I have neutered all my dogs. I have had 2 cockers followed by two labs previously. The cockers lived to 15 and 16 and the labs were 14 and 15. All were active, at the correct weight and healthy to the end. I currenty have two labs and a rescued Corso all under 4 and neutered so jury still out on them. Not for or against just adding my experiences.
My Cavalier needed to be neutered cuz he was peeing in the house. (Even after knowing where outside was.) My Maltese needed to be spayed because she was developing a tumor on one mammary gland. (They are good now after being spayed and neutered.)😊 I love your vid and thank you for educating us! I will definitely be doing my research for any future pets! ❤️
It is obvious Bruce Wayne loves Jason! I wish I knew this information when I had my Black Labrador Retriever. That was a long time ago, before the internet.
My dog is 17 years old now, male, 40 pounds and neutered. He's very sweet, had energy for years (was my running and hiking buddy) and always kept at a healthy weight. He's an Aussie mix (very mixed). No cancer, no sexual frustration, no bad side effects from neutering and has lived and is still living a long life. My childhood dog was spayed. She lived to be 13 or 14, around 35 pounds but was overweight. Never had cancer but had CHF in the end. One of my clients had a 21 year old wire JRT also neutered. No cancer only kidney issues due to age. My other had a 16 year old yorki neutered no cancer (he passed at 16 kidney issues). Another client's dog lived to be 15-16 and she was a spayed cattle dog (55 pounds area). Very active and spunky to the end but often a little overweight. No cancer. Now one client's dog passed at 12 to lymphoma (she also had cushings disease and liver issues). Very mixed beagle/dalmation everything dog. She was spayed as well. She's the only dog I've personally known to die of cancer and be altered. Too many variables for me to conclude if the neuter/spay caused anxiety/reactivity in any of the dogs. There's so many variables that goes into longevity not just spay/neuter. I still personally would not neuter/spay a growing dog.
I don’t have a corso but I have my first male Samoyed and he’s in tact. He’s almost 1 year. I have been going back and forth with whether to neuter him. I don’t want to if it’s going to make his anxiety worse or health worse. He’s not aggressive but he is anxious due to past trauma. I just want him to be healthy and happy. Thank you for sharing this.
I would never spay or neuter my dogs my vet tried to get my to neuter my 3 year old Male Cane Corso I was like why would I do that? he is inside he has a good temperament neutering many times causes them to get very fat as well thanks for always posting this good information on the Cane Corso Ive learned much from your information I thought my Corso male Solomon would get to be about 130 lbs he did but once he hit that 3 mark he reached 150 a very muscle 150 and gets a lot of exercise and plays with my other dog wrestling etc just a really good Boy with a good personality like yours
@@thor_canecorso1452 Bro when my Boy Solomon was 2 he was about 130 then he hit 3 and it was like a growth spurt to 150 and I watch what I feed him he doesnt have a huge appetite gets plenty of exercise so yah its crazy!! Wouldn't be surprised!
Good topic, I have always had rescue dogs so most people know that when you get a dog from a shelter they're already spayed or neutered. My cane Corso will be the first dog that I decide not to neuter so I'm interested to see the difference between neutered dogs and intact dogs
my unneutured Great Dane had testicular cancer from NOT being neutered. And I have a 4 year old collie bitch and a 6 month old OES male. Both are getting fixed. I never had weight gain from a dog that came after fixing. And Ive owned many dogs all fixed but my first two. Hip displasia from 1st one. testicular cancer from 2nd one.ALL giant breed. Except for last two Im fixing next. None of my dogs male or female ever had personality changes. So I do not agree.

Got my xl female 85lb bully spayed after her first heat for her joints and tendons... She became so sweet but gained weight. She lost it in weeks on a proper diet. Shes highly active but more aggressive with strangers. My 55lb xl pitbull intact male is super sweet, fearful and skinny!!! Am getting him neutered next year to make him gain weight and calm down. Never get a dog fixed before 1 year, or their first heat... Its now standard practice to remove the negatives.
This subject is very important, the pressures dogs owners receive to neuter or spay on the name of social responsibility and the damage that is done for all the reasons Jason stated on this video. My Malinois 3 years old, intact male, super sweet and playful, he loves to play with my grandkids puddle also an intact male. We want to have healthy dogs!
