- “Best Chicken Soup”
1 Tablespoon olive oil
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 onion, diced
2 large carrots, thinly sliced
2 ribs celery, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
6 cups chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
1/2 teaspoon ground thyme
1 pound chicken breasts, cooked and chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground pepper
1 cup orzo pasta
2/3 cup frozen peas
Place olive oil in the bottom of your soup pot. Turn on medium heat so the oil will get hot. Once the oil is hot, add the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic.
Sauté for a few minutes until the onion becomes translucent. Next, add the ginger and turmeric and sauté for another 30 seconds. Add chicken broth, rosemary, thyme, salt, pepper, and chicken. Stir to combine.
Add the orzo pasta and peas . Cook 8 to 10 minutes, or until the orzo pasta is tender. Add extra chicken broth, if needed, and adjust seasonings as desired.

Im disabled and been on a fixed income since I was about 30. I raised 3 kids and at one point, I had a husband and 2 stepkids, so I learned to pinch pennies and use what I had. They used to call me the soup queen cause once a week I cleaned out my fridge and threw pretty much all leftovers in a crockpot with some crushed tomatoes and a can of rotel. Usually didnt have to season cause everything was already seasoned. My kids loved it and didn't realize they were eating leftovers! It was always good, and other than noodles or rice, I didn't have to add much more.
Obviously, I love soups! Im caring for my mom, who is bedridden and has dementia and my stepdad, so these recipes are great for me. Sorry for the long post. Love your channel
Loved your post.
Thankyou for the post.Im from SriLanka.❤❤❤
@@sherryevans2989 Bless you Sherry you have a job on your hands. May the Lord give you the strength and health that you need.
God bless you!!! 🙏
😂
I have an instapot, but I don't use it for soup. When I make soup, I like it on the stove, I like to simmer it for awhile, and taste it several times to correct seasonings. The instapot is fast, but I am 78 yrs. old and live alone, so no rush for me to get soup done.
We inherited the InstaPot we originally gave one of our daughters for Christmas about 5 years ago. My daughter rarely used it, so gave it back to us. I have yet to try it because I am in no need of cooking something fast….😉😊
I rarely use my Instant Pot. I used it a few times when I first got it but haven't even tried most of the features.
@@juditharrington3502 I love my instant pot for making healthy bone broth. Moisture isn't lost like on the stove or crockpot.
Hi the soup was delicious kudos and thank you for wearing a Canadian tee shirt on your show that’s a nice rarity Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I have had an instapot for years and rarely used it until just recently I discovered I could use it to make “boiled” eggs. It may seem silly but I am terrible at boiling them on the stove. I bought the preboiled ones from Costco for years till ours stopped carrying them, then I found a recipe for doing them in my instapot and never looked back!
I appreciate your pace. After watching one of your videos, I don’t feel like I’ve been through a tornado.
Tom, IT'S WINTER,
We love Soup! Keep it coming. 😅😊😊
This recipe looks wonderful!
I have been cooking since I was 8 years old, so, as of next Saturday, that is 62 years. I have some tips for you.
I learned that if I leave the "paper" on my garlic clove, then more of the garlic goes through the press, and it is easy to pull the "paper" out of the hopper after I press. it saves a bit of time and a bit of garlic.
I peel my ginger with a soup spoon. Just turn the spoon upside down, and scrape the finger of ginger with the edge of the bowl of the spoon. A very thin layer of the brown peel scrapes right off. You save a bit of ginger. If I peeled my ginger, I would save the peelings for the stock, but I know you will compost the peelings. I am not sure my compost worms would like ginger peels. I live in a second story apartment, so, no conventional compost for me!
Glad it calls for black pepper. Combining turmeric with black pepper supercharges the health benefits of turmeric.
I will go to Costco and get a chicken. I will take the meat off the bones and make my stock from the carcass. Because Costco salts their chickens VERY generously, I will skip the salt in the recipe.
And, since I am sensitive to wheat, I will skip the pasta/coucous, and substitute millet or barley.
