- In this video Matt and the Fox Body Mustang, having been sorted as good as it will ever be, head to Dream Racing's Las Vegas Motor Speedway infield track to find out who has the fastest project cars from an assortment of UA-camrs, on an invite from Rob Ferretti. Matt gives his on-track impressions of the Mustang, and sets his own lap time, then hands off the keys to LeMans GT2 WInner Justin Bell for his impressions and the 'official' lap time.

"Either I lose, in which case I'm down 200 horsepower; or I win, in which case *LOLOLOLOL* "
That evil evil childish laugh!!! I love it!! Any time you hear Matt laugh like that, you know he's having a good time. I loved this video!!
laugh out loud out loud out loud out loud
If your car makes Justin Bell make HNNNNGGGGG noises when he's driving it, you've done well.
I'm not so sure if that was a happy noise or a nervous noise but either way it is still impressive.
im not sure if it was him making that noise. i heard it too tho
Probably him fighting the G forces
Matt, I just wanna say I've been a fan of tst since the beginning. I love this style of video. I love your narration over the different parts. I understand why you do the one takes, but man I miss this style of video on the channel. Thank you for all the years of FREE content.
if you really wanna say thank you, go buy your boxers, watches, and ballpowder!
Matt deserves it
Thanks! I wish I could make a lot more videos like this. The math simply isn’t there. But I’m glad you liked this one.
you rock matt!
"If your car catches on fire, did you really win?" - Matt Farah
Simnett Nutrition yup he won.....fastest time & every one else didn't follow the rules and rob dahm was pure cringe
Sorry I didn't follow the drama - what rules were broken by whom?
"I got smokey brakes" - Matt Farah
YensR spaghetti said r comps aren't street tire, and e85 isn't pump gas, which are both kind of rules bent rather than broken. E85 was gotten from the pump and r comps are street legal tires, just not the treadwear spaghetti was imagining
"Winning is winning"
This is the video I was waiting for. Out of all the cars there I was most impressed with the mustang. Another 200hp and it would have made up the time it lost in the straights and slayed everyone. I have-watched everyone's video and the one guy that stood out negatively was Rob F. He just complained and complained even though he won his own event. He made his C5 out to be this unicorn track slayer, yet a 270whp mustang foxbody got within a few seconds. No, your car was the most impressive, and your video was the most impressive. Thank you for being there, and thank you for your unsalted take on things.
One second in a lap time is a lot when the laps are less than 2 minutes. 2 seconds means the car would lap your car in 30 laps.
mbsnyderc, you're not wrong, 2 seconds a lap is a big difference on a lap that short. But the horsepower difference alone is enough to make it extremely impressive anyway. Not to mention the fact that it's a Fox Mustang going up against a C5 Corvette and it's far and away the most reliable car there.
it's rob dude. he's just a bit of a whiner.
Still got to call it as I see it. Not going to give the guy a pass just because he's a big UA-camr and I need to play nice with everyone so they might like me and send some subs my way. I absolutely railed on him on his whine video. I'd rather be who I am than fake it.
I think Matts car was the second most impressive. TommyF had the most impressive imo because he came so close to winning with a totalled car.
definitely the highest production quality of anyone in this challenge lmao the difference is staggering.
SforSytosis tommy said in his video the dude is an animal, I guess he was really well organized and ready for everything. This videos shows that forsure
Yes!
David Patterson didn't do a good job then? lol get outta here
I love how Matt's face lights up when Justin Bell is saying the same things about the car, gotta love that feeling of a professional driver telling you that your car is sorted!
was thinking the same thing!
Now he knows what it feels like when he tells an average Joe *their* car is done right as well.
Club1n No doubt. This was a pretty extensive build for Matt and much more than he expected or even wanted at first but he sure did it right. All the parts and set up on this car is just about perfect. Having a pro driver like Bell give the car rave reviews makes you a happy Papa.
Lost a lot of respect for Rob's channel. I thought this was going to be a proper event showcasing the cars. Something like a motortrend "ignition" This edit is WAY better than Rob's and it was his event. Rob's looked like a bad vlog. No straight line event, I know Dahm "tested" or some excuse why it got canceled. No VBOX or at least multiple cams like Matt. Matt's one takes are bettter than robs "edited" video. This was hyped up like it was going to be something special. Should of had Matt edit the whole thing or someone like Damon "DDE" film this, can you imagine if he would have shot this.
m gracing Right? Spaghetti hyped it up like it was gonna be a serious event but in reality it just looked like a group of friends renting out a track and doing some laps. I still enjoyed it and it was dope to see everyone's cars on the track.
