Logan Halstead I cant tell you how many times I've listened to this song since I first heard it a few months back. Powerful stuff. You have great things ahead of you man, can't wait to get more awesome music from you!!!

As I stand here leaning over my kitchen counter crying listening to this song, The thought hit me That no one can understand what this man is singing about unless you grow up in Or Or near a coal town. Everybody knows somebody that's died in the mines. My uncles owned the Sago mines were the 13 miners got killed. It's in my blood, it's in Logan's blood. It's in his dad's blood, It was in my dad's blood so thick that it took into his grave. I went to high school with Logan's dad in mom. Check Out Sturgill Simpson's version that was just released this last week ... It will be on the 2 volume of the "Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows" series due out this fall ... Oh Boy records is releasing a single from the album every month until its release date ...
I’ve already seen plenty of comments saying this, but gonna throw it out there that you should check out Cole Chaney. A guy from the same area that has that gritty and emotional voice along with great songwriting. I’d check out “Coalshooter” or “The Flood”
I was literally typing out the same thing and then this caught my eye.... those eastern Kentucky boys are killing it lately. One of my favorites and Cole is a great guy period.
This one reminds me of “You’ll never leave Harlan alive” that’s been done by a number of artists but none better than Patty Loveless. A haunting song, but beautiful
Ummmm. This is fucking phenomenal. Let’s get someone to sponsor us to make a mini doc about this kid and we’ll put it on your channel. My god. He’s so fucking good.
These words are so deep. Many people just don’t realize the heaviness of them. Here in WV we have oil fields and coal. My husband goes to work every day not knowing if he will come home. I almost lost him a few times. 1 on a pad he went to every day and that 1 day while almost to that pad he was turned around to get to a pad with an alarm going off on it. The pad he was suppose to be on blew up minutes later. Another time him and our best friends always rode into work together that afternoon they drove home with out our fiends wife. It’s dangerous work and in WV it’s all we have really. But those words man are so profound to me. I never know if this day will be the last time I see him. They work these souls 6 days a week. But the shoulder to shoulder is so real. They’re there for each other in tragedy. If something happens to another man’s family they take care of them for them. It’s a hard life but it’s our life and I love how bonded they all are even if we don’t know another. God bless thank I for choosing this song.
Been waiting for this one. Logan’s doing some incredible stuff. Glad to hear a voice like his. Shout out to the person that recommended this for review.
I'm from Pittsburgh and used to vacation in West Virginia at Cheat Lake. I knew men and boys who lived like this. (They would work summer jobs at the lake to make extra money) Ir I remember when I was 18, first job in the Sony Plant. I used to bitch and moan about how awful it was. Standing on feet all day, 12 hour days. These men and boys over heard me, rolled thier eyes and laughed. I asked my dad 'Where'd they get the nerve to laugh at me." Then my dad told me about their jobs. Kids younger than me working in the dark of a coal mine. I realized right then how privelged and entitled I was. No wonder they called me a "city bitch"
I just found your page bc of this song been playing since I was 15 and I'm 24 now, but anyhow could you please do a video of the acoustic picking video
Bruh at like 2:08 your entire face changes. You're just grooving to the guitar and then you hear his voice and you zone tf in! Love it. Logan is so talented!
I’m from WV and for you to post this was AWESOME of you I just ran across him today I’ve posted a couple of his songs he’s really good I also posted yours here Thank you so very much
It’s not just a concept , it’s real . I saw it , lived it , and when I graduated high school in 93 ,, I joined the Marines and never went back . I refused to put myself in that spot after what I saw my dad go through and all my friends parents . I chose to take my chances dodging billets or dying in a desert than underground mining that black coal . Thanks for mentioning Dwight ,, he’s my all time favorite . 28 years later ,, living in middle Tennessee,, I have no regrets , proud of where I came from , but I found a way out and never went back . I love acoustic guitar , I play around a little but I don’t really play like I want . So I live through you guys . Great content , great channel it seems , I’ll hit subscribe and give you a spin . God Bless Merica 🇺🇸💪,, “now play me something you mean from the heart” ❤️
I want to write a song like this. My father has worked for everything he’s got, dealt with me and my brother (who has Apert’s syndrome), works night shifts as a train dispatcher 10:00pm-7:00am, can barely get 6 hours of sleep on the weekends, 3 on a good day during the week, refrains from drinking or losing his temper, comes and works out in the yard with me because he doesn’t want me to feel burdened to take up adult roles while both of my parents have to pay attention 24/7 to my brother. I love my father and respect a man of faith and hard work no matter what condition he is in♥️👊🏻.
“The Lord (A)bless you and (B)keep you; 25 The Lord (C)make His face shine upon you, And (D)be gracious to you; 26 (E)The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you, And (F)give you peace.” ’
please please check these ones out. You will truly love them and have fun with them. Heading South by Zach Bryan, South Side of Heaven by Ryan Bingham, and finally On The Run by Warren Zeiders. This would make me very happy to see you do these
Thanks for putting me on to thus young gentleman, Appalachia really is forgotten, I miss it but I don't. Also I think this guy is from Boone WV, my girlfriend is West Virginian, when she was 16 years old 30 miners died under the mountain in her town , digging to line the pockets of the company. Justin Townes Earl has a great take on it, called "Lone Pine Hill"
Love seeing Logan start to grow my little brother was childhood friends with him and he lived up our road. Was always a great kid and still a good man! Also great musician, far better than I’ll ever be.
The Folsom prison song you're thinking of - "Dark As A Dungeon" Oh come all you young fellers so young and so fine Seek not your fortune in a dark dreary mine It'll form as a habit and seep in your soul Till the stream of your blood runs as black as the coal Where it's dark as a dungeon damp as the dew danger is double pleasures are few Where the rain never falls the sun never shines It's a dark as a dungeon way down in the mine Well it's many a man that I've seen in my day (uh huh no laughing during this song please it's being recorded) Like a fiend with his dope and a drunkard with his wine A man will have lust for the lure of the mine And pray when I'm dead and my ages shall roll That my body would blacken and turn into coal Then I'll look from the door of my heavenly home and pity the miner digging my bones Where it's dark as a dungeon way down in the mines.... ua-cam.com/video/XsfzCZCFP0Q/v-deo.html