I tried to work with any rescue about adopting a dog without it being fixed. It was absolutely not a option. I said I would sign a document or whatever but nope. Now I know the issues going on right now but work towards pet owners and responsibilities. I'll never fix my dogs nor will I have pups.
Our last Cane Corso we had her spayed before her 1st heat. She did eventually develop bone cancer. We are really considering not doing it with our new girl now & seeing what other options might be better. Thanks for doing this video.
I have been reading different info, some suggest waiting until female dog is fully adult, before spaying for less issues. Never having had to deal with a dog in heat before, it is the unknowns of how long the bleeding would happen and could we manage it well that has me a bit concerned
@@Danadiva a week or so maybe 10 days? They also act different during that time. Definitely not fun. Male does don't really have any of those issues unless they are around a female dog in heat so it tends to be easier to keep them intact. I have seen it recommended to wait until the dog is fully grown. As they side effects from getting them fixed are reduced. They don't go away but they are reduced.
@@Danadiva the bleeding for some is really not that bad and only a few days. If you have carpet, you’d probably want some of those doggy diapers. I’d at least wait til after her first heat to get her spayed but I’ve read that it’s best to wait until they’re 2. If you wait you can at least see if it’s something you can deal with. One thing though is when my females are in heat, it often attracts coyotes to my house. Though they’ve never done anything cuz I have a fenced yard and I’m careful with how long I leave my females in heat outside. Just something to consider if you have coyotes or stray dogs in your neighborhood. Best of luck to you and your dog!
Thanks, Jason, for the thorough research on this topic. I am sorry I spayed my girls and will not be doing so for our corso. The funny thing is, due to medical reasons, I was 'spayed' in my early 40's 😂 and on every level, my body went haywire! Weight gain, hormonal issues, weakened and painful joints, cognitive decline, and the emergence of emotional and mental health issues (anxiety specifically). The regret is real. So, no....I won't inflict this unnecessary procedure upon my dogs going forward.
Your take is such a common sense approach that people never take ....you see how it effects you so it will for sure affect any living creature. On a personal note about yourself, have you considered going to a hormone clinic and using hormone replacement therapy to help yourself?
Bruce is great! He stayed put for that whole video. He so reminds me of my now passed Bull Mastiff. My boy I left intact even when the vet asked me several times about getting him neutered. My thought was a large dog isn’t fully finished growing even up to almost two years of age. Then when the time came at 2, i decided not to do it. I also didn’t want to deal with the weight gain issues. Thanks for the video!
I neutered my male after a year to avoid behavioral problems and after 3…I had to have him euthanized due to behavior issues. Definitely something to get educated on. Thank you for your videos
@ he showed signs of aggression, resource guarding mainly and it just got worse. He attacked me and a week later got my pug. They were raised together too. Just horrible, I know. My pug is still with me so I’m grateful for that. I could have been killed. Awareness is crucial with these breeds
Just stay with your pug and stop getting pets. You're not meant for it, to put it lightly. If you don't understand what happened with your dog, to be fair, you shouldn't be allowed to own one. Either if you spayed or not that dog, the ending would still be the same.
@@jujubee7585no while I may not be correct, any initial sign of food aggression from my Corso, I immediately punished. They’re now 2 years old and they show 0 food aggression. 0 resource guarding. They’re just big good balls now. I won’t lie I was physical but I truly believe it was for the best. Now they require zero physicality, and listen to tone of voice.
Hello I have a Caine Corso named Apollo he is male 1year old. I have not neutered him because I think it would be bad. 😊 he has a great personality for a dog. I have to work with him on training all the time. That’s okay to do! 😊😊
A great video and I love that Bruce's head is twice as big as yours, he's so cute. You asked if people medicate their kids because they have high energy, and the answer is "yes" they do. So many kids are medicated because they can't sit still all day in a desk. Thank you for this information.
Thank you for this insightful information. We waited to have our Shih Tzu neutered this year, when he was three years old. I knew the dangers of early neutering and researched the pros and cons of neutering. Unfortunately, our dog has already gained some weight. After hearing your information, I wish I had heard about vasectomies. 😕
Also, in a big dog, their leg bones will grow taller, but they will not become muscular and a small dog as with mine years ago, they can come down with Cushing’s disease. I will never never neuter or spay a dog again. My dogs remain intact.
