I enjoyed this video a lot! I am pumped you decided to narrate it! I think you will do great with them. An aquarium that constantly changes because of the behavior of the fish is really cool! I look forward to further updates on them and your other aquariums! I am glad you are back in the game! If you ever decide to put adds with your videos making videos 10 mins long allows you to place adds at what times you want throughout it at the times you select! If you get back into it I thought you would want to know that!
Hi Adam... this is so cool to watch them move their homes around.. making little neighborhoods.. really fascinating. This is one cichlid I have never had but really love watching them so much! Excellent video.. =D The escargot shells are really prefect. I hope you got to enjoy them first lol
DebTim A CANADIAN Girl Hello Deb. Thanks for watching. They're pretty fun so far. You should give them a try someday. I'll eat just about anything, but these shells came empty, lol. Hope your big project went smooth...
If you keep 1 or 2 (MAX) Males in that tank you will get lots of babies.. Great looking tank.. When it comes to Shellies, a species only tank will be Best if you're wanting to breed them.. Usually they make Great parents.. With 2-3 shells per fish, they will be breeding before you know it.. Thanks for Sharing..
Do you mean your original plan was to put some julidochromis ornatus in the 30g tank with the multies? I think you made a good decision to go just with the multies, but I wonder how that would have worked out?
once they start producing fry... you'll have hundreds of them non stop! LOL These guys are fun to watch. I love doing tank cleaning and hitting the "Reset" on their home.. 2 days later it back to mounds and holes hahaha
AJK Aquaria nope not at all hahaha it takes me hours to find music that isn't copyrighted and shit .... seriously it takes me ten minutes to do a video and 24 hrs to find the music haha
PsychedelicBabe I've used a lot of M83, some Solar Fields & Peter Gabriel. Music from Halo, Mass Effect, Darksiders, etc. I realize some people want to make some money from their videos, and that's great. I don't care about that. I don't get many views, and I hardly make videos. Anyways, the video was about a shell dwelling cichlid from Tanganyika. I was fairly intoxicated for the entire commentary. Some parts should have been redone...
@@AJKAquaria mine still have no Bred yet and I have two pairs ( 1 male has 2 females). I feed them black worms. Sometimes I wonder if they have fry not surviving and I’m unaware
@@degaresaquatics If you're confident you have females, just be patient. Let them settle. I remember moving mine around, and when I did, it would be quite some time before they'd start breeding again.
Looks great! I'm doing a video on fish intelligence and fishkeeping responsibility. Can I use a clip from your video? I'll give you credit and put a link to your channel!
Assuming they didn't treat it (which is probably the case since it wasn't mentioned), the aragonite sand and shells in there are going to buffer it up to 8.0+. In the wild these guys want something like 9, but tank-bred ones sometimes can go lower and still be happy. Shoot for high pH, you really can't make it too alkaline for this species without using crazy chemicals like NaOH that should be nowhere near a fish tank haha.
Really old comments here, but just in case anyone ever reads this.... I did not buffer. I did not use aragonite. I do not believe in buffering your water if your pH is steady and above 7.2. The use of crushed coral & aragonite is basically useless if you already have these conditions. With the amount of water changes required for cichlids such pH boosters (if needed) are best kept in the filtration as a media to maximize it's effectiveness. Now if you're buying a bunch of wild tropheus straight to your door you would likely want to boost your pH for that initial introduction. Then slowly ween them to your own tap water source, provided it's above 7.2.
AJK Aquaria Slowly growing lol. My 40 breeder I have my pair of Altolamprologus Calvus White Chaitika that are like 2". The male keeps the female hiding all the time. Gotta add something else to the tank. I know I can't do these guys but hopefully in another tank at some point. Love how they make the tank the way they want it.
AJK Aquaria Apprently I like buying slow growing fish haha. My buddy Trevor who owns The Wonder of Cichlids in Mass has a bunch of different Tanganyikans I could go with. We will see.
smorc655 Sorry for the late reply. Tank raised Rift cichlids usually fare well without buffers, provided you have a stable pH that is over 7, but preferably above 7.4
Wonderful filmed Tank and fascinating Scenery with a great soundtrack! I enjoyed watching very much! A Biotope Aquarium at its best! ❤
Nice video, really enjoyed the African music, also the black background on the tank looks great. Do you think these fish would do OK in a 20 long?
Yep they only need a 15!
Good video! Very interesting. Great little fish for someone who doesn't own a large tank or have a lot of space.

Great looking tank! I love little shell dwellers. Great little fish. New sub here.

Aman's Aquarium Thank you. Definitely went for a natural look
Best music choice for any African cichlids I have ever watched, and i have watched most lol
Awesome dude!
Loved it. I may just start a shell dweller tank after seeing this.
You wont regret it
I know this is an older video, but do you happen to remember what light is on this tank? Love it.
Thanks. A 2' current satellite freshwater+ led
Great video

These ended up being all males. I added some girls after we moved. Remnants of this tank are now in 180 Tang Community. Thanks for watching.

The black background ties this all together. Nice.
inventoryking Thank you Paul!
Holes in my plant leaves aquarium coop
Bob Nelson huh?
Awesome tank. What did you use for the black background? I’ve used that spray plastic but it’s so shiny, which I don’t like. Thanks!
Sorry for the late reply. Rustoleum Glossy black. Oil based. Roll it on. Like 4 coats. Gotta do it outdoors though.
Thanks for shearing. Very impressive. How this tank is doing now?
josseyt All these turned out to be males, even though 2 were inseparable. Removed all but 2 and added some hopeful females. Still waiting....
I might have missed it,what did you use for sand?
louverdudski pool filter #20
Thank you!
Awesome!

What do you do when there are too many fry
Pretty cool how big they get
Yea they really are tiny
Sorry new to u tube was trying to search something nice tank
What music are you using Adam ?? Says it's not available to me 😓
That sucks
The first bit is from the 'Blood Diamond' soundtrack. Don't remember the 2nd. Some African type ambient. Sorry...
No one has ever mentioned that to me before.
I always use the music that I want to use, ya know? I believe you do the same...

How long does it take for them To get comfortable and shift the sand and shells around ?
From what I recall, they did not wait. After a couple days they got to work.

Multi's are an awsome little fish. it's never a bad thing these little guys will always change your land aquascape to their liking.

I know this was quite a while ago, but what ph did you keep this tank at?

Amazing. I wanna get some someday
J Spalding They're worth a shot and you can set them up in a small aquarium. How are the Sapphires doing?

J Spalding Nice. I've been to his FB page. His stuff looks top notch
AJK Aquaria Best around imo.
do you buffer the water at all?
smorc655 no I do not
Thanks for letting me know--it seems like lots of Tanganyika keepers actually keep their Tangs in regular old tap water just fine!
smorc655 Sorry for the late reply. Tank raised Rift cichlids usually fare well without buffers, provided you have a stable pH that is over 7, but preferably above 7.4
Anyone who can tell me how many multis I can keep in a 60x30x30cm aquarium?
Start with 6 juveniles and if you have a female you'll have loads of them within a year
Careful about ammonia spikes with these guys, they live in high pH (8.5+) so even a small amount will be toxic.
You can get 36 for your right one
