I agree he is a true professional. We all learn something new all the time.
    Best of luck,
    Tony. Cbx mastering engineer.

Fab reminds me of like the Mixing Engineer version of David DeAngelo. Lots of people are irritated by him but I like his approach, and what he's explaining makes a lot of practical sense to me.

People are talking about the none difference in the mix - Let me point out that this is a UA-cam video - the audio quality drop is huge! I attended the seminar and you could really hear the difference. People should know this by now.
This video or any other regarding audio on UA-cam do not tell the whole story.
Fab Dupont is amazing and really entertaining. If you ever get a chance do yourself a huge favor see him in live action. Amateur or professional...
    Best regards

18:58 I think when he put the shimmer back in, it seemed to, in a way, cancel out the de-esser just a little bit.

In regards to what he's saying at 14: 05, how much of an impact really happens when you simply move all your faders down 6dB? I have to do something like this a lot, but I think carefully about it and only bring down the busses that audio tracks are grouped to, and not sends, because if you bring down the channels going in to aux tracks, the processing in that channel won't be the same. likewise, if you bring down both an audio channel and the sends it's going to, then you're changing the ratio. With this strategy, am i actually changing the sound by bringing the channels down 6dB?

08:00 Am I the only one, who don't hear that frequency? It's a bad idea to remove that frequency when mixing in a room were that frequency is attenuated ;)

    Try HD! It gets "better".

Great video, why the negative comments by some. I'll tell you all why its called jealousy. Plus none of them are professionals as pro guys would not come on youtube and bash another engineer even if they didnt agree with him. Period. Grow up if you dont like it move along and be a grown up pro and not a childish idiot jelous person. Great job FAB love your work and i keep spreading the word as ive been doing this for many years and playing in bands and a songwriter and its not an easy business, why i decided to open a studio and run a label is crazy but i did and its very hard. Wish you well!

next time use a faster attack and much faster release time. the compressor is pumping making it sound nasal.

This is an awesome demonstration, but let's keep in mind that he was mixing in an environment that he found non-ideal and with extreme time constraints.

I was just wandering what was that. I thought it might have been some little toy-drone or a lighting effect because even though it looked like 2 birds chasing each other - how 2 birds could get into a lecture hall? ;)

You have to have a open mind when it come's to an artist or your not a producer.

thats because the original mix sounds great already. maybe a tad muddy, but good.

I think the problem is the place where he tries to do it. I mean he's a true professional but even that is not enough when mixing on stage.

Make art first I think I like this guys style. Power to the mass. Not some narrow minded banker type. And I want to hear real players playing. GOD SPEED and make art first KPM

"No disrespect but the unprocessed mix sounds about the same as the processed mixed"
thats the point! the recording is awesome to start with, the art of good engineering is to not change it, just make it sound better, take any unpleasant parts away, in reality its probably only trained ears that are going to here the unpleasant parts most of the time, unless its a terrible recording. the fact that you even mention an exciter leads me to believe you need to improve your recording technique!

dont try to be a wise ass... Probally he watched the video in 480p.
He need to fire up the quality of the video to hear the higher frequencies.

No disrespect but the unprocessed mix sounds about the same as the processed mixed.
He could have used an excited before or after he cut the low mid noist.
not bad but he dont mix very well.

I like these videos a lot but I just have to point out that the de-esser sounds horrible.

that tells a lot about your ears. They suck, by the way.
