      That's what i liked about this video, the owner is into drivng, this is a drivers car, even if the car is not perfect you can see the bond they have... sometimes (sometimes) money and mechanichs-workers-paidmods make this bond fragile i think. but even in those situations when you see the driver is in to it, enjoying it, feeling it and suffering it even in that situations you can say ''Damn i love this''

    Great video. That was fun. As a Fox body owner, this is why we are annoying you about the Fox body project car. Sorry, we can't help ourselves. These cars are unrefined, but they are a blast! Thanks for taking us on this run. It was almost like being there.

    this series is awesome, if you don't like it don't watch - at the end of the day, we don't just want to see new cars reviewed, it's also awesome to see old ones and modded ones, this is a great way to see more cars which is a win-win in my book.

    This guy is awesome. He does not flinch during the ride and know is his Mustang inside and out. Its really cool how he is doing this on a budget. I also have done things like run to Home Depot for parts instead of the auto parts place to save money. The fox body is one of my dream cars. NIce car.

    Having owned, modded and simply loved Fox body mustangs for the last 20 years, I love this video. Currently finishing up the tune on my '93 Cobra... full Max Motorsport suspension but kept the live axle to handle the power - Incon twin turbo 347 through an MMR Tremec. Car is black on black... have owned more black foxes than any, '87, 89, '92 and 2 93's. They can look very mean when done well. Great to see a video like this with 2 Fox enthusiasts... sort of rekindles my focus in the dead of a cold long winter here in Michigan! Keep more vid's like this coming!!

      @ElementL116 9 років тому +1

      ***** Nice. My first Fox was a black '87 with T-tops about 20 years ago. Loved that car and should have never got rid of it, but wanted to build something better as the story goes. I had the 16" Pony's on it, Vortech A-trim (talk about old school) and GT-40 al heads/intake plus all the supporting mods. Remember one of my first mods was a Ram Air kit which I installed in my driveway while it was snowing. Even had a pull out cassette player with the remote CD player that plugged into the cassette player. Sounds like you're treating yours right with some modern mods.

    i am so glad to see Matt driving another fox! I understand that for the displacement of the engine, the power output seems...lacking, but the engine delivers gobs of torque and very usable power, with the sounds to back it up. the Fox is a great platform to start, with "little" money, you can put some real power down with some serious torque making it perfect for canyons or RR. modern top end kit with stock short block should put around 300 wheel HP no prob. Sure, any civic on the high way will kill it but when do you get to open your turbo car up to 4000 or so before you make any real power? I think a $5000 - $8000 built stang could DESTROY a lot of much more expensive or turbo straight line cars where it counts, corners. great place to start, Matt seems to think so, cant wait to see matts and finish mine :)

    The biggest thing I've noticed about steering feel is steering rack bushings, suspension arm bushings (both obvious), but also sizable low speed compression damping that feeds in a lot of tactile road sensation into the car.

      Kane Jacobs 240 wheel with probably minimal mods. Bro seriously this car is from the 80s what exactly do you expect it to make?

  • @joeracer302
    @joeracer302 9 років тому

    I love foxes, and I've owned (3 so far ...), but they do have a few bad tendencies that are hard to escape due to the poor chassis/suspension geometry. After a few steering/brake/suspension upgrades it stuck okay in the turns, but it always had a bad tendency to plow at the limit until you applied throttle and then it just broke the rear tires loose. I had a buddy who did the Griggs TA setup, and that completely changed the handling characteristics of the car. It still plowed at the limit, but you could put the throttle down coming out of turns without the tires instantly going up in smoke. I would really like to thrash a full Griggs setup with the SLA front around a track :)

  • @willbrown5543
    @willbrown5543 9 років тому +1

    Hey dude sweet Fox! I can't stress enough how much better your steering feel will be after you upgrade to a Momo steering wheel. I've had my 92 for 9 years and it has been one of the last things I've done, but I totally regret not doing it earlier. Trust me, it's a completely different car with it.

    • @baseball1441
      @baseball1441 9 років тому

    • @willbrown5543
      @willbrown5543 9 років тому

      ***** www.americanmuscle.com/momo-monte-steering-wheel.html I got this one, but realistically any of the momo wheels are much smaller which really helps with the feel. You also need a momo wheel hub to attach it which is about $90.

    • @baseball1441
      @baseball1441 9 років тому

      Wolf Brown Will this help tighten up my steering a bit?
      Mine feels so loose and kinda goes where it pleases on the free way and I always have to correct it.
      It may be front end components but the steering is also so damn light.

