This is the first I'm hearing of this and it makes me sad.
I'm one of those weirdos still doing the DVD mailing because I'm fine having to plan ahead on what to watch and enjoy not having to play the stupid game of checking 17 services to see which had a given piece of media available.
It is so nice just being able to get whatever I want via dvd.
It was mostly just free money for them since I would only get one or two movies mailed a month and was paying way more than I was costing them.
Now I'm just going to cancel the subscription and find... ways... of getting that same content on my plex server.
    YAAARRRRR!

I gotta say, 2023 is looking like a mighty fine year for piracy, all these companies don’t seem to realize what made Netflix great at first (not even Netflix), and that is it had **everything** the consumer wanted available to it. Now everyone and their kid brother wants to run a streaming service so instead of paying for 9 services to watch everything we wanna watch, we either will service hop, or find a truck for the content to fall out the back of.

Having a physical copy at least make it possible for me to go back and watch it again if I want (which happens when I'm feeling down). Netflix doesn't offer blu-ray versions of all their shows that they produce so having a local copy is just impossible unless it's through less than legal means. In the future, an app should exist which combines all the different providers of streaming services. You could search all their collective movie/series in same app/search box and when something isn't available in your current subscription plan, you could either rent it for a day (standard sub plan should include a few of these tokens per month) or subscribe for 1 week/month to new straming service. the streaming should still happen from the side of Netflix/disney/.....
Or maybe based on which stream provider you chose, by the end of the month defines how much money goes to who. That way they would try to make good series/movies.
Back to the real world. None of this will happen, people will start pirating. They will start locking people up again. Industry and people will suffer.

Oh no... My 80 year old parents are NOT going to be happy about this! It's all well and good for technical folks like us, but realistically, for folks not technically inclined, living on a fixed income, subscribing to--and subsequently trying to understand and figure out how to use--multiple streaming services is NOT a viable option.
My father, 80 this year, is still an active consultant in the Wireless industry, but at the same time, he's also had a monthly AOL subscription active since 1989. Ultimately, he'll figure something out, but I'm gonna get a LOT of phonecalls. Thanks, Netflix. :P

The thing about a Harry Potter TV series is there's room to actually capture everything in the books. Books 3-6 movies were basically only the important halves of each novel, and a TV show could actually bring them fully to life. ...which is why I buy my movies on Googles storefront, on sale, to avoid chasing digital media rights. I saw this happening a few years back and decided to stop buying each streaming service for bs content that rotates. If I want a show or new movie, I bootleg it initially and watch it. Then, if it's good, only then buy it when it becomes available. Sad part is, none of the streaming provider exclusives or membership only media are available on Google this way. Which in essence, still legitimizes piracy if media rights and greed get in the way, us consumers suffer. I'd rather "own" my digital collection and watch it on YT anywhere, than having to mess with shared accounts, etc.
I'm all for capitalism, but if it hinders the consumer regardless, it's just a useless way to bilk ppl out of their hard earned money in a time where inflation is only getting worse and content seems to be more gender/political/eco lecturing, rather than being about entertainment.