This was a great video, some good information and a lot to consider ,knowledge is power and you’ve been a great advocate for the breed and dogs in general . I know this breed well , I had one 25 years ago when nobody had even heard of them , I’ve also had GSD , American Bulldogs and Pitbulls , Ive been involved in Rescue the last 20 years and my heart aches this morning because Saturday is the day they put dogs down,I’ve never seen a crisis like this , Big dominant breeds like Cane Corso, GSD , Malenois , Dobie, American Bulldogs are being dumped and filling up the shelters, and there’s a beautiful brindle Corso in San Bernardino animal shelter named Bruce Wayne coincidently that will be put down today along with a dozen other dogs not for behavior problems but for space ! And I can’t help, him I can’t find a rescue or a person to at least foster him , and I’m in Boston , I guess I’m saying we need good breeders to keep the breeds alive , but we also need to spay and neuter dogs because we have a self absorbed , irresponsible society right now, I’m not against going to a breeder for a dog or about choosing not to alter your dog I want that choice for myself also but if you’re considering getting a Cane Corso or any particular breed ,please, consider the shelters /Rescues and a dog like Bruce Wayne he’s only two years old that I’ll keep trying to save today till the end , and I also believe breeders need to regulated and held accountable , I need to vent this morning because I’m feeling defeated , and let’s keep this breed and others out of the shelters
I have raised Rottweilers, and mastiff my entire adult life. Never had one neutered, and never had one die of hip, dysplasia, or anything like that. 2:16
My female cane corso developed pyometra at the age of 2 and required an emergency hysterectomy to save her life. When the operated on her they told us it was a 50/50 shot she’d survive and the vet bill estimate was 9k. Of course I told them, whatever it took and she made it but at the end of it we learned it very common for female dogs that don’t breed to develop.
Here in Australia you can't find Vets to do Ovary sparing surgery. Tried at an animal hospital and they said they don't feel comfortable. So my papillion who is intact and going on 10 years will stay that way. She has anxiety issues and I will not spay her because i will mak it worse.@@jasoncorey
I had a Rottweiler Bloodhound unaltered male for 13 years and he was the sweetest boy with no behavioral issues. He would make friends with any other dog didn’t matter if they were also unaltered males or even if they were attempting to attack him. He never got in any fights, even living with other males. And never made any puppies. He passed away from degenerative myelopathy but lived past diagnosis and only couldn’t walk the last 3 weeks when it suddenly became extreme. Rest in peace my sweet Radar boy.
Yes thank you very much. ❤ I too look into a vasectomy not neuter In fact in my contract that I signed I am supposed to have my boys neutered at age two but I talked to my breeders and said I will not neuter my boys and asked if a vasectomy would be okay with them. They said they would look into it and get back to me so they must have they changed it in my contract and allowed this for us ❤. LoL Hi Bruce!!😂 Handsome Boy!!!❤
Neutered my lab at 2. It ruined his health - lost muscle mass, got all these orthopedic issues. I put him or TRT for 2 years now and the difference is massive.
I have so many questions for you! It is very hard to find good info on hormone replacement therapy for dogs. Do you mind telling me his protocol and the changes you saw happen?
Basically the same as in humans. Problem: they do not like injections. Undestor Testocaps at meals worked best in old dogs, just adjust the dose to avoid diarhhea .@@jasoncorey
@@jasoncorey Hi Jason, i live in a country in Europe where the vets do not practice this. i get the sustanon from a country where it is allowed. I give around 60mg a month, over 2 injections every 2nd Monday. I give subq injections which are less efficient but safer for home application. I follow the dogosterone patent details, the data from Karen Becker. I believe my dosage could be off but it works. My dog is 36 kilos. My dog improved his mobility, he lost ton of weight, his muscle definition improved massively, some limps in his walk improved. Much healthier and happier dog.
At the absolute bare minimum, I wish people would wait till the dog is at least 18 months old to spay neuter. That would help a lot. With that being said, I’ve owned two dogs that were spayed at six months old. One live to 17 years and one live to 16 years. That’s rare I know.