Nice to see that you are combining Souperbowl Sunday with Subscriber Sunday. I don't have any soup recipes. I just throw what I have in a pot. I use fresh or dry leaf thyme. I do garden work for a friend who has a great herb garden. When I maintain the herb bed, I save the prunings of thyme, oregano, rosemary, and sage for my next recipe. Thyme is my favorite herb. I never use ground thyme.
Most herbs and spices have health benefits we don't even know. Our God who made all of those things for us is amazing! I eat foods God created as close to the way He made them as possible. I eat few things that are not made from an identifiable part of a plant or animal.
Very smart lady. I agree with everything you said. Fresh is always better and it doesn't take much space for an herb garden.
Wonderful! Thank you for the tips! I am disabled and on a fixed Income and love soups I can turn Into several meals and freeze. My mama cooked for her 10 siblings and was very poor. She taught me to turn a cheap meal Into a $100 tasting meal. Take care!❤ @ovenbird oh yes.. adding white beans or red lentils would be great Instead of pasta!
Can't wait to try this. Once a week I cook & share with my 94 year old mother who is still living independently. I try to fix something that will give enough leftovers for 2 to 3 meals & all she has to do is heat in the microwave. During winter, she loves soups & casseroles. I have been trying your soups this winter & so far they are a hit. I just fixed your Poor Man Soup last week & we loved it. I'm sure she will also like this one. I enjoy your channel very much. Would like to see a few more crockpot recipes to fix during the summer to avoid turning on the oven.
Hello Tom, Melissa & Peggy - thank you Peggy for sharing this recipe withTom & Melissa to share with everyone! I am sure this soup is great. Thanks for sharing all 3 of you! 😊🙏❣️

Heyyyy! That’s MY recipe!!! Minus the peas, add fresh chopped parsley. DELICIOUS!!
Thank you, Tom and Melissa. And Ty to Peggy T., as well. We just finished a big pot of this because we have all been under the weather. But I am not opposed to making another pot. It’s that good and so easy. ❤️😋
Hi Tom & Melissa! The soup looks delicious. 😋 I love this recipe and will definitely be trying it out! Thank you so much to you and your friend Peggy for sharing this with us! I just have to add that as I am one of your Canadian friends, I love your t-shirt today! God Bless you all!🙏🏻❤ from 🇨🇦
I always put turmeric in dishes that use chicken broth because the broth looks like dishwater. Once the turmeric is added, the broth turns to a golden yellow and is much more appealing visually. Also, turmeric is good for you and can be purchased as a supplement.
I buy ginger in a small jar so I don't have to peel it.
Soup made me very hungry. Great video as always.😊
I'm just learning how to use tumeric. I take it as a supplement and it does help.
Interesting New Soup Recipe and I love having a different soup because I get tired of the same old one 😂😂 Thank you Tom and Melissa for Making it❤❤
We will absolutely be making this one. Thanks for listing the ingredients and instructions for the recipe. It has been a life saver. We bought your cookbook around Thanksgiving time and right before Christmas we had a house fire and lost all of our cookbooks. At least we have your videos to go back and watch. God Bless. ❤
2 things I would do different: use the breast and 1 thigh from a rotisserie chicken, shredded. For some reason shredding the chicken keeps it so tender. Then, because I also use orzo, I know you will need more broth as it absorbs so much of the liquid. My grandson thought he was complimenting me when he said,”It tastes as good as Costco chicken soup.” I still get a chuckle out of that!!
I love the clever way you came up with “Souperbowl”! 🍲
Was wondering what to do with leftover chicken but now I know. Looks delicious
So glad that you brought this series back this year, and I'm even more glad that you've decided to combine it with Subscriber Sunday. This is gonna be fun. Great start. Can't wait for the next one. Hope y'all have a great week.
THANK YOU for this. A good soup recipe. Something good for the soul. A recipe that can stir up good memories, home. The winds here in California! Need this.
Praying for California.
Also praying for people in California
Hi Tom, thank you for wearing a Canada shirt on today’s episode, we Canadians really appreciate it, specially now 🥰
Why especially now?
