It started when Momotaro hoarded his food& Genki was afraid of him.that leads to her protecting her food.she also uses food to soothe her anxiety.i can relate to Genki.very complicated.outside Kintaro runs up to a high place to eat his food but inside its more difficult.hes healthy.😉💜🦍💜

If I just tossed a bunch of food in my yard my Husky who grew up fighting for food would begin fighting my German Shepherd causing food aggression and meal time would be a battle with injuries. I give them their own dish separated and when they get treats they take turns and gently take it from my hand. Im not teaching them to be human Im teaching them they don't fight and injure each other over food. Mental health pertains to animals oh wait, we are all animals. We may not even be the smartest.

They want her to get pregnant and that is something I do know about. Her belly is so big there is no room for a growing fetus because the uterus will be cramped and premature birth is generally the result. Its harder to get pregnant when a body is morbidly obese. I agree whole hearted. They need to put her on a diet. When her teeth were bad she was very limited what she could eat. Then they fixed her teeth and she is over eating. When she gave birth To Gentaro she was not near as big. Then she had Kentaro and added more weight. When she had the boys her teeth were rotted and infected.Im not surprised they needed to support the boys with addition nutrients. Kentaro is growing and what he gains now will affect his size and health for life. Proper nutrition is now a vague new science

I think they are much more like us than dogs but dogs have thoughts and emotions. They are pretty damn smart too. Well at least mine are. I teach them much the same way I taught my children. Few days ago there's another video that show mom pushed her baby while he's studying so that she could take the treats and kintaro did obey... but this time I guess he knows Genki pattern and we can see how kintaro throwing a tantrum!! He's established his place on the totem poll. Unfortunately, Kintaro has to learn how to hold his own. It's hard to watch at times but remember these are gorillas and they have their ways.

Genki normally has a heart of gold and the patience of a saint.. I was saddened to see her hoarding food from Kintaro. Of course we all witness this behavior from the Gorilla-in-Chief Momotaro, does this have an effect on all the others? Do other gorilla families in other zoos behave this way? I can't help but wonder if having more space would be helpful during feeding time to allow each family member a chance to get some distance from the others with the food they find to eat. Surely the zoo has its challenges, but its something to consider.
Nope I watch several troops and they all will fight and snatch food away from their babies. It's just their instincts I think. I watched a video of Annie tossing food to her mother Ai but it wasn't fruit and she was already done with it. Ozala in the UK snatched food out of her son's mouth lol.

I had never seen Genki as quick as she is now to collect her food. 😝🤣🤣😂 gorillas can be very gentle , friendly and loving but they will never share food with each other. It is a very sad thing to see but in captivity they fight for food.
Wow, they seem to need a lot of food especially the mother, shes always eating. I can't see how they could obtain the volume and the variety of foods they get here in captivity. Perhaps that's why wild gorillas fight for it more.
Oh dear, from what I saw here 1:48 Genki started blocking the numbers game. Then 2:44, 3:06, 3:18 poor Kintaro is alarm screaming like 😵 and for good reason. Clearly Genki was blocking baby 💙 Kintaro from playing the game because she wanted the treats in the dispenser for herself. 3:45 I noticed the keeper did give Kintaro some food to calm him, and counteract Genki's actions, but then 3:57 she slapped food right out of Kintaro's other hand and ate it 😞. I am glad to see dinner was separated to resolve Momotaro from charging at everyone, but I think Kintaro still needs some supplemental feedings for reasons above. Meanwhile 7:50 Gentaro who was also alarm screaming at his father the other day for the same exact reasons is peacefully eating thank goodness. 8:50 I am glad to see Kintaro finally got to play the numbers game. 12:24 Kintaro said, "I am gonna get my treats mom! 😄
When he started screaming- she quickly tried to calm him down. She knows if daddy is close by it would be a big problem. Baby needs his own little section so he can eat in peace.

Then she did her gesture that she does...3:12 bending forward and putting her head sideways to the ground making herself small, "ok I'm sorry." Kintaro having his own section during meal times would be ideal, but Momotaro probably wouldn't go for that, and mom and baby would be very uneasy being separated from one another. Rest assured though baby Kintaro is learning well to hold onto his food, and make a fuss about food being blocked, and has been very vocal lately to both mom and dad. He does forage well on his own, and is very healthy so I don't worry about him much 😌.

