- Armoured reconnaissance vehicles known as Jackals and Coyotes, with the British Army, travel by road and on the backs of transporters. The high mobility transporters had been participating in major NATO Exercise Steadfast Defender. Other army trucks and support vehicles are also featured. Most are from the 7th Light Mechanised Brigade Combat Team, aka 'The Desert Rats', operating as the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF).
The type serve as Reconnaissance Vehicles for the British Army. They are high mobility vehicles designed for quick manoeuvring both on and off road, with a variety of different terrain. They're armoured underneath to protect against IEDs and can be used for patrol & protection duties. The four wheeled Jackals are supported by six wheeled Coyote Tactical Support Vehicles (TSV) to transport cargo over the same type of terrain.
They're both made by Supacat and Babcock in Devon & Dorset in the UK. They're manufactured as the High Mobility Transporter (HMT) 4x4 (Jackal) and 6x6 (Coyote). There are plans to upgrade the current Jackal 2 to the Jackal 3.
Exercise Steadfast Defender is the largest NATO exercise to be held since the Cold War. Over 90,000 troops are participating with over 1,200 combat vehicles, over 80 aircraft and over 50 naval assets from all 32 allies, including Sweden. British Forces vehicles travelled by ship from the Marchwood Sea Mounting Centre in the Port of Southampton.

Jackals and Coyotes seem to be very operative and versatile vehicles. But they have no roof ... I suppose that their crews enjoyed the rain very much. 🌧🌧🌧😂😂😂
Nice👍👍 I’m not envious of the crews in that rain!
Well, i just wants to say it's so sweet to watch the vehicles manuver through that kind of weather so carefully & accurate: professinal driving skills i guess
When I served our recce vehicles were Saladins and Ferrets, not high tech I know, but they did keep you reasonably dry and protected you from small arms fire 😊
Afternoon Cobra...maybe I should go work for Cobra Emergency...looks like fun...Lot-3. Happy Easter my friend. say hi to EB TV
Tail-End Charlie, Jackal 2, needs a Browning M2 mounted up, pointed rearwards... to deter tailgating and anyone else that wanys to get up close n personal 😂😂😂
I will always be proud of my mother country in everything they do.
That’s my boy’s work vehicle. 😀
You'd think some sort of canopy or clip on roof could be developed if they're keeping these vehicles for possible operations in Europe. Some of them seem to have a basha trying to give shelter.
A couple tried to rig up a pancho you can see it flapping in the wind 😂 poor guys, seriously some of the worst engeneering is British
Apparently the MoD is getting rid of them in a few years, so they probably don't want to develop any extras for equipment they're planning on divesting from.
@2:29 I could be wrong but is someone vaping in one of the Jackals upfront!? I didn't think you could vape whilst on patrol/ driving in the Army.....or in the Army full stop!
Cool video though, don't envy those guys in the rain without the roofs!
Off to Marchwood I guess. I'm from Southampton, it's a logistical port that's it.
Who ever designed, approved, built, issued and ordered soldiers to use is criminally negligent.
Many such cases unfortunately.
Coming from Marchwood military port
Going along the Totton By-Pass towards Redbridge, from the Marchwood Military Port.
ruskie: thanks comrade
It must be miserable driving those in the pouring rain
No windscreen nor roof for protection from the elements
Gotta love the British mindset
Jr Engineer: oye, shouldn’t we add a roof or something?
Sr Engineer: a roof, for what?!
Jr: well, what if it rains?
Sr: if it rains? Nah mate, these are for the British military, they ain’t going to be using it in England where it rains
Jr: it rains in other places too
Sr: not as much as in England.
Jr:…
Sr:…
Jr: right so no roof, then?
Sr: don’t need it, it ain’t gonna be used in England
British troops: 🌧️ 😢
Who is Public Enemy No.1?
Who designed this needs to drive it in these conditions no cab protection for the crew in bad weather conditions the crew must be extremely uncomfortable and unable to concentrate
hmmmm bit wet ..and imagine in the winter
That was probably the entire British army!
...and the point of these in a non open desert environment?
Ahh yes panic buying long term vehicles for short term use, only suitable for hot climates, whoever decided it was a good idea to buy completely open vehicles seemed to forget that apart from Afghanistan most of the time the British army and its activities is mainly carried out in the northern hemisphere where a good summer lasts just 6 weeks, if we're lucky. Ah well it's good for morale, after all there are far too many recruits anyway.
What the actual fuck is going on here? Poncho flapping about like a wind sock acting like the worst rain cover in NATO, highly dangerous where the public are sharing the road. It's actually unbelievable that the CoC let that leave camp!
could of given then windscreens lol
Why do they have no cover, no windows, no protection, a kid could take one of them out with a stone let alone weapons or fragments, what am i missing??
They are cheaper than the tanks they replaced , we built an army with fighting insurgents instead of a peer...and we continue to buy them...😮
@@sonsofalchal how much do you save not giving them basic protection, it's like going on lion safari on bicycles
Bloody awful seeing those poor buggers having to drive those things in the rain and the pitiful attempts to keep it off with a tarp. Might have been OK in Aghan but Europe? We should be able to do better than this for them.
At least give them a cab, I bet they are frozen poor lads
Could effect their fysical condition and also their readiness for fight.
There's probably a sergeant back at the depot, reminding them that if they can't take a joke then they shouldn't have joined, or some other helpful verbal 'encouragement' 😉

Death traps.
After watching the Ukraine war these would last as long as a lada.
Them vachle is ment for Afghanistan not a war in Europe..tbh they wouldn't last a day in Ukraine

There’s no protection at all if there’s no roof! No cover at all! Useless waste of public money. I suppose the enemy will like them though, especially snipers!
What an embarrassment..
british army riding around in desert hot weather vehicles is so embarrassing. might as well drive around in Sherman tanks