Thank you so much for this recipe. I am going to meke it when I get a couple of things I don't have on hand. I hope you and your wife have a blessed week and blessed 2025.
Love all kinds of soup. Can’t wait to try this one! Thanks Peggy!❤
Wow that soup is on my list for this coming week. Thank you for being our neighbours. ❤🇨🇦 🤗
I want to say my mom was extremely happy when I purchased your cookbook for her. She has made several recipes from it already. I have to say the stewed tomato recipe tastes great. She watches your you tube show all the time and that’s how I got the idea to purchase your cookbook and best decision I made now I can look forward to those great homemade meals.
I love watching you and your wife I love how yo explain everything and how your wife puts the recipes in the comments thank you and God bless you both from Elkins Arkansas
We really appreciate you watching, and we're so glad you enjoy our channel. You're welcome, and God bless you, too!

The soup looks good! Thank you for sharing my soup with your audience ❤
Guess I'll be making soup for dinner. This looks so good . Thank you for sharing this recipe. And thank you to Peggy as well . Can't wait to try it. 🤤
Thank you so much for this soup recipe. This is good for the soul.❤
We love soup recipes. I know this is going to be good. Thanks for sharing.
This is the best way to take medicine, yum yum!! I love soup all fall and winter long and this recipe looks like a winner. And I love the friendship story that goes along with it…thanks and God bless you guys! ❤
This looks very delicious. I want to try it soon. Awesome recipe and video many thumbs up.
I have an instant pot and a ninja foodie. I love ‘em both. My husband is a pastor and did intrium pastor for years. The instant pot traveled with us wherever we were on a Sunday but my ninja foodie was strictly used at home. I love ‘em both but if I was going to have to choose it would be the ninja foodie.
Looks wonderful? Thanks for sharing, Tom and Melissa. Be blessed!
I have tried many of your recipes and have loved them. I have been trying to purchase your cook book on Amazon but alas it’s sold out. I love your detail on your recipes and think that it helps so many people starting out on their cooking journey. I absolutely love your shirt!! ❤
That soup looks delicious 😋 have a blessed day Tom and Melissa 🙏🏻
Thank you Tom and Melissa for another good recipe. From a grateful subscriber in Northern California. Peggy thank you for sending Tom this recipe! I will be making it this week.
when you get your Instant Pot get the Evo Duo. It has handles on the pot does not turn when you stir it and can be used on your regular stove top. You also do not have to set the valve bc it does it on its own. I LOVE! mine and it is pretty easy to convert stove top and slow cooker recipes to pressure cooker. For your first recipe make 5-5-5 eggs. Then rice. After that you will know all you need to in order to cook meals.
Excited about the new Souper bowl Sunday series. I plan to make this chicken soup recipe sometime this week. It’s the perfect time of the year for soup and more so right now since we had about 10” of snow here in St Louis that seems to be lingering!
Thank you for the soup recipe! Love the shirt!❤
Haha!! Love the tee-shirt! 🇨🇦
Soup looks delicious, thank you for sharing ❤
Looking forward to your soup series! I like to have a homemade soup in my frig at all times. They really hit the spot! I enjoy your channel so much! Keep up the great work!
My daughter gave me a tip on keeping fresh ginger, freeze it ! I’ve waisted so much ginger because it drys out in the refrigerator.
Freeze it in a small freezer bag. You can scrape the peel off and grate it still frozen when you need it again.
Very cold here in Michigan and love a good soup recipe. 😋
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I had just started some chicken soup in my crockpot when I saw your video! I already had everything in except tumeric, rosemary, and ginger, and orzo. I had planned to use egg noodles or rotini, but I had orzo, so I switched. I had leftover turkey from Thanksgiving, so I used that. I did cut the tumeric and ginger in half because I'm feeding elderly parents and wasn't sure about the flavor. Can't wait till dinner to try it!
Looks scrumptious. Excited for Souper bowl/subscriber Sundays
Soup looks delicious. Love watching your videos.