I find him fascinating and the way Gentaro has changed with him is so rewarding to watch. He can be a real problem. I saw one video when he was younger during the period Gentaro was really mean play fighting with Kentaro. Gentaro was behind him on the bars gaining on him. When he was right beneath him and Kentaro peed on him. I totally cracked up. That was pretty clever 😆 🤣
I totally agree. Its not natural behavior. They certainly have rules such as Dad is number one and Kentaro is last but the way Genki hoards food is not how they behave. It is how she behaves so they need to make sure Kentaro is getting what he needs. He is ar a growth spurt. He eats then his body gets chunky. Then all of the sudden he will shoot up and be thinner until he gets eats and fills out again only to shoot up. He is a husky little fellow. He weighs about the as much as a large bag of dog food that I cant pick up. You wouldn't think he is so solid. Im so glad that the boys built a caring relationship. They are each others only friend. Gentaro is too grown up for dad to treat him like a youngster and you can tell it make Gentaro sad. Especially when he is almost always ready to play with Kentaro. The look on his face is so sad. He seems downcast but the Kentaro comes along and the game is on. Gentaro would make a good dad someday if he is an alpha somewhere. You can tell the way he treats his brother most of the time.
Poor baby Kintaro 💖😊 having a temper tantrum and rightfully so. He's had to fight for everything since he was a little baby. Especially food. Papa, Momma and big brother always gets the best of him. He being so small. On one of his Birthdays, I remember seeing Genki eating up all of his Birthday treats. Kintaro didn't get to enjoy any of it. I hope the Zoo keepers sneak him some special treats.🙏🌷🦋🌷🦋
Marianne, you're right, he should eat because genki's milk surely lacks nutrients, in fact when he was born, in addition to being breastfed, the guardians gave him extra food. the milk of genki is very poor. So despite some who obsess over Genki continuing to breastfeed, she'll know when to say enough.
They're Gorilla's, it's what they do, they're not humans "and should be polite". Biggest eat first. Kintaro gets what he wants, spoiled. Haha, he's not hurting for nourishment, good for Genki, let him scream haha.

While every one thinks this is light and fluffy, I see sadness & tragedy. In the wild Gorilla's are never hungry and there is plenty all round. To see Genki in panic to get to the food first is so sad to watch, to fight over a computer screen wow I am speechless at to what humans are doing to these majestic animals. Their concrete and steel indoor area is brutal and so filthy. To see a silverback or any of them hang upside down from bars to get food is cruel, where do you see that in the wild???. I would expect so much better from Japan.
But they were born and raised into their environment. I don't think that they would make it out there without room service. However I for one would wish their habitat was made more natural like maybe tree trunk like surfaces rather than the bare steel girders. Just my opinion.

De sólo pensar ,me angustia , que el pequeño como su hermano si no se enferman de muerte, les queda una larga vida igual a sus padres encerrados de por vida, en esas malas condiciones y peleándose por un poco de comida. I’m surprised they haven’t put her on some kind of diet she’s got an eating issue. The rest of the troop including the silverback all eventually get full, stop eating, and relax but genki is almost always non stop stuffing her face. To the point I go wow in any rare clip I see her not eating. Gorillas have pot bellies to digest the food they eat but genkis stomach is enormous. Even after eating all day she still runs at food like she’s been starved for weeks something isn’t right about her and I wonder if it will eventually start affecting her health and ability to climb her belly already almost drags on the ground.

She literally fights kintaro or runs him over to get to food like she’s starving when she’s been eating nonstop the entire time. Some of the last few videos the poor kid spent them running and hiding from his mom just so he could eat if he stayed still she would fight him and rip it out of his hands. It’s not normal and it’s sad to say but she’s a hot mess. She eats circles around the entire troop including a silverback that outweighs her by a 150lbs and a growing male teenager. Her stomach had gotten so large I genuinely wonder how long it’s going to be until it affects her ability to climb if it hasn’t already since you hardly ever see her up on the roof hanging and foraging like the rest of the family.

It's so interesting that the keepers could train them to recognize numbers in the right order.... they should teach them to potty in a designated place. I've seen videos where they're walking over poop and throwing it at each other. That's unsanitary. In the wild they move away from their poop. They're very smart teach them to use a toilet

Maybe Genki eats so much because she's depressed & bored. Lots if people resort to food or drink when they're depressed. It makes them feel better in the moment. If they fight over the computer, you can bet your a** that they're bored.