100% Still fun to see, just expected a little different. Would have loved to see Track, 1/4, 1/2, autocross(short tight track), figure 8, etc. Some combination of those. Each car has its own areas that are great.
Glad your Mustang ended up being praised so much for the handling
Foxes can be great handling cars but everyone goes the drag racing setup so you'd never know it
Cammed small block windsors sound SOOOOOOO good. It's good to see a notchback Mustang built to do something other than to go in a straight line. Good job Matt!
I was waiting for Matt's account of this event. The other guys are just too gimmicky for me.
MC1796 I found David Patterson's video pretty good. Very straight up.
Yeah Patterson's video is pretty good. He shows when Rob's corvette starts to melt.
the only gimmicky people are dahm and rob. tommy doesnt play games and i dont watch dp that much.
Matts video commentary and editing is light years ahead of the rest.
lmao of course. shaddap and expand your horizions.
Bell was driving that thang like it was his lol second lap he figure the car out with no problem....Great driver
Lol at the moaning sound Bell is making 😂😂😂
It sounds like he's making race car noises...while driving a race car
When you have a song stuck in your head that just won't go.. :')
fucking lol, perfect description.
Joey Lavoie yes lol
Rafael Mejia ya, its taking some effort to drive the shit out of it. Lol
Love the comments by Justin Bell. Love also that it beat a GT3 time.
The good 'ole Foxbody!
CreateYourWorth yup
Rob Spaghetti got way too much salt in his sauce over this whole event. He comes off so grating in his videos.
You didn't win if your car caught fire.
The_Doctors_Tardis Rob Spaghetti pretty much told Justin Bell to overheat the car stupiditly.
I'd say he won, it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winnings winning.
It finished it's laps, catching fire after you win is still a win, it was a fast lap competition, not an endurance one and Matts car needed time to cool down too, if he'd told JB to go back out his might have burst into flames as well but Rob has a more reckless streak to him than Matt does.
I like matt AND Robs videos, they are different styles and cover different things but you don't have to be a fan boy of either, just enjoy both.
The_Doctors_Tardis well the biggest loser is the rx7 lmao a turbo 3 rotor that can't beat a cammed fox with Bolton parts. all show no go
Sadly true, Gomez. Makes the mustang look economical and reasonable as a Camry while still being faster.
Jesus his steering inputs are like when I drive a racing game with a controller. 😂
Most enjoyable video to watch of the event Matt. Much respect
Who else misses the old smoking tire intros with the calming music
👍👍👍👍👍 this guy
Is that race car driver humming on braking?
Matt Farah - "BBI Autosports corner balanced the car for me at 255 pounds..."
Jim Carey - "Yaaaa, in your bra!"
Your interior fabric is so money. Been waiting for this video. Nicely Done!
Tell us how good you think your car really is don't hold back.
Ben Meadows lmfbo
Man those seats and door cards are awesome! Nice job on the Fox Matt!
Good lord, those seats are amazing. 1:12
TommyFyeah sent me, good shit matt
Holy shit I haven’t heard voice over in a while. Love it.
9:09 You're a legend hahaha
Super impressed Matt. Would you ever consider aero modifications? Maybe venting the hood as well?
turbomopie the hood is steel and weighs about 50 pounds. I would consider some kind of vented carbon hood if I could find one that wasn’t hideous.
TheSmokingTire check out the hood on my fox. Very similar build but I did some subtle aero mods. Mach 1 chin spoiler, Steeda aero spoiler and had Kaenen custom make a vented cowl hood. Everyone loves it. Let me know what you think and if you have any questions! ua-cam.com/video/EBaJxtvWNsk/v-deo.html
Kye Dohlman That was a sweet Fox you’ve got there!
Ola Justin thanks!
Cracks me up how much Matt loves that car, even 200hp down, he could careless.
That fox is down right sexy as fuckkkk. I'd take that clean fox over anything out there any day. (I am biased, my fist car was a cherry 93' coupe)
Jason Dowling ...be a hard choice IF the R32 wasn't wrecked...that things pretty sorted too....
