Mike these trips are doable for the average person if people just learned to live within their means and plan out these trips. I was taken on road trips often as kid and we stopped to see all the historical stuff as my parents loved history. We didn't go on trips every other month though. It was once a year thing that was planned out far in advance. We also prior to the trips didn't really do anything else but work or go to school. All saved for these trips. So it is possible if people are smart and frugal. These folks most certainly are.
