If that were true, that guy blowing in the tube could sell that ring he's wearing and buy a huge house, and move out of that mud hut. Something tells me they just prefer the simplistic traditions.
This is why delivery of information is important. I can see why you made that assumption, based on the phrasing used in the video. However, that's obviously not the case, once you do the math. They're comparing the value of the industry to one worker's wages. I keep seeing videos like this, and every one of them phrases the information in a way that creates a very negative connotation, while obscuring details and misrepresenting the facts. If he is cutting and polishing the stones as well heat treating, he is likely making a fortune in comparison to the miners. I'm not saying any of it is morally sound, but at least realize what you're being fed.

They just make stuff up now without knowing what time even is. So much has been lost and changed in history.
Anyone remember the stunning pearl choker Princess Diana used to rock? The centrepiece is a huge blue sapphire from Sri Lanka estimated to be 70 carats or more. Due to its intrinsic value, and tragic provenance, the choker would fetch north of 100 million pounds, if it came on the market today.

Actually - he's probably a scam artist. It's common in the industry to bulk-buy pale gemstones of little value. Apply heat to artificcally enhance their color - viola. You make a ton of profit, while the buyer/victim ends up with heat-damaged, fake-color stones not worth much more than glass.
The deeper you mine the better the result and quality, and one of the gems spot of growth would be near rivers, and crystals or gems often are found on islands with a volcano with a flow of river nearby, keep this in mind

$$Millions per stone and yet the worker makes $0.30 per day.
I doubt he they only make $.30. Maybe $.60
I also doubt any single stone fetches NEARLY that rate.... I'm pretty sure they were referring to yearly export values

Exactly what gems come from Sri Lanka.? I honestly dont know.
They are well known for their sapphires and moonstones.
Green diamonds? Or are those only native to India?
Interested to know the answer to that, if anyone knows.