I usually can't stand muscle cars, but damn😍
But Dahm? :')
It's more grip than muscle 😂
...Pony car...
Well it's not a muscle car so, yeah. If it was a muscle car it would weigh 400lbs more and it wouldnt be handling so well
How DARE YOU!
Justin Bell is really sawing at the wheel. Looks like a handful to drive.
Much better than a OneTake. That car looks like it is a handful at full tilt. Bet it is a blast to drive.
Is that steering rack made of rubber :P
You’re the only guy I don’t mind listening to out of this whole challenge. Everyone else’s just felt scripted and annoying.
Here for the Popcorn TDiB too. He is a far younger dude and has more youthful enthusiasm which I appreciate.
Here for the Popcorn because they are. They are random UA-cam kids that got lucky and became "car reviewers" over night. Matt is probably the only actual professional one there.
CK_32 I think david was the only car review channel there, all the others are just vlog style channels
I have a Track prepared Fox mustang myself, same color and everything. Very similar to yours but with 310ish WHP. I have Fully MM suspension, but I have the solid axle still. I ran personal best of 206 at buttonwillow. Im guessing you could get down to 204. I have a video of my car on track at button willow if you want to check it out. Peace.
I was the lead test driver for @MaximumMotorsports when they were working on this car. After Jack Hidley did the initial setup calculations, I was the first to drive it hard. I requested slight spring, damper, and swaybar changes to make it feel better for the street/canyons/LA roads/ and track. I was really happy the way it turned out at the time. I also recommend a different brake master cylinder. We never tested the car on the track though. It sounds like we/I hit the mark!
The goal was if an inexperienced driver drove it it would understeer if driven to hard into a corner to keep them safe, but an experienced driver could easily balance it.
Matt, I couldn't be happier with yours and Justin's comments!
Sucks that this video isn't blowing up. Seems like average/below average views right now. This is the best kind of content but if the views aren't there, then it's not logical to spend the editing time without the returns.
This was the best sorted car of the whole deal. The R32 GTR was just about as good, sorted. The others have a long long way to go. One belongs in the junkyard. LOL
I love how Matt was just excited about everything. Especially when Bell was saying how well sorted his car was. Or getting a better lap time than a gt3. It was really refreshing to see after all the hate Ferreti was spewing (especially twords Dahm) the whole and how salty he still was after "winning".
To the people saying winning is winning. You are correct. He won. Hopefully the tow truck won't take to long. We'll see ya later, champ :)
AMERICAN MUSCLE on the track. Everyone keep that in mind.
That moment when a fox body puts down a quicker time than a 240sx and RX7
Mustang is nice, but a Fifty Fathom Blancpain!? That watch is like $10k.
Second. Fuck
Matt your car is the only one that makes me miss my 93 LX notch.... Happy for you that it performs so well!
I didn't knew Matt worked for the IRS. No wonder he has the time to fuck around and shoot these videos.
Coyote swap that Fox! Oh boy! Would it be a track monster!
Abel S550 GT I found a Complete Shelby GT350 power train on eBay for $17000
TheSmokingTire 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 Now we are talking! 😁 Voodo 5.2L and tr6060 combo on the Fox! It is something to really watch scream around a race track!
@TheSmokingTire Are you going to buy it sir?
Jimi Mark i hope he does!
Aluminium 302. Over 100lbs lighter for $4k still using the light ass t5 transmission. The car could potentially be less than 3 thousand pounds.
I don't care what anyone says, I'd take that Fox Body over any of the other cars any day!
Matt, really wish you were going to Florida next week for the shootout
I want my Fox to almost 100% mimic your build.
you need a centrifugal Matt!!!!! intercooled D1SC low boost be perfect and predictable.
Put a crowd closer to the track and it wouldn't be so "sorted"
I'm really surprised you don't have a bigger motor. Maybe enough for another 100 hp n 50-75 tq
Matt thank you for this video i allmost had second thoughts about watching due to dramma on other channles, i thought i saw enough. I love your version of these events i will not second guess watching your stuff again, real car content allways!!!!!
The perfect Fox Body... love it. Only thing I would do different is slap on a cobra bumper with amber fog lights.
To be honest out of all the cars there, the fox mustang is the coolest. And that's coming from a die hard R32 fan.
ouch.
