I hope you try again to come to Canada. It is a great place to visit & you will have planned an itinerary and things will go much more smoothly. We have learned over the decades of going south to escape winter for 3 months (we are retired) to always check the US customs web site first, have an address for our destinations for our first couple of days. And give them an idea of when we are returning HOME. Good luck. (. Btw. Canadians have to have a physical home address to access provincial health care, voting and other government services, which Americans don’t seem to need as much.)

Just go to another port of entry this happened to my dad and he was Canadian in 93 depends how ignorant the officer is you come rarely like this happens just go to another port of entry

Check your passport to see if it has been stamped DENIED. If so you may have problems trying to enter Canada again

I grew up in Detroit in the 1950's & 1960's. My parents were naturalized US citizens. We travelled to Ontario a lot to visit friends & crossed Ontario to go to New York every 3rd year. We never had a problem going to or from at any border crossing. While my parents had to show their naturalization papers, I only had to show my Michigan driver's license. Detroit merchants routinely handled Canadian $$ & Windsor merchants routinely handled US $$. I went again in the 1980's on business using only my driver's license. Again, no problems. Many Canadians worked in the Detroit area and many US citizens worked in the Windsor area, all of them crossed the border twice daily. Even though the 9/11 terrorists were not Canadian, border control was enacted. This was a drastic change in the friendly & cooperative attitude everyone had, Canadians & Americans alike. Detroit & Windsor were like twin cities. The current fear driven attitude is ridiculous.

Pepper spray would’ve been easy workaround proceeded to him and tell him to throw away the problem you’re having is we don’t have a permit residence. He said he’s gonna stay for about two months and if you were working remotely while working remotely, even if you’re visiting Canada requires you to have a meeting at work now you can apply for a TRP temporary residency permit that allows you to stay for a total of six months over the course of a year so if you guys try again, tell them you want a TRP obviously don’t take your pepper spray.

You were denied because #1 your brought an illegal item, "pepperspray" #2, you need to have a set plan. #3 your answers seemed like you were lying because you were not prepared with concrete answers. There is a web site you can go to and read ALL the rules!!! We just crossed with 5 RV's in group and they asked Why are you here? where are you going? why did you pick that place? How long are you going to be here? Do you have any weapons or booze? They didnt ask how much we had, but we told him. 6 beers and about 1 total bottle of liquor. We had a gun with us, but we stopped in Eureka and got a storage facility to store any extra alcohol and our gun and amo in.. We told him they were left all. left in storage. All of our group was prepared and all made it through with no issues. NOTE. you can bring a fireman into Canada but there are rules for the size of it, forms to fill out and small fee you have to pay. We just didnt want any reasons for any red flags and thats why we left it. So I guess, next time do your homework.

Next time, plan your answers ahead. No fruit or vegetables, no bear spray or pepper spray, and just tell them that you're going up for two weeks.

I crossed over at the Montana border post, en route to Alaska, Canadians asked any pepper spray or weapons, Yes Bear spray and a 12 gauge shotgun with 20 rounds of double 00 buckshot, It was OK with the bear spray and I paid $20 Canadian for a temporary import license for the gun.

Please read on government website about what you can and can’t bring in to Canada 🇨🇦 and United State of America also had experience with a friend who won’t take his sunglasses off at the border……just to say it didn’t end well for us…. And remember speak when spoken to. Keep you mouth 👄 closed……

Immigrants coming to your country daily, without papers and anything. And there we are, nice American couple with papers, normal ppl and cant travel even for vacation... It should not be like that.

Why do they charge tourist more than locals? Seems like that would deter more tourism?

Lesson learned: Being American doesn't make you automatically admissible into Canada, especially if you give vague answers to a CBSA Officer.

Even as a Canadian i have always felt unwelcome returning to Canada. And not even sure we would get back home. Never had going into the United States.