That's my logic, too. If I'm ever going to do it, it'll be after my Corso is grown (minimum 2 years if not 3) and only if there's a good reason. If he winds up really aggressive and it could be dangerous to other people or animals or something like that. He's pretty chill though, unless he's got a reason not to be... that said, my husky was spayed and lived to be 15, which is pretty good for the breed. My childhood dogs were all spayed or neutered, and most of them died from various illnesses or conditions at what I felt was a premature age
It’s import to recognize that it’s likely the downstream effect of obesity that lead to many of these diseases. The risk of a lot of diseases is massively impacted by metabolic health. There’s also a lot of evidence now that points to cancer being a metabolic disease. So if your dog is spayed/neutered, keeping their weight at an optimal level, along with an optimal diet, will likely keep these diseases at bay.
Yes obesity causes many issues but hormones regulate so much beyond just that. So it goes far beyond just obesity. For example my English Bulldog was not obese and a very healthy weight.....got Crushings disease.
Although i will say we were originally against it but everytime we went to the vet we were pretty much threatened and we didnt want to just get rid of him so we did a few things to correct unwanted behavior including neuter but this video was super informal thank you
In Switzerland it's actually illegal to spay/neuter a dog if there is no medical necessity for the procedure. Behavioral issues are not considered a reason to have your dog spayed/neutered. Then again, there's no issue with out of control dog populations here, the animal shelters are not overflowing and most rescue dogs are brought in from other countries.
My mom who is a vet recommends the ovary saving spay. She did a normal spay on one of her dogs and an OSS on the other. Same breed and almost the same age. The biggest difference is energy levels and weight gain. She has small dogs though, so you don't have to worry about hip issues in the same way. She has been promoting the OSS. Female dogs will still have heats and have a chance of mammary gland cancer. I have a very active Vizsla who is doing great with the OSS. My mom definitely recommends neutering at maturity for people who let their dog roam, don't want to put in training, aggression issues or have unaltered females around to prevent pet overpopulation, which is a huge problem.
Can you provide your research information so I can investigate all statements? I appreciate all information you can provide so I can meet with our vet and discuss these issues.
the spaying/neutering/microchipping/kibble reccomendations....from my simple minded observation; mirrors marketing, business, profiting, again simple minded very amateur not very educated lens i look through. In SF Ca the most affordable spaying (not that I would) I found costs $750.00USD for a very humble budget (mine). 2 week born sheltered puppies are detached instantly, I havent found a justification, but I am very saddened by it. I almost feel like, all the jobs; surgeons, vets, aides, employees etc. are paid because of puppies being abandoned, and these detachments, are so costly, so if i was a surgeon, I'd want more abandoned puppies to CUT UP, because papa needs a new car. Im sorry sometimes being inflamatory is unavoidable from my simple thoughts. anywhoot, I really enjoy all of your great work Mr. Jason, Cane Corso's Including my puppy are much well off because of you and your households efffort. Thank you so much. Hello Bruce and JJ! love you guys!
I have not neutered my Corso. His temperament is perfect right now and I am afraid to mess with that. My dog has been bitten 3 different times by other dogs because they were jealous that he was whole. They were an Elisha sheep dog, bully and a french bull dog. I am both the owners and I were lucky that my dog just stared back and did not react. I would hate to see my coros behave this way out of jealousy. So I will keep him whole.
I recently had to neuter my 9 year old mixed 75 lbs dog due to an enlarged prostrate that was blocking his bladder and he could not urinate. I’m a little concerned about how that will impact him. I have decreased his food because he was starting to put on some weight. I have a 10 year old female that was spayed at 3 months old from the pound. She has some odd fear issues and can be aggressive sometimes with other dogs. I’ve always wondered if it was due to early spaying. I also have a 2 year old mixed male. He is intact. He was gotten from the pound and I had to sign to a neuter contract on him. They were satisfied with him having a vasectomy. It was the first one my vet had ever done!!
We neutered our American Bully when he was about 3 years old. Since then, 2 TPLO (cruciate ligament tears) surgeries and he's scared of children. Mainly 2-6 year olds.
THERE IS A NEW OPERATION THAT LEAVES THE ORGANS INTACT, A BIT LIKE A VASECTOMY OR FALOPIAN TUBES BEING TIED. THIS MEANS YOUR DOG WILL NOT HAVE HEALTH PROBLEMS LIKE YOU GET WHEN YOU SPAY AND NEUTER. AND AS I TYPED, THE DOG VASECTOMY WAS MENTIONED. LOL
Great video. I was recommended by a lot of people around me (including my Dog's former Vet) to neuter my German Shepherd when he turned 1 years old. I was even told it wouldn't impact him negatively. It made absolutely zero sense to me and seemed a completely unnatural thing to do - not to mention from a common sense point of view there is no way this wouldn't have some sort of negative impact on my dog. Biology 101. No thanks.
