Thank you for doing this. I was there in 2016 and it was great revisiting familiar places through this video. It is a very magical place and I'm glad I'll be sharing in your visit.
That is wild and frustrating. i am on the website as we speak, the same website you show at @3:35 and there is ZERO indication of this upcharge for non-residents.
Thank you for sharing about the flight to Galapagos - local versus not! I was just checking out flights last night to price a trip for us (self planning a land based trip) and I completely missed that disclaimer that you highlighted! I can see why you missed it. I didn't see it and thought that the pricing seemed a little weird, but also thought that's just how they do it here? I would have booked it wrong! Thank goodness I saw your video!
Can I ask what month y'all traveled to the islands? I am researching taking a vacation to the islands in June 2024 and have read that the water isn't clear from June-November. Loved the video! Thanks for sharing your journey.
so in total did yall pay around $500 usd just to go there ? $150usd a piece for the airline fee, then another $100usd a piece just to enter through custom, plus $20usd for the ticket pass?
More because that doesn't include our original cost of our ticket! So that was originally like $150 per person. Total would be about $420 per person 😬 but definitely worth it! It was so incredible there.
Maybe you could help answer this question. I'd certainly appreciate it if you could try. How do I make sure I will be able to enter the Galapagos without exceeding the tourist limitations? I keep reading that there are limits to the number of tourists in the Galapagos, but I see no place to find out whether I am going to exceed that limit. For example, how do I know that, once I get off the plane at Baltra or San Cristobal, I will not be told that I have to turn around because I am exceeding the number of tourists? I am traveling on my own, no guide.
Hi! Unfortunately we don't have an answer for you on this. They never said anything to us about this. I am wondering if this is maybe why you need to purchase the plane tickets specific for tourists, so they can keep track of the number of tourists arriving on the islands.
@@the-wandering-wings Thanks for answering! I think your suspicion is basically right. Regardless of whether that $150 fee plus VAT is still in place, the airlines know and can report the # of non-residents.
Hey @marcod345 Where did you get the information? I am about to book my tickets and totally unsure which one to choose as I read different information. Thanks
That’s good info. I’m actually glad locals get a discount. In too many countries locals can’t afford to visit their own native Country. Cheers 🥂
Locals don't get discounts, tourists get charged an insane amount for everything. The same in Perú.

Thank you for tuning in! So happy you felt like you were revisiting these places through our lens, it really is a special place 😊

We were there in October. Not the clearest water we have ever seen but we could still see a good amount of fish when we went snorkeling!
Very informative , did you have to book or buy ticket for the bus and ferry ?
You do have to buy a ticket, but no need to book in advance! You can just pay when you board.
Please, what camera /phone do you use?
Do they have ATM that you can get USD ?
They don’t show an error when buying the tickets as a foreigner because foreign nationals can be residents of Ecuador as well.
I noticed that distinction when looking at the website. Bummer. Unexpected travel expenses are the worst.

They charge $200 for the permit to get to the islands as a non resident.

Did I understand right?- if I will buy L ticket - then I will avoid extra fee ?
May I ask you please. The aditional 150usd at the airport for ticket, they take this a mount for roud trip or 150+150 for both direction?
Roundtrip!
During what month did you get there.?
She said October in another comment
today there is no longer the rate for residents and this option has been eliminated

The Galapagos motto "First world prices for third world quality and service".
