I buy whole corn not cracked at feed mill or off a farmer and feed with the chickens layer feed. Corn makes heat in their bodies . The chicken feed is not enough to keep them warm or produce eggs. It really works. Love your blog.
Put heating tape around your water lines and pipes. Your house is just like a mobile home and they use a lot of insulation and heat tape underneath mobile homes. Last night we got down to -14 degrees and our houses water lines were just fine.
Hi guys. If your not getting eggs. Please try this..add hot water to your laying pellets and make a mush like oatmeal and give it to the chicks in the morning and after a day or so you will have plenty of eggs..please try..works well....
@@CantContainUs I'd be very careful with this advice. Although the hens will absolutely love it, there's the danger that if you leave wet food for longer than one sitting it will develop mold/introduce serious health issues for the birds. Definitely do your research and see if this is right for you as you will need to be on the ball with cleaning out the feeder and even give them a different feeder as the gravity feeder will just clog up. I do know people that do feed wet and haven't had any issues, but personally I wouldn't risk it! Give them treats and just let them rest over winter. The girls have a limited supply of eggs, and getting them to lay now will only take away from how long they will lay for.
Ahhhh daisy is sooooo precious!!!! I’m soooo happy that she has healed up!! And that quickly too!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 if u can go all natural with healing stuff that’s the best way to go but yes doctor stuff is good to when needed!!!!
We always feed our birds corn in the winter in Michigan keeps them warmer. They need continuous water to lay eggs when water freezes they wont lay. We put heat tape around our water lines under our house. We had heat tape around our waters for our birds they were metal w a top that came off to refill. ❤❤
You all such good hearted ppl. I love watching you grow and build. So happy for you living your dream. We are building a shed to cabin n will be permanently in thus spring. I can't wait. Love your nails summer Valentines ❤
I lived in Northern Minnesota most of my life I've seen -80 temps without wind chill we got colder than Alaska my thoughts have always been this...insulate and water systems like you live in Alaska and always have 2ways to cook and heat your house
As soon as the girls get some sun again, they will start laying eggs for you. Without sun, no eggs. Nice job with MIss Daisy! Kudos to you for the care you've given her. My hopes you resolve the water issue quickly. Have a blessed week and I'll see you on the next one. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.
If you are having trouble with water pipes or piping please you some heat taping and some noodle insulation around the piping so that it comes on at us cold temperature that could give you some good relief and keep your pipes from freezing and possibly busting
I love daisy, she’s beautiful! So glad you rescued her. Put a long curtain on the pantry instead of a door. It will cover the opening and give you some color.
C’est toujours un plaisir de voir vos aventures, je vous suis depuis peu mais j’ai regardé tout vos épisodes c’est détente assuré bon courage à vous et merci pour ce partage d’expérience
Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to watch all our episodes! It means the world to us to have such wonderful support. 😊 Thank you for being part of our story!
Don't know why your feed came across my UA-cam screen, but glad it did. It was really nice watching you video of building your home, you two are so young and it seems very knowledgeable in construction. Don't know where y'all are at, but we are in Houston and just went through this little snow event, which I cannot remember one of this scale since the early 70's. We don't get none of that here.
Hello 🤗 looks like your weather is like ours here in NW Pennsylvania 🥶 Good Daisy healing - hope good news at vet's 🤞 Good feeling to get the organization done 👍 love your fire stove 💖
I love watching you two! It’s nice that you got stuff organized. Ice is the pits, so is bitter cold. It’s cool that you are learning so much about ducks! I’ve experienced lack of water in the winter and it’s awful. Good luck.
Daisy is so sweet. You’re taking such good care of her. Hope you guys get some relief in the weather soon. Brrrrr Also, hope you get water back real soon.
So happy our female duck is doing so well its all your great care. I am so amazized at how well she is doing truly the queen in your house. The Lord sent her to you all.
I love watching you two! It’s nice that you got stuff organized. Ice is the pits, so is bitter cold. It’s cool that you are learning so much about ducks!
It has been sounding & feeling like most people are having alot colder temperatures. We got earlier colder weather this year in Nevada. Yes the desert freezes. It got down to the teens #. Be safe.
hey guys all I can say is welcome the 2025 winter and I know its cold but its mother nature doing this and its her big plan and we just have to adjust to so relax small moves stay safe and warm and if can make someone smile today because you know you just might change the world
Welcome to CANADIAN LIFE!...PUT A POT OF WATER ON YOUR STOVE....YOUR HOME WILL BE WARMER...you can use a wood stove kettle steamer to add humidity to the room. This can help you avoid dehydration, a sore throat, and other low-humidity health issues.
I wouldn't worry about the girls! Their bodies take a break from laying over winter. Also, the number of eggs they lay will get progressively lower as they age, especially with the hybrid chickens as theyre normally bred to lay as many eggs as possible in as less of a time as possible.
The things we do for the animals 😉. I had a hard time finding a vet open on Saturday morning. Well I finally did and got Wyatt our dog in and found out he has Lyme's disease 😢. He is doing better now on Tuesday.
Yes heated tape and foam coverings like pool noodles( there is a proper name can’t think of it now but I’m sure u understand maybe what I’m talking about???!!!) those r good for your pipes!!! Hope u are able to fix the problem easily and safely and get some water!!!!
ya this cold weather really sucks. we've had -25C with windchills to make it to -36C. Had snow and bad winds last week, 90km winds. It was brutal!! Not having water makes it worse. Chin up it will get better.
Clearly, Daisy is now an indoor/outdoor duck. So.... make a hole in the back of your home into your backyard where she will have access to the outdoors with a pond and some land (all safely fenced for her) and make a cage for her that's a bit bigger than her current kennel inside the house. Then she will have access to outdoors but continue to be your alarm clock. I'm sure it'll be fine 😂😉
Frozen pipes, Ice and sub-zero temps is why I live in Southern California. That and I didn't grow up with that kind of weather, got a taste while I was in the Army (Ft. Sill Ok and Korea) and while I don't pretend to be any kind of expert the taste was enough for me. Never again. I wish y'all nothing but good luck, great positive karma and plenty of warmth for you and your animals. I tip my hat to y'all. I'll keep watching.
Meanwhile in the land down under (Australia) it's so damn hot the deadly drop bears are falling out of the trees 😁 Best wishes and send me some snow, I've never seen any 😊 Andy from Aussie Homestead NSW Australia 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘
I once looked after a duck. She was in my shed fir a while but i had no waterbowl for her. Then i found out about their glands that provide a sort of oil that makes them water resistaned.. they splash water on their back fethers.. it prefends them from drowning..i then started spraying het with that thing you spray Your plants... Maybe a hint???
Here in north Texas it’s not that cold but it’s been in the twenties every morning for the last 4 or 5 mornings and it’s supposed to continue for a few more but it’s not February yet and that’s when it’s worst.
Now also you know or maybe you don't we always get 2 week cold snap where there is big storm and then it get really cold and happen every year in mid to late Jan or the beginning of Feb and to give a story that happen I living here in Montana and I remember back in 90s that we had a few winter with very little snow but bitter cold like -60 over night and I had Keep my truck in my shop plug in to keep warm so start it in the morning so I have live real cold so hang in there
Water is a miserable problem to deal with when you have subzero temperatures, along with everything else that you own. Regardless of how much insulation you have in your walls, there is almost always a pipe full of water that gets frozen inside one of your walls as well. I have lived in Idaho all of my life and seen over a week week or more of temperatures that were in the negative twenty's to fifty's below zero Fahrenheit. You could take a hot cup of coffee and toss the coffee out of the cup up into the air, and it would freeze into a bunch of frost before it hit the ground. I remember going duck hunting in 23 below F weather and having frost build up on my eyelashes so heavily I could hardly see.