The mustang is sick! It’s been cool watching you slowly get it to this point. And it looks badass
Matt, that car would be even more killer if you took that 302 and touched it up. Throw some big AFR heads on it with a Solid Roller cam. I've got a similar set up in my 71 Mach 1, .600 lift Solid roller cam and then AFR 165s, the thing roars out to 7000rpm and still has more to give. And it can't be much more than 400 crank hp. Bigger AFRS could get you 50 more
My dyno tuner is a genuis with foxes, and says I need the AFR heads and a new intake manifold and mass air meter for 350 WHP and that should do it. Have to keep the cam because it's CA Smog legal. I was honestly just happy to have the thing running good, and now I can work on the power stuff, which is much easier than the chassis setup.
Sounds like a good plan Matt
I heard you ran faster than Justin Bell ran in your car.
frenchie5k I was told that by one of the timing guys at the track, but when the data sheet was sent over, it didn’t support that statement. So rather than make a claim I couldn’t back up, I went with what was on the data sheet and assumed the guy at the track was off.
I hate when that happens
"THE IRS" FUCKING DEAD 😂😂
I helped my buddy engine swap a fox body once. What a great car. Loved it
Matt, Justin Bell is a perfect candidate for your western Best Motoring. This makes me think of the segments where they'd have the pro drivers run against the owners of the car to see who's faster. I'd die to see Justin rip on more, regular home built tuner cars. I'd willingly offer up either of my cars to hear his opinion. Tell me what a wet noodle my Mustang chassis is but hey it doesn't blow up after 20 min sessions. Getting the feedback is awesome and it's amusing when owners think they have some incredible machine but it can barely handle a couple laps. Loved the video and capturing Justin's 10/10ths noises is fantastic.
Those Recaro seats are sexy af!!! The whole car was done with great taste! Glad to see your build on the track Matt!!!!
Since the war was set up to your weight, perhaps the car would of run faster with a couple of weights added to compensate for the lack of? The car was nervous with Bell under the seat and it could of possibly be that the car's balance was off. Also for reference it would of been nice to have a regular car lap the circuit with Bell under the seat. Anyhow seems like the Fox needs a front splitter and some kind of downforce at the rear to keep it more stable, no wing I know it kills the look. I am sure it cango faster still with some little extra modifications. The car might only have 270 wheel but my God does it sound good.
I like the camera positioning where you can see the driver inputs. Try this for one takes??
Totally should've won this challenge man. Put 380whp and some light front aero on the car to calm the front end down, work out the brakes and pound this thing like a Tinder date. Every other car in this challenge was embarrassing. Considering all you guys are check writers, while Dahm is a hack who talks a good game but is a hack...I was rootin for ya in this one. Step the foxbody game up a little further and make this car a force to be reckoned with.
Less front aero.
I love that demeanor that Justin Bell has, that all racing drivers have really - it's that 'I'm used to concentrating while driving then talking about what the car is doing to engineers and mechanics". It's superbly analytical :)
Well done Matt, you've built a very balanced car! The vid turned out awesome as well!
I remember back when I was watching Davids video, I was constantly wondering how your car did and what Justin thought of it. Its definitely on the more unique and complete side of things, from all the cars out there. So glad to see and hear it did so well! Now, get that +100hp upgrade and put a hurttin' on everything else!
Thanks for staying focused on the challenge at hand and avoiding the bullshit
If it’s mine, I’ll keep it this way. If you add power, your gonna ruin the balance. I think you can put stickier tires like semi slick.
Now, why couldn't the other entrants videos about the event have been like this?
Fack, he was groaning lol. Says it all. Drove the living shit out of it!.awesome. And people say you can't corner a mustang lol well maybe without a shit load of break, and suspension work. But that thing did amazing. Enjoyable to watch
Such a nice build I love everything about it especially the seat. The only thing I don't care for are the gauges. I think some factoryish looking VDOs would be more in tune with the classy build this is.
Good stuff man, wish I could have joined you in the fun!
The moan of Justin Bell
couldn't you adjust the brake pedal Matt, not sure if your Mustang has that ability. I recall my EP3 having it.
I remember that Matt used to associate with Rob F, years ago. Did southing happen between them?
My 91 Canadian made Foxbody had a jasper racing crate 302 with factory accessories(exhaust, intake, throttle body, etc) , would run 12.0 on bfg Supersport tires on no prep track, trapping 120mph.