I clipped my male because he was always getting into fights at the dog park. It was always either the dog didn't want to be humped and lashed out against my dog, or another dog would come up and hump the dog he was humping and he took it as a challenge. I got my female fixed because I didn't want to deal with the blood stains from her going into heat. However I do believe that the vet talked me into getting her fixed way too soon. It just seems like she didn't reach her full growth potential😢 (I was going to wait until she went into her first heat to get her fixed, but the vet was all like "the sooner the better")
My Catahoula mix was fixed younger then I really wanted. But I think it cause him to become more so Sissy boy.. my pitty always been a cat trapped in a dogs body. My girl no change at all. She still nuts..
My dog is not spayed. It is easier to keep an intact male, because they don't bleed for a month twice a year or get pregnant. I have seen some newer studies about spaying and neutering. I decided to wait longer to spay my German Shepherd mix, because the studies included her breed in the studies. I work as a dog groomer with a clinic attached and the veterinarian is aware of these studies too. He noticed she was not spayed when I brought her in and asked me if she was. He did not try to convince me to spay her. I think he agrees with the studies, because we talked about them. He was aware of them. I want to spay her at 2 because it is a lot of responsibility to keep an intact female. My female gsd mix will not wear her panties and pulls them off. She has to be confined during heat cycles. I feel bad she has to be locked up on the linoleum floors. She is not aggressive or pees in the house or cries during heat cycles.
I had a male Weimaraner who was the best behaved dog and the picture of health . I was coerced by my boyfriend into getting him neutered when he was 6 years old bc we bought a house that was in town . He gained so much weight that I couldn’t get him to loose and was never the same dog . He developed multiple conditions and died at 10 years old . That was two years ago and I’m still heartbroken over it . I will never allow that to happen to another animal of mine .
My American Bully is 7 years old and neutered him 1.5 months ago… he was already in surgery to remove mast cell tumor on his skin, and vet said his prostate was huge and he needed to be neutered to fix it. So I said ok…. It’s only been 1.5 months and he’s already gaining weight, has less energy for walks and also itching like crazy which he never did before! I’m not looking forward to seeing how else this affects him. I didn’t want to do it but my vet really pushed for it. I mean yeah he already has cancer so that could be it 😢 but he was his normal self before getting neutered and only had the tumor on his skin. I’m really mad at my vet for saying nothing about the negative side effects of neutering.
Vasectomies don't always work. Tubal ligation is similar. They are also more complex. They would likely cost more. At the end of the day you can opt to have these done. Most places allow for sterilization to occur in many ways. (This is my understanding) I'd recommend asking your vet. The 5 vets at the hospital I go to, only one can do vasectomies and Tubal ligation. Even if they were taught it in school, they may be out of practice. I'm not a vet or a lawyer but I am a scientist. I work in research labs and read a fair bit of scientific literature. I love they you took the time to read some and help educate people.
Last two German shepherds were not neutered. 3 of the last 4 of my dogs were not neutered. The one was already neutered. Never had any serious issues. Two had some mild prostate issues around 13-14 but nothing horrible.
My dog was spayed a couple of years ago because she was a rescue dog and we had no choice. Now she has hypothyroidism and we will have to pay for lifelong HRT. Won't make that mistake again.
I ended up neutering my male kangal because I have an intact female shepherd. I timed it right so he would be over 3 before her first heat. The only change so far, 6 months later, is he feel less on guard at the park, but he still will discipline an ill behaved dog. My previous male was a shepherd mix and he always stayed thin even after neutering. My female lab mix got fat. My female oki mix stayed thin. I will opt to keep my dogs intact but only if I have the same sex. I can't risk babies. My female went into heat 3 days before my kangal's appointment and it was too much for me to handle. I felt like I was living out a Romeo and Juliet scene every night.
I wish more vets did the types of surgeries that prevented puppies, but kept the hormones. But I’d probably have to travel at least six hours at the minimum to find a vet that would do that.