Hello Sir, I am a UA-cam thumbnail designer and came up with a creative idea for your latest video that can help improve engagement. I can offer you a free sample first. If you’re satisfied, we can move on to other projects. Let me know what you think!
You two are such good duck mom and dad. That’s why she healed so quickly.
Hope your water thaws quickly.
We are grateful for how fast she's healed!

The framed original drawing is so awesome! She is a very beautiful duck!
Thank you!!

hmmmm well have to look into this!

I give my chickens a whole cup of mealworms right before dark so they get extra protein and I got 10 eggs today
That’s a great idea!
Nice job nursing the duck back to good health. Sorry to hear about the water and hope you get it thawed.
Thanks so much for the well wishes!
If you want your hens to lay in the winter months give them warm water to drink. Love your Chanel. Also whole corn helps to keep them warm.
Thanks for the tip Linda!

You need to look at some of the UA-camrs who drill their own Wells it looks like it's really easy
We have watched a few videos!
I love daisy, she’s beautiful! So glad you rescued her. Put a long curtain on the pantry instead of a door. It will cover the opening and give you some color.
Daisy is doing so much better thanks to your kind words!
Glad Daisy is doing well. Honey work on humans too. -1 here in the hills of Northeast PA 🌡️🌡️

It’s cool that you are learning so much about ducks! I’ve experienced lack of water in the winter and it’s awful. Good luck.
Thanks! It’s been a learning experience for sure but glad we’ve learned a lot from this!
Oh no, frozen water line. That’s going to be a tough one to fix in those temperatures. I wish you the best with it.
It’s definitely a challenge, but we’ll get it fixed!
Daisy is so sweet. You’re taking such good care of her. Hope you guys get some relief in the weather soon. Brrrrr Also, hope you get water back real soon.
Its been sooo cold! We are over it and ready for some sunshine! Thanks for being here!

