Great stuff. These highlights, along with MNF halftime highlights, were the only way to see these clips. miss them and they were gone. So happy that the people who recorded these games in the early VCR days kept tape rolling during these segments!
At the time, there were 13 stadiums that had both MLB and NFL teams--Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, Cleveland Municipal Stadium, Houston Astrodome, Metropolitan Stadium outside Minneapolis-St. Paul, Shea Stadium in Flushing, Queens, Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis, Candlestick Park in San Francisco, and the Seattle Kingdome.
. 6:52 mark......INCREDIBLE one-handed grab, and even BETTER touchdown run by Wes Chandler of the Saints.....back before the 'tacky' gloves they have now that have made one-handed catches almost routine!! Don't remember Wes Chandler as a Saint.....always think of him during his glory days with the San Diego Chargers! Great bit of nostalgia for these (seemingly) better days gone by. Thanks very much for posting this GREAT stuff !! .
The font used with the video highlights was also used by CBS News and on local newscasts of the CBS-owned TV stations and many CBS-TV affiliates. Note that the on-screen graphics introducting highlights of games covered by CBS had the CBS eye; those from games on NBC have both "Courtesy NBC Sports" and don't have the Eye logo.
Charles Mefford - Art Modell had the misfortune of Jim Brown's early retirement (paetly Modell's fault), the rise of the Steelers' dynasty of the 1970s, Red Rocket Right and John Elway. Firing Jim Brown, Bill Bellichick and a bad stadium deal for Cleveland Municipal is all his fault. Ever since the new Browns entered into the league, they have been a dumpster fire burning out of control.
Well it's 2021 & this Niner fan 4 Life likes your Mayfield led Browns, who smacked Pittsburgh w/48 @ Hines. Your QB, WRs & O line earned respect. QB didn't wilt in 3rd & 4th; WRs sure hands. Regardless what happens @ KC, that was a Statement Game. W/no Head Coach & OC, you Browns rallied. Would love to have your QB w/Niner O line. To quote Mr. Cosell: "The Browns. Are. Back."
yeah funny almost all of the teams were outdoors then including the Vikings who played in the Met--only dome teams were the Saints and Detroit then...great memories of my 1st year watching NFL! NFL today was the best with Brent Musberger hosting
How strange it must have seemed there was a kid (me) who enjoyed the pregame shows and highlights more than the games themselves. I was always fascinated by how NFL Today and NFL Live hosts could navigate the video and keep everything straight. A lot of times, you could tell they were winging it. Also, so many names from the past I remember, that most won't know. Guys like Jeff Komlo, Jerry Eckwood, Kevin Long, etc. Part of my growing up.
+NFL1968 It was the very same way that ABC used to post scores from college football games post game broadcast. Lined up boxes on the wall. The cameraman worked the studio overtime. I'm talking about the 1960's and 70's.
In those days NOBODY used the West Coast offense which had 60% completion percentages. 50% was not bad in those days as teams just went back and threw the ball around without the reading of defenses that is done today.
how do u compare nbc sports coverage vs cbs ..? am i wrong in saying nbc covers more afc and cbs is more nfc ...how does that figure in if we can get a confirmation ..?
Most did back then. Football-only stadiums were the exception, not the rule. In fact, stadiums like Shea, Riverfront, Three Rivers, the Vet, RFK, etc. were designed with movable stands for that purpose. Only a handful of stadiums were football-only, like then-new Giants Stadium, Soldier Field in Chicago, Texas Stadium in Dallas, the Patriots' digs in Foxboro, the Bills' place in Orchard Park, the Orange Bowl in Miami, Tampa Bay, the Pontiac Silverdome and that's pretty much it. I'd include the LA Coliseum but the Dodgers actually used it for a couple of years when they first moved from Brooklyn. The New Orleans Superdome was used for exhibition baseball. Earlier, places like old Yankee Stadium, the Polo Grounds, Wrigley, Fenway, and other theoretically baseball-only parks hosted college and pro football. Until relatively recently, football-only venues were mostly a college thing.
14-12 Raiders Jan 4 1981 he is RESPONSIBLE FOR BROWNS LOSING THEY SHOULD HAVE RUN OUT THE CLOCK IF COCKROFT DOES HIS JOB AND RED RIGHT 88 NEVER MATERIALIZES!!!!!!!! MISSED 2 FGs and had a PAT BLOCKED !!!!!! THE FINAL SHOULD HAVE BEEN 19 -14 BROWNS!!!!!
Hahahaa! Hardly any highlights and still better than NFL network and BSPN!!! Someone please find a way to broadcast ALL the NFL games without a threat of it being omitted.
Fun highlights and good memories but wow was this ever an inferior product compared to the NFL of today. Most of these teams would struggle to beat a good D1 high school team today.
Would be totally enjoyable if not for Jayne Kennedy. She's reading her copy (re: comments they gave her to read regarding games) with all the enthusiasm of a geriatric placing an order of corned beef hash and a Vernor's no ice at a Howard Johnson's in Ypsilanti. I say "reading," but she can barely read, it sounds like. Well, that's Affirmative Action for ya.
Kennedy was so bad comparatively. Beautiful woman, but with the great Musburger in the studio it is tough to look or sound like anything but an amateur.

