The new 1.0.9.1 firmware update improves the image stabilization and provides compatibility with Canon LPE6P battery and now unlocks the 60fps 8K recording with Dual Pixel CMOS support and image stabilization. I have only just updated and it is a wonderful firmware update that has improved what you've already covered!!

Thanks for video. I use the R6 MKII as a hybrid shooter and I love it. I was planning to buying a slightly better camera than the R6 MKII, but after some research I came to the conclusion that the R6 MKII is the best for my needs, especially because of its low light performance. I need another backup camera, video oriented, but still have a backup for photos. The R5c seems to be ideal for me, I'm just wondering if the autofocus is worse than the R6 MKII when shooting video?

Love the R5C! The lack of IBIS is definitely true to its moniker as a cinema camera, a floating sensor wouldn't be great in precise on-set environments, and the digital stabilization is still pretty good. The 8k is honestly more useful for the oversampled image than anything (and of course the stills!). Really nothing like this on the market today.

Thanks for the review. I think you should do another review of the camera with the new firmware. I think it would be more relevant.

The camera has long featured a power-saving mode that provides over an hour of battery life when recording in 4K

R5C is one of its kind, like the 1DC. R5 II cost $4300. Where do you think the R5C sits between C80, which is at $5500 already. We can dream of R5C II, but there won't be one. I own R5C myself and absolutely love it as is.

Hello, nice video! I have also R5C, but i have a major problem from the start but after the last Firmware 1.0.9.1. was much more worst. And i ll to ask if you or anyone with R5C had the same problem. The problem is with recording times on CF card..... i a format the card on the camera and for example the remain recording time is 64min on CFexpress. If i start recording short clips, 10sec-15sec like Broll, after each RES-STOP the remaining time lost 1min per time doesn't matter if i recording only 10sec. That was doing from the beginning but not so much. From the Canon told me its a normal and advised me to recording without stop, till the card is full.... Does anyone that problem? My R5 doesn't do that of course. Thank you for your time! Dimitris M.

The R5C switches between photo & video much faster than you mentioned after a firmware update that came out more than a year ago. You must be using old firmware. Also the new Canon LP-E6P battery lasts much longer and allows recording in 60p raw without external battery.

This video is only 2 weeks old. The research was not done on this camera at all the boot time has definitely improved, the internal battery life has improved drastically all this with firmware which you have failed to mention. It’s a different camera than it was which you mentioned the Netflix approved fact but didn’t mention the firmware updates that canon is pretty much number 1 in the industry in doing ! Videos like this are reasons why this camera is underrated, long story short do your own research and update your firmware!

I am going to assume you haven’t used the new canon battery lpe6p.
It greatly improves the runtime on the canon r5c.

cool video, just subbed. thanks for touching on some lesser known points here 👌 looking to add one of these to my pair of R6IIs, and mostly sold on it. Sounds like the video AF is a step backwards compared to what we're used to with their other mirrorless bodies? I make a majority of my living relying on low-light AF, and some reviewers mention the C can hunt a bit more/not lock as well as we're used to on their other bodies, curious your real-world experience? I was kinda shocked to hear this tbh, for I've grown to love/rely on the laser-like focus of these fantastic RF lenses.
sidenote: for anyone researching better battery life options for this body, sounds like the new LP-E6P significantly increases runtime for certain formats. 4k24 goes to 90 min vs 60 min on older batts. 4k60 roughly 1hr per batt vs ~30 from the prev NH packs. just wanted to pass this little nugget of info along, saw some tests on it last week and seems like a big win for this body.

You never voided your warranty with Magic Lantern, it was really easy to revert to stock. Also, you can't achieve a similar video quality with the R5 or R5 II, they all have totally different, cheap digital image. Even the old Canon XC10 has better image than any mirrorless camera, you need Cinema EOS camera if you want sophisticated film looking image. If you don't see the difference, than just get the R10 for $800 :)
