This cover reveals the fact that Hey Ya is actually a fucking depressing song about people in relationships today, being content with another person for the sake of not being lonely rather than for the love of that individual.

    My baby don't mess around
    Because she loves me so
And this I know for sure
    But does she really wanna
But can't stand to see me
    Walk out the door
Don't try to fight the feelin'
    'Cause the thought alone
    Is killing me right now
Thank God for mom and dad
    For sticking two together
    'Cause we don't know how
    Hey ya
    Hey ya
    Hey ya
    Hey ya
    You think you've got it
Oh, you think you've got it
But got it just don't get it
    When there's nothing at all
    We get together
    Oh, we get together
    But separate's always better
    When there's feelings involved
And they say that "Nothing is forever"
Then what makes love the exception
Why are we so in denial
When we know that we're not happy here
    Hey ya
    Hey ya
    Hey ya
    Hey ya

Sometimes you give your all to a relationship but someone hasn’t dealt with their demons, and you try to help with them but end up loosing yourself in the process.

Beautiful Cover! "Hey Ya" is a BRILLIANT song; its got a happy energy but its DARK; the lyrics are emotionally complex, the song itself is in 11/4, not 4/4 so its NOT an even rhythm but its so subtle few people notice and people happily dance (off beat 😁) to it, it's just an amazing composition!
The video is actually deep to! Each band member, played by Andre 3000, has an entire back story that relates to the song.

    My baby don't mess around
    Because she loves me so
And this I know for sure
But does she really want it
But can't stand to see me walk out the door?
Don't try to fight the feeling
    Cause the thought alone is
    Killing me right now
Thank God for Mom and Dad
    For sticking through together
    Cause we don't know how
Hey ya! Hey ya! Hey ya! Hey ya!
    You think you've got it
Oh, you think you've got it
But "got it" just don't get it
'Til there's nothing at all we get together
    Oh, we get together
    But separate's always better
    When there's feelings involved
And they say that "Nothing is forever"
Then what makes, love the exception?
Oh why oh why oh why are we so in denial
When we know that we're not happy here?
Hey ya! Hey ya hey ya! Hey ya
    Hey ya oh, hey ya

Wow, these lyrics are actually pretty thoughtful and don't really match the tone of the original song. I'm glad Sleep Token covered this.

    • @TheUsernameDenied
      @TheUsernameDenied 5 років тому +30

The song is written in a way which makes you want to dance and have fun, regardless of what they are actually singing. You don't actually care about the emotions in the lyrics of the song, just the beat that goes along with it.
"y'all don't want to hear me, ya just want to dance"
"Don't want to meet your daddy (oh ohh), just want you in my caddy (oh ohh)"
It's a song about just wanting the good times with a girl and ignoring the problems/commitment. Just like we just want to dance to Hey ya and ignore what the song is telling us in the lyrics.
