Yeah but is that luck? Or is it experience and the result of decent plan? I actually made a video on this subject with my thoughts. I will release it this thursday. Just finishing up the last peaces 😅 grt guido
I, too, look for backlit subjects against dark/shaded backgrounds, to bring out the luminescence of nature. This is what draws me to telephoto photography: not only do you get compression (which I simply like), but backgrounds are so manageable.
I always find it funny that not more people do this. I always hear people complain about bad light and no clouds etc etc. At the same time, I'm shooting telephoto images with great light conditions... it just offers much more photographic opertunitys, in my opinion. Thanks for watching grt guido

Thanks John, appreciate your comment! I actually made a video about luck last Sunday, and it will probably be out within 2 weeks or so. It got me thinking if it was luck... but you will probably see it. I think knowing how to operate your camera really gives you an advantage. Knowing how to change settings quickly and witch settings to use definitely helps. But still, I get failed shots a lot. You don't always see them in my videos, but believe me, they are there! Wonderful new location you have found and perfect condition this morning. All the images look very good. I think 4:50 is my favorite. I hope having such conditions next month in my favorite area. Will have than more time for going out and taking pictures.

You are a master with trees and backlight photos. The picture with the white tree and a deer on the right is very beautiful. I am inspired to use my 150-400 for landscape photography.

I have always enjoyed taking pictures but never had a great camera. Last week I picked up the OM-1 and I found your videos and I love the vibe and it inspired me to begin my own landscape photography journey (and some macro). Yesterday I woke up at 5 just so I could be in a nature park close to me to catch some morning light. It is so relaxing and I love hunting for photos while I walk. And being there early means no people so I just had a blast (even if it rained). I am now backtracking through your channel and learning as much as I can. Once I feel a bit confident in my basic knowledge, I will probably sign up for one of your walks cause I live close by in Belgium. Thank you for the content, the knowledge and the chill vibes. I wish you all the best

Just lovely, lovely shots on a beautiful morning. Great work.
Very few without training could paint a portrait worth looking at, or compose a symphony worth listening to. One interesting thing about photography is that anyone with a camera in theory can do it, irrespective of training or talent, and by the law of averages might even manage to do it well from time without either. As you demonstrate, what increases your odds drastically are inspiration, understanding lighting and how to compose a shot, and knowing your camera. And beyond that, of course there’s luck involved! Where would be the fun if there weren’t?
You are right, and I think the amount of time that you can spend with it also helps get more results. Photography is something you can learn in my opinion were painting had more to do with talent. But getting a photograph that is really good requires a bit more then just learning indeed. I don't say that I hit the jackpot with every shot but u do feel I understand it better after every trip.
Yes, they still allow me to use it. Have to return it in June. Hopefully, they will forget about it 🙈

I'm back. I still have some of your videos to catch up on. This one reminds me of My Bristlecone Bines trip at 10,000 feet walking through the 6,500 year old trees I sounded like a Steam Locomotive got a wicked headache too had to move to lower places. Your first tree reminds me of Africa. The bright tree with the path in the foreground is possibly the best one IMHO.

Thanks mike. I get what you mean by reminding you of africa. The whole area was a bit like this with all kinds of different trees but all a bit similar. Also a lot of deer like on the African plains. What does bftd stand for? Grt guido

Nice location, where were you this time. What I really liked about the photo at 06.48 minutes is that in the tree you photographed there is a bird in the top left corner. Nice detail for this photo. And the photo with the deer also has something magical, as you said yourself. Anyway, I'm already looking forward to your next video next week. Greetings from Deventer.
This is called westerheide near hilversum. The bird is a nice touch, right? I have to be honest that I only noticed it when I started post-processing l. Never saw the little bird in reality. Hi Guido, sensor dust will be a thing of the past now when changing lenses out in the field with the supersonic wave filter on the OM1
I spoke to the owner of a company that cleans sensor bon stop. He told me that mirrorless cameras were killing his buisness. The only cameras that he gets are mirror reflex cameras and according to him the problem is not caused bu dust coming in when changing lenses. The problem happens because of lubricants on the mirror mechanism that are being trow around on the inside of the body. Don't know if it is true but I guess he has no reason to lie about it 😅 thanks for watching. Grt guido

Mooie foto’s weer. Heb je de kleuren nog wat opgehaald, of kwamen ze zo uit de camera?. Hoe dan ook het zag er goed uit. Los van de 2 reclameblokken dan.
Ik fotografeer uitsluitend in raw en daar zit amper kleur in dus die moet je zeler ophalen. Maar de kleuren komen wel overeen met hoe ik het in werkelijkheid zag. Tenminste dat is wat ik altijd probeer te doen. Tja de reclame blokken... het is niet anders helaas 😅 bedankt voor het kijken weer. grt guido

What camera strap are you using? It looks really great.
I use the peak design L-SG-3. It's a great strap. I also have the clip that you can attach to you backpack so you can hang it on even without the neck strap. It's expansive but deffinitly worth it. Thanks for watchibg ! Grt guido

Thank you. For most / all of my landscape images, I photograph in single auto focus. But sometimes, I go into manual focus with the Zoom function so that I can really socks into the details. Thanks for watching grt Guido

@cryptographerchris4856 do you mean how many focus points and what shape? For landscapes, I always only use 1 small focus point. For animals, I use a a square of 9 or so and for flying birds I use all focus points. I always use the joystick on the back of the camera to position the focus spots were I want the focus to be. And when I push the joystick, I can switch between how many focus points I use. So I can really quickly adjust to the needs at that moment.

I noticed that you used spot metering on your camera do you always use that on your landscape photographs?
I always use spot centre weigted spot metering, so not the exact spot. I always feel that it gives me the best results but to be honest... I don't think it makes a massive impact. I only look at the histagram to tell me the information that I need. Thnx for watching. Grt guido
Hi, Could you please tell me how long the 150-400 is on the OM1 with the hood on? Total length of the camera, lens, and mounted hood. I'm thinking of getting this lens and wondering if it'll fit in my current Pelican case with the hood on it (not reversed). Thanks
The full length camera, lens and hood is 46.5cm it's a great lens if you buy one I'm sure you won't be disappointed! Grt guido

@JimsPhotographyArt my pleassure. If you doubt if the 150-400 is worth it... I have this one on loan from om system and haven't touched my 100-400 and 300 since I have it. It's by far the best piece of glass that I have ever used. I'm actually considering buying it myself, and I would be happy to sell the other two lenses if that means that I can get this beast for myself. Just 3 words for it... I love it! @@GuidoVanDeWater I have heard many say it's the best telephoto lens they ever used! I also just moved from the EM1X to the OM1 Mark II and absolutely love this new camera! I bet the 150-400mm would be awesome on it, especially getting twice the light through it at the long end compared to the 100-400mm. I live in a forest and often struggle with f/6.3 at the long end with the 100-400mm.