I've been making chicken bone broth in my extra large crock pot to use in my soups over the winter. I'll be using that to make this soup this coming week. I love the addition of ginger and turmeric ❤.
I absolutely love soups. YUM!
I got tired of buying fresh ginger for a little bit and having it go bad. My husband took some and planted it out in the garden and now I have fresh ginger any time I want some! I'd like to have fresh garlic, too. The garlic press has a hopper and a plunger. Steeping pieces of ginger in water makes ginger tea which is also great for respiratory ailments.
How did you know how much I love chicken soup?! 🥣
This recipe is very similar to what I have been making for many years. I will try adding grated fresh ginger and turmeric to my next batch. Thanks for continuing to bless us with your delightful and delicious recipes/videos!
This must be so very good! I can’t wait to try it.
Love me a good chicken soup but I would not add peas. I don't like peas. I personally add more carrots. Love carrots in chicken soup.
And parsley.
Sounds delicious. Just let me say, my insta pot is my best friend. I love the fact that I can get it on and forget it, then when it kicks off my food is done. I can go outside and work in my yard and have dinner cooked for me when I am done. Wonderful, no fuss and no disappointment. I love think you will love it too.
Do you mind sharing the brand and size you have? Trying to do a bit of research for a purchase.
@bowed305 mine is a regular instant pot. About size I really don't know, but I can add 4 quarts to the fill line.
Peggy, thank you for sharing ❤
That's certainly got lots of healthy and good for you ingredients so it's sure to be delicious and something very comforting. 😋 ❤
Just finished cooking this soup. Delicious. I added extra chicken stock (2 boxes total) and extra salt. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
I like watching your videos but we eat different than you do because we are very heath conscious, however I still watch because it’s fun.😁
Sounds delicious! 😊😊
Thank you! I love homemade chicken soup! ❤
Thanks for this SOUPer recipe 🥣 Sounds delicious 😋
I can't wait to try this soup.
It looks delicious 😋
Looks Delicious, Thank you Tom and, Melissa!
WOW. The size of your garlic cloves! I have never seen it that large. I think my 6 cloves of garlic would be about 1/3 the amount you used. A tip I have seen is to use the edge of a spoon to peel ginger.
My family called it a butter knife
It is called a butter knife.
We call it a butter knife here
The garlic that he is using is called elephant garlic. It isn’t as flavorful as regular or organic garlic.
@@elizabethbaldwin8488 mine too.
Hello Tom & Melissa :
Looks yummy !
I look forward to making the soup soon !
Thanks Peggy !
Thanks for sharing !
I made this soup today and agree that it is as tasty as described. I checked the cookbook but will put the recipe card there as a bookmark right along with all the flagged recipes I want to try. Yummy
Hi Tom and Melissa! I love your channel. 🥰. I made this soup tonight for my family….we’re all a little under the weather. It was absolutely delicious! Will definitely add this meal to my rotation! Thank you so much! Oh and p.s. I made that peppermint ice cream pie for both New Years Day and last weekend when we had friends over for dinner. HUGE hit!!! Everyone raved about it! I ordered your cookbook and can’t wait to try more of your recipes!
I got his cookbook for Christmas and it's wonderful easy recipes easy to follow I'm just down to earth and that's what I understand is plain English lol
@ 😊😊
We’re so happy you’ve enjoyed these two recipes. We sure hope everyone feels better soon!
@ thank you so much!! Looking forward to tomorrow’s video!
Hi that was cooked cut up chicken you put in that soup.? Love chicken soup home made . I cook my pasta first adding to soup. Great feel good if your sick.♥️♥️😀😀
Looks delicious! Definitely get an instant pot, and get one with the air fryer feature. I use mine 2-3 times a week to make dinner at work and it works great. I always make soup in mine. Thank you for another great video!
Looked very tasty.
I've never used orzo in my chicken soups. Have to try that! I'll need to double this recipe too. My husband LOVES chicken soup, lol. Thank you for this recipe!
orzo is great, love it in my chicken soup
Thanks for sharing with us Tom and Melissa and to your friend for sharing this recipe with everyone. Chicken soup is always a favorite when the cold and flu season comes around and IS a known healer too. Stay safe and keep up the great recipes and fun you share. Fred and family.
this will be a great soup during the winter months up here in Pa. thanks for sharing this recipe.