I don't know how to link videos into comments but check out Logans song "far from here"!!! You'll love the detail of the opening line. "When my lips turn cold and purple, and I take my last breath". Love your reaction to these guys!!! I don't know the first thing about playing guitars but I really enjoy your videos.
Been a rough month for me and this song, plus the encouragement at the beginning, has really helped me today. Thank you for the change of pace and perspective today.
Wow 1st time viewer and wow how cool Logan I have been follow following and I have to say I really really enjoy his music and the way he plays is just it gives you a meaning of sitting in front of that speaker just to hear his fingers hit those chords but since the label I got to say I'm not so excited and kind of downgraded just heartfelt Betty had when he was a newcomer and I really enjoyed the older Logan not the new stuff
I’m from WV and to come from Boone County or anywhere in the coalfields, and make it- that’s an accomplishment. If anyone doesn’t believe this about Boone County, look up the Wild and Wonderful Whites. I love West Virginia and I live near the Boone County line on Coal river so I mean no shade.
Hey just watched your review on Logan and decided to subscribe. You are the first channel I have ever subscribed to. I would really like to hear your take on kellen smith cheat grass and clover. I really dig how you like doing song with authenticity. I just stumbled across kellen smith and cheat grass and clover. I am a Rancher and his song hit home deep. Love to hear your take. Thank you and god bless
Logan is a great singer I love seeing other folks from West Virginia getting recognized besides the whites of West Virginia we are more then that. Keep it up Logan. Stay away from Nashville keep your own work.
My Daddy dug coal , he said if I could make a living doing any thing else at all don’t go underground. Many people outside here don’t understand the sacrifice and love of real men who would die for there family
Logan’s from the same state as me and I’m pretty sure is from the county beside me so this song represents all of our lives in West Virginia and just in the Appalachian mountains in general
my Dad said he'ld kick my ass if I went underground, then helped me get my first job in the mines, told my son the same now he's a miner telling my grandsons the same I bet
Just discovered your channel, love it. Just discovered Logan Halstead, amazing musician. at the 6:00 minute mark, your reaction to his words was so genuine. Sometimes ill hear a song and the words hit me like a ton of bricks. Always been a huge lover of lyrics. Awesome video.
Man you gotta do a whole deep dive on the Pembroke Pines, FL 5/22/77 Help on the way>Slipknot!>Franklin's Tower seriously one of the best versions I know of that jam. Full of Phil bombs, and Jerry voids. Gotta give it a go for personal, video would just be awesome.
If you love old coal mining songs then this one is for you: ua-cam.com/video/yuayvQy6sEA/v-deo.html. Cole Chaney is another soul from Eastern Kentucky doing his best to save country music. His first album released last Friday and let me tell you, it’s a dandy! Enjoy!
Love that Yokem song off his acoustic album, you mentioned (whole album is great). I like them coal songs also like Cash’s L&N don’t stop here anymore, Loading Coal and Jim & Jessie’s (The Virginia Boys) version of Paradise. This Kid sounds like the real deal, glad UA-cam is good for something like showcasing these talented up and comers.
Shameless back-pat, a month ago on Boston Levi's video I dropped a "check out Logan Halstead- Cole river" it's great do that one now that he's on your radar
Hang in there Micheal,I also raised 4 boys!!! Manic will be a state of being, till they hit their stride later in the teens (if then!).Thats why I bounce from classical to death-metal and everything in between! Your doing a great job, thanks for the periods of sanity. Peace from an aging hippie guitar player in Ct.
hey michael, i know you do your requests somewhere else, but ik you know Billy Strings check out his song "Cocaine Blues" its wonderful... ik you will enjoy✌
I remember when you were talking about a documentary you watched about the opioid epidemic. Well there is one about Boone county. I don't know it that's the one you watched, but that is where he is from and his song far away touches on that. My favorite song by him is coal River.
Ryan Adams 200 More Miles if for nothing else... the story it tells. I was today years old when I discovered your channel and truly think you will dig it BIG!
You make me discover so much beautiful songs and artists ! A big thanks to you and your community. I’m from Quebec and i love the American country culture ❤
You’re one of the reasons that I play guitar today, never thought I’d see myself on your channel. Thank you so much!
You're about to blow up young Sir. Get those songs added to your channel!

