    Have you ever tried using a patch made of strong paper? May not change the sound qualities quite so much.

    Thank you for sharing this information. It's inspirational. I happen to have the violin that was given to me as a child. I play a different violin now, but you inspire me to repair my old one. It's actually a beautiful instrument.

    Hello daniel,
    Great series of video's. I have been making violins since 1984 and always there is a new task to learn. Or a new way to do an old task. I look forward to seeing more videos from you and exploring new ways to do things in ways I have not thought of.

    Hello, thanks for the useful information! I would like to ask how to repair a dent in the inner upper violin body, instead of the connection of the upper sound post. This is an ancient and expensive Italian violin.
    Thanks.

    It's worth investing in a case humidifier and hygrometer for anyone not in the know, thus, helping to account for and adjust levels associated with changes in climate.

    Great tutorial!! i will follow all your steps here on my violin. iam allso going to take all the varnish off and put a new one. my violin has a bad color and scraches and no shine and a different color will do great i think :)

  • @MawoDuffer
    @MawoDuffer 5 років тому

    I learned that it’s good to keep your instrument in the case for an hour when you move it to a new location. This way it adjusts to temperature and humidity slowly.

    Hi Daniel, I took a violin from chennai, India to Switzerland in October 1st week. 2 weeks later I found a crack on the top plate near the tail piece. The next year, I took another violin from India to Switzerland again in October 1st week. 2 weeks later I found a crack on the top plate, this time near the finger board. The crack is similar to what you have shown. I am following western tuning. During my flight, I reduce the strings by a semi tone. Can you please tell me why this crack happens. As far as I know, India (chennai) and Switzerland have same humidity, around 70%. What do you think is the reason for such cracks and what care should I take. Please explain

    • @Reckotch

      You need to use hide glue :) it is made of animal hide, comes in granules and you melt it with water. Sort of like gelatin.