Seventeen years is an amazing age for a Rottie! Congratulations! I pray that my 3.5 yr intact male rescue Rottie will have the same healthy lifespan. I hear so many stories that they only live to 8-12 years. What do you feed?
Our intact Female CC was fine until 8. She never had pups, never bred. A hybred wolf dog jumped into the yard & tried to breed her. After that she got a horrible infection & died. Best dog i ever had. I miss her so much. It was just in June 2024.
Yes I also have 3 cane Corso’s and 2 Rottweiler’s I neutered my Rottweiler when he was one and now he attacks everyone never did that before, I don’t know if that has anything to do with it but his whole personality, and yes he is also overweight compared to my other dogs he weighs more than my corsos , he weighs 176 pounds….. biggest mistake I ever made
So glad I found this video. Your reasoned list of negatives is information I have been looking for. I have had several cats and dogs in my life. No vet ever mentioned negative side effects of spaying or neutering. I now have two indoor cats. They are 30 month old, intact sisters. I looked into having them spayed when they were kittens. The cost for two cats plus hearing about the negative effects of spaying, led me to various studies, including the UC Davis study. I am now subscribed to your channel. Happy Sardine Sunday!
I have an older dog I rescued from the pound. The ONLY reason I neutered him was because he was getting out of the yard on occasions and I didn’t want him making any unwanted litters.
My Corso is 16 months and intact. He doesn't mark things, doesn't try to hump, isn't hyperactive, and isn't aggressive towards other dogs or people. I don't plan to get him neutered unless there's a legitimate reason. The vet complains and says it'll prevent testicular cancer, I'd imagine it's pretty hard to get testicular cancer without testicles. She couldn't give me a single other upside. She swears it won't affect their growth, but I can't see how dropping the bulk of their testosterone wouldn't affect the growth in a male dog that's not full grown until 3 years old. No one would dare try to make that same argument for a human male child. The only way I'd even consider it is if he got fairly aggressive for some reason.
Your vet just must not be very educated on how hormones impact everything. Crazy that in 2024 vets still are not up to date with information....let alone just having some basic common sense. And remember....it can make them more aggressive possibly so if you do it for that it is a gamble.
I have 2 corso's...1 male & 1 female. When I bought the female...the deal was... she was to be fixed. Which I honered that agreement... don't think this will ever happen again. Arthritis is starting already & she was a little over 2 yrs old at that time. As far as my male...was going to get him certified as a service dog(legitimately). Would you believe they wanted me to get him fixed? NOT going to happen!!! Personally, I have seen & heard to much bad stuff happening due to you getting a dog fixed. NEVER AGAIN!!!
As a groomer for 31 years, i can't count how many times i have noticed my clients' female dogs that have breast cancer because of not spaying and testicular cancer for not neutering. Do your research every time a female dog comes into heat and isn't bred her risk for breast cancer goes up. No need to have an intact male if you don't want to breed him. Let's just not not spay and neuter cats for the same reason. We dont have enough of them that are ferral and homeless. Don't forget the puppy mills that thinks this way. I've had boxers since 1985 and unfortunately they are prone to cancer but because i love my breed i will spay and neuter if i have no plans on breeding. Some people use their animals for money.
I have never fixed my pets. I dont have puppies or kittens running around either. I have house pets and fences to protect my pets. They do travel with me.
Hormones play a massive part of one’s life. Chemical castration is even worse. They can survive however never as they were meant to be. They can survive even better keeping the hormones in place and more training. In this day and age that is not hard
"Ovary sparing spay and Vasectomy" seemed like a foreign language to my regular vet. Here in California, people ask me "what are those?" in regads to my 2 yr old balls. And "why are they there?' I just say "I was there for his 1st breath in my livng room... his behavor has given me EVERY REASON to leave his balls as they are. What's your racional tor ALWAYS choppng em off?"
I was never a fan of neutering. I'm a responsible owner with a well trained dog and I'm certain I'll never allow him to mate and contribute to the overpopulation of dogs. He's currently 4 years old and in very good shape and has only had stud tail.