Makes me think of my grandfather that was a coal miner in Itman WV.
This is big Tyler Childers nose to the grindstone vibes
100% even down to the hammer-ons.
Ya I don't mean to hate but a lot of the vocal patterns, cadence, guitar, and lyrical content is just a copy of nose to the grindstone. I knew someone else would pick up on it too
Thats exactly what i thought after the first strum
😂
I love seeing Logan getting more recognized. He popped up in a recommendation and it open the flood gates to Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Billy Strings, Whitey Morgan and the 78's, Marcus King. I didn't know there was so much good music you don't hear about.
Yeh man I have always been a fan of Tyler and I came to Logan from him and Billy 🤘🏻
Go listen to Ian Noe, my favorite is The last stampede!
You might like colter wall l. I'd check him out. Johnny cash has been my favorite my whole life but I think I'm preferring colter now.
Tyler Childers is my friend's cousin. Small world
Checkout Sierra Ferrell, she is also from West Virginia.
That song proves that you don’t need to make a complicated instrumentals to have a soul rending powerful ballad. I just became a fan.
As a father, songs like these hit me so hard. Everything I do is to give my son a better life.
You, me, and so many others, brother. Keep going strong. Our kids won't suffer like we have.
Love this song! Your knowledge and appreciation for music makes your channel the best out there!
Thanks Evan!