    • @willbrown5543
      @willbrown5543 9 років тому

      Yes. It completely changes the feel of the steering. When you have that big ass airbag wheel it almost feels like you have zero feel of the road. The smaller steering wheel makes everything feel crisp, and it adds a little bit more weight to the steering since it is smaller and you don't have as much leverage. Like I said in my original post this is something I wish I would've done years ago.

    TheSmokingTire if you want to swap your long Hurst Shifter for a short one, let me know, happy to swap with you, my 95 GT needs a little more reach with the shifter.
    Also for the owner, if you are going to change your rear gear, go 3:73's not 4:10's. The 4:10's make 1st and 2nd gear a little short, especially if you are going to either daily it, or drive it frequently. You car is light enough that 73's will be perfect. I say this as someone who has owned an 83 GT, a 92 LX Notch and now a 95 GT.

    • @gerrbleberry7
      @gerrbleberry7 9 років тому +2

      I agree with the 3.73 but I have been back and forth between that and 4.10 it's just as I said I have a tremec t5 with the 2.95 first gear which was designed so you could use 1 and 2 unlike the 3.35 in the world class t5 which is almost unusable with any higher rear gear than stock.

    • @RumblestripDotNet
      @RumblestripDotNet 9 років тому +1

      Michael Elterman I've got 4:10's in my 95 GT with a 2:95 first, and it's OK, if my car wasn't 3300lbs I'd be all for 73's. I had 73's in my 83 GT and my 92 LX Notchback and they were perfect, both on the street and the track, you also save yourself about 200 rpm at highways speeds with 73's.

    • @gerrbleberry7
      @gerrbleberry7 9 років тому +1

      Rumblestrip.NET huh. So what do you mean alright? Too much shifting?

    • @RumblestripDotNet
      @RumblestripDotNet 9 років тому +1

      It's not quite let the clutch out and get ready to pull second like with 4:10's and a 3.35 1st gear, but it's not much off of it. Granted I have a lot more torque than you but I don't even have to slip the clutch to start off from a dead stop in 2nd.

  • @xVEINYWEDGEx

    Regardless with how the car actually performs, even myself would find it hard to blatantly call out the faults of these cars. More power to the owners for building performing cars from scratch but I think the criticism could be more direct. But the fact that this owner actually knew what he was talking about was pretty cool, I even liked the light switch/ diy touch to be honest.

    Matt, I hope the big trip is going well! Can't wait to see all the cool content that will come out of it. My question is, with the relativly low power the old 5.0 makes, do you think it is better to go for street carver application like mike did, or play the weight advantage (although hatch's are heavy i know) and update the engine and go drag racer? I understand it is personal preference as well, but I'm looking at getting a fox down the road

    • @TheSmokingTire
      @TheSmokingTire  9 років тому +3

      I mean, it depends what you enjoy doing with your car. If you like carving canyons, building a drag car won't be much fun. If you like drag racing, you'll be disappointed with the stock output of the old 302.

    • @mobiuspenguin
      @mobiuspenguin 9 років тому +1

      Of course of course. And the problem is there will always be better stock cars for what your doing with the fox. Miata for canyon carving, built engine cars for drag, etc But there is something about seeing this loveable brick of a car go fast anywhere. I guess either way you go you will be spending money on either suspension or engine

    I'm not a Sports/Performance Car kind of person, so I don't know why I keep enjoying these videos, but I do. I have been somewhat impressed with how often you catch up to people on your runs and they pull over to let you pass. I have been all over the Southeastern U.S. and I have never seen anyone do this on two lane roads. Here in Florida it's even hard to get people to move right on four or six lane roads. Is this common in Cali or is it just a a known consideration on these twisty canyon roads?

      I think even if I wasn't an enthusiast and driving a slow car around those canyons I would let people pass me. First off, they see that the car behind them looks fast. Second, they know that there will be regionals who know that canyon well and don't have to drive with cautions. And at last if people hug your rear bumper you will feel uncomfortable and either move out the way or if you're an asshole break check them.

    I just bought an LX Myself a few weeks back, for a really good price. Im looking into starting to modify it, it is also a convertible. I dont know a ton about cars, however my father dose. Any recommendations on what to do first? I need to have the interior re-done then after that im not sure. Any thoughts? ( '93, 43kmiles)

    Driving like this is great in the Appalachians for us east coast boys. However, only once have i had anyone pull over to let me by.... For once, I envy the west coast.

    Not a big american car fan but I do like those old fox body mustangs, someone needs to build one like the so rare few they ran in the old DTM series, now that would be something epic. Despite lack of power for the engine size they do sound good, ,its one of the few areas (older)
    american muscle really shines.

    Might seem like a low HP figure, but the guy tuned the car for balance and grip and it shows. It's a good project car, even with it's shortcomings due to it's age.