I totally agree that puppies should not be "fixed". They cant breed anyhow.. so why do that to them? I get it we have an over population. That is why they do it. I waited till my dog was 5 years old. He developed a habit of "marking". He would dribble pee drops anywhere he wanted to claim. so the result is I cant have him in my room.. he has to be kenneled or all my stuff gets pissed on. He was confused about this.. its sad but I just dont want my room reeking of dog pee. He IS properly trained. He knows I dont want him to do that. Spaying is important if you are not going to breed a female. I had one dog, a boxer/pit x. She got pyometra. Absolutely horrible! She nearly died. She got the vet care she needed and lived to be more than 16 years old..
is this mainly for k-9s? or is this animal pets in general including felines and equine? I do know there are far more benefits to the health of a male horse when it is gelded rather than allowing him to remain a stallion and there are never any of the issues listed. So that is why i am asking just so i am not assuming. Thank you. :)
Any living creature messing with hormones will affect them. It is just biology. The reason you don't hear about it with horses is because they are not as popular as dogs or cats. Look at how popular dogs are and the info on it is still extremely limited.
My 7 1/2 year-old Connie Corso died because of a brain tumor and aneurysm, he was intact and a decent veterinarian of the area said it had nothing to do with him still having his balls I had a neutered Rottweiler who died of cancer at 8 years old.. I had a Yorky who died at nine years old, of pancreatitis, and Cushing disease he lives neutered as a small puppy My spayed cat died at five years old for unknown reasons and dwindled down to 3 pounds before she died
A neutered dog can still get prostate cancer.....they just can't get testicular cancer. I would not contribute one to the other in your case .....could be many many things.
my childhood dog got his manhood removed, my parrents thought it would stop him peeing inside, istead he just grew fat and large tumors on several areas on his body
That is the best behaved black bear that I have ever seen. Kidding, gorgeous dog.
Love the videos you put out help me so much with my puppy
Oh my god my corso is 2 years old and is 135+ and he isn't fixed so you're saying he's going to gain more weight just because!

Thanks!
Thanks 💪

Thank you for this video and clearing up the misinformation that is widely spread!
It's actually harder not to fix females. As most people will have a harder time dealing with them when they go into heat.
Sorry for your loss.
Tubal ligation can work to prevent puppies but it won't stop the bleeding.
@@jasoncorey Oh yes!! HRT is the key :)
I'm assuming he was aggressive before the surgery and got worse after?
@ he showed signs of aggression, resource guarding mainly and it just got worse. He attacked me and a week later got my pug. They were raised together too. Just horrible, I know. My pug is still with me so I’m grateful for that. I could have been killed. Awareness is crucial with these breeds
Just stay with your pug and stop getting pets. You're not meant for it, to put it lightly. If you don't understand what happened with your dog, to be fair, you shouldn't be allowed to own one. Either if you spayed or not that dog, the ending would still be the same.
@ oh well that’s so nice of you to say.
Great video Jason.
Good job Jason very well said!
I adopt all my pets so they have all been spayed and neutered. All were good dogs.
We know this in Norway. Here you have to have a documented medical reason to spay and neuter
Wow that's cool
Also in female dogs? Since if they won't get a litter, each additional year will make them more vulnerable to pyometra.
Also, in a big dog, their leg bones will grow taller, but they will not become muscular and a small dog
as with mine years ago,
they can come down with Cushing’s disease.
Great information 👌🏻 👍🏻
Can you post link for these studies?
I have raised Rottweilers, and mastiff my entire adult life. Never had one neutered, and never had one die of hip, dysplasia, or anything like that. 2:16
I am so glad I saw this video. My Alapaha will not be neutered. You have saved the day for my dog. Thank You keep those videos coming.
Thank you for this video! Bruce looking more handsome as he gets older❤

Love this vid ❤
My female cane corso developed pyometra at the age of 2 and required an emergency hysterectomy to save her life.
When the operated on her they told us it was a 50/50 shot she’d survive and the vet bill estimate was 9k. Of course I told them, whatever it took and she made it but at the end of it we learned it very common for female dogs that don’t breed to develop.
Ovary sparring spay reduces the chance of that just as much as spay but instead keeps their hormones intact.
Glad you talked about this. Now I know. Thank you. 🔯🕎✝️💜
Awesome to hear 🥰
Thank you Jason. I never got my pugs neutered because of hip dysplasia. And my dogs didn't look like fat sausages with legs. 😁💙
Love to hear that
At the absolute bare minimum, I wish people would wait till the dog is at least 18 months old to spay neuter.
I did not know that. It seems like you guys are doing things far better than we are here.....and that goes beyond just spay and neuter.