You mean the strict hoarding of food. If Kentaro got to eat his food in peace it would be much more rewarding to watch that his obese mother rob him of his share of sustenance. The rest of the are big enough to fend for themselves. Genki should be given a diet of food to help her lose weight. You can increase id during lactation but I doubt she can get pregnant as obese as she is and if she by remote chance did she has no room in there for s baby. The baby would be born early and possibly would die. Remove her to a regulated feeding area and then after everyone else has eaten let her out with far less food remaining to be found.

Of course we all witness this behavior from the Gorilla-in-Chief Momotaro, does this have an effect on all the others? Do other gorilla families in other zoos behave this way? I can't help but wonder if having more space would be helpful during feeding time to allow each family member a chance to get some distance from the others with the food they find to eat. Surely the zoo has its challenges, but its something to consider.
Nope I watch several troops and they all will fight and snatch food away from their babies. It's just their instincts I think. I watched a video of Annie tossing food to her mother Ai but it wasn't fruit and she was already done with it. Ozala in the UK snatched food out of her son's mouth lol.

本来、彼らが住んでる自然界だと、餌となる草なんか沢山あるので、親が与えなくても子供はその辺の草木を勝手に食べればいいけど、飼育下だと限られるし、そうもいかないから強い物が独り占めしようとしてしまう・・・まぁ飼育員さんがしっかり管理されてるだろうから栄養が足らないなんて事にはならないだろうけど、なんか可愛そうだが、そっと餌をあげる飼育員さん・・・餌貰えて良かったね😀
I had never seen Genki as quick as she is now to collect her food. 😝🤣🤣😂 gorillas can be very gentle , friendly and loving but they will never share food with each other. It is a very sad thing to see but in captivity they fight for food.
That's not true I have seen silver back dad's and moms share food with the kids.
Wow, they seem to need a lot of food especially the mother, shes always eating. I can't see how they could obtain the volume and the variety of foods they get here in captivity. Perhaps that's why wild gorillas fight for it more.
Oh dear, from what I saw here 1:48 Genki started blocking the numbers game. Then 2:44, 3:06, 3:18 poor Kintaro is alarm screaming like 😵 and for good reason. Clearly Genki was blocking baby 💙 Kintaro from playing the game because she wanted the treats in the dispenser for herself. 3:45 I noticed the keeper did give Kintaro some food to calm him, and counteract Genki's actions, but then 3:57 she slapped food right out of Kintaro's other hand and ate it 😞. I am glad to see dinner was separated to resolve Momotaro from charging at everyone, but I think Kintaro still needs some supplemental feedings for reasons above. Meanwhile 7:50 Gentaro who was also alarm screaming at his father the other day for the same exact reasons is peacefully eating thank goodness. 8:50 I am glad to see Kintaro finally got to play the numbers game. 12:24 Kintaro said, "I am gonna get my treats mom! 😄
When he started screaming- she quickly tried to calm him down. She knows if daddy is close by it would be a big problem. Baby needs his own little section so he can eat in peace.

🤭 Genki looking around like "uh oh" and trying to quiet Kintaro from screaming. Then she did her gesture that she does...3:12 bending forward and putting her head sideways to the ground making herself small, "ok I'm sorry." Kintaro having his own section during meal times would be ideal, but Momotaro probably wouldn't go for that, and mom and baby would be very uneasy being separated from one another. Rest assured though baby Kintaro is learning well to hold onto his food, and make a fuss about food being blocked, and has been very vocal lately to both mom and dad. He does forage well on his own, and is very healthy so I don't worry about him much 😌.

日本の動物園は、環境的に（狭くて自然の植物が少ない）食べ物の独占が起きやすい。台北市動物園のゴリラファミリーを観ていると羨ましいくらいの環境。食べ物の縄張り争いが起きないくらいの広さに緑がとにかく豊か。
親ゴリラはもちろん子供に分け与えるなんてことはしないのだけど、それぞれがノンストレスで、食べ物の独占なんかせずゆっくり食事してるのが見てとれる。
モモファミリーの食事風景は少し切なくなります😢

I find him fascinating and the way Gentaro has changed with him is so rewarding to watch. He can be a real problem. I saw one video when he was younger during the period Gentaro was really mean play fighting with Kentaro. Gentaro was behind him on the bars gaining on him. When he was right beneath him and Kentaro peed on him. I totally cracked up. That was pretty clever 😆 🤣

