  • In British Columbia, navigating financial literacy within the context of disability can be a complex and multifaceted process. In addition to navigating the intricacies of applying for Individual Autism Funding and accessing adult CLBC services, it is also important to understand the application process for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC). A wide array of acronyms and systems can often lead to confusion, mistrust, or inaction, such as establishing a Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) or Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA), setting up a bank account, filing taxes, or engaging in estate planning. This lack of clarity perpetuates financial challenges within the autistic community, contributing to the cycle of poverty.
    To support financial literacy for the autistic community, we invited our friends at DC Complete Financial to host a one-hour Q and A session online over Zoom with our community members.
    we cover:
    Financial literacy, specific to the disability community;
    Debit and credit card statements;
    Different Investing plans;
    Submitting paystubs to the PWD portal;
    Understanding the claw-back deduction of PWD if you earn more than $16,000 annually;
    Practical advice on planning for the future.