Where are your references? Show your work this is a good conversation and I think it needs to be work cited
the spaying/neutering/microchipping/kibble reccomendations....from my simple minded observation; mirrors marketing, business, profiting, again simple minded very amateur not very educated lens i look through.
My 17 month old boy has his balls. He is not aggressive at all. If he was aggressive I would have had him snipped. He is a gentle giant though.
If he was aggressive and you got him neutered, he could have gotten more aggressive. Especially Cane Corso's.
@@decemberkristine My dog is half corso half american bulldog. I think neutering him might have made him nervous. I am glad I never got him snipped.
If he was aggressive and you neutered him you are taking a chance if making it even worse.
Totally agree with this video. But one question: why are the ears cut of your dog? For what reason? This is forbidden in Europe.
I waited for my female dog to go through one full heat cycle and then waited for it to subside. Then got her fixed.
No thanks.
Would be great if you provided links to the studies to make it easier for people to share with their vets and breeders.

It just seems like she didn't reach her full growth potential😢 (I was going to wait until she went into her first heat to get her fixed, but the vet was all like "the sooner the better")
i like the fact Bruce is reading what you are reading to lol
(This is my understanding)
I'd recommend asking your vet.
Poor Bruce could not get a word in edgewise.
I need to learn to stop interrupting him 🤣
I wish more vets did the types of surgeries that prevented puppies, but kept the hormones. But I’d probably have to travel at least six hours at the minimum to find a vet that would do that.
6 hrs to add possible years to your dogs life sounds like a good tradeoff to me 💪
I decided not to fix my Rottweilers ,they have been the healthiest dogs I have had. I have two male dogs both not fixed. King is 17. Zeus is three
Seventeen years is an amazing age for a Rottie!
I am sorry for your loss. Hope you are doing well despite what happened. God bless!
Awwa 😢
Maybe you've covered this, but I have a chocolate Lab that has a lot of allergies. She was spay only because I wasn't allowed to get her.
What a travesty that the service dog industry has stooped so low in this regard. smh. Stay strong!
I love you
I've had 3 male pit bulls and 2 male Yorkies. Never mutilated. ❤
My last cane corso got bone cancer at 4 , I'll never nueter my new cane corso Joshua!
It's my understanding that spaying dogs before first heat completely eliminates breast cancer
Bruce is so gorgeous. Good topic.
I’m currently on the fence. Our 2 year old is a great indoor dog. But he’s completely psycho in our backyard.
Bruce is beautiful ❤🐾
Fixed said the dog I didn't known it was broken
What is the best raw food for hips and knees something is going
A full raw diet.....link in description to a raw feeding online course
But what if you live in an area that is mandatory spay and neuter? For my mastiff she has joint issues now
Your options are 1. Move 2. Don't get a animal if you can't move 3. Present evidence to the town or city and fight against the policy
My first corso had a cryptic testicle too! lol
💪💪 did you keep the other?
💪
Three year-old German shepherd female incontinence. Help.
She got the vet care she needed and lived to be more than 16 years old..
got mine from a shelter. required to be neutered to take him home wouldnt let me take him until they did it later that week
My pupper said he likes this video
is this mainly for k-9s? or is this animal pets in general including felines and equine? I do know there are far more benefits to the health of a male horse when it is gelded rather than allowing him to remain a stallion and there are never any of the issues listed. So that is why i am asking just so i am not assuming. Thank you. :)
Any living creature messing with hormones will affect them. It is just biology. The reason you don't hear about it with horses is because they are not as popular as dogs or cats. Look at how popular dogs are and the info on it is still extremely limited.
Never cut open a healthy animal. GOD Bless
My intact cane corso died of prostate cancer when he was 7. If I could do it again, I would have had him neutered.
My 7 1/2 year-old Connie Corso died because of a brain tumor and aneurysm, he was intact and a decent veterinarian of the area said it had nothing to do with him still having his balls
I had a neutered Rottweiler who died of cancer at 8 years old..
I had a Yorky who died at nine years old, of pancreatitis, and Cushing disease he lives neutered as a small puppy
My spayed cat died at five years old for unknown reasons and dwindled down to 3 pounds before she died
I'm sorry you went through that. That's actually rare. Dogs that are neutered can still get prostate cancer. Again, rare, but it happens.