I totally agree. Its not natural behavior. They certainly have rules such as Dad is number one and Kentaro is last but the way Genki hoards food is not how they behave. It is how she behaves so they need to make sure Kentaro is getting what he needs. He is ar a growth spurt. He eats then his body gets chunky. Then all of the sudden he will shoot up and be thinner until he gets eats and fills out again only to shoot up. He is a husky little fellow. He weighs about the as much as a large bag of dog food that I cant pick up. You wouldn't think he is so solid. Im so glad that the boys built a caring relationship. They are each others only friend. Gentaro is too grown up for dad to treat him like a youngster and you can tell it make Gentaro sad. Especially when he is almost always ready to play with Kentaro. The look on his face is so sad. He seems downcast but the Kentaro comes along and the game is on. Gentaro would make a good dad someday if he is an alpha somewhere. You can tell the way he treats his brother most of the time.

Poor baby Kintaro 💖😊 having a temper tantrum and rightfully so. He's had to fight for everything since he was a little baby. Especially food. Papa, Momma and big brother always gets the best of him. He being so small. On one of his Birthdays, I remember seeing Genki eating up all of his Birthday treats. Kintaro didn't get to enjoy any of it. I hope the Zoo keepers sneak him some special treats.🙏🌷🦋🌷🦋

Marianne, you're right, he should eat because genki's milk surely lacks nutrients, in fact when he was born, in addition to being breastfed, the guardians gave him extra food. the milk of genki is very poor. While every one thinks this is light and fluffy, I see sadness & tragedy. In the wild Gorilla's are never hungry and there is plenty all round. To see Genki in panic to get to the food first is so sad to watch, to fight over a computer screen wow I am speechless at to what humans are doing to these majestic animals. Their concrete and steel indoor area is brutal and so filthy. To see a silverback or any of them hang upside down from bars to get food is cruel, where do you see that in the wild???. I would expect so much better from Japan.
But they were born and raised into their environment. I don't think that they would make it out there without room service. However I for one would wish their habitat was made more natural like maybe tree trunk like surfaces rather than the bare steel girders. Just my opinion.

Aún así el entorno en que los tienen es sucio, descuidado , frío, cemento, lleno de materiales nada amigables para ellos, podrían asimilarlo más a su habitat. De sólo pensar ,me angustia , que el pequeño como su hermano si no se enferman de muerte, les queda una larga vida igual a sus padres encerrados de por vida, en esas malas condiciones y peleándose por un poco de comida. Incluso llegan a comer sin hambre para guardar como reserva por temor a que les falte después. Instinto animal.

I’m surprised they haven’t put her on some kind of diet she’s got an eating issue. The rest of the troop including the silverback all eventually get full, stop eating, and relax but genki is almost always non stop stuffing her face. To the point I go wow in any rare clip I see her not eating. Gorillas have pot bellies to digest the food they eat but genkis stomach is enormous. Even after eating all day she still runs at food like she’s been starved for weeks something isn’t right about her and I wonder if it will eventually start affecting her health and ability to climb her belly already almost drags on the ground.

@@shayshayc3609 nah if you watch some of the other gorilla families the other pregnant or nursing females don’t do that like she does. She literally fights kintaro or runs him over to get to food like she’s starving when she’s been eating nonstop the entire time. Some of the last few videos the poor kid spent them running and hiding from his mom just so he could eat if he stayed still she would fight him and rip it out of his hands. It’s not normal and it’s sad to say but she’s a hot mess. She eats circles around the entire troop including a silverback that outweighs her by a 150lbs and a growing male teenager. Her stomach had gotten so large I genuinely wonder how long it’s going to be until it affects her ability to climb if it hasn’t already since you hardly ever see her up on the roof hanging and foraging like the rest of the family.

It's so interesting that the keepers could train them to recognize numbers in the right order.... they should teach them to potty in a designated place. I've seen videos where they're walking over poop and throwing it at each other. That's unsanitary. In the wild they move away from their poop. They're very smart teach them to use a toilet

You mean the strict hoarding of food. If Kentaro got to eat his food in peace it would be much more rewarding to watch that his obese mother rob him of his share of sustenance. The rest of the are big enough to fend for themselves. Genki should be given a diet of food to help her lose weight. You can increase id during lactation but I doubt she can get pregnant as obese as she is and if she by remote chance did she has no room in there for s baby. The baby would be born early and possibly would die. Remove her to a regulated feeding area and then after everyone else has eaten let her out with far less food remaining to be found.