Awesome car Matt !! Fantastic !! Educational watching Justin drive,
Hey Matt, I know you spoke of in the past of keeping the 302 in order to preserve the feeling of the car. Obviously if you swapped the motor it would not feel like the car you drove in high school in anyway.
But hypothetically, if you wanted to gain 200+ horsepower now would you modify the 302, and sacrifice being N/A or swap the engine. If you did a swap would you prefer an LS, LT, or Ford Aluminator engine.
Felt like those tires were so grippy it made it hard to drive. I think the idea of making it rally like is a good one Matt, but you might need something extra to help deal with the loading problems. I don't know what can be done for that kind of stuff on a car.
I wanted to say that you're chopping at the wheel, but it seems it let's go abruptly. Where's the volumetric blower, I mean when?
Yesss! I have been waiting for this madness my dude. The car looks and sounds great. You can get more cooling with a Ranger airdam, boxed radiator and shortened 2010 GT500 heat extractor, but you probably know that. Cheers mate! Can't wait for BW my dude!
Why was rob so salty towards you guys especially rob dahm. Btw your mustang is super freaking clean and sounds sinister.
I can't believe you got within half a second of a Le Mans winner... O.o
Built a 96 cobra with IRS and Maximum Motorsport chassis. No engine work. Great well balanced and comfortable car.
Love the car. Looks frantic but fun. Like he said, it is a car you have to learn, but if you DO learn it, it's incredibly balanced and will do anything. The other cars looked like he was fighting them. This one looked like he was negotiating with it.
Definitely the most well sorted car out there.
Watching this challenge has inspired me to improve the brakes on my car. I have Hawk Street 5.0 pads which helped with heat, but the brakes are still a bit lacking in feeling. Just picked up a Master Cylinder brace, and will likely switch to stainless lines and upgraded fluid next.
This is the video of this car I’ve been waiting for. I missed it somehow in looking for updates. Matt, it’s truly awesome and have completely changed my direction with my ‘92 GT. I’m in So. Cal and would love to meet and possibly go for a ride in the canyons just to get an idea of what I can look forward to. Would love to pick your brain. Thanks for doing all you do.
You're the Anthony Bourdain of car travel adventures. In this crop of UA-camrs you're easily the best driver and had the least sketchy car although Tommy's Skyline was pretty sweet as well. You do need to fix the brakes and cooling problem. And, as Justin Bell said, your upgraded chassis can easily handle more power so you should spend some of that product placement revenue for watches and ball pouch underwear on some motor upgrades. Ferretti is entertaining but an eternal douche with his video calling out Dahm and his creative justifications as to why his sh** stinks less than anyone else's. Kudos for having a much healthier attitude and perspective on the event.
Matt being a 1980 baby your fox has a place in my heart, they all do. I️ grew up in high school tearing up the town with these. I️ think you need to supercharge it. Something mild. 8-10 psi and it will be perfect.
I wonder if Matt will ever buy a crashed GT350 for, you know...
I think Dahm and Ferretti should have been disqualified for breaking down. This is a "project car challenge" and one requirement should have been not breaking down.
Love this video, Matt. The detailed input from Justin and yourself make this one of the best if not the best video you've put out. I'm far from an expert, or even decent amateur driver, but I think I can see a clear difference between your drive and Justin's drive, and I cant recall another video where I got that feeling (or, maybe I'm just convincing myself that I can tell the difference, but, in any case, amazing video).
Great stuff, Matt! Very happy to see you get it on track and to see that it performs awesome. Don't "go stupid" with engine mods - enjoy the car before you end up being "that guy" in the pit with his car leaking/ smoking/ broken all the time and wasting his track time & money. ;)
Hey Pro Driver LeMans winning Justin Bell go out there and cool off my brakes. Now that's baller! Lol congrats on the great showing! Hopefully erases all the challenges you have had with the build!
Matt... maybe consider running this at Optima Ultimate Street Car.... you would do well I think, I was just there yesterday
Superb camera angles in the car Matt. Thank you for having the main screen shot from behind the driver and the small screen the side view of the shifter and steering wheel, that makes for the best video to watch imho. That mustang is the business! Sounds good looks good and has a killer stance with that square setup. Best Smoking Tire video ever! Love how you got the pro driver in your car, that to me shows your own personal confidence in your cars performance to trust handing it over to someone with a major race pedigree for review. Nice work Sir. P.S. please make all your videos on track.