It has been sounding & feeling like most people are having alot colder temperatures. We got earlier colder weather this year in Nevada. Yes the desert freezes. It got down to the teens #. Be safe.
I’m in Ky and we have had brutal cold, too. Tonight will be our coldest night, then supposed to start warming up.! I’m ready. Stay warm and safe.
ooo hope you guys stay warm!
Downtime can be boring, but it also can be rejuvenating.
Very true!
Add a light to the chicken coop. That is supposed to stimulate egg production.
hey guys all I can say is welcome the 2025 winter and I know its cold but its mother nature doing this and its her big plan and we just have to adjust to so relax small moves stay safe and warm and if can make someone smile today because you know you just might change the world

That's no good, no water!! That's what's bad with those subzero temperatures that sucks!! I hope y'all stay safe and safe warm🙏🙏
It's definitely been a challenge, but we're doing our best to stay positive and warm.
The things we do for the animals 😉. I had a hard time finding a vet open on Saturday morning. Well I finally did and got Wyatt our dog in and found out he has Lyme's disease 😢. He is doing better now on Tuesday.

Humid cold is the worst! I live in WNC and this winter has been much more chilly than anything I’ve experienced living in Wyoming haha 🧊
WOW! frozen everywhere
It is pretty with the snow but it creates so muck more work🥴. Be safe and keep warm. 🇨🇦
Agreed, Hope you are staying warm! Thanks for being here Ron!

Cody, suggest if able too, push residual snow, down too the pond? Cheers
We have actually talked about this!
To cover the pantry
Please, build a large climate controlled green house on top of your container house. Absolute epic content on UA-cam
It's snowing here in North Carolina now 19 degrees 😮
Meanwhile in the land down under (Australia) it's so damn hot the deadly drop bears are falling out of the trees 😁
Best wishes and send me some snow, I've never seen any 😊 Andy from Aussie Homestead NSW Australia 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘
It sounds like you're having a completely different kind of "extreme" weather!
Awesome video guys
Thank you so much Jarred!
Ya'll are having the weather we get every winter up here in the "Great White North."
I once looked after a duck. She was in my shed fir a while but i had no waterbowl for her. Bunker down and stay inside as much as you can. It seems like everyone is getting unusual weather.
Taking the time to slow down and relax!
This will pass and you will be back to your adventures, have a fun evening 😊🌺💕🇺🇲🇺🇲
Ready for some sunshine! Hope you are doing well Doris!

oooof ill be praying for yall!
Did I hear you right, did you say you only put honey on that ducks wound, and that's what heeled him?
Yes! Honey has antibacterial properties!
@@CantContainUs Yes I knew that, but I didn't know that you could just put it directly on the wound. Thanks, I learned something new.
A bit of cabin fever? Me too!
YES!

Wow, that is some extreme cold! We're in it for the long haul and hope it warms up soon.
What’s the story with the extra solar panels?
We bought new ones!
I know! It's 2 degrees here in Indy right now at 3:20 PM. Go away!!! It's depressing!
ooo i feel ya!!
We live full time in a camper and our water lines froze and we have a heated hose. Idk how it can freeze with a heated hose
Why are your water lines in the pond?
you sound like me i'm in louisiana i don't have no water i got probably 6 in of snow. and it is 20 feeling like 13
It's time to drill a well as soon as you can. They are expensive.
y'all ever get the ram sorted (looks like you were able to move it)? what was its deal?
Hey Cody I got a question for you brother what kind of boots are those that you had on that zipped up the sides what kind are those brother
Do you have a website to them or anything like that bro
Hey! They are the Magellan Outdoors Men's Landman 3.0 Hunting Boots!
@ sweeeeeeeet thanks bud
❤
Put a curtain up
What state are they in?
👍👍👍
I think y’all need to get a well then maybe it wouldn’t be you would have water that’s what I invest instead of a hydraulic tractor
We are saving up for a well!
❤❤
🥰
Why not build her an extension off the chicken coop for now then she can be in with the chickens but have her own room.
We have actually thought about this! I eventually want to build one giant coop
🥶💪
Before you know it, it will be the dog days of summer and we'll be wishing for cooler temperatures.
You are absolutely right! Time flies!
Cody, when are you gonna close up the cabinet above the fridge?
Summer are you pregnant? I noticed you keep pulling at your shirt at the belly
Probably in the new few months. And no I’m not pregnant, I’ve just gained weight
@CantContainUs well I'd be excited for you if you were.
