.
Back when football was a real competitive sport, not sports entertainment.

Dexter Bussey,,,GOAT
Mike Adamle suffered from epilepsy for 19 years and was ultimately diagnosed with dementia--both conditions are felt to be the result of the many concussions he received in football
Never knew that. Even with that, he had a long career in broadcasting after his playing days ended.
He was in the early stages of dementia when he was employed as an on-air talent/ in-universe authority figure on WWE television in 2008.
When the Giants beat Washington, it's always a good day. ☺️
Wow Bills 5 Bengals 0. That must have been a barn burner
Makes me think about a 1970 playoff game ending with the same score.
@@jimmyedwards1639 yeah Dallas vs Detroit right :) ?
Yes.
I didn't know Gary Danielson played college and pro football.
He once played a game and won a few days after his baby daughter died.
Purdue Boilermakers
Purdue Boilermakers
"Were the Chargers playing *that* badly or were the Lions just playing well for once?"
Goddamn even in the 70's huh?
“All the runs were unearned.”
does anyone know what the commercial that popped up behind bryant on the projector screen was?
That's Hal Linden (Barney Miller) for the 1979 Chrysler Newport.

Socially distanced football coverage
there was no vaccine for disco fever
Former WWE Raw GM Mike Adamle wasn’t bad at all.
Yea. He was
For American Gladiators, he did great with that. Anything after that, no bueno.

Zenon Andrusyshyn- that name in itself deserves a 30-30 or a Steve Hartman story. Maybe, Bryant can get into this story.
The BiG Z (zenon) was the pre-eminent kicker in the CFL for many years for Toronto argonauts before heading to NFL.
Afro Gumbel
bears plays bucs this week
Eagles lost to the Cowboys. I will never watch this again. ☹️
Superbowl contender vs up and comer
Gumbel was awful
Can you upload some Dallas cowboys games from 2002 to 2005 all at home at Dallas?
Tv tapes.