Can you please add the Instant Pot directions? Thank you for your recipes! I’m enjoying your cookbook. Blessings in this New Year!
Love most all homemade soups! Don't care for jamblia!!!
We have homemade beef stew cooking now! Which do you prefer, biscuits or cornbread with stew?
Biscuits❤😊😊😊
I am most definitely making this soup. Unfortunately, my body no longer produces saliva due to a disease called Sjogren’s, so my diet has drastically changed. Now I almost exclusively eat soup because it doesn’t necessitate drinking water after each bite in order to swallow. The kicker is I have never liked soup so it has been a challenge to find soups I enjoy. Your Taco Dump Soup is a weekly make in my house but it is nice to have a variety and I think this chicken soup would be a great edition. Thank you for all the wonderful recipes and videos to show how easy it is to prepare them.
That looks delicious and I love soups. This will be great later this week when our high temp in Chambersburg PA will be 24.
Am excited to try this recipe. I had only ever used parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme in my chicken soup recipe . This recipe has me thinking “out of the box” , and the medicinal benefits of this recipe are incredible. Thank you.
Omg you all had me opening my mouth for the first bite. It looks so yummy. Will be making a big batch for the weekend. We're expecting some more snow next week. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
You’re welcome! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Hope it helps you stay warm next week!
Thank you for showing how to grate fresh ginger! I've never done it but you made it look easy!
Do the same with the garlic.
I believe this will be a diabetic friendly soup! Might cut down on the Orzo and peas due to high carbs! But will be tweaking this to meet my diabetic needs! But the other healing seasonings are wonderful! Thank you once again for your amazing recipes!
I made the potato soup from last week for my MIL who lives nevt door to us. She has had pneumonia and she raved aout this soup. I also made the Lemon Cheesecake Mousse thinking she would enjoy something light and she loved it. I promised to help her make it as dessert for her widowed ladies luncheon over Valentine's Day.
lv making soup the instant pot is perfect 4 them…
most of all like the Canada T-shirt coming from Alberta 👍
Wow that soup looks delicious must try that soon our weather has been chilly thank you so much god bless❤
Good morning Tom and Melissa, my brother’s chicken soup is just like this one. The only difference is my brother doesn’t put ginger or turmeric in his. He made your recipe last night just as the recipe says and it was very good. The only thing is I don’t care for ginger that much so the next time we make it we will put a little less ginger in it. Very very delicious otherwise! Thank you again for sharing this recipe with all of us. Keep up the good work and may god bless you both! Alicia
I just found out in the last few days that you have a cookbook out and I am delighted I plan on getting one in the next few days.
Looks amazing! Thank you Doug, Melissa and Peggy. ❤ I've had my insta pot duo crisper for over a year and half now; but only recently started using it lol!! I'm still a bit intimidated by it. I have fresh herbs year round because I grow them in a hydroponics planter and some in containers under a grow light. My ginger, turmeric and garlic are stored in a cold frame. It's just me, so I don't need a lot. Wishing you a great and happy 2025!! Thanks again
Wow! That is a soup packed full of nutrients! I love ginger and turmeric tea....especially when I'm sick. You guys are blessed with some awesome friends.....they pass on some really great recipes to you! 👍
I am so happy that I found your channel. And I love Kentucky. I lived in Kentucky for 5 years.
We’re so happy you’re joining us at the table. Thank you very much for the comment and we hope you find many more videos in the future to enjoy.
In the third week of pneumonia..
I will make this today..
❤❤ From Michigan
Hope this can provide some curing for you.
I am impressed with your real knife! Those plastic things just drive me crazy. I have a couple of the plastic things and just don’t like them. I have a set of the Chicago Cutlery that my son bought for me many years ago and love them. The Chicken Soup looks delicious. Will for sure be making it soon!