Pssh I understand the plight and live nowhere near.
My Grandaddy had the foresight to move his Family out of the Mountains to Florida. He broke that chain.
My husband plays this and I sing to it. And every time, I cry. With sadness and pride and love and hopelessness and a ton of hope. This is all in one for me. Love ya'll
I play this song well… but i have trouble singing it cause it chokes me up.
Is it me or this screams Hard Times by Tyler Childers ? Either way, love the emotion he puts in his song.
Nose on the Grindstone?
You should listen to “cold, damn vampires” or “Oklahoma city” by Zach Bryan
Remember John Prine's Paradise ---
"When I was a child my family would travel
Down to Western Kentucky where my parents were born
And there's a backwards old town that's often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn
And daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the green river where paradise lay?
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
Well, sometimes we'd travel right down the Green River
To the abandoned old prison down by Adrie Hill
Where the air smelled like snakes and we'd shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the green river where paradise lay?
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
Then the coal company came with the world's largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal 'til the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the green river where paradise lay?
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
When I die, let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam
I'll be halfway to Heaven with paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am

The Folsom prison song you're thinking of - "Dark As A Dungeon"
Oh come all you young fellers so young and so fine
Seek not your fortune in a dark dreary mine
It'll form as a habit and seep in your soul
Till the stream of your blood runs as black as the coal
Where it's dark as a dungeon damp as the dew danger is double pleasures are few
Where the rain never falls the sun never shines
It's a dark as a dungeon way down in the mine
Well it's many a man that I've seen in my day
(uh huh no laughing during this song please it's being recorded)
Like a fiend with his dope and a drunkard with his wine
A man will have lust for the lure of the mine
And pray when I'm dead and my ages shall roll
That my body would blacken and turn into coal
Then I'll look from the door of my heavenly home and pity the miner digging my bones
Where it's dark as a dungeon
way down in the mines....

Hoping your days are getting better. You are awesome!
I just came across this particular video and instantly became a fan of Logan.
Tyler childers rip off.
WV/Kentucky coal mining area producing some heavy hitters. Suffering makes great art, they say.
I love that this song and this artist is able to just capture the raw emotion and feeling of entrapment. So good!
Hey Michael, react to Coal River by Logan, in my opinion its a better song than this, and has way less views for some reason.. check it out!
My Daddy dug coal , he said if I could make a living doing any thing else at all don’t go underground. Many people outside here don’t understand the sacrifice and love of real men who would die for there family
Good job... dissect a song.... next time Try harder.. At least, learn the chords and lyrics....
Please check out Cole Chaney coal shooter, or flood. You are covering Appalachia finest in your reviews
Take a listen to Amigo The Devil the song is Cocaine and Able very awesome right up this channels alley.
So glad you finally reacted to this! What a great song and a great young lad
definitely see this kid takes most of his play style and song styles from tyler childers. it’s cool that’s they’re from around the same place.
My dad, his brothers, and his dad were all miners. All of us kids were able to stay out of the mine.
So glad you did this one! Been obsessed with this song for weeks
Came back to listen again... Beautiful. Thanks.
If you love this topic you'd love Tyler Childers's song Coal, it's so good

Just discovered your channel, love it. Just discovered Logan Halstead, amazing musician. at the 6:00 minute mark, your reaction to his words was so genuine. Sometimes ill hear a song and the words hit me like a ton of bricks. Always been a huge lover of lyrics. Awesome video.
In Folsom Prison Blues has the song you're looking for
Man you gotta do a whole deep dive on the Pembroke Pines, FL 5/22/77 Help on the way>Slipknot!>Franklin's Tower seriously one of the best versions I know of that jam.
Enjoy!
This one has to be covered!