those were the good ol days
1979 the " We are Family" Pitt Pirates won the World Series in October! Classic!
It's crazy how many NFL stadiums in those days also served as MLB stadiums. The only one that still does today is the stadium in Oakland.
@@Tubewings The Packers played 3 games each year at Milwaukee County Stadium until 1994.
@@rcbeamer That, too, but I don't really count them.

The Browns at 2-0 That's something you don't hear anymore
These days the only way the Browns go 2-0 is if the standings are read upside down. LOL
Back when Art Modell owned the Browns, they actually had some good teams! The new ownership doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. LOL
Charles Mefford - Art Modell had the misfortune of Jim Brown's early retirement (paetly Modell's fault), the rise of the Steelers' dynasty of the 1970s, Red Rocket Right and John Elway.

Wow Denver vs Atlanta was a future super bowl match up in 98😱 And the falcons playing outdoors😱
yeah funny almost all of the teams were outdoors then including the Vikings who played in the Met--only dome teams were the Saints and Detroit then...great memories of my 1st year watching NFL! NFL today was the best with Brent Musberger hosting
There are still NFL teams in Baltimore and Cleveland, but not the ones that were there in 1979.
RIP Irv Cross
yeah Irv, Brent, Phyllis and Jimmy the Greek were my favorite NFL today crew!
ahh the good ole days when i was 15.
Including 9/26/79 MLB highlights of the Pirates vs the NY Mets. Wish more material existed of my all time favorite team.
Always loved CBS pre-games over NBC's for one reason...Jayne Kennedy. Delicious.
+Albert Owen I think she's homely compared to Phyllis George.
ugh.
fisting jayne
retrorex Jayne Kennedy >>>>>>>> Phyllis George
🤪
This was the halftime for the "late" (4:05 P.M. EDT starts back then) Sunday-afternoon games.
I miss the simple graphics.

Good stuff here from NFL Today crew. Rams end up in Super Bowl against Steelers.
Jayne Kennedy😍💚
She was horrible.....reading right off the prompter...fake emotion......so forced and cringy....
Bradshaw came back on the field and won that game against the Cards.
Those early Seattle teams owned the Raiders. From 1977 (Seattle's 2nd season) thru 1979 they were 4-1 vs Oakland..
ESPN was one week old when this Show happened.
Mets highlights start at 3:55 !!!
How did we ever watch the NFL without HD.
Those posted scores look like something a kid in junior high art class designed.

The newer bells and whistles and overdone graphics are not needed to see scores.
looked like when they did the scores,it liked someone was using cue cards showing the scores
The Colts coverage on that bomb to Newsome........ Not good
Steelers getting crushed by St Louis at the half, Terry Bradshaw sent to the hospital... Oh, and they win the Superbowl later that year 😂
13-25 132yds good day throwing the ball?? game has changed

NFL Red Zone playbook

Wow did all these NFL teams in the 70s play in baseball stadiums😒

Cockcroft never misses a money kick? The Raiders are laughing
OG Raider fans know. Maybe he kicked good in nice weather but not the cold!
This was a year before that. His track record up through 1979 was mostly good

not true
Musberger is easy on the ears. But Gawd, Kennedy and Cross are just awful.
Never realized back then just how bad Cross was..
Lions losing back then also

Don cockroft never missed a money kick, he would make Brent eat his words the next season against Oakland in the playoffs
She was good to look at but was terrible at speaking. I missed Phylis George.
You said it all.....😆😅🤣😂🙂😁
Kennedy was so bad comparatively. Beautiful woman, but with the great Musburger in the studio it is tough to look or sound like anything but an amateur.
Back when real men played with brain damages and any other physical ailments. Not like todays soft millenial players.
