I have never seen a men like this what a gift to the world !
Love from Goa where Goans are famous for their western music because of the violin, have contributed to Bollywood India.
Thanks to you I can put my own sound post in and now fix seams and cracks using a coffee pot to melt my hide glue!
...Moral of the story: if you want your violins in one piece, exercise caution when choosing a wife
Your videos are more dynamic, informative and interesting than mainstream television. Thank you for sharing your valuable knowledge, talents, experience and inspirarion with your global fan base.
I like Daniel. We both have neat orderly work surfaces.
Using the tape case to create a tool! I love it!
Have you ever tried using a patch made of strong paper? May not change the sound qualities quite so much.
Oh man, haha I love this guy.
I find it amazing to see much knowledge and creativity in a crack repair :D
Thank you for sharing this information. It's inspirational. I happen to have the violin that was given to me as a child. I play a different violin now, but you inspire me to repair my old one. It's actually a beautiful instrument.
I love watching Daniel.
Very interesting, thank you.
Hello daniel,
Great series of video's. I have been making violins since 1984 and always there is a new task to learn. Or a new way to do an old task. I look forward to seeing more videos from you and exploring new ways to do things in ways I have not thought of.
Wow these videos need more viewers, awesome content , love your teaching , always a pleasure to see your videos . 👍
Using a band saw to cut sketchy material. You *are* a true repair man lol
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve used my bandsaw for something crazy like this and thought “welp....here goes...”
Very impressed with your video. Well done!
Hey if you ever wnt to get rid of a broken violin ill take one so I can learn to repair them! I have learned a lot from your videos!
IMPRESIONANTE !!!
Muy buenos los videos.
Saludos desde Argentina.
Hello, thanks for the useful information! I would like to ask how to repair a dent in the inner upper violin body, instead of the connection of the upper sound post. This is an ancient and expensive Italian violin.
Thanks.
It's worth investing in a case humidifier and hygrometer for anyone not in the know, thus, helping to account for and adjust levels associated with changes in climate.
Great tutorial!! i will follow all your steps here on my violin. iam allso going to take all the varnish off and put a new one. my violin has a bad color and scraches and no shine and a different color will do great i think :)
The wife thing is hilarious. You seem good natured about the whole thing, it can be hard not to get caught up in another persons anger.
I learned that it’s good to keep your instrument in the case for an hour when you move it to a new location. This way it adjusts to temperature and humidity slowly.
What kind of oil do you use under the plastic strips
Thank you Daniel for this amazing video! I have learned a lot from this.
I love his video and buy his book too. Great inspired story!
Super helpful, thanks!
Great !See I needed to see the patch get shaped
This is great. Your life sounds very interesting. I will check out your book.
Amazing video and great work!
But i wanted to ask what wood should be used for the patch?
pine
Hey !!!.......Was that a JIMMY SWAGGART cassette ?
hi Daniel I love your videos. I subscribed to u recently and now I'm just stuck at watching all of your videos XD
enjoy
Greetings Daniel, and thank you for your channel. I am wondering if a small crack on bottom is also fixable? And if so, what's price range for fix? Thanks so much!
Does anyone know what kind of wood should be used for the patch?
Hi Daniel, I took a violin from chennai, India to Switzerland in October 1st week. 2 weeks later I found a crack on the top plate near the tail piece. The next year, I took another violin from India to Switzerland again in October 1st week. 2 weeks later I found a crack on the top plate, this time near the finger board. The crack is similar to what you have shown. I am following western tuning. During my flight, I reduce the strings by a semi tone. Can you please tell me why this crack happens. As far as I know, India (chennai) and Switzerland have same humidity, around 70%. What do you think is the reason for such cracks and what care should I take. Please explain
Please, tell me about the clamp you used at 22:09. I've never seen such kind of clamp. Thanks a lot!
thank you for sharing. can i take off buttom and top at The same time? is remove bottom hard/difficoult?
No, you can not open top and button at the same time, the sides will change sharp and you will never be able to put them back again.
Thank you! Thank you!
I would love to learn from you
I enjoyed your last two videos about this subject. Please let me know next time you're back in Norway. Where is the location og your workshop in Norway ? Thank you for sharing your knowledge :)
Hossein Hayati I worked in Oslo Stavemger and Bergen, but now I am retired
Daniel, at 4:21, the cassette tape is sitting directly in front of some clamps. They have the orange feet and clear plastic jaws. I have been trying to find these for sale. Do you know of a source for them?
You're using them at 22:09.....
Yea a good craftsman can make mist of his hand tools
I have a violin from 1883 , Ferdinand hamulka , it has a thin crack in the top just like yours except not very noticable, I was wondering what the glue type is?
You need to use hide glue :) it is made of animal hide, comes in granules and you melt it with water. Sort of like gelatin.
Hi Daniel, Love your informative videos! what glue did you use?
miss_malan violin glue
Does a violin sound as good after repair as before damage?
Þórður Hallgrímsson the sound will change for sure, for better or worse

No, I move out from my country Norway many years ago, and now I live in Japan, I do have a music parter in Bergen where I go from time to time.
Das Genie bewältigt das Chaos, bezogen auf den Arbeitstisch.

Take up Wing Chun at least you can protect those precious violins
I have gathered from both videos that you need some organization skills..... and clean those shops!!!
you are absolutely right, but after my stduent organized my table and cleaned up our shops, I could never find my things again!
Hide glue only for each part 👌
You make me sad to see you struggle with all your tools this is not good you look like a good man I wish you all the best United States
Does anyone else wish they were a fly on the wall in the epic wife/ex-wife battle that ended up in such instrument carnage
what a loverly exwife got get me one lol
Now we all know why she's your ex wife.
What kind of mad women smash violins??????
Cutting tape scene : ear rape
Hey I think we both have the same ex-wife!
AndyPanda9 that's interesting bro, who is your ex wife, can I have her name?
Her name is Viola Smasher :)
